I loved this sweet book. It didn’t focus too much the bees and concentrated more on the business side and of course, the romance. This was an easy read just right for this time of year. I just curled up and enjoyed every page. Even though it’s book 10 this was easily a stand alone read. My thanks to Netgalley and the publishers for giving me the opportunity to read this book in return for an honest review.

Have I mentioned recently how much I love, The Love Heart Lane series, and Heartcross and all of its inhabitants?

Have I also mentioned that I adore Christie Barlows writing, always devour it and thoroughly enjoy every single word?

Because both of those statements are true for this new book too, utterly brilliant,

I could tell there were secrets being hidden but the depths of them took me completely by surprise, Didn't see that coming at all.

From the moment I met Jinny I loved her, and even more so once she moves to Heartcross.

I loved finding out more about The Bees Knees, and learnt far more about chutney than I have ever hd the desire to know!

And her first days in her new job alongside Gabe are hilarious, especially involving a bee sting, which had me laughing out loud.

The writing made me feel completely at home, as though I was being welcomed back to old friends (which as an avid fan of the series, I really was, always good to catch up with everyone), and the story felt like a warm hug.

With fabulous characters, fantastic writing, and just a feeling that these are real people in a real place and not fictional, I loved every second of this book.

Thank you to One More Chapter and Netgalley for this copy which I have reviewed honestly and voluntarily.

This is book #10 in the Love Heart Lane series. I've read all the previous books in the series and have loved them all, so had no reason to think I wouldn't love this one! We return back to the delightful Scottish village of Heartcross where Jinny Birdwhistle has applied for the job of chutney maker! Jinny was a journalist in London working alongside her father, but after taking stock of her life and career she decides to take her life in a completely different direction - hence the long journey up to Heartcross! I loved Jinny's character, she was just so likeable and was someone who you could really relate to! Her relationship with her father hasn't been a good one since her mother died many years before, and you could completely understand her reasons for wanting a fresh start!

If you've read the previous books, you'll know how beautiful the little village of Heartcross is, and it was wonderful to be back there! It was especially fun to be amongst the honey and chutney making business and the author's descriptions of how this worked was so well researched! The descriptions of collecting the honey from the beehives was fascinating, but I could so understand Jinny's nerves even with her bee suit on! I would have loved to work alongside Gabe however, who was as hot as a hot summer's day. He did though seem to have some unresolved issues in his life, which were revealed as their stories moved on!

It was great to meet up with some of the other villagers who I've come to love over the course of the series. Jinny fitted right into the little community liked she'd lived there all of her life, and I loved the possible chance of romance and happiness for her! I absolutely loved this book and fell right into the storyline right from the first page - it was just like I'd never left! There was lots of love, life and laughter, and the beautiful scenery of Bumblebee Cottage's gardens gave me stunning summery images on this cold, windy day! I really do love this series, and am so happy to see that there are more books planned! Would recommend!

I have enjoyed most of this series but I feel it’s gone on too long. Introducing pointless new characters into such a small village, it’s just odd. Jinny was a strange lead character. A clueless twenty something who decides she will move to the country and make chutney and tend bees despite having zero experience. Unsurprisingly she gets the job, the man, everything. Yet she remains clueless. The timeline with her father’s story was off. Babe hiding basically everything was weird. The timeline of the two meeting and immediately falling in love was weird too.

Who wears a hippie costume of painted dungarees to a job interview? The whole thing was just weird.

I received a free copy of, The Hidden Secrets of Bumblee Cottage by Christie Barlow, from the publisher and Netgalley in exchange for an honest review. This is book number 10, in the Love Heart Lane Series, by Christie Barlow. Sick of her job and how it changed who she is, Jinny decides to quit and move away. Jinny finds out about a village named Heartcross, and is instantly intrigued. Jinny some how manages to get a job as a beekeeper, and settles into village life, until she realizes there is a mystery to be solved. I really enjoyed this book, the best in the series I believe.

I adore this series and it is great to meet another character who is due to become the next resident of Heartcross in the Love Heart Lane series.

Jinny is a journalist in London, he father owns the paper and she wants nothing. It is her father's attitude that makes her stop and want to evaluate what she is doing. After an exchange of words, Jinny leaves London, her flat and her job to try to get a job in the adorable Scottish village.

Bumblebee Cottage used to belong to Dixie and George, it is now empty and waiting for the next chapter in its history. Jinny has big boots to follow but the gorgeous Gabe will be around to help her when she needs it. Did I mention that Gabe has a secret? No! Oh, he isn't the only one who does though...

