"You can take the girl out of the South, but you can't take the South out of the girl."
Jolene Athena Whitley left home a decade ago and has never looked back—until her dream job rejects her. Heartbroken, she vows to get her life back on track. If she can figure out the dirty secrets that flagged her file, the job as an FBI profiler is in the bag.
It would be the perfect plan—if everything she knew about the past wasn’t a lie. Whistler’s Hollow is populated and governed by supernaturals Jolene doesn’t know exist, and until she emerges as one, she’ll never be able to see what’s right in front of her face.
When she moves into her childhood home, everything goes awry: exotic animals invade her house, she lets her ex-bully seduce her, and her new job is teaching the snotty children of her former high school mean girls.
Through all of this, Jolene is determined to follow the clues to reveal all of the Hollow’s secrets. What she doesn’t know is how many of them are also her own.
Bless her heart…this might get ugly.
Home to the Hollow is a full length omnibus that includes Road to the Hollow, Return to the Hollow, and a new full length novel, Roused in the Hollow.
Roused in the Hollow follows the timeline of Jolene’s arrival in Whistler’s Hollow to the end of Return to the Hollow—all through extra material from the POV of her building harem. Learn more about what Wolfie, Presley, Edgar, Benjy, Hugo, Doyle, and Dhameer were doing while Jolene was busy trying to solve her mystery…and how the puzzle pieces fit together before Rejected in the Hollow releases.

This omnibus contains the first 2 Misfit Protection Program books, "Road to the Hollow" , "Return to the Hollow" and a brand new novella, "Roused in the Hollow" . It was a bit of a slow start for me, but as the storyline progressed, there's so much steam, mystery that surrounds this small town, swoon-worthy guys, angst, humor, a very likeable, sassy FMC that you just instantly click with. within the past year and a half, I've really grown to love the small-town trope and this is another one that I definitely would recommend if you do too!
Home to the Hollow is an omnibus of three books - Road to the Hollow, Return to the Hollow and Roused in the Hollow which contains all the POV's from all of the guys. A great addition to the other books i thought.
Jolene is near enough forced back to her old hometown when the circumstances in her life dont go according to plan. Only Whistler's Hollow hasnt been the most welcoming place for her ever. So going back there is not where she wants to be. Jolene is a character that i liked from the first chapter but more so when shes back home. Its when her sassy, witty and sarcastic side comes out more in regards to the folks there. So many plot twists and turns, backstories, backstabbing and underhand people in this book that it all went together to make for a cracking read. I loved every minute reading it so much
Took me a while to read this book. I started it and then lost interest. It’s difficult to understand at times with some of the words that are used, the nicknames switching back and forth, lack of consistency with the characters, timeline is hard to follow, and grammatical and spelling errors. There are times the conversations don’t flow either, and you have to go back and read paragraphs multiple times to try and figure it out. There were times I didn’t figure it out, and I just moved on hoping it wouldn’t impact the story too much. The story is interesting, but the execution is not done well.
I would recommend reading this book even if you have read 'Road' and 'Return' as it includes 'Roused' which doesn't appear to be available separately - but fills in gaps from the first two books. The overall story is very intriguing and unique. I love Jolene's character, she's feisty, independent but also has a very vulnerable side too after everything that has happened to her as a teenager. Her guys are all different and have their own role in her life and in the community, and I enjoyed them barging into her life and inserting themselves into everything. I'm looking forward to where the story is going and to finally getting some answers to what Jolene might be, why she has been hidden for so long and what it all means to the town.
Road to the Hollow (Prequel- Book 0) This story was not what I was expecting at all. Jolene has spent her adult life moving from country to country with the ultimate goal of joining the FBI, but when she gets rejected due to her home town, she returns to try and figure out why. I loved Jolene, she was funny, sassy, confident and went after what she wanted. Now that she's lived elsewhere, coming home seems to highlight how quirky her hometown actually is. I have to admit, I got confused with Jolene's career/job, she seemed to have done so many different things in different places it was hard to keep track. She seemed to have multiple degrees and had worked a wide variety of roles, but was now an art teacher in a school, whilst running a gallery. There is definitely something going on in town and I can wait to find out more from the next book(s).
