Some days it’s just too hot to get cool outside. Clifford has that same trouble one warm summer day. He’s a big dog that can’t get cool, and everything he tries ends up going wrong… Until he finds a waterfall in a river that works perfectly. And he ends up saving a boat from going over the falls, so a lot of good came out of the situation.

This was a cute story, and my daughter enjoyed it, and remembered Clifford saving the boat when I asked about it later.

It's a hot day out and Clifford is in distress. He trys to keep cool in various ways. He tries to drink water and tries to jump into both Emily's and the public's pools. He even tried to ride on top of a truck and takes advantage of air conditioners. Clifford is just too big to keep cool those ways. Then Clifford discovers a waterfall located at the edge of the town, where other people are also in distressed. Clifford knows just what to do in order to save them.

Oh, the funny ways a big dog like Clifford uses to keep cool! Filled with suspense and whimsy, which made my twos laugh. They liked predicting what would happen next in Clifford's adventurous search for a breeze!

Poor Clifford is so hot during the summer. He is trying to find different way to stay cool. He tries all of these different ways, and some people aren't too happy about it. Will Clifford finally find the best way to stay cool? Or will he stay hot for the summer?

Classic Clifford is always a welcome read-aloud when visiting the grandBs.
The nostalgia of reading these same stories when my children were little adds to the enjoyment of reading them again now.

Here in San Diego, we have been experiencing unusually hot and humid weather, so I felt like I had to include this particular Clifford title in Storytime today. It is the height of summer and Clifford tries all the usual methods to stay cool, but at his size they don't always work quite right. For instance, watching a dog riding in a car enjoying the cool breeze, Clifford climbs on top of a large truck - which cools him off...until the truck passes under a freeway overpass. He empties swimming pools and fountains, until finally, Emily Elizabeth finds the perfect cooling spot for him: under a waterfall in a park. Not only is he finally happy, but he manages to save a boat load of kids in a canoe who were about to plunge over the falls. You gotta love this dog! We had a lively discussion about all the things my storytime audience did to stay cool this summer and all during the story they continued to share.

I love Clifford books because Clifford and Emily Elizabeth are both such loveable characters. I would use this book in the classroom to work on beginning, middle, and end. The story is pretty straight foreward and the students should be able to recite what happened in the beginning, the middle, and the end.Students can also work on predicting and predict what will happen to Clifford each time he tries a new way to keep cool.

Finally, a serious consideration of the biological problems of Clifford's temperature regulation. A dog scaling up to that size isn't effective in a number of ways, and his poor internal systems must be constantly overtaxed just to keep him going. As sobering as this reality check is, I'm glad to see these tough issues being tackled at long last.

It's summer and Clifford the Big Red Dog is having a terrible time trying to keep cool. He sees other dogs riding in vehicles to stay cool, but it's hard when you're as big as Clifford. He finally finds a spot to cool off and ends up saving some children in the process.

On a sweltering day, Clifford tries to find a way to cool off. But a swimming pool is too small, a single fan doesn't help....how can such a huge dog cool down?