This is another gorgeous read and one that I really enjoyed from the outset. Jinny is a character who I liked, while she has had everything handed to her, including her job, flat and car, she has not had much in the way of choice. It is when her father wants her to intrude on someone's private life that she realises that she doesn't want this life, that people have rights and that her father has no moral boundaries.

Coming to Heartcross is a step away from everything she knows. Luckily the community is supportive and amazing, if you have read any of this series then you will already know this. If you haven't then go to the beginning of the series and dread them, you will get to know the area, and the community and they are all amazing books.

Anyway, where was I? Yes, supportive community... and they do look out for visitors and guests. It turns out that Gabe has a few secrets and this is something that the journo in Jinny just has to delve into. Apart from that, if you knew you liked someone and wanted to know a bit more you would do the same thing. Before you sit there and shake your head and deny it, have you looked people up on Facebook, Instagram or other social media sites? Yep, I knew you had!

So the secrets, are good and they are also heartbreaking. But this is not a sad book, it is one about making fresh starts and Bumblebee Cottage is just the place for that. Once a thriving business makes chutneys and honey, it needs a new occupier to breathe fresh air into the jars and recipes. Will Jinny be the one to do that and can Gabe help her or is there too much hurt for them?

This is a fabulous book and one fan of cosy, heartwarming, contemporary fiction and romance will adore it. I have loved every book in the series and this is another that hits all the right spots and I would definitely recommend it.

What a way to end 2022! A trip to my favourite Scottish village, Heartcross. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, I love this location Christie Barlow has created. It feels like I’m taking a trip to somewhere that’s home from home.

Jinny needs a fresh start and what could be further from the stressful world of Fleet Street than relocating to Heartcross. Yes that’s a 568 mile move from a flash flat in central London to a cottage in rural Scotland. Is this the move of a lifetime or the biggest mistake she’s made?

I loved meeting Jinny. She’s determined to make a new life for herself in Heartcross and prove her overbearing father wrong. The way she is welcomed to the village is what I’d expect from this friendly community. I so wish it was real!

Now Gabe’s anti-press anti-social media stance was intriguing; obviously, like Jinny, I wanted to know why. Thankfully the more I read, the more I found out 🤐🤐 but you’ll have to read this yourself to find out why. But their rapport is electric – sparks flew like fireworks – will they or won’t they??!

The Hidden Secrets Of Bumblebee Cottage is a very welcome addition to the Love Heart Lane series. Barlow has passed this sun-loving girl a bit of summer in the depths of winter. I’ve run out of superlatives when it comes to Barlow’s books. They are heartwarming and welcoming, brilliantly written with. I’m addicted to the series and this gorgeous community and landscape she’s created. My trip to Bumblebee Cottage left me all warm and fuzzy – loved it!

An amazing read so easy and so lovely to go back to heartcross again with great characters and the plot is very good to.
Jinny wants a new start away from her father and her job but he doesn’t believe it will last but she lands a job with the bees at heart cross and travels to Scotland and as soon as she gets to the village she sees Gabe the bee keeper and her heart skips a beat but they are both hiding something and when things get hard what will happen.

Another gorgeous story from Christie Barlow. I’ve loved being back at Heartcross and being reunited with old friends in this wonderful setting has been like coming home. Jinny and Gabe are great characters and the chemistry between them sizzled from the very beginning. The magic of Heartcross was at work from early on and I loved seeing this story develop.

Sorry, lots of people clearly loved this book, so I am clearly missing something here. Everything so perfect and idyllic, and totally predictable. Badly written too, I fear no one proof read the book either, so many grammatical errors. Sorry, it wasn't the book for me.

May as well start with the housekeeping … read the series and do not look back. You are missing a treat if you don’t and really, who doesn’t like treats?

I loved this book. Won’t lie - to took a little while to warm to Jinny. It wasn’t an immediate affinity as it has been with some of the other characters in the series, but when i say a little while, I mean only a page or two. Maybe one chapter. The more we learn about her, about her past and her desire to step out of the shadow of her father and his dubious approach to journalism, the more I liked her. And then, as the book progresses and it is clear just how determined and yet hideously out of her depth she is taking over a jam making business, the more of a smile she brought to my face. Jinny is refreshingly honest, eventually, and a little accident prone in a way that will make anyone laugh, especially, it seems her new colleague Gabe.