Return to the Hollow (Book 1) So, this book is marked as book 1 but is more like book 2, you definitely need to have read the prequel (Road to the Hollow) before reading this book, or you'll have no chance at working out what's going on. Jolene has returned to her home town to figure out what stopped her from joining the FBI. Once back she is reminded of why she left in the first place, the 'mean girls' never grew up and town politics are a huge part of society. As she settles in she seems to collect guys and animal companions. But the strange going on in the town are still a mystery to her. There is clearly something everyone is hiding but Jolene is still trying to figure it all out. I love the way the characters are written and this book really lets you get to know them. We find out more about the guys and what they might be and are introduced to a few more secrets but there is so much more that we still don't know but hands seem to be tied. After this book, I definitely have more questions than answers. I have to admit that I had to resort to a cheat sheet of names and their connections; there are so many names flying around and everyone has different nicknames for everyone that I think I'd have been lost without it.
Roused in the Hollow (Book 1.5) So this book was definitely interesting and opened my eyes a lot more to other things going on. The book is from the point of view of the guys, and not just from Jolene's current harem, but also potential members. It does cover the same time line and events that are in Return to the Hollow so in some ways it feels like a repeat, but it also has a lot more added from the event and includes more information about the Society and how it works, along with more about how the guys feel and interact with each other. It was also interesting to see who might also become one of Jolene's future mates. It did puzzle me as to why this book wasn't merged with 'Return' as it did fill in all the gaps that were missing from the previous book. I can only assume to keep the suspense of the story.
I loved the intrigue, the steam, and the humor! The mystery is amazing and has me theorizing big time. The FMC’s relationships are developing in such unique and amazing ways. I’m not a big fan of POV shifts as they are harder for me to read, there are quite a few so just a heads up to check the chapter headings. I liked that the last volume gave us a little taste of what happened after the blackout that had me needing more from the previous volume-it was a great setup to get us read for the next book.
I LOVE the hollow series. Just absolutely love it. Cassandra is an incredible author with absolutely amazing world building skills and I am so ready for more!! Jolene is amazing. Her men are fantastic and I am DYING for the next book I love that this has a novella added to it because I’m loving seeing all this from the mens perspective!! I love it!
Alright, I went into this with a slightly lackluster attitude. I had very little information, and was hesitant about a pretty, but bland cover. DO NOT LET THIS DETER YOU. I picked this up, started reading, and put it down a day later. My poor husband kept walking in on me with chores undone, and kindle app open. The eye rolling from him was pretty strong by the end. But well worth it. There were over 700 pages, and unlike just about every other supernatural book I've read, our heroine has no idea she is special. I don't mean she doesn't know in the beginning. At the end of this Omnibus, she still didn't know, and that blew my mind in a good way. It has set up a world where the harem POV is detailing the paranormal, and Jolene is occupied with a mystery and her men. Because of this, I somehow buy the idea of mates, fated partners, and the slowly falling in love story more than ever before, because Jolene isn't swayed by knowledge of such things. There is no expectation. On top of that, as a reader I'm brought into the story much lime an old school Columbo show murder mystery. We know what has happened (sort of). Now, we are watching Jolene come to her own discovery, and see everyone else fill in the pieces. It is a delightful, and fresh narrative. I am incredibly intrigued with where this story will go, and Cassandra's mastery of words and smoothly flowing writing style has spoiled me for my next book on the docket for reading.
Cassandra Featherstone has pulled together the first two books and the follow-up novella of her Home to the Hollow series into an omnibus. This is a fantastic series that I highly recommend.
It starts off with Road to the Hollow, the story finds talented, smart, confident Joelen Whitley returning home to the small southern town of Whistler's Hollow where the money is old, the politics are sketchy, and the compliments are backhanded. Too bad Jolene's poor history with the town hasn't changed in her absence, after all of her accomplishments they still make her feel like that same bullied girl she was before she left. However, Joelen is determined to play things differently, while she's trying her best with them she also isn't taking any crap. Joelen is marching to the beat of her own drum while collecting men and animals alike, all of which are pretty impressive. I love her feisty spirit and colorful humor. She's most definitely a boss lady who gets things done.
In the second book, Return to the Hollow, things are still weird in this little town and Jolene doesn't have a clue. Her relationships are going pretty well, the guys are great, her animals are her best friends, her actual best friend shows up, and she's managing the townspeople to the best of her ability, with quick wit and lots of snark, I love it. However, there are still more questions than answers. Also by the end, things got a lot more complicated which of course made for a fabulous plot.
