X-Clan: The Origin by Lexi C. Foss 4 stars

I enjoyed this a lot it’s a prequel and features Jonus and Riley. I was incredibly excited to learn more about these two and their particular backstory ever since first encountering them previously in Andorra Sector. This one can easily be read as a stand-alone and was such an easy read. This is Omegaverse set in a dystopian future where a virus has devastated the earth totally changing society beyond all recognition. The virus mutates humans into mindless Zombies and here Riley an Omega wolf is tirelessly devoted to finding a cure to the scourge.

Riley hides her Omega designation from others believing that any alpha mate will only try and coral and control her taking away her life work and ultimately her freedom. Riley uses suppressors to hold off her heat and to give off the scent of a beta but they’re no longer working and she needs more than ever to hold off the inevitable heat and it’s all the fault of her current guard Jonus an Alpha X-Clan wolf who just smells so good to both Riley and her inner wolf.

Jonus wants Riley though she’s a beta he can’t help but crave her with an intense passion even if the little wolf herself challenges him at every turn. Riley is hostile and prickly and downright rude all in an attempt to push the delicious Alpha away. When the compound is breached both Riley and Jonus find themselves thrown together miles from civilisation and even worse Riley goes into heat totally blowing her beta cover. Now Jonus knows what she is and he has every intention of knotting and claiming the small feisty omega that he now knows is his potential mate.

I liked how strong and relatable Jonus was he wasn’t a hot-head and he was totally prepared to show Riley through his own actions how a real Alpha behaves one who cherishes and adores his mate. He is dominant sexy and totally yummy and the connection between these two was electric and so hot. Riley gets to throw all of her preconceptions out of the window as she learns through Jonus’s behaviour that the Alpha wolf she’s kept at arm's length for a year is totally the mate for her.

I loved the connection these two shared and though this wasn’t a long read I was still totally invested. This is small novel length rather than novella and there was definitely enough going on here to keep my attention. I definitely recommend this and I loved experiencing Riley and Jonus’s journey to their HEA. This was as usual well written and a fabulous addition to the series as a whole. I voluntary reviewed a copy of X-Clan The Origin.

X-Clan: The Origin - Lexi Foss - 4.5 stars!

I have wanted Riley and Jonas' story for what feels like forever and I'm so glad that Foss decided to finally publish their beginning. Riley is studying the infected that have taken over hoping to find a cure and Jonas is her bodyguard. Riley suppresses her Omega dynamic because she doesn't have a good lens concerning Alphas. She does however recognize she and her wolf are extremely attracted to Jonas and she hates that she feels that way. Or does she secretly love it?

Jonas thinks Riley is a Beta but is deeply attracted to her despite the fact that she is rude to him all the time. Being a solitary creature because of his past, he never expects to want Riley as much as he does and when he discovers her secret he is determined to prove to her that not all Alphas are bad.

On the run since their compound was overrun, the two of them discover that outward appearances doesn't always make a person and the two of then have a lot to learn about each other.

Riley was sassy and a little uppity but she was also fierce and intelligent. Jonas was ALL alpha but he was also kind and loyal. I loved his endearing nature that also had a dirty edge. I loved Riley's independent nature but that she submitted in the best way to Jonas.

“You’re perfect, Riley,” he told me. “So perfect and so very much mine.”

This had Foss' signature steam with a decent plot to go along with it despite how short it was. I wish we had had more time with Riley and Jonas because I adored them. I can't wait for Kieran's story. I always love a good Omegaverse and Foss always delivers.

I just finished Enchanting the Dryad Prince, which is Alisha Klapheke's stand alone story in this anthology.

I was so curious how she was going to write a male love interest who either shifts into a tree or has tree-like physical attributes while still making him schmexy...and she definitely delivered!

Both Viridi and Isa have things about them that surprise themselves, but don't come out of left field. But, when they meet, they both feel their bond and I absolutely loved how familiar they were with each other while getting to know one another.

I don't want to give any sort of spoilers, so I'll just note that my favorite line has to do with embracing the monster within🖤

The other authors in this anthology have some amazing books out so I'm excited to read more stories from it down the road!

