This was a pretty hot anthology, with two stories I really liked and two that were just okay for me.

Reckless by Maya Banks is another one of those "my-brother-is-his-best-friend-but-I'd-wish-he'd-see-me-as-more-than-the-kid-sister" stories. Nikki Durant has always loved Sheriff J.T. Summers, even though he's 12 years older than her and is best friends with her older brother Lucas. Lucas is in the military, and while he's deployed he asks J.T. to keep an eye on Nikki while she's back in her hometown after her recent college graduation. The people of her small hometown haven't always treated Nikki and her brother well, due to her mother's rather loose reputation, but J.T. has always been there for her with a shoulder to lean on. With her whole young life stretching before her, J.T. can't figure out why she'd want to hang around a town that has no real opportunities for her. And why is Nikki showing up everywhere J.T. goes and openly flirting with him? Is she seriously interested in him or just looking for a fling? Even though he finds her sex kitten act wildly desirable, J.T. knows that Lucas would kill him if he took advantage of Nikki. So how does he keep his promise to watch over Nikki while maintaining his distance?

This was a verrry hot story, with two rather likable characters. Nikki was very brazen, practically throwing herself at J.T. every opportunity she got. It was very funny how J.T. tried to hide from her as he grew more and more tempted by Nikki. Until he finally couldn't take it anymore, and gave in and gave Nikki what she wanted. And then some. But then he made some incorrect assumptions, ended up hurting Nikki, and then had to backpeddle to make things right. I loved seeing Nikki's vulnerable side, and I loved J.T.'s little speech as he was trying to make up with her--very sweet.

This story is actually a stand alone follow up to the book Brazen, whose characters play a supporting role. I actually liked this one better, probably because I loved J.T., and I found Nikki more likable than the heroine of that book, Jasmine. 4 1/2 stars.

The other story that I liked a lot was Heat of the Moment by Elle Kennedy. This was a "friends-to-lovers" story involving a Navy SEAL and a cafe owner, and you can find my full review here: http://www.goodreads.com/book/show/61...

Color My Heart by Red Garnier was a bit of a disappointment for me because I didn't care for the heroine too much. The book starts out with artist Hannah, the heroine, crying in the hallway of her apartment building, and Billy, the hero and neighbor, asks if he can help her. No sooner does he help her into her apartment then she literally jumps him, wraps herself around him and has her wicked way with him. After that they carry on an affair that Hannah keeps reminding sweet Billy is only about sex, no matter that Billy would like it to be more, and if she was truthful to herself, so would Hannah. But caring for someone like that is dangerous to her heart, and she can't let that happen to her again after the debacle with her last boyfriend. So Hannah keeps herself emotionally distant from Billy, and contemplates ways to sabotage her relationship before she gets too attached and is unable to walk away. Wise Billy, who has the patience of a saint, knows what Hannah is up to, but refuses to let her push him away. He even makes the sacrifice of participating in a three-way with Hannah and the apartment building stud, telling Hannah she won't get rid of him that way even if she wants to act like a slut. Or something like that. Will Hannah grow up and get her act together and take a chance on the fabulous guy right in front of her nose, or will she be a big coward and wreck the best thing that ever happened to her?

Some pretty hot sex scenes, a fabulous hero, but an annoying heroine--3 1/2 stars.

And finally, Lady Sings the Blues, an interracial love story between a former exotic dancer and now club owner, and a blind musician working at the club. Some hot sex scenes, and an insightful hero who sees the real woman behind the persona that the heroine reveals to the public is mostly what this book is about. It had an interesting premise (can't think of many blind romance heroes) and characters who generated some real heat. 3 1/2 stars.

So, as anthologies go, not bad. There's a little bit of 'something for everyone' here. Fans of Maya Banks will probably get a kick out of "Reckless", if only to catch up with the characters from "Brazen". That story and "Heat of the Moment" made this a worthwhile read for me. 4 stars.

Warning: This book contains explicit language and sex, including oral and anal, and two of the stories contain m/f/m menage. Not for the faint of heart.

4 stars – Contemporary Romance/Erotica/Ménage Anthology

Red-Hot Summer is hot indeed and a satisfying anthology featuring four very spicy stories, all of which I really liked.

