Amy Cross is a crazy prolific author who’s written about 8 million books. She’s compared a lot to Darcy Coates, another prolific female horror author, but Amy’s books tend to be edgier and more macabre. The short stories in this collection were some of her tamer ones, and none of them reached the level of some of her scarier stories like Stephen. 3 stars.

September 10, 2020This book of over 430 pages contains eight of the prolific Amy Cross’s speculative short stories, and they offer much for an inquisitive mind to mull over. Tales akin to Rod Serling’s “Tales From the Dark Side” run from sadly sweet to frightening or truly sarcastic. (Or, that may be my interpretation of the concluding line of one of the stories. “No matter how bad 2019 has been, 2020 can’t be worse.” Bahahaha! Since this book was published in the spring of 2019, I must wonder, Oh, Ms. Cross, did you look into an enchanted crystal ball to achieve that level of cheek?)
Some of the stories collected herein were previously published, while others were penned specifically for this collection. Mysterious manuscripts. Grave Robbers from the time of Queen Anne in jolly old England. Resurrectionists. Mind Control. The stories branch into several genres, from Gothic to horror, ghost story to sci-fi, yet all of them explore an undeniable part of living - That is to say, they all force their characters to look death in the face. The question then becomes, are we, as readers, brave enough to do the same.

Great spooky short stories
Amy Cross is a fantastic author and Dark Little Wonders is just fantastic and full of short scary stories, just the way I like it! Each story is it's own and will keep you on the edge of your seat begging for more, I sure am! Ok now I'm off to start reading The Butcher's Husband & Other Stories by Amy Cross. Happy reading 📚💕

“No matter how bad 2019 has been, 2020 can’t be worse “

Overall an ok-ish read, not as good as some of her previous works .

Rating an anthology is always hard. I feel like some of the stories were around 3.5 while some others were like 2.5. So, 3 stars it is!

This was so freaking awesome - well if you ignore the last story which I ended up skimming, but hey each to our own, someone might find that story interesting, it is however not me.
But as usually the author does not dissappoint.
It is a super gritty collection, and you should be ready for some very uncomfortable and uncompromising stories if you pick this up.

Okayish. Most of the stories has a great buildup imo, but the resolution and the twist are not that satisfying.

Well I must say that this book was a surprise. As Marlon Brando said in Apocalypse Now "The horror, The Horror". This was so well written and it kept you in suspense in each separate story Stories that were scary and horrific . Some of them also produced goose bumps.
If you like weird then this book is for you. I look forward to reading more of Amy Cross's works.

Dark Little Wonders
I always feel that Ms. Cross holds back. The stories are long enough to deliver a more intense read, ones that you don't want to stop reading. I'm going to admit that a couple of these stories, I couldn't wait for the story to end.
The last story brings about a hint when the deceased character comes back to tell his still living buddy that he now knows where the 6/7 treasures are really at this time, he then refers to names and items that were in the previous stories. I assume this is a way to lure me into the next book. To my thinking, I do not particularly care enough about any characters in this collection, to revisit them again. ☕
But as I like Amy Cross and her writing, I've already bought another if her books. 📚

Absolutely wonderful Storytelling!
Amy Cross is a fabulous storyteller! Every story was entertaining and original! From a murder covered up by the 911 tragedy, a haunted old book with a nasty caretaker to a haunted lost love with a twist, these stories come to vivid life through the mind of Any Cross! This was my introduction to this author i am a major fan! Dark, chilling and amazing!!

A very good read!
I thoroughly enjoyed reading this selection of short stories by Amy Cross. They were intelligent and satisfying, not horror as such, but creepy and macabre to be sure. The quality of Amy Cross' writing tends to fluctuate widely but this selection of stories was very good indeed.

How does she write so much and so well? Good book of short stories. Some things didn’t ring true. Notes of 9/11..I was there in New York City. The 15 year old in the one story that knows Latin? At 15? Otherwise the character development was always solid. Real page turning stuff

Very entertaining stories that are probably going to be in this book. Cat food and water is going well with your family and friends are probably going to be in my head. The last story brings the book together so be sure to read it.

One of the best reads this year
A great anthology that roped me in from the get go. The tales are diverse and twisted. A great thriller with class and finesse. I couldn't wait to finish the book, but am sad that the adventure had come to an end.

Another enjoyable collection of short stories. I definitely like her short stories over her series. My only thing was the last story. It did t really go anywhere and seemed more like an introduction (where I think it would’ve been better placed) than a kind of wrap up.