It’s maybe not quiet love at first sight, but it’s a pretty close run thing and you know from the very moment they meet that there is a spark between the pair. Christie Barlow excels at pulling us into the thick of these relationships, making the meet cute moments pack a punch, and setting us up for what will be the highlight of the book. And what a pair they make too. Not because of the obvious either. Both of them are nursing secrets. Jinny disguising her identity and hiding any link to her father’s legacy. Gabe … well his is an entirely different story, one which Jinny’s journalistic instinct drives her to get to the bottom of.

Neither life, or love, seem to run smoothly for Jinny, a few little hiccups adding emotion and a touch of conflict to her story. But there is no denying that she means well, especially when she determines to put Bee’s Knees on the map by winning the Summer Fair’s best local produce competition. She puts heart and soul into her entry, despite a few heartbreaks along the way, set on repaying the trust that Molly and Cam placed in her, and honouring the memory of the businesses founders, Dixie and George Bird. It echoes the warmth at the heart of this book, and the final chapter really encapsulates the joy that is the Heartcross family.

There is a brief shadow cast over this story though, one that links back to Jinny in unexpected ways. Far from a random town in a remote part of Scotland that was meant to be an entirely new start for her, she actually finds herself caught up in a truly tragic story which has an air of authenticity about it and is very reminiscent of a not too distant event that has been back in the headlines not too long ago.

Christie Barlow has done a great job of drawing attention to the integrity of celebrity journalists and the lengths some people will go to in order to get a story, not matter what the cost. The consequences in this case are far reaching, and emotional, but not too a point that will overwhelm the story. The author is too skilled for that, giving the storyline just enough gravitas to leave a mark but bookending it with the warmth and acceptance that comes from the very heart of Heartcross.

Another beautiful, heartwarming and sometimes thought provoking story and a wonderful addition to the Love Heart Lane series. Fans are going to love Jinny and Gabe, and just get swept up in their story. Personally, I’m left wondering whether or not the author is going to publish some of these recipes she seems to like taunting us all with throughout the series. With so many great chefs and foodie types in Heartcross, a Love Heart Lane cookbook doesn’t sound like a bad idea now, does it?

Jinny Birdwhistle is the daughter of the business Tycoon who owns "The Daily News." It was always expected that she'd work in the business and he was determined that she wouldn't be handed the top position on a plate. However Jinny doesn't agree with the immorality of doing anything to chase a story .... literally! So she decides to leave her London life behind for Heartcross Village. She interviews and is successful for a job in Bumblebee Cottage making chutney and honey. Where she meets Gabe Warner who has been in the village 10 years but is he what he seems and has he told the villages everything? Can Jinny make Heartcross her home or will she be running back to London tail between her legs?

After reading book 2 in the series "Foxglove Farm." I have been following the author. Knowing I wanted to read all the books in the Love heart Lane series. So far I have read all the books after and including book 2.

This is book 12 however you would not know this when reading it and this book makes a great stand alone. Something I think this author has got down to a fine art. Although I can guarantee you'll soon be reading the rest of the series because you just won't want to leave Heartcross

It's always great to meet your old friends again in the next book and watch how their lives become what they wanted from it throughout their own book. This book really sums up each character and how they're life has turned into its own. It really brings them all together and refreshes you memory- not that you ever forget them.

Furthermore the community spirit in Heartcross particularly at the summer fair just shows how everyone only wants the best for you. Something you can only hope is replicated in your own community.

This book is a great romance read. Although their are some emotional subjects included in this book such as LGBTQ+, death, sperms donation and family feuds amongst other things. I do not feel this takes away from the romantic feel of the book but has you heart growing fonder of the struggles each character faces and you feel yourself trying to unpick the mystery which evolves with every passing page. Whilst being thankful that Christie brings up and raises the profile of important and often taboo subjects in modern Britain. Which effect the world more than anyone realises.

I Cannot wait to read the next book as always.

I would also say that I much prefer the titles like the other books of eg "Heartcross Castle." I feel changing it to the long title it now is 1, doesn't roll off of the tongue so easy and 2, isn't in keeping with the love heart Lane brand. This doesn't effect the book hence my review is no different but just a thought for the publishers and one I also said since book number 8.

I have often describe these books as sagas that are perfect for Sunday night television, and this the latest novel is no exception. They are so enjoyable that they actually become more difficult to review as each book goes on, as the story of Love Heart Lane and Heartcross has evolved so much since the very beginning.

I implore anyone to read the first, read the last or any in between and you will immediately be transported and captured in Heartcross that you will never want to leave.

In this book, Jinny decides that life working for a megalomaniac newspaper editor, who is also her father is too much and she quits. She quits everything her job as a journalist, her flash car, her posh flat, basically her life and with nothing tying her to London anymore takes up a job in Heartcross at The Bees Knees. This job tending bees and making chutney is far from her previous life as you can get. Jinny really isn’t suited to this job.

