In a Nutshell: A Christmas story that isn’t a Christmas story. 😃

Holly and Noel are two elves who are very impressed with their grandfather’s idea of the ‘Festival of the Elves’. This involves leaving little trinkets and notes on every day of December in the houses of family and friends, giving them a nice surprise and a theme for the day. Holly and Noel want to spread this custom into the human world too, but as there is only a limited supply of elf magic, they are allowed to try it in one human house. Thus they land up at the Puddington residence. What do you think? Will they be able to spread as much cheer there with the Festival of the Elves?

The story is like a combination of an Advent calendar and a treasure hunt. Through the daily note left by the elves in a bid to encourage the Puddingtons to spread cheer, there are many beautiful and fun moments coming out. I loved the catchphrase: “The Magic around you is the magic you make.” A nice way of remembering that magic and happiness lies in our own hands and that cheer enhances when spread.

There are plenty of good themes coming out in the book: the importance of family time, having fun, spreading joy, the joy of sharing,… Kids will be encouraged to try out such activities at home too. It could become a nice family tradition for December.

You will find subtle references to Christmas throughout the book: the names of the two elves, a map at the start of the book that has a mention of Santa’s workshop, many Christmassy decorations at the Puddington house,… However, there’s no direct mention of the festival or of anything religious. This approach makes the book a wonderful December read for everyone and not just those who celebrate Christmas.

I would have loved some more focus on the reasons behind the characters’ actions. Many a time, it felt like we knew the whats but not the whys. The Puddingtons’ reaction to the note left by the elves left me with mixed feelings; I liked their enthusiastic reception to the activities suggested by the elves but wondered why they never questioned who or where were the elves who left the note every single day. Ah well, kids will enjoy the story regardless.

The vocabulary is quite easy and will work well for bedtime readalouds too, especially because of the little notes written by the elves infusing the story with wonder.

The illustrations are quite striking, though I wanted the elves to look more magical. The vivid colours ought to work wonderfully in the physical copy.

This is supposed to be the first of a trilogy, but I found the story quite complete in itself. There’s no clue about what direction the series will take as there’s no thread left hanging. Time will tell what magic is to be unfurled in the next.

A good read for its target age group of 3+ years.

3.75 stars.

Holly and Noel are an elf brother-sister duo living in the North Pole with their grandpa Norris Figgyworth. Their grandpa starts a tradition of celebrating December by spreading magic and love with cute handwritten notes.

The duo decides to spread the magical cheer amongst humans and go to Puddington’s home as an experiment. But will they be successful in helping humans make magic?

This is a super cute book about how love and positivity can spread cheer and make people happy. The story revolves around the theme, 'the magic around you is the magic you make'. The writing is simple, sweet, and heartwarming. The font is easy to read.

The illustrations are cheerful, warm, cozy, and magical. The elves look like anime characters on some pages. They are all cute, though. The older elves have quirky and long mustaches. There’s a lot of white for the snow, contrasted with a dark blue sky and a fuzzy green pine tree on the side. The book has a map of the North Pole too!

This is the first book of the trilogy but works as a standalone. Festival of the Elves: The Magic Around You is a lovely book with a message about spreading love and sharing happiness. The last page has a link to the website where people can write little notes to notes through December month and know more about the event.

I received an ARC from NetGalley and eWonderment, LLC, and am voluntarily leaving a review.

Quite a work with fun and binding story. Though these elves were so different from what I read from TLOTR. hahaha..
This is a story of two elf siblings, Holly & Noel, who inspired from their GrandPa Norris Figgyworth wanted to bring forth the elves' festival to humans all around and let them celebrate it too. So, to make it success they entered human world with their magic and let one family 'Puddingtons' to feel the magic around them.

Hence, they make it a tradition by sending elf notes to that family years after year (and that family to their friends and family further) and made these humans too have fun of what only elves enjoyed earlier to that time.

Illustrations are good specially the map. I wish I could hear te audiobook as well as previously I got an ARC to that but later when I missed the archived date, I requested for e-book and here it is.

I had the opportunity to listen to the audiobook ‘Festival of Elves’. with my eight year old daughter. It’s a cute book with a lot of holiday spirit. . The elves Holly and Noah visit a family and look for ways to make magic. Great lesson learned- to give more than you receive. I would think this book can become a holiday tradition for all families with young children. I love the narrator and the sound effects.- it felt magical.

Thank you NetGalley for the opportunity to review this audiobook

Thanks to NetGalley for providing me with a review copy.

Elliott’s FESTIVAL OF THE ELVES- THE MAGIC AROUND YOU is a super cute book for both children and adults alike. “The magic around you is the magic you make,” is a beautiful concept, and the book really drives home the message that sharing wonderful things with others always returns to us.

