I always enjoy Logan’s writing style. He draws you in, and the plot always flows smoothly. This book manages to stand out from other thrillers, by early on being different. The main character is released from prison after being wrongly convicted of her husbands murder. Now she’s ready to prove her innocence. I loved the tense moments, understanding the need to look over her shoulder, never feeling safe. It’s also a lovely portrayal of a mothers love and the determination resulting from it. The first twist was unusual, and the last one maybe a bit hard to believe in. There was also one unanswered question for me, but that’s okay.

Convicted of killing her husband, Heather just spent the past ten years behind bars. Recently released on parole she’s driven to clear her name and reclaim her life. It is the only way she can return to what’s left of her family…her two sons.

But Heather has no idea what she’s up against and the lengths someone will go to to keep her from discovering the truth!

There was something so captivating about this audio! I could not put it down! (or pull the ear-buds out!)

My favorite T.M. Logan book to date!

And the narrator Gemma Whelan was A-Mazing!!🤩

Best to go in blind (I did), the blurb gives a bit too much away IMHO!

The first chapters captured my interest right away. There was a phone call, a women's voice, a lie, and an argument. I could feel the tension building as the story progressed.

A burner phone,men in black, and perhaps a set-up??

This one gave me some The Firm vibes and I loved every minute of it. Getting caught was not an option and I enjoyed the way the author kept the pace steady.

The narrator, Gemma Whelan was fantastic!

In September 2023, a hidden, disguised watcher lurks at the back of the church for the funeral of Heather Vernon, her two sons on the front row. Ten years ago, Heather is accused and convicted of the murder of her MP husband Liam, a charge she has always denied. She serves ten years and is released from prison at the beginning of September 2023. Is she guilty as the court decides or is she a fall guy for something much bigger? Heather leaves prison determined to clear her name and get her beloved boys back….

I’ve read quite a few books by TM Logan but in my opinion this is the best so far as the fast paced plot is meaty (with several accompanying veg) making it a very tasty read. The angle of Liam being an MP leads us into some very interesting areas, down some blind alleys and into some very dodgy parts of town!! Danger hides around every corner with many a nefarious character on Heathers tail. So many thing’s just don’t add up which makes for immersive reading as your suspicion antenna twitches in multiple directions with the plot most definitely thickening as Heather is pushed beyond her limits. Talk about your life changing on a dime!

The novel builds well, situations escalate, discoveries are made but wherein lies the truth? I can honestly say I do NOT see that coming as the twists and turns come rapidly towards the very unexpected end.

Overall, this is a highly entertaining and addictive read which I thoroughly enjoy.

With thanks to NetGalley and especially to Bonnier Books, Zaffre for the much appreciated arc in return for an honest review.

10 years ago, Heather lost everything when she was wrongly convicted of her husband’s murder. Recently released from prison, she is on a mission to find out who killed her husband and get her children back.

With a journalist who is convinced of her innocence, they work together to discover the truth. A truth that some people are determined to keep secret, people who will stop at nothing to keep the truth buried. Unfortunately for them, Heather is a badass character who will stop at nothing to find justice.

How this plays out makes for a fast-paced, suspenseful, and addictive read that I had trouble putting down. The author manages to maintain the edge-of-your-seat tension throughout.

*Gemma Whelan, of Game of Thrones fame, narrated the audiobook brilliantly. Her narration definitely enhanced the story!

What can I say I just loved this book could not put this down fabulous characters all flawed but likeable.

The Mother by TM Logan was a fast paced read that I loved,it was compelling & enjoyable. The narration by Gemma Whelan was superb she kept me engaged the whole way through.

Heather was serving time in jail for 10 years for murdering her husband Liam she is determined to get to the bottom of who actually did it.

The funeral was grief stricken as her two sons were in the front row… but unbeknown to everybody there a stranger was lurking in the back of the service who was there & why?

Now she is determined to see her son’s but first she must find out if people hire up ⬆️ are determined to hide the truth.