4 ½ stars – Contemporary Romance/Erotica – Reckless by Maya Banks is about small town sheriff J.T. trying to fight his lust and feelings for his best friend’s off-limits ‘kid’ sister Nikki, who’s darn determined to make him hers, despite their 12-year age difference. She’s wanted and loved him ever since she was a teen, and now that she’s back in town and their both adults, she’s not letting him get away, even if she has to get herself arrested to succeed with seduction! This is a stand-alone sequel to the story Brazen, and the characters from it, Jasmine, Seth, and Zane, play small roles here. It’s a sexy, sweet story that fans of Maya Banks should enjoy. 4 ½ stars

4 stars – Contemporary Romance/Erotica/Ménage – Color My Heart by Red Garnier is a very steamy story about brokenhearted artist Hannah who literally throws herself at a complete stranger, who happens to be her neighbor Billy. They engage in a sex only relationship for a bit, but eventually he wants more from her and she’s not willing to risk her heart again. To show Billy that she’s only interested in sex, she brings hot neighbor Lance into the mix and they engage in a hot, angry three-way, but Billy is determined to prove that she’s all his. This story is smokin’ hot, especially a scene involving very creative use of a paintbrush…yowza! 4 stars

4 ½ stars – Contemporary Romance/Erotica/Ménage– Heat of the Moment by Elle Kennedy was my favorite story of the whole lot. It’s about perky bakery/café owner Shelby who harbors a serious year-long crush, which she mistakenly thinks is one-sided, on Navy SEAL John Garrett. He’s been coming to her café and buying fancy overpriced mochas for a year, just to spend time with Shelby, but she thinks he only sees her as a friend. He’s got a wild sexual past, so Shelby sets out to seduce him and his best friend Carson into a ménage to prove she’s not just an innocent, freckle-faced, vanilla-sex gal. This story is funny, incredibly sweet, and verrry hot. I’ll definitely read the sequel Heat of Passion, which is Carson’s story, to find out what happens next with Shelby, Garrett, and Carson. 4 ½ stars

4 stars – Contemporary Romance/Erotica – Lady Sings the Blues by Mallery Malone was perhaps the most pleasant surprise for me out of all four stories because I honestly didn’t expect much, but found it to be extremely sultry and a really sweet interracial romance about former exotic dancer turned club owner Alina “Miss Scarlet” and blind blues musician Joshua Hanover. They engage in some seriously hot sex, but soon the relationship evolves into something much deeper, and they both have to confront their insecurities and preconceived notions to hold onto the beauty they’ve found in each other. It’s a very sexy, romantic story about two people learning to open up and trust. 4 stars

Overall, Red-Hot Summer is a satisfying, erotic anthology with four diverse stories, all of which I enjoyed. 4 stars!

Reckless by Maya Banks

Nikki Durant has just graduated from college and is returning home to a town that's always mistreated her. She's back and on a mission to seduce her older brother Lucas's friend and the town's Sheriff J.T. Summers. This short story had just the right amount of everything you can hope for from an abbreviated tale. Maya Banks knows how to write a steamy story. I'm not familiar with Bank's book Brazen but the characters (another ménage)from that book are featured in this short as well.

Heat of the Moment by Elle Kennedy

Bakery/cafe owner Shelby Harper has been flirting with Navy SEAL John Garrett for a year and clearly he's not interested. During a power outage Shelby has opened her business for some locals to watch the game. Then Shelby overhears Garret and his friend Carson discussing how Garrett is very interested but she's not and how he should stop pining since she's probably vanilla in bed. So Shelby boldly propositions both men. Very steamy and almost funnily sweet start.

Color My Heart by Red Garnier

Starts out super HOT but also hard to believe. The story opens with the heroine, Hannah, crying outside of her apartment door. The hero, Billy, tries to help her and then they are literally going at it. I gotta be honest. As unrealistic as it was I couldn't stop thinking about ALL DAY. I had to get home and finish this story. So, Billy and Hannah has a daily secret hook up for over a month until one day Billy tells Hannah that this is more than sex and he wants more. Hannah refuses and then tries to push him away by inviting another man to her bed in front of Billy. Billy is persistent and encourages the ménage, knowing Hannah will realize that she's wanted Billy all along. So Billy is pretty great. Hannah is not so much. The story starts super hot but fizzles.

Lady Sings the Blues by Mallery Malone

Is an interracial story about a former exotic dancer/club owner, Alina (nicknamed The Scarlet Lady), and Joshua, a blind and very sexy musician who plays at her club. The whole idea of this story was very intriguing and the story is steamy but not out of this world.

Four short stories revolving around love and romance in the summertime.

