I’m lost in the jungle, and something is stalking me.
Discovering a Mayan ruin in the Guatemalan jungle should have catapulted my archeology career, but I’m lost hours from camp. Worse, something is stalking me. It’s not a jaguar. It’s bigger than anything I’ve ever seen before and wicked fast. I can’t outrun it. I don’t have any weapons.
When it catches me…
I can’t help but think I’ve fallen back through time to the Jurassic Period, because the creature looks like a T-rex and raptor had a very vicious baby. It’s hungry, too. Very hungry. Though it doesn’t hurt me. Yet.
Then a naked man comes to my rescue. Not sus at all.
Kroktl says his squad is on a top-secret mission to Earth, and his outrageous physique certainly fits the part of a lab-created super-soldier alien. Who coincidentally smells exactly like the dino-predator that chased me.
He claims that I can help him through the heat. By the burning way he looks at me, he doesn’t mean air temperature. In fact, I suspect that I’m next on the menu. After he plays with his food. He’s even calling his squad to come see what he caught.
I don’t think I’m getting out of the jungle alive.
The following ratings are out of 5: Romance: 🩵🖤💜💚 Heat/Steam: 🔥🔥🔥🔥 Story/Plot: 📕📗📘📙 World building: 🌏🌍🌎🌏 Character development: ☺️😎😚🥰
The heroine:Natalie - she was a grad student in archeology. Trying to make her mark. She researched and found the journal of an earlier archeologist who had discovered a hidden city in the Guatemalan jungle though he gave up before excavating the site. She studied his path in and out of the jungle and figured she could find the city. Her professor was financing the trip and would probably ultimately claim the find as his work, but she hoped to get credit in any article he published.
The Hero:Kroktl - he was a Dynos (alien dinosaur shifter), who came to Earth with a squad, who were ultimately betrayed by their squad leader and stranded on the planet. To make matters worse, he was in heat and there were no compatible females to be found. He had come across several human women, but he felt nothing for them. He would rather eat them in his dynos form than anything else. However, he was attracted to Natalie the minute he picked up her scent.
The Story: When Natalie found the lost city, her professor took off with the only other grad student and went back to the nearest town, leaving her with two guides to do all the work. She traipsed around the jungle all day finding different structures, but when it started to get dark she found that her guides had left her alone. On her way back to camp, in the dark, she found something was stalking her, and she came across a monster that wasn’t native to Guatemala.
“So you’re a time-traveling alien super-soldier who can shift into a dinosaur.” “Pretty much.”
This was a short book, only 142 pages, so it was instalove. The two main characters got together and hooked up in record time despite Natalie finding out he was an alien and had a beast inside him. I thought it had an interesting premise with Kroktyl and his team being betrayed and left stranded. So, they not only had to find a way off the planet, but they were also in cartel territory.
The book wasn’t only steamy scenes, and I liked the parts about Kroktyl’s squad when he explained what he was to Natalie. I was surprised when I found out that this book isn’t a standalone and it continues to the next book. I guess I would rather have one book that was about 450-500 pages than three books that are only about 150. Luckily, they are on Kindle Unlimited so I can just move on to the next book.
I was pleasantly surprised at the fact that there was steam and a decent storyline. The book ended in a cliffhanger, but also had sort of an ending, so you don’t feel like you absolutely have to move on to the next book if you don’t feel like it.
“Where do you think your dinosaurs came from in the first place?” “But… They all died out. They’re extinct. Did they do some kind of Jurassic Park extraction?” His mouth quirked. “Did they die? Or did they merely go home?”
And that's how they're going to explain everything y'all.
It's been a while since I've read a JSB book. I was happy she has a new reverse harem series out. After reading this, not so much interested anymore.
The book suffers from a lot of repetition. I am a grad student doing all the work for my skeevy professor. I am a dyno hybrid who is stuck on this planet because we got betrayed, the other 3 good guys have this specific skills. I only have these skills. You are my mate. Again and again.
