In this Third Edition of their bestselling text, Kathryn Geldard and David Geldard provide a practical introduction to the principles and practices required for successful counseling, to show that working with young people can be both challenging and effective. The Third Edition has been completely revised and updated, and includes two new chapters. The book is divided into three main parts, covering: How to understand the young client as a personThe pro-active approach of working with young peopleThe counseling skills and strategies needed
This book was presented to my classmates and I during our second year of master's (children and adolescents counselling) and it was much more interesting than I had expected. It doesn't necessarily bring new insights into children & adolescents counselling (for those licensed in psychology) but what makes this book applicable are the practical tips and worksheets presented at the back, which can be printed and worked through with their designed population.
This text book receives a rather high rating from me because I honestly feel that it is readable. I found myself internalizing content easier through this. The flow is rather easy to follow as well. Foresee myself needing a quick pick-me-up in future, if I decide to specialize in the area. Definitely not as scary-looking as other textbooks for university reads!