Heartcross attracts all those who need help to heal from whatever has happened to them in the past and it is that which draws Jinny to the job and place and perhaps why she was chosen for the role. Jinny gets to meet Gabe who helps her out at The Bees Knees so she can learn the ropes. Jinny’s enthusiasm knows no bounds and you can predict perhaps some of the bother that she is going to get into, but all with the wisdom of youth and exuberance Jinny does manage to make it all work.

However there is something mysterious about Gabe, and Jinny can’t help that she is curious. Clearly being a journalist never goes away. But is the truth what Jinny is expecting and can Gabe really let anyone close to him?

Great to see familiar characters from the series appear, especially Molly and Cam from the previous novel which is how the threads of the place keep me interested and returning book after book.

A prefect book to fill your heart with sunshine in the dreary winter month filled with laughter and romance. What more could you want. Just more from the series that’s all!

🍯An exuberant London gal takes little Heartcross by storm: delightful!🌄

This story had great warmth and humor, plus it's set in a small Scottish country town that's more a team than just neighbors. A cozy and sweet romance, actually, with a really strong feeling of community. And I loved the mouth-watering treats these rural independent businesses were producing: not a place to visit while anyone's on a restrictive diet!

Jinny, a born and bred Londoner, comes to small Heartcross for a new start. She's a bit accident prone and supplies the locals with chuckles almost on a daily basis until she gets into the swing of her new life learning the ropes of chutney and honey production and sales. Her romantic interest is a man of periodic sadness and mystery. That secrecy, added to Jinny's decision to start out with a new name to hide her connection to a controversial newspaper magnate, end up supplying a bit of drama that I liked. I prefer romances that have some misunderstandings to clear up or obstacles to overcome.

Jinny turns out to be a real dynamo, ready to respect the business history but also with a mountain of ideas for making it expand and thrive. Her attitude certainly won me over and apparently had the same effect on the residents of Heartcross.

This was the third story I'd read in the series which, from what I've read, is getting better and better. I'm already looking forward to the next in the series and going back a bit to spend more time immersed in Heartcross life.

Thanks to Harper Collins UK/One More Chapter and NetGalley for sharing a complimentary advance copy of the book; this is my voluntary and honest opinion.

The Hidden Secrets of Bumblebee Cottage by Christie Barlow

I received an advance review copy for free thanks to NetGalley and One More Chapter and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Blurb

When Jinny Birdwhistle is pushed over the edge one time too many times and quits her job as a tabloid journalist, an impromptu – and rather unconventional – job search leads her to a new house, car, and career making honey and chutney in the small Scottish village of Heartcross. And with handsome beekeeper Gabe Warner to help her learn the ropes, she’s ready to embrace ‘country girl life’ and leave the past behind her.

But now that she’s at home in Heartcross, she won’t have to do it alone…

My Opinion

I have read a few books in this series but each has worked well as a standalone - it is always nice to return to Heartcross and catch up with the residents. This was a lovely, easy read, just perfect for a weekend escape. Jinny quits her job as a journalist and needs to find a new job and somewhere to live, she is intrigued by the thought of moving to Heartcross and becoming a beekeeper. This was an enjoyable read with secrets to be discovered.

This book is a Hallmark movie.

Fed up with the rat race and the moral tightrope of her job as a journalist, Jinny quits her high-profile job and heads for the countryside, where she can live in peaceful obscurity. Impetuously, she answers a wanted ad for a job in the sleepy little village, populated with cardboard characters who this reader suspects are each starring characters in their own Hallmark story, which must be detailed in the other 10 books of the Love Heart Lane Series.

By chapter 3, Jinny is living at Bumblebee Cottage, making honey chutney. But the hunky beekeeper she works for is harbouring secrets. Why is he so reclusive? Why was he spotted lurking around at the waterfront mansion outside town? And why does he hate journalists so much? Can our heroine discover her heartthrob’s secret before he discovers hers? Maudlin and sentimental, the plot moves along wooden until all is finally revealed in time for the village Best Local Product Contest.

No surprises here. This was my first read of this series - and my first read of this genre - and it’s not really my thing. It’s an easy read with a story obviously meant to be pleasantly charming, but which comes across instead to be overly sentimental and somewhat cloying. I suspect that it is the genre rather than the book itself which I dislike.

I keep returning to the ‘Love Heart Lane’ Series whenever I need a heart-warming, comforting read. You know exactly what you are going to get and that’s ok. It is like a warm hug in a book.