Then we have the stupid contradictions on Natalie's part. You are an educated woman, in archeology, but you couldn't understand what the term mating means? You are the one who found the hidden site, but apparently you don't know how to coordinate a map/searching and marking an unknown area to get you back to camp? I mean, ata heri you could have said she was learning business education and just decided to tag along for the dig site. You cannot be earning a degree, set yourself up as basically the best in what you are learning/in class/are passionate about but then act like you had a memory wipe/TSTL when you meet the dyno with dick-too-big-for-my-human-vagina.
Then, Kroktl could scan her, but at times that aspect basically vanishes as he starts racking his brain as to what is going on in her body.
Oh, the part that boiled my blood. At one point, we are told Natalie doesn't have plans for babies, she doesn't want them. Kroktl tells her point blank I have super alien sperm, the shot you got before coming here won't help. She continues to introspect on this, but doesn't mouth out her concerns, then as per kawaida, he cums bucket loads of cum that will get him his babies. Then later on she starts musing over how she can't live in the jungle basically in a ramshackle hut, but Kroktl won't fit in in modern American society and how her career always came first and that is gone but she had plans for a family and future. Again, contradictions.
Then Kroktl also suffers from American accent/mannerisms syndrome. He is from an alien world, has travelled galaxies, basically has had minimal contact with people, but he speaks like a modern day American? And he has been staying in the jungle.
Then, the main reason why I probably won't get book 2 when it comes out, this is a reverse harem but only dyno 1 so far has been introduced. She is meant to have 4 mates. So it would be safe to assume it'll be 4 books, with a lot of repetition then a final, confront BGR book.
In short, a lot of repetition. The book should have been shorter. The smut wasn't that good.
It was interesting, but not one I think I'll continue. Space dino shifters. The assistant explorer was a bit cliche. Also, a bit awkward when you share the same name as the fmc, or maybe that's just me. It went from a scene from jurrassic park to a jungle safety with a what feels like a futuristic new lover. Looks like another slow build harem with this book focused on Kroktl.

I just couldn’t invest in the MMC. Like bro, I get that you shift into a dinosaur, but can we learn literally anything about who you are besides “I am scary and strong because I’m a dinosaur”? Like your interests? Just wasn’t doing it for me.
This was weirder than I expected. I know, it doesn't look like it's even remotely trying to be mainstream, but right at the beginning when I was reading it.... I had a moment where I realised this wasn't a paranormal romance with dino shifter characters. Nope, right about the time it seemed he wanted to 'breed' her in his dino form, I realised I had inadvertently started reading a dinosaur erotica. So I kept reading. But then when he was all "I can't always control my shift while mating" wHiLe InSiDe HeR I realised this was headed towards one of those sneezing type scenes, and once in The Boys was enough for me. So that will be a fun future book for whoever reads this. It's pretty repetitive, and we don't really learn much in here, but it reads like it will be a reverse harem, and it ends on a cliff hanger. It made me laugh with weirdness and cringing, but I don't know if it was supposed to.
I really didn’t make it far at all like AT ALL. Why? Because the base plot wasn’t believable. I can go with Dino shifters as long as it makes some semblance of sense and isn’t an insult.
What you need to know going in is all human males are worthless and any logic is right out the window.
You want me to believe she is on a dig by herself with multiple guides who leave her abandoned alone within the first 10 pages because ONE of them has a wife who is having baby??
Honestly don't know how to rate or review this – I loved the premise, enjoyed it to an extent, but it felt underdeveloped and too short. So not great but also not terrible.
