Undone By Blake Pierce This is a fairly short mystery that mostly introduces the cast of characters and how the main character ends up where she is at the end of the book. It's entertaining enough for a first read but not the kind of book you would want to re-read.
This storyline was so unrealistic I couldn’t begin to believe it.
An FBI agent on drugs and a renegade pretty nearly single handled conquers a mob. Get real!! I’ve read many mysteries and detective books that were somewhat unbelievable but this beats them all. And the story line is not that impressive.
It’s more about Cora, her problems and unbelievable prowess as a bad ass. Not for me.
Reads like a cheese-tastic, suspend-your-disbelief Jason Statham action movie with a wannabe Lisbeth Salander main character. (Lisbeth called. She wants her haircut back.) Entertaining if only to laugh at moments like, "She flung her knife. It lodged in his neck." Also good for a drinking game: drink every time the word "prickle" (all forms accepted) appears in the text.
This was okay. I'm not sure if it suffered from first book syndrome, but I felt like we got a lot of info about Cora dumped on us in strange instances. During an illegal entry on an FBI mission, she gets a pretty intense, all-consuming, flashback to her days in the desert, but it doesn't impede her progress. She still kills everyone without any mortal danger to her person.
It was kind of boring but to be fair it was the first book I’ve read where the setting was in Colorado and the main female character was an absolute bad ass. It was really unreasonable and wouldn’t recommend.
A quick read. Read like I was watching mission impossible. The author really likes the word hastened. If it were a drinking game I would have died from alcohol poisoning. Ha!
Not great. The character is very annoying and hard to root for. She acts very entitled to her ex-lover who literally owes her nothing. She haphazardly mentions her sister is missing and now wants to look for her.. in the epilogue. The whole book with no mention of that. Just felt very random and thrown in. Also not the writers fault but the audiobook I listened to had terrible production value with sometimes end of words being cut off and a sentence being repeated

She is strong and well written. Worth reading the next book in the series. Good suspense. Unfortunately easy to figure out before the end but I didn't figure it out till more than 1\2 way. So well worth mystery to read
Cora is a strong woman with all the good skills she developed being a SEAL and FBI agent. However, she bent the rules too much and got fired from the FBI, which led her to work as a vigilante persona, finding bad guys and bringing them to justice with the help of her ex-FBI partner. A thrilling first book, let's see what adventures will follow!
I was sure I would like this book because I have read many of the author’s Reilly Paige series. This is the first and last Cora Shields book I will read. Cora was like a Rambo character. I skipped through most of the shooting, fighting, and killing just to finish this book. I didn’t find it thrilling, just boring.
Cora Shields is a mess, ex-SEAL, drug addict, depressed and fired from the FBI. She goes to funeral of SEAL friend only to find the daughter of friend has been kidnapped...or has run away. Cora takes the search on herself. Leads to several unbelievable twists along the way. I didn't care for the writing style, the unbelievable story and the character wasn't well developed. Not into this series.

I've read a few books by Blake Pierce (not in order and it didn't matter at all) and this is Book 1 in the Cora Shields series. The female narrator, Emma A. Gould, has a wonderful, no-nonsense, English accent, and is enjoyable to listen to. This takes place in Virginia. I would consider these books to be similar to others categorized as "beach reads", wherein there is some ease knowing who Cora Shields is: intelligent, street smart, gutsy, vibrant, strong, former-FBI agent, a formidable opponent for anyone, as well as it being a relatively short audiobook (5 hours). Get lost in an easy to like and enjoy novel with a strong, kick-ass, female lead.
Reading about a character with trauma/addiction is always difficult for me, as someone who deals with mental health issues. So this was a rough start. But on a stable day, I got through that rough part, and was able to properly enjoy the story.
Cora is a force of nature, my favorite kind of character. I would love some backstory of her time with the SEAL's, a rare position for a woman to hold, but this starts off with her time as an FBI agent. Or how she exited the agency, more accurately. But going rogue has always been more her style, and maybe it's the outlet she truly needs. I do so love a rogue, too. I'm curious where she'll go next, considering she picked up this job sort of accidentally.