Finally, there's Roused in the Hollow. It's a fresh take on the story so far because it's told strictly from the guys' perspectives. This book gives new insight into each of the guys and gives better clues about what's going on in Whistler's Hollow. I mean some major stuff was revealed when things are from the guys' pov. Plus I'm a sucker for a love interest(s) pov so I absolutely loved it. Also, I didn't think I could love Wolfie any more than I already did, I was so very wrong.
This has to be one of the best series that I have ever read. There is a mystery that shrouds this plot, heck I'm still not totally sure about what's going on, it has heartwarming relationships, badass women, a great plot, and fabulous characters. Best of all, it was funny. Seriously I laughed my way through this series and it's not over yet. I'm super excited for the rest of the series.
Plot: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️/5 Spice: 🌶🌶/5 Tropes/Kinks: Queer characters, polyamory/RH, fates mates, groveling, and so much more!
I will admit, this omnibus was off to a slow start for me and I had trouble getting into it. Once our FMC Jolene began meeting her many delicious men, the book picked up. It's interesting, really, as this is a fast-burn book in terms of spice but relationship and harem-wise, it's a bit of a slow-to-medium build! You don't read many RH books where the harem isn't immediately formed so this made "The Misfit Protection Program" series more interesting! By the end of the second book, we have an idea of who is in the harem and the novella included in this omnibus helps to confirm them!
In terms of world-building, Cassandra Featherstone has created a very intriguing supernatural system that lives alongside what we perceive as "normal" society. There is a lot of lore that is uncovered as we get different perspectives throughout this series. I can't wait to see what is going on!
This book was great! I knew I was going to like it going in as I love so much of Cassandra Featherstone’s work, but I didn’t realize just how much I was going to adore it.
Road and Return are the main story, focused on Jolene and her quest to understand why she was rejected from the FBI. Although written in dual POV, it was about Jolene and her growing relationship with Teddy, McSteamy, McDreamy, and Lucky.
I loved Jolene, she is a strong, confident, bada*s, accepting woman, who owns her abilities and her sexuality. What is even more appealing is that despite the traumas she suffered as a child, she is still willing to open herself up to her men, willing to try. Her men are also, for the most part, wonderful. They are loving and supportive and stand behind her. They are also amazing as a group, and the smut is 🔥. There’s just the small matter of them lying the entire time about the supernatural. It will definitely be interesting to see how Jolene handles the truth of what she is and the lies from her partners. I have a feeling it’s going to be a bumpy ride.
I can’t wait for Rejected in the Hollow. I NEED to know what happens next!!!
Roused in the Hollow is the companion to the first two books. Told entirely from the men’s POV, it covers the same time period as the first two books, but gives us the guys interactions, outside of when they’re with Jolene. It’s a really interesting book, because while you already know what happens with the main plot, there is a ton of background and extra information dropped in this book that makes me super excited to read the next one.
Overall, this is a light, easy, incredibly fun read that is absolutely worth the time and emotional investment. I can’t wait for the next one. Why is October so far away?
Enjoyed this series a lot. This collection omnibus is books 1,1.5, and 2. Each book just draws you even farther into the story from the get go. Jolene is sassy and doesn’t dwell on the past. I absolutely loved the fact that the guys POV is used in this series. Cassandra Featherstone went that extra mile and it payed off phenomenally in my opinion. The storyline got better and better as the books go on as well. Looking forward to what comes next. Highly recommend this read the 700 so pages are worth it.
Road to the Hollow - Prequel An action packed introduction to the life that surrounds Jolene Whiteley! After being rejected from the FBI she returns to her home town where she hopes to seek answers as to why her dreams have been crushed! It’s even more of a challenge for Jolene as it’s the place where she was severely bullied at school by her peers and judged by their parents 😩 yet all us not what it seems in this aged backwater town….strange things happen and Jolene appears to be at the centre of things without even being aware! Thankfully Jolene appears to be collecting animal companions as well as a harem along the way to help her 😄 Return to the Hollow - Book 1 This picks up right after the prequel with plenty of action and a great balance between answers and new questions! We learn that Jolene is a big part of the supernatural world, yet we still have no clear idea of what she is and what exactly her role should be 🙈 the book cleverly intertwines old town politics (those which helped drive Jolene out in the first place) and the supernatural quests of which she is entirely unaware! There’s plenty of amusing incidents throughout as her harem and friends are all aware and trying to prevent her old bullies (as well as each other) from spilling the beans 😅 Her harem are certainly an interesting bunch, her two docs ‘Baby Vet’ and ‘Dr McSteamy’ already have an established relationship but easily find a place with Jolene; then there’s her old bully who surprise surprise liked her all along and Teddy certainly comes through as an adult 😝 and then there’s the mysterious Doyle who’s mysterious and full of cheeky charm! Interesting to see how this all ties together… Roused to the Hollow - Book 1.5 This book is entirely in the point of view of Jolene’s growing harem along with some other characters thrown in there as well! It offers some interesting insights into the events of book one especially the connections between the men those which they already had and those which are growing 😝 Moreover it provides some behind the scenes goings on such as more information into the society which make for a richer sense of the world building Featherstone has going on around the Hollow! A great addition to this ongoing series!