The story follows Natalie, an archaeologists’ assistant out in the Guatemalan jungle looking for a lost city The local guides don’t know the name of the city but they warn her of the monster. When she finds herself alone in the jungle, stalked by a giant shadow with glowing red eyes, she just has to remember one thing: don’t run. Because if the monster gets her, he will eat her 😏
I FOUND DINO SMUT!! And it was glorious. The smut was smutting and there was a sprinkling of sci-fi plot which I appreciated. I loved Natalie’s witty, sarcastic narrative and very much related to her; it was a bit like my own internal voice at times and I found myself cackling thinking “yup that’s exactly what I’d think!” Kroktyl was delicious and large. So big 😂 and delightfully ignorant, but sweet. I liked his space enhancements and how it was all explained without getting too detailed, so I didn’t lose interest.
Overall, this was very much my cup of tea and I have dived straight into book 2! Rating: 🦖🦖🦖🦖🦖
Ahhh this book was so good. Adventurous, spicy and gripping. It reminded me of "Their Tygress" another book by the author and also "Jurassic Park". 𝐌𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐨𝐮𝐬 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐭 felt like a delightful mix of the two. A steamy and wild ride, including a hot alien dinosaur shifter.
I highly recommend this book if you want a quick and steamy romance read.
I am not even sure how to rate this book. It is bonkers and yet somehow less than I expected. I’ll just give you this the dinosaurs were not wiped out. They chose to leave and travel to other galaxies.
i enjoyed this little dino adventure and was pleasantly surprised with magical appendanges and shifters. I thought they'd be a dino the whole time. give me more.
This was a very unique book. I loved the authors take on dinosaurs. The FMC is a fun sassy girl who's life changes the night she gets lost on the jungle. Can't wait to read the next book to see what happens next.
This short book was surprisingly good, while I would never picked it up if it weren’t for one of my reading groups, I really enjoyed it and it was a super quick read.
I started this book not knowing what it was , it's dino smut , the start of the story is good and it has very steamy sex scenes but still very fun read
So this is complete crazypants alien smuttery. I mean, 70% smut, 30% story. It's fun and fast, and if that's what you're looking for, you're in the right place.
Fast speed, a little disgusted by the body fluids, and a book with way too short chapters. The ML is an unbeatable soldier (just too much for me : the result of forced breeding experiences, with growing hormones, with heat of a beast, with meca add on with which he can make endless ultra detailed body scan…) The univers of the ML lore seems rich, but we just get a tiny little peak through his says. I’m afraid of the big white plot thread of (picture the following sentence with the deep voice of a movie trailer, tragic and Terminator-like) : it was on purpose that the leader let them here, for them to open their eyes about their planet government that is in fact evil, unfair and must fall… by their hands ! Tadaa. The sex scenes were disappointing but it might be just because I like hard poundings and dirty talks during it 🫣 not getting inside and locked, and done. I missed the beast side that take control. And an eye roll on spontaneous orgasms without the ML touching her…
But I must agree that the heroine was interesting. Smart. And I liked her way of thinking. Point for the huge control of the MC despite being in heat for weeks, waiting for her consent each times. That’s really sweet and sexy, Bro. I am intrigued by the futur RH side, so I will read the following book 😊

I've had my eye on this one since it came out as I've always been dinosaur obsessed add in some aliens and it's a must read. I've been in my alien romance era and the Dynosauros are awesome they are shifters but with a dinosaur form but aliens who are genetically engineered as elite fighters. They are awesome and I loved getting to know Kroktl. Throw in that Natalie's a archeology student who happened to run into a dinosaur creature in the jungle.
This is a fast paced whirlwind steamy monster romance. It's an interesting twist on the alien concept, the idea of an alien race that comes from dinosaurs. I enjoyed really enjoyed the story it was a quick read I devoured it in just over a hour and have the rest of the series on my kindle ready to go. I can't wait to see how it all plays out as Natalie meets the rest of the squad. I'm on a monster romance kick and this one just hit the spot. Perfect for fans of alien romance with a twist.
This is it. This is gonna be the book that I tell people to not judge based on its questionable MMC or its tropes. To start with, the MMC is a dinosaur shifter alien whose heat cycle led him straight to our scientist FMC who wanted nothing more than to pace her way in the academic circle. Her plans ended up changing as the both of them discovered they just couldn’t help but want to be with each other.