One of the things that I love about this book is the fact that the author created an accompanying website for kids to interact with that includes elf notes, recipes, and even a coloring book. By leaving the address at the end of the book, kids can easily find the site on the internet.

The illustrations by Mai S. Kemble were superb and filled the pages edge-to-edge with beautiful color, bringing the author’s words to life. This is a perfect seasonal book, and although it’s too big for a stocking suffer, it would definitely take pride of place underneath a Christmas tree.

Great read.

It’s a wonderful book, it captures the spirit and magic of Christmas. The book is quite different from other holiday books. The author covers Christmas traditions through beautiful characters.
.
“The magic around you is the magic you make."
.
The book is about the adventure of two young elves plunged into the human world on a stormy night. It’s a very short book for the young ones. Read it to them this Christmas, they will love it!
.
Christmas is built upon a beautiful and intentional paradox; that the birth of the homeless should be celebrated in every home, the special joys of giving. It's not how much we give but how much love we put into giving.

This short but incredibly-sweet little story is just the perfect story to listen to while making little presents for friends!! I can imagine that young kids would really love it (and old kids like me too). It doesn't get any cuter or sweeter than this. It would make a lovely bedtime story close to Christmas.

The audiobook is very well read (and at 11 minutes, you can totally fit it in anytime). I also quickly checked out the website that accompanies this book + audiobook, and there is a LOT there to explore. I have not seen the inside of the book, but the cover illustrations and website are great, so I assume that the story illustrations are too.

Much gratitude to the publisher, and NetGalley for an advanced copy of the audiobook in exchange for my honest review.

Great read.

Festival of the elves is a delightful christmassy read with beautiful illustrations. The story acknowledges the warmth and happiness associated with the gesture of sharing, goodwill and bliss of magic.

This is a joyous story about two elves who wished to share their special elves tradition with the rest of the world. Holly and Noel Figgyworth, the sister- brother duo, set out to the world to spread the magic to a family called the Puddingtons. Throughout the month of December, they were going to receive special notes that mark each day as a day to celebrate such as silly day, treat day and many more.

How will the humans react to this brand new tradition? And will the elves be successful in their special mission?

A profoundly deep and well-written story that will touch the heart of every one who believes and celebrates Christmas with love, gratitude and appreciation. And learning to see a new beginning means a new journey that's beautiful and amazing in every way possible. It was truly beautiful to see the Festival of the Elves and witness the magical story unraveling bit by bit.

To spread the holiday cheers and to believe in the magic of joy and happiness, this momentous book is a must read for everyone.

This was a fun audiobook - and I bet I it would be even better to listen to while looking at the physical book for the illustrations. The narrator did an excellent job of reading in a “younger” voice with a lot of expression, which would keep younger children engaged. The book has a nice message of generosity and kindness during the Christmas season. Rather than an elf that is focused on the child’s misbehavior, these eleves focus on what children and families can do for others. I think it could be a great holiday tradition to have one’s own “Festival of the Elves” each December. Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC!

Festival of the Elves: The Magic Around You
Holly Figgyworth (Angeli Elliott)
MaiS Kemble (Illustrator)
This is THE Christmas book for 2022! You will want this for the special children in your life.
The Festival of Elves began at the North Pole. Grandpa Figgyworth gave small notes and babbles to his elf family and friends during the month of December. The small gifts brought joy and made them feel loved. Years passed and the festival continued to bring happiness to all the elves. “The magic around you is the magic you make.”
Noel and Holly Figgyworth two young elf siblings, wanted to share the Festival of Elves with the human world. The head of the elf council thought sharing magic and happiness with humans was a wonderful idea. It was up to the two young elves, so they gathered their gifts and their magic-o-meter and began the trip south. They encountered the Puddington family and began the 24 days of the Festival of the Elves. The two young elves could not return home until their magic-o-meter was refuel with happiness. The Puddington family quickly picked up on the idea behind the festival and began spreading the happiness and good cheer. Once the magic-o-meter was refilled and the elves regained their magic. The humans enjoyed the festival so much they began sharing small gifts and notes with their friends and family. The Festival of the Elves quickly began to spread through the human world.
I love this book. The illustrations are beautiful. The tale is magical and will bring a smile to all who hear it. Like Grandpa said, “The magic around you is the magic you make.”

Festival of Elves is a great Christmas story that introduces many different ways in which to celebrate the holiday. Each day is celebrated by doing something different with your family or passing nice notes on to others. I particularly liked "gratitude day" as it reminds us to stop and be grateful for what we have and to be thankful for those things, especially during a holiday where children are often asking for more gifts or making wish lists for Santa. It's important to take a step back and realize that "getting" is not always what the holiday is about.