I loved the detail in this story. Sometimes, the details are easier to skim over, but not here. I really felt immersed in the story, was able to visualize it and feel it, down to how to properly hold and use an M16. Not that I have any intention of testing that out in real life.... There were a couple of little things that made me ask the oh-so common question 'Did this have an editor?' But they weren't so much that I was taken out of the story.
Before this, my first taste of BP's work was Ella Dark #1, and I think I liked this better. It was better written, made more sense (fewer plot holes), and I am looking forward to the next one.
I believe that Undone is Blake Pierce’s debut novel. It’s of the #thriller, #mystery #crimedrama variety, but you should probably wait for the author to get a little more experience, in my opinion. The story is about an ex-Navy seal named Cora, who has been some places and seen some things that still haunt her. Her baggage and inability to follow the rules lead to her being fired from the FBI. But does that stop her? Nooooo! She starts investigating crimes as a favor for a deceased friend, and wouldn’t you know it, she excels at vigilante justice. This plot is so contrived and unbelievable that it’s as cheesy as a William Shatner infomercial. The main character is flat and unlikeable, and she really remains that way throughout the novel. Her love interest comes off as a part GQ model, part computer genius, and part Big Lebowski. Not kidding. It is pretty short, and that’s probably the best thing about it. I’m giving it 2 stars only because it is the first attempt. So it’s a really a 1 star with points for effort. Do yourself a favor and skip it. #bookstagram #bookstagrammer #booksbooksbooks #book #books #booklover #booknerdforlife #bookrecommendations #bookrecs #bookrec #bookreview #bookaddict #read #readmorebooks #readmore #reading #readingtime📖 #readingtime #readinglist #readingaddict #readingtime #readingcommunity #readingrecommendations #readingrecs #readingreview
Undone is the first book in Cora Shields Suspense Thriller series by Blake Pierce.
After being fired from her job at the FBI , military veteran Cora goes to Colorado to attend her friend/comrade's funeral where she approached by her sister to look into the disappearance of her daughter, Caitlin Johnson. This has Cora finding herself amidst human traffickers and running against time to save the unfortunate women.
The book had its fair share of twists and turns for such a low page count and it made the book even more high tension. I liked how Cora handled the case and investigated the disappearances. There were quite a few action sequences too showcasing just how badass Cora was but my main source of disappointment stems from that itself too. It seemed improbable that a single person, be it a man or a woman would be capable of handling so many trained traffickers single handedly and come back unscathed.
The introduction to secondary characters was an interesting one and I liked this well enough that I'll continue the series soon.
It’s an ok book. I suspected it would be like most other books written by a female author about a badass female FBI agent battling her demons and keeps fighting because it’s now personal. It turned out to be mostly right. Lots of emotions, plenty of gross men who hurt women and end up getting killed or jailed, a big showdown with a very bad, fat a wheezy boss man who nevertheless gets the better of the hero twice before is righteously killed, victimized girls, flashbacks to past trauma, etc. Stereotypical to the point where you wonder how much of it was written by Chat GPT. On the plus side, mercifully short and packed with action, a lot of it ludicrous but entertaining. Reasonably well written, so at least the author heavily edited the AI text. No time wasted on explaining how the action was planned and prepared, she just jumps from gunfight to gunfight. At least the reader/listener doesn’t have to groan on nonsensical preparation descriptions or gun details or boat description etc. All in all not the worst thing to listen to while driving.
Cora Shields, former Navy SEAL and after just a couple of pages former FBI Agent, looks like a badass but inside she's addicted to painkillers and drinks too much. When she gets a call that a former colleague and one of the few women in the SEALs has committed suicide, Cora travels from West Virginia to Colorado to pay her respects.