Now, I won’t sugarcoat and say this book had real, solid plot going on but it’s more erotica than storyline-focused and that’s okay too. In any case this book is already better written and laid out compared to half the recs from booktok so I’ll take that as a win. The MMC also had more personality and overall better character than most book boyfriends. The fact that the book ends by hinting to a possible RH future also made it a huge bonus.
⚠️warnings⚠️ 1) Yes, the MMC is a cyborg-alien-dnosaur-lizard-monster. 2) Yes, it's insta-mates, though she struggles a little a first. 3) Legit new kink unlocked. Just saying. 🤷♀️ 4) On-page hotness galore! 5) Alternating 1st person POV 6) It's Book 1, so it ends on a cliffhanger.
I wasn't sure about this book, but I thought it definitely couldn't be any worse than some of those other dino smüt books I've read...
Holy cow! This is fantastic! It is absolutely such a great read; and I can't wait for the next installment! This is definitely one I'll be able to re-read over and over and over.
I got this for free on stuff you eReader day and, given the poor record of other titles I have acquired, I kept my expectation pretty low. This left me pleasantly surprised.
It was well written. The spice was top-notch and the story was as believable as you could imagine from a dino-shifting alien. It ends on a cliffhanger, so it's definitely one of those series designed to milk more money out of you since this is really only part of the story. But, this was good enough that it worked - I downloaded book 2.
So I had no idea what to expect.. the good? it's well written. As in no spelling mistakes that I saw or bad grammar. That's about the only good thing I can say. The fmc pov/writing was very repetitive, a lot of insecurities that got annoying because they were repeat ad nauseum.
The rest, not so much for me. It felt like an alien sci fi book where the fmc is on a different planet and has to survive which I think would have been better because she is in guatemala or something so there's this trafficking angle and in the end it was just too much. The author tried too much and I got bored and grossed out. Really there were a couple of things that just had me rolling my eyes and I lost interest, first of all the first alien shifter dyno guy, calls her baby, like all the time ugh, I just can't!! really?!? Second, the hygiene ascpect of this was just too gross to gloss over, I couldn't. All the books take place in the jungle, there is so much sticky fluids mentioned. I just couldn't overlook that. In the end the book was just too wierd for me and not good and that's the last time I read about dinosaurs.
The last thing that bothered me, by the time you get to the second book, you realized this isn't really a reverse harem, the main relationship is between fmc and mmc and the rest of the guys are just allowed to watch and participate eventually and the author made it feel like more of a open relationship. If it says reverse harem, that's what I want, I want build up with time for all the charactes relationship to develop but since this is so rushed, none of that happens. Also the insta in here is all about mating/breeding, so there is no romance, none whatsoever. If you like breeding, then this is the book for you. There is no time for romance and there is definitely no love. you don't actually get to know the guys that well even the main one and it's all fighting for attention between the different plots. So if you are looking for a shifter book with a different take, a la dinosaurs and you like instalust, then this is for you. Absolutelu no substance in the relationships because its all about mating and the spice got boring too. I mean it was all the same. I made it half way through the second book, skimmed a bit to the end just to see how it ended and skimmed the 3rd just to get the jist. I didn't like the new addition to the "harem" it was not necessary since noone is even in a relationship with the fmc other than the main guy. No real ending, no hea. Felt unifinished and definietly not worth reading. probably won't check out anything else by this author if this is an example of her work.
I had a pretty bad book hangover after an emotional book and I needed something read that wasn’t as serious and this book was absolutely perfect. I loved the MC, Natalie is a kindred spirit haha. I loved the humor in this one and the steam was definitely a nice tough. As a nerd (engineer) I loved the enhanced tech of the alien Dynos. I like how Kroktyl adjusted as him and Natalie got physical, him trying to account for her needs. It was adorable and funny at the same time.