Like I said I loved this book entertaining, compelling, thrilling highly recommended. All those stars 🌟BTW that reveal left me gobsmacked.

It's a good story, but I would have enjoyed it more if, throughout the investigations of the main character, to prove her innocence suspicions were cast to various individuals of her environment at the time of the murder!
It was all too impersonal chasing after a conspiracy organised by a company!
The ending was shocking, but the only highlight in the whole story!
It has it good moments of various revelations, but they weren't ones that kept you guessing or at edge as to what happens next!

Through the protagonist Heather, the author touches upon a sensitive issue... that of an ex convict trying to face a new reality after she has lost everything!
The love of a mother that will stop at nothing to get her children back and how those children are what keeps her going, not only through her years in prison but also to face the difficulties that lay ahead of her to clear her name!
The tentative steps she takes to form new relationships with people she meets but also to leave behind habits from prison and also the appreciation of things once considered every day routine!

Mystery wise, I wasn't impressed much, but the social and emotional aspects of the story were interesting enough! Also, it could have been less detailed in some descriptions!

4.5 stars

short review for busy readers:
A phenomenal thriller set in England's West Country. The GR rating of 4 stars is absolutely deserved.

in detail:
What makes "The Mother" so good is not the theme of a mother wanting her kids back or being falsely accused of a major crime. That we've seen in a number of guises.

What's above and beyond is the the highly polished writing, excellent mastery of 1st person POV, accomplished scene-and-sequence structure and Heather, the mature and intelligent main character.

Imagine, a female thriller character who doesn't make dumb decisions for the sake of "tension" or furthering the plot! Whose thought trains make sense! Who might even be better at dealing with her problems than the reader would be in her shoes!

Whoa.

Speaking of tension, there's a lot of it. Who are those gorillas in the black van? Can Heather trust the people helping her? Who knows what she doesn't?

It's an unsettling cat and mouse game that keeps you reading...and the fantastic writing simply chugs it along.

The only weak point in the novel is the final reveal/scene. It's fitting and surprising, but becomes a bit too "all's well that end's well" as it aims for an emotionally satisfying conclusion instead of a more realistic one.

Besides that, "The Mother" is not an especially good title, as we completely forget about her kids for long stretches. It's more about Heather attempting to clear her name and find out who set her up than a custody battle or the like.

In any case, this is a very impressive thriller.

I will be looking out for more TM Logans in the future. Oh, and btw, the T in TM Logan stands for Tim. Who says men can't write good female characters? Not me!

Always enjoy this authors books ( and watch the TV adaptions, new one starts tonight ) but got to say outright this is my favourite of his ( and surely a TV Series will follow in the future for this one too )
A Mum, what is a Mum? Many things but on the whole fiercely loyal and will do ANYTHING for her children, even if she has to watch from afar, in the most bizarre of circumstances, she will do it, she will do anything if it helps to win her her children back….
Difficult ( as always ) not to say too much and give things away but this is a domestic thriller with criminal and Government links that spans a decade or more and will as the blurb says ‘keep you reading all night’
The pulsing intro is addictive and it carries on without let up to the substantially shocking ending, I was invested, enjoyed it and it was playable in my minds eye throughout
A quicker review would be
‘Read it, it’s awesome’

A mother of two children is allegedly framed for the murder of her high-profile MP husband.

She's convicted and spends nine years in prison before being released on probation.

The terms of her probation prohibit her from seeing her two sons and, therefore, she has one agenda:
To clear her name and get her sons back.

This riveting, action-packed, gripping, pacey, and absorbing thriller was impossible to put down and ended with a gasp-worthy twist.

Characterizations were strong, red herrings were plentiful, and suspense levels were high.

I listened to the audiobook read by Gemma Whelan, who gave an Oscar-worthy performance.

This book now joins "The Catch" as being one of my favorite TM Logan reads.

4.5 stars rounded up.

The end of the road for me and TM Logan. This book could have been taken 4 pages. Everything else is useless, dragged, boring details. Fillers. It feels like one of those theses that must have 10.000 words so the author decided to say the same thing in 20 different ways. "The page was folded in four. It was old and crinkly" bla bla bla.... It takes him two chapters to read the six words written on the page. Which was all useless.