A getting-to-know-you collection 😌 of short stories
from multiple fantasy and paranormal authors
Most are complete reads for each couple
Some are introductions to a current series
Others are a bit like a prologue to a new and coming soon series.
A great way to find yourself a new author or a new series
You can't go wrong really
With so many stories to read I will update my review as I finish each one

X-Clan: The Origin by Lexi C Foss
"Which meant I was absolutely going with option one - running "
If you are a fan of the x-clan series don't pass this one up!
If you have never had the pleasure of reading one of Foss' dystopian Alpha/Omega stories this is definitely the one to start with -
Gently ease yourself into the chaos - lol

This is Doc Riley and Jonas' story -
It's just the beginning but holy hotness!
I didn't think I could enjoy the dynamics between these two more.
I always wondered how Riley got so lucky with Jonas and why he never vied for top alpha.
Now I know and I am ten kinds of curious

This is a fantastic anthology with novellas written by soma fantastic authors.
My review is for Of Werewolves and Witches by Jessica Butler and Miranda Honfleur
This was a fun collaboration of two fantastic authors with a novella that ties into two another series, The Tru-Rah Chronicles and of blood and rose, but this can be read as a standalone.
We meet Feron and Idalon. Their story is an exciting story that draws you in with its incredible world building and action packed plot. They are two intriguing people from two totally different worlds that come together and fight to survive. This is a magical story set in the world of faerie and it’s one hell of an adventure.

This for Lucy Tempest's To Wed a Shadow God:

This story is completely separate instead of an addition to her Folkshore series. As much as I love Folkshore (it is what got me hooked to her writing in the first place) I love seeing what other worlds she can come up with. It is still a myth retelling but of a lesser written one, Eros and Psyche. She does a great job of setting up the background without giving all the information. We are allowed to learn about the true nature of the curse without having our hands held through it. The setting is richly described but doesn't take away from the actual plot and action of the characters. This is her first time writing more adult themes in her stories but I wouldn't have been able to tell that on my first read through. The scenes weren't awkward and the plot wasn't lost which I greatly appreciate. The only issue I had with the characters is with how fast their relationship progressed. I am used to her character relationships taking longer to develop so this one seemed quick. However, I think that is more due to myth itself. Overall this was a pleasant read and I look forward to more of her work.

This is a review of the novel Of Werewolves and Whatever, a collab between Miranda Honfleur and Jessica Butler. Big thanks to the authors for the ARC!

Reading this book feels like some friends decided to have a D&D one-shot adventure, but two players wanted characters from different stories they’d read, and the third guy couldn’t come last minute, so the DM created a nosy NPC to teleport the two characters together, keep the adventures moving, and look out in case any of the encounters got too close to deadly.

And so worlds collide, as Inalto (of the world in Chronicles of Tue-Rah) and Feron (of Blade and Rose) chase after their young wayward relatives and find themselves in Faerie, at the whim of a colorful person named Puck. And so the unlikely duo sets off on their rescue mission, facing beasts, poisons, and all manner of things that are part of the decaying magical land or faery caprice.

One thing that most interested me was how Inalto and Feron learn about one another and their different worlds. I’ve only read B&R, so Inalto’s world was completely new to me, from the customs and rituals to the different human-like species. Given the inorganic beginning (I and F are literally step through portals to another world), it took me a while to be invested in the setting of Faery itself. Neither Feron nor Inalto want to be where they are, so I’m right there with them, not caring about the otherwise pretty cool place that they’re in.

The first 75% of this story is a light, romance cross-over fanfic, until all of a sudden Stuff Happens Super Fast, and then the book ends. To continue the D&D analogy, it’s like the DM looked at the clock after four hours, realized there was only thirty minutes left, and hurried to finish the actual plot and set some leads for the next session, since the players decided they wanted more than a one-shot.

Would I read the sequel? Maybe if it builds on that last 25%. However, I’m more inclined to check out the authors’ other books, now that I’ve had a taste of their worlds. And really, that’s what I think anthologies like this are meant to do.