For me, although the message of the book was wonderful, the story was a little slow. In addition, while I like the new tradition of notes every night from elves, during the busy season of Christmas there are already so many traditions that we have - it would be hard for our family to adopt this one in as well. I wish we had found this prior to starting other similar traditions in our household - and I hope that other families find this early on in their children's lives. I do think we will incorporate some of the ideas into our regular elf traditions - especially "gratitude day."

The illustrations were good. Not overly detailed = but simple is good. The sketches were perfect for the story line. It was an easy read in under 10 minutes. The description does state that it is part of a trilogy - but it read well on it's own and didn't give the illusion that there was more to come, so I'll be anxious to see what comes out next!

Amazing book💯

The cold weather in December is perfect for reading heartwarming books. The holiday season including Christmas provides us the opportunity to cherish our friends and family and the joy of sharing and giving.

The Festival of the Elves captures this feeling of the holiday season through a beautiful and magical children's tale. It is the story of two elves who decide to introduce the Festival of the Elves in human world.

The Festival of the Elves was started by Grandpa Figgyworth when he started giving notes and trinkets to his friends and family in the month of December to make them happy and feel loved. Can this beautiful Festival be extended to the human world? How will Holly and Noel be able to introduce this festival? Read the book to find out!

Not only is this book a visual treat but it also gives a very beautiful message. The rich and beautiful illustrations engulf the reader into this beautiful world created by the author. The innocent and fun story makes us realize what is truly important in life and how we can create magic too by making others feel loved and by caring, sharing and giving. This is a beautiful book which children will love reading and will learn from.

Elves are often misunderstood and misrepresented over the Christmas period. As it is quite evident, we can see that Christmas cracker jokes have never been kind to these tiny heroes of the festive season.

Ever since I read a magisterial Lord of The Rings trilogy, I have been not only captivated but also fascinated by elves.

For some, they give a story a Tolkienesque enchantment. Others are mesmerized by the notion of mystical beings with a strong connection to nature. How they might view the world or live differently.

In either case, ‘Festival of the Elves: The Magic Around You’ by Holly Figgyworth is a great illustration book that will keep us focused through out the tenure and give the readers the chance to celebrate the extraordinary contribution these diminutive creatures make to Christmas itself.

This book is no doubt a children's story, however the moral lessons that it imparts definitely is something that we as adults can also learn from.

This was a perfect book for bringing in the holiday season, and the beautiful illustrations, along with the story make reading enjoyable and worthwhile. Hence I am going to give this book FIVE ELVES STARS ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐

" The magic around you is the magic you make . "

Grandpa Figgyworth used to say the above quote and began a festival of elves on the north pole . Years passed on and the festival of elves brought happiness for all the elves . Untill one fine day , Holly Figgyworth went up to the elves head council and questioned , why these happiness cant be shared with humans !

The head of the elves loved this idea of spreading magic and happiness to the humans as well and thus , Holly and her brother Noel were given this huge responsibility. Taking their magic-o-meter , trinkets and other stuff they began their journey away from North pole . Stumbled upon the Puddington family of four . Began the 24 days of spread of magic and happiness all around the humans , the festival of elves . Holly and Noel regained their magics once the happiness bar was set in the family and returned back to North pole .

I really loved reading this book with such beautiful illustrations in it . Christmas, the festival of happiness and magic everywhere lights up a smile on each child's face . I absolutely recommend this book to all childrens . Spread magic , spread happiness and let all shall be happy .

Festival of the Elves is a sweet and magical story of two elves and their wish to share the tradition and magic of the Festival of the Elves with humans.

This beautiful Festival was started by Holly and Noel's grandpa who believed that magic around you is the magic you create!, so each day in December he left lovely notes and trinkets for his family and friends to spread the love and joy amongst elves.

Now, Holly and Noel want that this festival shouldn't be limited to elves and Humans should also practice it. Will Holly and Noel be able to spread the joy of the festival in a human family?

I was constantly smiling while reading this book for it is such a sweet and magical tale. The story is perfect for the month of December and it reminds us that the joy of sharing and giving is nothing short of a magic.

The illustrations are so beautiful, it almost felt like I was watching a Disney movie on Christmas eve. This book is beautiful and a perfect gift for children during holiday season or for Christmas.

December the month of happiness, holidays, fun, family get together, SANTA CLAUS, gifts and much more. Who doesn't love this month. Festival of the Elves will take you on a wonderful journey, it will take you to the roots of your childhood.

Those were fun and amazing days, taking a paper and writing down our feelings and post it- letters. The feeling of joy when it was received, can't express.

Festival of the Elves: The Magic around you by Holly Figgyworth, takes you to the journey of two elves, where they leave letters of joy to bring the Puddington family and the people around the world together. They left no lines to make everyone happy and bring some magic in their lives.

The beautifully illustrated book is what you can gift to kids, this Christmas. It will show you the magic around you. The real magic is being with your loved ones and sharing moments of joy together.