After spending ten years behind bars for a murder she did not commit, Heather is determined to find out who killed her husband. This is a thrilling read and I was quickly invested in this story. The pace is fast with plenty of twists. The characters are believable. There's so much I could tell you about this book, but I can't as it would spoil the book for potential readers. I was quite shocked by the ending.

I would like to thank #NetGalley #BonnierBooksUk #Zaffre and the author #TMLogan for my ARC of #TheMother in exchange for an honest review.

A very exciting experience. The audio book version I’ve just finished left me in panic mode! The pitch and power of this narrator is spot on, talk about upping the tempo at the end!

A wife convicted of her husbands death, serving her time in prison and at the end on her release hiding watching the funeral of her spouse from afar, not only that, her sons too who she’s unable to communicate with.

Punished many times over and she’s innocent.

But who killed her husband?

The path of her conviction to find out and to redeem herself is very exciting to follow.

I live in Bristol and I knew all the landmarks, streets of the areas this author used in this book, it trebled the enjoyment for me as I could recognise these areas in my minds eye. Very impactful.

I’ve not watched any of his dramas so I’m certainly going to correct this and read more of his work. Why have I never before this? I have no idea except too many books little time.

Very suspenseful, so if you enjoy those type of books that keep you on your toes I highly recommend.

This book was going places. The premise was good and the beginning pulled me right in. At some point all I wanted was for this book to end and I completely stopped caring about the characters or the story. I did finish and I didn’t see the twist at the end. It still wasn’t enough to revive my interest or increase my rating.

*Calculating & Tense*

**4.5 Stars**

This was a tense and gripping story. Heather never thought that her life would be ripped apart overnight. That’s exactly what happens. She feels her husband Liam is holding things back and after an argument she storms off to bed not knowing that she would never see him alive again.

As she wakes up with not much recollection as to why she feels so groggy, her world as she knew it would never be the same. Liam is no more and upon questioning the evidence all points to her and soon to her shock she is arrested and charged with murder and locked up.

Ten years later after after being let out on licence early she wants answers and no one will stop her as she fights to get her children and her life back.

But, she has an unlikely ally in her sister in law who appears to be on her side, plus a journalist who wants to help her find the truth. As she gets closer to the truth things get very dangerous. But in her cause trying not to break the terms of her release she soon realises that the ones she puts her faith in doubts are forming and who she never doubted will show a side of their character that she never saw coming in a calculated twist at the end.

All was not as it seemed and the evidence did not seem to be checked out enough, I wonder if the investigation was more thorough if the outcome would have been the same

The story starts with a funeral. The children stand at the front of the room grieving the loss of their mother. Little do they know that she is stood, hiding in the shadows watching them with her heart breaking…

Rewind ten years and Heather and Liam are happily married with two young sons. Heather has no idea that this evening with be her last as a family as by tomorrow Liam will be dead, she will be accused of his murder and ultimately sent to prison to serve ten years of her sentence.

But Heather has never stopped proclaiming her innocence, she is determined to discover what happened that terrible evening - even if it costs her her own life…

T.M. Logan has done it again! Another incredibly fast paced and clever page turner. Short snappy chapters, interesting and often flawed characters and thrill after thrill make this a book that will be read in record time. I flew through it. I was so keen to find out how on earth Heather could discover the secrets of a decade ago. I loved the characters she met along the way, Jodie in particular. She was raw and feisty and her bond with Heather really enhanced the story.

I know with absolute certainty that we’ll see The Mother on tv screens within a few years, like the rest of the author’s books. And rightly so!

Bizarre but believable and brutal!

Heather losses everything in one night. How she fights back, the obstacles, tenacity and betrayals left me speechless. I love this author and ‘The Mother’ may be my favourite. I had no idea where it could go but baffle me it did. Brilliant blindsides, novel approach to a much covered plot and excellent narration of the audiobook, had me finish it in one sitting.