This instalment revolves around Jinny, a journalist who works for her overbearing fathers newspaper. After he once again oversteps the ethical boundary she quits, and not just quits but leaves her apartment, car and London for a new start and job in Heartcross Village.

However, her fresh start that begins like a dream come true begins to unravel as she falls for Gabe who seems to have a lot of secrets and an inherent distrust of all journalists not knowing that Jinny used to be one. She slowly starts to uncover secrets which threaten her new life.

Unlike the other series in the Love Heart Lane books I found this story a little too sickly sweet. Jinny seems to too easily get the job, the house, make friends and find potential love within the first chapter and although these themes run in the other books there is always more work involved and more build up.

I also felt that the amount of characters linked to Gabe’s story towards the end became confusing and difficult to follow. Likewise, Jinny’s arc with her father seemed to be unfinished and rushed.

It hasn’t put me off continuing the series but this has definitely been my least favourite so far

Having spent several weeks and months reading Christmas-themed books, I decided that this would be the perfect opportunity to get back into what has been referred to as a ‘normal’ book. Whilst I understand the sentiment, there’s nothing normal about this series as each instalment brings a special kind of magic.
The main characters of Jinny and Gabe are beautifully drawn, and I was almost instantly engaged in their stories. Jinny had made an enormous, career-altering decision that had brought her to Heartcross. Gabe had his own reasons for being mysterious about his past and I felt strongly connected to their journeys.
As the title may suggest, the theme of this book follows beekeeping and honey production. There have been a few books in recent years with a similar focus, but there is plenty of room for them all and I still find the topic to be intriguing.
If you have read any of the other books in this series, you’ll appreciate the cameo appearances of some of the previous characters each adding to the magic of the story without leaving the reader confused.
Bumblebee Cottage is a fabulous destination; unlocking its secrets is gently handled and well worth the patience. It was the perfect story to help clear my Christmas reading hangover and I loved every moment of it!

The Hidden Secrets of Bumblebee Cottage is the latest novel in Christie Barlow’s Love Heart Lane series. We are once again back in the gorgeous Scottish village of Heartcross with plenty of our favourite characters plus newcomers Jinny and Gabe.

When Jinny is pushed over the edge one too many times by her father, she gives up her home and journalism career and moves to Heartcross and embarks on a new career making chutney and honey under the watchful gaze of gorgeous Gabe. However there is more to Gabe than he’s willing to share and Jimmy finds her journalistic instincts kicking in once again and she uncovers a mystery that has links to her family.

I love this series of books and found this one impossible to put down. From the first chapter I was completely immersed in the story and totally lost myself in village life. Fantastic characters and a great plot line. I completely devoured each page. Thank you to NetGalley, Harper Collins UK One More Chapter and the author for the chance to review.

The Hidden Secrets of Bumblebee Cottage by Christie Barlow

Jinny’s life is in crisis she quits her job as a journalist at a tabloid newspaper owned by her father as she says he is completely immoral on people and ruining their lives she is now jobless as well as homeless. She needs to find a job and a home in one urgently. As luck would have it she finds a job as a chutney and honey maker in the Scottish highlands that comes with a house to live to help run the business. There she meets heart throb beekeeper Gabe Warner - the strong unassuming silent type. A new life and she isn’t looking back.

A fabulous book humour , quirky characters and let’s not forget ’Claude’ the lovable dog who just loves a sausage roll. This is a story with secrets ,twists and beautiful scenery into the bargain. I want to live there!

Another great book in a memorable series though it can be read as a standalone.

Extremely well written and was read in one sitting. Here’s hoping for more of the same !

I guess that these books appeal to many people, but for me, it was just an overload of twee.

I wonder whether the author has ever been to Scotland where they famously can get all four seasons in a single day. The whole story is set in a picture postcard village bathed in perpetual sunshine. The characters are simply too good to be realistic and Americanisms keep creeping in - bathrooms, apartments, size 8 dresses.

I bought the book because I wanted an easy and undemanding read and the opening chapters looked promising. Sadly it did not live up to expectations. I did stick with it to the end though, just to find out what the big secret was.

This is a cute addition to an ongoing series. This book can be read as a standalone.

Jinny worked for her father's tabloid paper and finally had enough. After quitting, she finds an opportunity that is too good to miss: working at a Scottish chutney store for at least 6 months. She immediately packs up and heads to Scotland.

As soon as Jinny enters the tiny village of Heartcross, she is in love with its charm. She will be working closely with Gabe, a handsome beekeeper she met in the local bake shop, Soon she discovers that there is more to Gabe than she first thought....