Okay, so the negative part first. At the start of this, I felt like I was joining a movie already in progress. Like I had missed the first five chapters of the book, I know I didn't but I was confused a bit and thought I was missing something. Once I got passed that and into the meat of the story of Jolene getting back to her home, things really picked up and got going, and I was hooked! The additional material not found in the first two releases make this totally worth the read as the men get their say too! I can't wait to see what the final book as in store!
Because of how detailed and how many different things are going on I am so thankful she came out with Home to the Hollow which included all the 1st & 2nd with the third being from the guys POV before and during meeting her 😊
Jolene and the guys are amazing. Cassandra’s writing in amazing and really sucks you in. I loved that we got to hear things from the guys point of view as well because sometimes I will admit I thought Jolene was insane but this was mainly due to me being confused. LOL!! But seriously getting extra pieces to the puzzle, hearing it from the guys point of view really helped me out. I don’t think I have read anything like this, it was not only funny, but steamy and so much mystery that you just didn’t want to put it down. I am sooooo excited for the next book.
Oh by the way you really don’t want to miss the scenes with Edgar because …… YUM!! Oh and it looks like we are going to have 7 sexy as fire mates
This was my first book by Cassandra Featherstone and I throughly enjoyed the story. It did confuse me at the beginning but quickly cleared up as the story progresses. One thing that throughly annoyed me was all the capitalization throughout it. A few here and there no worries but everything that was dramatic is another thing. Although, in the last part of the book it doesn’t have the full blown capitalization and was so much more enjoyable. The only other thing was you read through the prequel and then the main part of the story only then to read the POV from each of the stunning characters. That part felt just a little redundant and could have been put together with the second book. Otherwise, I absolutely enjoyed the mystery, drama, suspense, and sexy scenes throughout it. It was well written and did have me where I could not put it down. I am excited to see what is going to happen next and it ended with a fantastic cliffhanger.
This is a fantastic omnibus that contains the following books: Road to the Hollow (prequel), Return to the Hollow (book 1), and Roused in the Hollow (book 1.5).
There is a lot of steam in book 1 and lots of intrigue in all the books. The main character is unaware of the supernatural world, and the fact that she is a part of that world. The men in her life are aware, but they can't just blurt it out and reveal all to her. She has to find out on her own and emerge as her alter self naturally.
This book has great descriptions and a whole cast of interesting and quirky characters. Ones we truly love and others we loathe. A great all-around read for any lover of RH PNR.
Home to the Hollow is the Misfit Protection Program Omnibus by Cassandra Featherstone. If there’s one thing Cass knows what to do it’s creating a story full of unique world building that utterly hooks you with it’s hilarious characters and the loveable companions. I absolutely loved how brilliantly funny and sassy our FMC Jolene is along with her quirky friend Seer. Along with each guy who each have their own very unique personalities that make them so easy to work out who’s who but not necessarily what they are! Full of mystery, craziness, intrigue, steam, drama and our FMC Jolene’s crazy antics this book gives you a whole heap of feels. Did I mention the spice?
Cassandra Featherstone keeps the mystery of romance alive in Home to the Hollow. This box set contains Road to the Hollow where we learn the reason behind Jolene returning to her hometown, Return to the Hollow where we learn some of the secrets surrounding Jolene and she starts to gather a menagerie of men and animals, and Roused in the Hollow where we read about the guys perspective on the events from Return to the Hollow. This reverse harem romance has secret societies, “extranormal” beings, and sassy characters for the reader to fall in love with.
I received a free copy of the book from the author. I had the opportunity to review or not.
This contains three books, this series has been great! It's well written, entertaining, has distinct well developed characters, flows nicely and reads at a good pace. The twists and turns keep you guessing, the detail and depth keeps you totally engrossed. I really enjoyed Jolene and her journey . This was the first series that I've read from this authour and I will definitely be reading more!