**Again, thanks to the authors for the ARC**

This review is for the story of Alisha Klapheke which is a part of this anthology. Isa and Nico are two indentured servants traveling on the boat of the Brune’s and their nasty maid Ursane who very often manhandled the both of them. Isa had taken Nico under her wing and worried dearly for him as he was small and undernourished and could not take more of their rough handling. However she could not see a way to save their lives and escape, little thinking how soon their lives were to change. Viridi was a dryad prince who was known as the Thorned One and destined supposedly to protect his people on their isolated magical island, however he had not yet come into his full power. Isa and Nico get thrown off the boat in a storm and are swept onto the sand of the dryad island and as soon as Isa sets eyes on Viridi she feels she knows him completely. From starving servants they are suddenly treated like royalty on this legendary island of magic but the jeweltrees had other plans for Viridi. He feared that he would turn into a monster who would destroy all those around him once the jeweltrees took over his mind, but in this fated mates’ tale Isa’s strength and fate in Viridi will save the day. I am a sucker for fated mates’ stories and this is one of the most I have enjoyed reading by far. I also love that Ms. Klapheke gives us glimpses of characters from previous books in her tales, in this case we once again meet up with Prince Werian of the Agate court and his human witch wife Rhianne from the Kingdom of Lore whose kindness and love for adventure save the day!

Review for X-Clan: The Origin by Lexi C. Foes

4.5 stars! We’ve seen a fair amount of Jonas and Riley throughout the X-Clan series. They’ve always been an interesting and intriguing couple with a seemingly great dynamic. What we get with this prequel novella may not be their entire story, but in my opinion, it gets at some of the best parts of the story - specifically when they are forced to acknowledge what’s between them and do something about it. Riley is brilliant and independent, and she doesn’t want to be held back simply because of her Omega status. Jonas is protective and supportive, and Riley drives him crazy in all the best ways. What’s even more interesting is the way that Jonas reacts to Riley’s continued rebuffs of his help. In some regards, it’s not what I expected, and yet, it actually fits his personality perfectly when you step back and look at his overall perspective.

For what this is, I think it’s a great story, giving us some additional insight into the X-Clan world. We get a taste of things in the origins and earlier days of the pandemic, but more importantly, we get the origin of Jonas and Riley, and this gives us a great feel for their passion and dynamic. It also gives us the reasoning behind Jonas’ dislike for (aka jealousy of) Kieran, which was a curious point of contention in the series. As is typical of Lexi’s books, the spice is excellent, but it’s not the heart of her stories. That lies in the connections between the characters, and the unique dynamic that each couple has. In that regard, this book excels.

Review for Of Werewolves and Witches (arc provided)

3.5 stars rounded up.

Characters from two different worlds, a witch and a freshly minted werewolf, are drawn together into the mysterious world of faerie to try and rescue young children in their lives. They are forced to work together, despite not meeting on the best terms.

Think Alice in Wonderland meets Midsummer Night's Dream for this one. It was a pretty fun indie romp with lots of twists and turns, and non-stop action.

Ferron, the dude, was as thick as two short planks - total himbo vibes. I honestly thought Idalno could have done a lot better. I also felt, despite the enemies to lovers slow burn, that things go from "I guess you're not so bad after all and kinda hot" to "I'm deeply in love with you and want to be with you forever" way too abruptly for my liking. Crushing on each other was believable - but then it kind of jumped straight to deep abiding love in a way that didn't feel authentic to me. Perhaps Ferron needed a bit more backstory, as I just didn't warm to him and couldn't see all the praise Idalno heaped on him as actually being deserved based on what we see in the story.

I was definitely entertained, it's the type of story where you never know what's coming next, so if you just want something fun and easy and don't mind a bit of enemies turned instalove, you'll have fun with it.

Though this is an anthology, this review is only for Of Werewolves and Witches by Miranda Honfleur and Jessica Butler. This was a fun author pairing. I love Miranda’s books and was thrilled when Brennan showed up. Just a little sad he didn’t stay for more of the book. I’ve only read Jessica Butler’s stories in her emails but was vaguely aware of the Tue-Rah chronicles. Naatos was the character from her series.
Idalno was a much more interesting character, imo, than Feron, a werewolf shifter. Not that there was anything wrong with him, I just liked her character, an acolyte of Venom and Poison, better. Both of these characters were whisked away from their lands by Puck and brought to Faerie where they had to work together to save two little girls and get them back home. I loved the nods to Alice in Wonderland, a Midsummers Night’s Dream and Labyrinth. Over the course of their travels, they fall in love and overcome the obstacles placed before them.
Once I started this book, I only reluctantly put it down. It was fast paced but still had enough details about the world they were in to make it interesting. There is a sex scene in this fated mates story, but it wasn’t super explicit. I would like to thank the authors for the Arc in exchange for my unbiased review.