A complex mystery that has movie/series written all over it!

When I pick up a T. M. Logan book, I know I’m in for a treat his books are fast-paced, gripping, and tense, and after reading The Mother I’m thrilled to report this is his best thriller yet, and yes I have read them all! I read so many thrillers I need a well thought out opening to keep me hooked. It’s got to be one that offers a hint of the mystery that lies ahead. It has to have intrigue and the shock factor! So kudos to the author for including all my ‘must haves’.

I appreciate how the author puts what appear to be ‘normal families’ into ‘extraordinary’ situations that make you think, ‘what would I do if I found myself in the same situation?’ Heather Vernon is accused of killing her husband, but she has always claimed she is innocent. After spending 10 years in prison, she is out on probation. She has to stay away from her family, her two sons and anyone connected with the case. Heather is determined to prove her innocence and bring the actual killer to justice, and to get her children back.

The plot switches confidently between Heather’s past and present. Shifting between the two timelines keeps the tension flowing and those all important pages turning. The narrative deftly builds on the paranoia and distrust. It makes for a much more enjoyable read when an author doesn’t make it too obvious to the who? And why? The Mother is a tightly woven, binge-worthy thriller that twists and turns like the proverbial roller coaster. I’m positive this book is going to be a HUGE hit with old and new fans of T. M. Logan. Highly recommended.

I've enjoyed plenty of T.M. Logan's thrillers.
Whilst this was another entertaining read, I found it slightly different from what I was expecting.

I'd argue that this was more of a political thriller as despite Heather being the prime suspect for the murder of her husband, the popular MP Liam - having spent time in prison, she's now desperate to find out the truth.

The author sets the scene perfectly as Heather becomes increasingly frustrated of the distant Liam and his heavy work load, it gets to the point where she suspects that he might be having an affair - so there is potential for a motive...

I think I was expecting something more domestic drama, though the lengths that Heather goes as she seeks the truth is still quite compelling.

4.5 stars. I have read all of T.M. Logan's books and this was one of the best! A riveting thriller about a mother wrongfully imprisoned for the murder of her husband, going to extremes to prove her innocence upon her release. Along with an unlikely "little crew of screw-ups and misfits", Heather stumbles onto information that puts all of their lives in danger. Fast-paced with several shocking twists towards the end, this was an action-packed book that was hard to put down. Looking forward to his next one!

My 9th audio book and this one was really an easy one to follow. A politician is found murdered in his house and his wife “The Mother” is charged and serves 10 years of her 16 year sentence. When she gets out, she’s out to prove she didn’t kill her husband. Loved the twist towards the end too. It’s all based in England. This is my 4th book by this author. I highly recommend all his thrillers.

Ten years ago Heather lost everything. Now she will stop at nothing to clear her name - and to get her two sons back again from her in-laws.

I have read other books where someone has been wrongfully imprisoned and when they are out again, they're trying to prove their innocence. Nothing original or new here. Neverless I wanted to read this story as I've enjoyed T.M. Logan's previous books.

The beginning was intriguing but at some point I felt like I wasn't quite invested in the characters or the outcome. I felt like the story was disjointed, I didn't have all the information Heather had, the characters felt one-dimensional. Author added information that was not really necessary to the plot and as such it wasn't really adding anything to the story but word count.

Not bad story but there was something lacking and not one of those stories I'd like to revisit anytime soon!

Another great thriller from TM Logan.
Heather has been convicted of her husband‘s murder and the first thing on her mind when she is released nine years later, are her sons.
She knows she’s not allowed to see them but sneaks a quick look at them before heading to the hostel.
Heather is determined to find out who killed her husband and finds a journalist to help her. Owen always thought Heather was innocent and together they try and work out what really happened.
There’s some people who are not keen for the truth to come out and soon Heather’s life is in danger.
This is a gripping thriller that I really enjoyed.
Thanks to Bonnier Books and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book.

Heather has served 9 years of an 18 year sentence for killing her husband in cold blood. She’s out on probabation with two goals… find out who really killed her husband and get her two sons back.