Series:
"Reckless" (Brazen, 2)

The Stories
Maya Banks' "Reckless" is a cute story about a young woman who will not let her brother's best friend off the hook. Nikki has loved J.T. since she was 12 and now that she's graduated from college there's no reason they can't take it to a more heated level.

Red Garnier's "Color My Heart" is an execution of abstract art and emotion for a young woman who refuses to tie her heart to one man. And the best way to get one man out of her heart is to take up with another hunk. But Billy doesn't care, he wants Hannah and if it takes letting another man in her bed...he doesn't mind watching.

Elle Kennedy's "Heat of the Moment" is pretty revealing when Shelby and Garrett find out they've spent the past year misinterpreting each other's signals the night Shelby takes him and Carson to her apartment above the bakery for some decidedly non-vanilla sex.

Mallery Malone's "Lady Sings the Blues" is an exploration of the senses when the hot and sexy Miss Scarlet discovers just how very tactile the blind blues singer can be with his hands and his lips.

The Cover and Title
The cover is definitely sexy with the dark-haired beauty in the white tank top curled up in a cozy moment with the unshaven artsy type.

As for the title, oh yeah, it is a "Red-Hot Summer" for all four ladies and their men.

Maya Banks - is one of my favorite authors and that is why I actually bought the book. I loved her story. If you like Maya Banks' writing, your just as much love these chapters. Great match up in characters and I wish the story was longer. Maya often has her characters with previous history and that is something I love and she didn't disappoint with this short story.

Red Garnier - first time reading her work. The story was alright. I just didn't get really involved with the characters. The situation on how the characters got together and why they won't immediately get together was a little far fetched. I am just not a fan of the "tortured female" who can't get over herself to move forward.

Elle Kennedy - again first time I read her work and I really loved her chapters. I adored her characters and I wish the chapters were longer cause I could really get into the story. The story had hot Navy Seals and a ménage so really, where can you go wrong.

Mallery Malone - another first time author for me to read. I like that the male main character was blind but completely able. That was a bit different. The story was alright.

For me Maya Banks and the Elle Kennedy stories were my favorites and worth the price of the book. The only thing with reading these authors all grouped together is that the stories are so short and I really like to get involved in the characters. It does however give you an opportunity to read an author that you are curious about or try someone new

The short stories didn't allow as much character development as I'd would've liked. But still enjoyable.
Reckless, by Maya Banks: Simple story, but with the intense feelings one expects from Maya Banks.
Color My Heart, by Red Garnier: Red Garnier's a new author to me, but she's someone to watch out for. The story hung on sheer stubborness by the heroes, which I didn't like, but the rest was good.
Lady Sings the Blues, by Mallery Malone: I enjoyed the way the obstacles that could have stopped this couple didn't (interracial problems, his blindness) and instead, they had their own issues (mainly, her fear). Sweet and intense.
Heat of the Moment, by Elle Kennedy: i liked the stupid way people sabatoge themselves, and the way the couple gets over it, in this story. Sweet and cute!

Multi-author anthology with a loose theme of love and lust in a heat wave...

The Maya Banks story, Reckless, is a sequel to Brazen. Having read Brazen makes some of the relationships between the characters clearer - but it's not a deal breaker.

Characters are drawn with various levels of believability. Plots are relationship driven. Some of the stories contain menage sex... A read once.

This was a fun book, filled with some very hot stories. At the heart of each story is a woman with issues. The first one a woman, who has loved a man for years, but he won't give her the time of day. The next 2, about women who have had men cheat on them. The last about a woman who is used to men only looking as far as her appearance and not getting to know the heart of her. All in all they were a good read.

I love picking up these anthologies. I look at it as a good way to check out authors I'm not already familiar with. I picked this up because I have read and liked previous books by Maya Banks. Fans of BRAZEN will like her short story in this book. It's a sequel to Brazen and focuses on sheriff JT. He has finally met his match, whether he likes it or not!The other 3 short stories are good as well, if they feel too short. This book is definitely worth picking up!

An anthology of steamy stories:

Reckless was good, but the whole "Virgin seductress" thing is getting old.

Color My Heart was meh. Kinda didn't care much about either one of them.

Heat of the Moment was good, except for the stupidity of both Garrett and Shelby

Lady Sings the Blues was the best of the bunch, an interesting story and great sex

Much better than I expected, this anthology is worth reading for Maya Banks' and Elle Kennedy's stories. The other two entries by Red Garnier and Mallery Malone are decent, but didn't quite have the same success. All in all, a good book and appropriate for summer.