This is an amazing opportunity to grab the first two books in this series plus a whole lot of bonus scenes and alternative POV. I LOVE Jolene, she is a super amazing character, larger than life, full of fun and mischief but also vulnerabilities. Her guys are all so different from each other, but also so much fun and intensity especially when it comes to her! If you love a big harem, that's not just all about the female (I mean she is the main character and there is no mistaking that anywhere) but also the relationships between her men, humor that will make you laugh out loud, heartbreaking moments and also moments that leave you frustrated, then this is so the boxset for you. A town full of supes, keeping their secrets, side characters that you will also love and quite frankly, just a really great time!!
Home To the Hollow is a great boxset. The first book Road to the Hollow is a spicy introduction to our FMC Jolene. It will show us lots of mystery and secret with a hint of humor about it.
Book 2 Return to the Hollow will reveal some of the secrets but the more Jolene and her guys falls for each other, the more you want to know about them and who else might end up in her harem. This book has some ups and downs but the need to find out what happened next is incredible.
Book 3 Rouse in the Hollow is from the guy’s pov. It gives us an amazing understanding of how the guys feel about Jolene. And how they feel through out the book.
I can’t wait for this series to continue and to see who Jolene turns out to be.
Can I just say I LOVE Jolene, she is amazing and most definitely one of my most love FMC, she is funny and witty and also kicka££ with hiw even though all she's been through she still came back to her home town with her head held high. I love the guys and how different they are but each one complements her. Her companions are brilliant as well and I loved how the fit in perfectly with this story. The plot for these books are just WOW, they really pull you in and had me hooked from chapter one with the mystery surrounding her return to her home town and I can't wait to see where she ends up in book 3.
This series is so good I didn't want to put it down because I wanted to see what happened next. The characters are so well written you feel like you are right there with them as they go about their lived. The whole series just sucks you right into the story and you just don't want to put it down. I absolutely loved Jolene as she is a seriously strong independent woman. I got a kick out of her showing the guys she is capable of taking care of herself. This book will be on my list of books that I will read over and over again. If you are looking for a strong FMC with a great story that is also a paranormal romance this is the book for you. I wish I could give it more stars.
This is a perfect bundle of books. You get the prequel, book 1 from the mfc point of view mainly and then you get the same again but from the point of view of other characters in the book. I love knowing all the little details and there is bits that I missed in the main story that I then picked up in the other. Good relationships of characters and I’m really interrogated by the premise of the book/series. I can’t wait for book 2.
I do have one downside and that was that there was a lot of different nicknames used by the characters and at times I found it hard to know who they were talking about immediately. Although the last book in the box set helped again as you heard the story from those different characters and got more exposure to those nicknames.
This is a great introduction to this series! From the very start I absolutely loved Jolene as we follow her journey back to her hometown. Welcome to Whistler’s Hollow that it turns out is populated and governed by supernaturals but our mc doesn’t know that!! Things haven’t changed whilst she has been gone but she doesn’t let that get her down. Jolene is smart, sassy and is determined to discover Whistler Hollow secrets. The storyline is intriguing and filled with mystery, it’s got drama, it’s got steam and it’s a journey I have very much enjoyed and the added book told from the guys point of view just enhanced it even more and I have to say I am excited for the next book.
Jolene returns to her hometown after life has kicked her in the teeth. She’s not looking forward to returning to her unwelcoming hometown. Jolene doesn’t hold anything back and her sassy attitude will keep you entertained. You will see her stumble over mysteries of the town and over hot sexy guys.
This omnibus has a prequel Road to the Hollow, book 1 Return to the Hollow and book 1.5 which is from the guys POV.
I can’t wait for book 2 to see how Jolene comes into her powers.
An interesting omnibus. It contains many different points of view, different magical creatures, and unanswered questions that keep you guessing as to what might happen. The cliff hanger at the end leaves a lot of questions for what might come in the next book.
This omnibus is freaking amazing. We get a prequel, book 1 and book 1.5. The prequel: Road to the Hollow gives a nice glimpse, a savory morsel into the Misfit Protection Program. Return to the hollow Jolene moves back to her home town. She finds some mystery and chaos as she meets some yummy guys. This book has soo much detail and awesomeness. Roused to the Hollow is a book from the guys POV which is badass. I always love seeing what the men are thinking. We learn a bit more in this book since we see it from the guys knowlegable sexiness. I definitely cant wait for book 2