A good mix of novels, different spice ranges

I thought this was a good mix of novels to introduce people to authors. The stories take place in different kingdoms and different spans, but all have a slightly darker tone to them

2 comments I have:

1. Spicy: I will state that when I was looking up the novel I didn’t see any spicy warnings, but the first couple books in the series are definitely a high spice rating. One of the novels even comes with a warning, which I greatly appreciate it and I ended up skipping that one. Chenovo‘s towards the end or lower on the spice reading but then it picks back up.

2. StandAlone : It says that they are standalone novels but that’s kinda a loose definition. One book in particular even though it technically had a happy ending, the main global conflict was not resolved. Several of them were prequels, which will technically be a standalone, I feel like also it is it. That might just be me though.

Overall if you’re looking to get introduced to some new authors, you don’t mind space, and love to read a little bit a fantasy, you will probably enjoy this anthology.

Loved it!

Review for: “X-Clan: The Origin”

My obsession with the X Clan series is borderline unhealthy. I absolutely love the series so when I saw that there was going to be a story from that world included in the Kingdoms of Night Anthology I knew I had to read it. This story did not disappoint. We get to see the beginning of Jonas and Riley’s relationship. We also get some early timeline information as to the virus that has plagued the citizens of this world. The Origin is told in dual POV, has tons of drama and gripped me from start to finish. I loved it and I’m not just saying that because Jonas purrs in this book! Highly recommend it if you're a fan of the X-Clan series. It is also a good way to sample this author’s writing style since it is a short read.

Arc of werewolves and witches
This story was a mix of portal fantasy, paranormal romance, midsummer nights dream and well as the Labyrinth retelling. The two main characters are struggling to fit in in their current circumstances. They each long for more or believe they aren’t good enough. The are pulled into the Fae realm while searching for a missing child. The subsequent adventure is both new and yet familiar. The trials are interesting and the way the work together is a great bonding experience and for both of them to find their worth. I will say there was a lot of self doubt and miscommunication. Then when they are separated all off a sudden all their fears are washed away. This seemed a bit abrupt but I understand what the authors were trying to convey. The last few chapters made things a bit frustrating but hopefully the two will find a way to make it work without having fae come between them. I loved the magic system and I am looking forward to what they will learn and to see what they are capable of.

There are so many great stories in this anthology "Kingdoms and Night". So far, I've read "Of Werewolves and Witches" by Miranda Honfleur and Jessica M. Butler and it's a wonderful enemy to lover book. You have Feron, a snarky werewolf without a pack who want to be left alone as he searches for his niece, Annette, in a very strange land. His unwanted companion Idolna is a Venom and Poison master who is also looking for her lost little cousin, Lalko. Unfofrtunately both being are emotionally wounded and communication is rough and misunderstood. These fated mates will finally overcome some differences but not without a lot of problems. The world building included a few nods to some familiar fairy tales, I counted at least 4. Haha I enjoyed these characters so much I want to start the next book now. I can only imagine how good the rest of the stories are in "Kingdoms and Night" I'll be diving back in after I write this review. Btw...did you see all the awesome authors included in this anthology.

Tasha Black's Bound to the Fae Assasin

One of the stories you will enjoy from the anthology.
Farrow & "Thorn"

Magic was no longer allowed on Farrow's side of the was separating them from the Fae side. She does have some magic just enough to put a little in her baking and share it with her customers who buy from the family bakery. It just gives a little cheer to their lives. As long as no one finds out or it could be deadly for her and someone else.

When she meets Thorn, he's not dressed as a prince but as a poor person. She wants to help him but their time together and not being familiar with all of the traditions and rules create unexpected complications. Not to mention the attraction between them.

With the serious differences in their people is there a chance for them to be together? How will it turn out for them and their people? A few secrets could make it even more complicated.