I had no idea what I was getting into when I saw this series. I purchased the book when it was on sale and I loved a lot of the other books by this author so I though why not? I am so happy I did, I went and downloaded book 2 because of the intense ending and am already devouring it already. This was perfect timing since book 3 is set to release next week! I love the idea of the other dynos and how each has a mix of a different dinosaur of our childhood haha. It made me reminisce about land before time haha and how the different team members are different ones and Natalie hopefully will have some fun with her confirmed mate and these possible ones in the next couple books 😍
If you love RH, want something different, want a nerdy but strong female main character, who has been treated poorly by guys and melts when this alien thinks she is the best thing since sliced bread, this will be perfect for you. I loved how much he comforted her, telling her human men had been missing out and praised her. It made me smile and feel good, which is what I was looking for. Cannot wait to get further in book 2 this week and book 3 next week. I am interested to see the plot line with her professor/smugglers, to see if the baddie they mentioned comes out of hiding and also their traitor of a leader. Love this sci-fi RH that has shapeshifting dinosaurs in it ❤️
Natalie is in the jungle with a sanctimonious jerk, who just happens to be her advising professor. Yay. She's put so much hard work into this project and he's going to claim every accolade for himself. But then she gets separated form the team. And worse, something in the jungle is stalking her. Something big.
Spoilers ahead. Oh, I'm excited for a new Burkhart series. We get just enough backstory on Kroktl's character to intrigue without overload. The science behind it is... flexible lol. And, it's a Burkhart, so instant heat. But there an interesting plot hidden in there, too. What was the call that led them here? Why the betrayal? Why were they called back for retirement? What was really going on with the jerk and how will that play out? And will K rally his squad back together? The only part I questioned is Holly being left to fend for herself against the jerk with a shrug. Maybe I've read Isador too many times but I got used to Burkhart's women rallying together. Except for the enemies lol. I can't say I'm into the dino trend but I love Burkhart as an author and I gave it a chance. I'm glad I did. I needed the pick me up after so many horrible book grabs lately.
Alright so I feel like I need to get myself checked out because how was this actually so good?!?! I was so invested in this entire book series that I just hopped from one to the other without even digesting the other one fully yet. This trilogy is a wild ride that I am glad I gave a chance.
Best way to describe this book is Jurassic Park meets The Mummy but like instead of wanting to bang Jeff Goldblum you wanted to bang a velociraptor instead. Weird right? Well, the raptor is apparently just as hot as Jeff Goldblum or even Imhotep (since the raptor is a bald dude) from The Mummy. Built like Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and is sooooooo obsessed and caring that you fall instantly. Panties? Gone. Deceased. Because this alien raptor dude came in swinging and knocked it out of the ball park.
This is a Reverse Harem trilogy but the first book one has one MMC in play. Since I already read the other two books, the reverse harem does its thing and it does it well but that doesn’t happen until later - just fyi.
The world building is great even if this is a short series. I was so invested in understanding how all of this came into play. Like the whole plot was intriguing but the whole alien part would have been great just on its own without the smut.
Now does this have smut? Yes. Like a ton. Is it good? Honestly, it pretty okay. I think there was a few parts that were a little too much but overall it didn’t feel gross or dirty. I can say that I think if the writing style was different then the smut could have worked a lot better.
The only parts that were irritating to me was just how the FMC kept acting about everything. I will say I think she should have been a little more hesitant towards mating than she was. I also couldn’t really stand how she talked about herself.
So obviously even with my enjoyment this only got a 3.5. It is a well deserved 3.5. I can’t say it could get better just because it is a romance book about dinosaurs. It would be immensely hard to get a 5 star with that as the prompt. For what it is, it is funny, intriguing and heartfelt.
I would highly recommend this to anyone who is in a reading slump and loves romance, who loves sci-fi romances or just loves a good weird romance every now and then. It is a wild ride but an enjoyable wild ride. For myself this may become one of my comfort reads for when I’m feeling really down. I can see it happening and I am not mad about it 😊