Kindness and gratitude with some joy together will make you feel magic around you. So grab the copy in your hand to feel the magic🪄💫

Thank you NetGalley and eWonderment, LLC for a copy of "Festival of the Elves: The Magic Around You" in exchange for my honest review.

The book starts with a cute map to show kids where the North Pole is. The drawings are colourful and the characters are adorable.

Holly and her brother Noel are elves. Their grandpa Norris Figgyworth started the Festival of the Elves. The theme of the book is "Magic around you is the magic you make. It happens when you give more than you take." Holly and Noel decide that they want to share the magic with humans. They feel that when you do something special for someone else, your own magic grows.

The book has different activities for each day which can be adapted to suit each reader's family. There are fun things like "hide & seek, silly day, treat day, art day, riddle day, song & dance day". There is a website that parents, caregivers, or teachers can go on for Elf Notes (like they made in the story), recipes, facts, colouring pages and activity books.

This was truly a delight! So fresh and beautifully done, I'm not even kidding!

If you are a teacher for preschoolers, or even someone who'd like an annual family tradition for Christmas, this book is perfect for you! It has a sweet story with a great message for chilren, along with beautiful and festive pictures that instantly get you in the mood for Christmas.

I could be biased because I'm a die-hard Christmas fan, but there you have it. The story was short and adorable, with little rhymes and cute dialogues, and quite inspiring. I myself will definitely follow Holly's plan for my class this winter, and have already subscribed to the site recommended by the book to be informed when the appropriate activities will be updated and posted.

"The magic around you is the magic you make." - Grandpa Figgyworth

Anyone who knows me , knows that I love the month of December, especially Christmas. I swear, I fell in love with this story just by opening it. This is such a magical read and a beautiful tradition to share with loved ones.
I loved that the elves leave letters with different ideas for the family each day. There was a silly day and a gratitude day. So sweet to see the Puddington family come together after reading their letter. I can't wait to start this tradition with my son in December, to make more memories together. You truly are making your own magic.

The artwork is beautiful and I adore the maps on the end pages. There's just so many magical details throughout. It was a fun read with rhyming parts as well. I recommend this for all families, especially if you need a little extra magic.

Thank you so much to @festivaloftheelves for sending a copy my way in exchange for my honest review .

Festival of the Elves is a story book that's illustrated and is as joyful and magical as it sounds. It's a cute, fun and magical story about how two elf childrens started the tradition of gift giving when they saw that every night in December Grandpa Figgyworth left presents for the people of elf village.

Holy Figgworth and her brother Noel began their adventure on a twinkly, swirly, snowy night. Away from the North Pole for the first time, they were determined to share the elf tradition of merriment and kindness with the Puddington family.
Through their journey they discovered the true meaning of Grandpa Figgtworth's favourite saying "The Magic Around You Is The Magic You Make".

I loved how magically heartwarming this cute story was! I loved the two siblings going around spreading happiness. And I loved the illustrations too - they were drawn beautiful and full of vibrant colours.
Recommended to all childrens to have a fun experience with this Christmas book!

Looking for a little way to spread some joy and magic this gift-giving season? Holly and Noel love participating in the Festival of Elves, a month long celebration filled with sharing and games and silliness. They really want to share the Festival with humans, so they travel to see one special family. But they use up all their magic just getting there! They decide to make the best of it and begin sharing their traditions. Soon they learn the truth of the phrase "The magic around you is the magic you make."

While not overtly a Christmas book, this story is perfect for the holiday season, giving families the opportunity to participate in a new tradition. The main conflict isn't terribly compelling, but the interactive elements help make up for it. This is a fun book that families can use to connect and start creating new holiday memories.

A big thank-you to NetGalley, the author, and publisher for giving me a copy of this book for an unbiased review.

4.5/5 - Really liked it!

This was such a sweet and beautifully illustrated story. As a child, I absolutely loved any books that began with an illustration of a map - so I was thrilled to see that this one had a beautiful wintry map of the North Pole! The story follows the adventures of Holly and Noel, two Christmas elves who want to bring elf magic to human families. The narrative is sweet and focused on the Christmas joy that comes from showing your loved ones that you care about them. It's a wonderful lesson, but what really sold the book for me where the delightful illustrations of the elf town and its adorable denizens.

This is a fantastic book for families to read together to get into the holiday spirit!

I originally listened to the audiobook but was informed there was a digital copy of the picture book as well so I came back to look at the pictures and they are so pretty! The physical copy and audiobook would go so great together for little bedtime stories!

Original review:
Fun little quick Christmas story for the family. These sort of audiobooks remind me of those apps a decade or two ago where audiobooks had apps that sort of had a little play or something similar to make them visual novels. I loved these as a kid and it might've just been something only my school teachers at the time knew about but because of that, this story brought me so much nostalgia. I also think the narrator did a great job, had a clear voice, and was so fun.