Bound to the Fae Assassin by Tasha Black
Great characters, perfectly matched, love the ending. Arrogance meets Humble, the haves and have-nots, are just a few of the many comparatives I feel fit Blackthorn and Farrow. Their story in very informative and interesting as they surprisingly learn from one another and accept how well they work together. She adds heart to all his muscle as they bridge the gap of separation with some risky adventures, tough decisions, find love along the way and open up to their magic. Delightful story. I have only read one but worth it!

This whole book is my next read but I loved Enchanting The Dryad Prince and had to leave a review. There are some great authors in this group. Some I have read from before and some new ones. But the Dryad Prince is a great story of Viridi wrestling with the beast inside him. Most of his people think he is there to save them but he can hear the trees and knows they have different ideas. I won't give anything else away but the FMC is great too. I hope you love these characters as much as me! I will update my review as I finish the other stories! 😘

This is re: Of Werewolves and Witches, by Miranda Honfleur and Jessica Butler.
I haven't read anything by Jessica Butler yet but I thoroughly enjoyed The Dark Elves of Nightbloom by Ms Honfleur. (That's a hint if you've ever seen one. This third book, eh...) Here, I loved the worldbuilding and the characters tossed together in the most unexpected of circumstances. I have to say, I enjoy books that aren't just about romance and this one isn't. I didn't quite feel the ending, however. The rhythm broke and became too fast. I would definitely read on if possible. And I will read both authors' other books. I think I was hooked up from the beginning - I love a mighty sulk.

My review is only of 1 of these stories, and that's X-Clan The Origin by Lexi C Foss. I absolutely LOVE this entire series & the many different types of characters that we get throughout each book. These can be wreak as stand alone, but you definitely can see some of the previous characters again. I think the way she builds her worlds are magical & the characters are absolutely amazing! She really puts you in the story with the way she brings the characters to life!! Definitely not a book you'll want to start unless you have some time to finish!! I've always loved paranormal RH & especially Omegaverse characters. Lexi brings you sexy characters & spicy fun.

The X Clan novels have been some of my favorite from Lexi Foss with their steamy scenes, fast pacing, and as always snarky. In this novella, I loved seeing the origin story of two of my favorite characters from the main series. Plus, we got more information on how the virus began and spread, which was so interesting!!

Riley and Jonas have an amazing connection and I love seeing their relationship build. I really connected with Riley about wanting to pave your own way and not be valued just for your gender and not who you are. It was a fun, quick read, but also full of adorable and hot moments. I loved it!

I only read Miranda Honfleur's and Jessica Butler's contribution "Of Werewolves and Witches". I have not read either of the series that the main characters come from, but this novella has me wanting to do just that. I have to say that Puck was right; Feron and Idalno are an unlikely but surprisingly complementary couple. I never thought of Puck as a matchmaker - maybe "A Midsummer Night's Dream" was his first (and over ambitious) attempt?

I received an ARC of this novella from the authors and I am voluntarily leaving a review.

I read this for Emma Hamm's story Fierce Hearts.
Although I was surprised we were following completely different characters than Abraxas and Lore, I have to say it was quite interesting reading yet another dragon and another elf. I saw a new perspective of both species, as well an extension of the worldbuilding.
I'm truly amazed with this series and quite enjoyed the little details I got to find out.
The ending was very interesting as well, and it seems we will be seeing more of Tanis and Rowan on Abraxas' story. I'm truly excited for it!

This review is specific to Enchanting the Dryad Prince by Alisha Klapheke.

This is such a great series of stand alone stories. They are all fantastic in their own right, but I highly recommend reading them all in order. The inside jokes and character cameos add so much and are fabulously entertaining.

I love Isa and Viridi. Their fated connection is very sweet. I love it when an author can take a relationship that is basically an insta love situation and make it feel natural and unforced. Werian and Rhianne from Enchanting the Fae Prince are the perfect comedic addition to the story.

I read Bound to the Fae Assassin by Tasha Black, one of the stories found in the anthology. Tasha Black is one of my go-to authors but I approach with caution. I tend to do the "just one more chapter" philosophy when I read her stories. I loved this story -- appearances were deceiving and acceptance was key. Bravo once again, Tasha Black (note: I read until almost 2 AM). You got me again.