But her friend Addie's sister comes to her with a problem. Addie's daughter Caitlin has disappeared, and the local cops are calling her a runaway. Addie's sister Jamie asks Cora to give her just one day to look into the disappearance.
Since Cora didn't have any other life plans, she gives Jamie that day which leads to a corrupt local police force and a trafficking ring. Caught up in the hunt for Caitlin, Cora calls on an old friend and former boyfriend for help as she is determined to find Caitlin.
Cora is James Bond on steroids - a crack shot and an uber SEAL, but without that pesky government oversite. If you are looking for realistic action, you'll have to look elsewhere. If you want fast-paced, bloody adventure you are in the right place.
Cora is an ex Navy SEAL and a former FBI agent who just lost her job. She's struggling with demons from her past when she receives an email about a former friend who was taken too soon. She attends the funeral only to find out there is some shady things happening in this small town in Colorado. She reaches out to an old flame to ask for his help in finding and rescuing girls who have gone missing from this small town.
I wish I could give this 4 stars, but ultimately it gets 3.5 There wasn't enough character development in my opinion, I know this is a series, but based on this first book I won't be reading the rest. The characters lacked depth and I didn't find myself connecting to them. The beginning seemed slow and then the last half felt very rushed. This is not a book I would recommend or reach for again.
Interesting. I enjoyed the character and her point of view, overall there was a lot of good action and inner-character dialogue was cool and relatable...though the main character's situation isn't too relatable as a SEAL and fired-FBI agent. So I enjoyed it quite a bit. (+ that it was a pretty quick read)
I read it through audio - one of the only free thriller in Spotify - which was interesting because it was a VERY much British lady reading it though it was quite American ( I mean the main character was a SEAL) so that was a bit disconnecting at times, but also made it interesting. I was doing a puzzle at the time and I definitely felt like I did it a lot faster/quicker than usual.
However, reflecting later I feel like it wasn't anything special, a nice read, good at what it was for but not groundbreaking by any means. (hance the rating)
The author expects you to suspend reality a bit too much as the story line is a bit unbelievable. There are also many situations where the protagonist overcomes a bit too easily. It seemed like there would be “more” to the situation. There are many grammatical and spelling errors, along with several words being overused (winced, prickled, etc).
However, it’s a quick read and as long as you’re fine with the unbelievable story line, it’s pretty entertaining. I most likely won’t be continuing with the series, though. I read the first book of Blake Pierce’s Ella Dark series and enjoyed that more. I was hoping this Cora Shields series would be equally as enjoyable. To me, it was not.
At first I didn't know if I would be interested in this series but as the story progressed I was definitely interested. I love Blake Pierce. This author has me already hooked on several of her series, some I have already finished because I read all the books 📚📖 offered. My favorite series is the Jessie Hunt Psychological Suspense Thriller, then there's Ella Dark, Rachel Gift, Adele Sharp, Paige King and the list goes on of women protagonists. I am trying to tell you that I am a fan of Blake Pierce and I am writing this review because that's what I do. Good read. I would highly recommend.
Cora knows that she has messed up badly and when she is fired from the FBI she realises that she has no idea what to do. Going to a fellow Seal's funeral changes everything. She was just meant to find a missing girl and bring her home. But Cora doesn't know how to do things the easy way as she drops bodies along the way. She knows that she has to go back home to see if she can find out what happened to her sister. Cora is a real badass who doesn't know how to deal with her new life. Her time in the Seal's changed her and losing her job was probably the best thing that happened as I think that she will find her way back again. A good read
After ex military Cora Shields loses her FBI job, she’s faced with a funeral to honor a former military friend. At the funeral she learns her friend not only had a daughter, but that she’s missing. After hearing the police reported her and three other girls around the same age as missing she refuses to believe there isn’t more behind her friends missing daughter.
This book was action packed, and entertaining. However it was extremely predictable and not at all realistic. Some of the story seemed liked it was trying to make a huge plot twist but instead sorta fell into plot holes. I will say however, it was really good for a free audiobook. It definitely left off for the next book.