This one is a doozie! Fantastic writing, believable characters and moments when you want to tell Heather to hide or to run… because I was that involved. This one gets the gushing blue ribbon of guaranteed enjoyment ribbon. I can’t wait to read the next from this brilliant author.

⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️Another T.M. Logan masterpiece!
Whenever I pick up a book by this author, I know they are going to be fast-paced & gripping. After reading The Mother I'm happy to say this still holds true. This is my third book by this author, and I can’t wait to read the others.
There are certain things I love as a reader, when the book from the beginning pulls me in & doesn’t let go , when I’m given multiple twists and when the ending is really an ending ( I don’t like it to end too soon or drag out too long). This book had all of that and more.
I cannot wait for his next one in 2024!

The Mother by T.M. Logan is a gripping thriller that hooks you from the start. Heather’s relentless fight to clear her name and reconnect with her sons makes for an emotionally charged, fast-paced story. The characters feel real, the backstory unfolds naturally, and the investigative layers keep the tension high. While the ending leans slightly over-the-top, it doesn’t overshadow the book’s strengths—I couldn’t put it down and finished it in just two sittings.

What stands out is Logan’s ability to balance tension with raw emotional stakes. Heather’s unstoppable determination as a mother drives the story forward, making this more than just a crime novel—it’s a story about sacrifice, truth, and redemption. If you love psychological thrillers with heart and twists, this one delivers.

I have a confession to make.. I haven’t read any TM Logan books before despite meeting Tim at Harrogate and arranging all his blogtours for him through his publisher.

The Mother is my first venture into the mind of TM Logan and is available to purchase now. In case you didn’t know, TM Logan has written 7 books in total, been a Richard & Judy book club choice and had two of his books turned into Netflix and CH5 dramas – The Holiday starring Jill Halfpenny and The Catch starring Jason Watkins.

So now we’ve familiarised ourselves with TM Logan’s incredible career, let’s look at The Mother in more detail. With an opening chapter of a women standing hidden in the shadows at the back of her own funeral, watching her two sons grieving you know you are in for a bumpy ride.

Heather was once a wife, a mother, a career woman and a respected member of the community. Nine years later having served time in prison for the murder of her husband, she’s out having lost everything and is desperate to prove her innocence and get her beloved boys back.

Thus begins her quest to clear her name and find her husband’s killer. Teaming up with a journalist they begin to delve deeper into her husband’s activitities as a politician but there are people out there who believe the past should remain in the past and will stop at NOTHING to make sure their secrets stay hidden.

This is a perfect airport read and I can see why so many readers love TM Logan’s books. They are quick and easy to read. They aren’t too taxing on the brain, the twists and turns keep the reader engaged throughout and overall the perfect read for thriller lovers.

The book begins in September 2023 at a church funeral. After this short prologue, we jump back to July 2013. Written in the first person, we read about a woman called Heather Vernon who is 33, a wife to Liam (36) and a mother of two young sons – Theo (4) and Finn (2). They live in Bath.

Heather is feeling their marriage isn’t going as well as she wants it to. They are both busy at work – she’s a Human Resources Manager - but now Liam is an MP, he’s away even more and spends less and less time with her and their sons.

They have a big argument one night, she goes to bed and he sleeps on the sofa. In the morning, she finds him dead, but what happened?

The novel moves between 2013 and 2023, as we try to piece the events together. Heather is jailed for her husband’s murder, yet protests her innocence. What really went on that night?

In the present-day chapters, her sons have grown up and she has missed spending all that time with them – a whole decade. Theo is fourteen now and Finn thirteen. As a mother myself, I could really sympathise with how much she wants to see them again and how frustrating it is that the legal system makes this so difficult.

As she starts her investigation she finds some unusual allies to help her, Jodie, her roommate in the hostel where she is staying and Owen the disgraced reporter who wrote an article querying the initial verdict.

However as they delve more deeply into the case it becomes apparent that they are getting too close to a truth that has been covered up for years and their lives are in danger.
