The final novel in the Kincaid Brothers series! Swoony, funny, and sweetly angsty, this is a second chance, small town romance for everyone with a hot mechanic fantasy.
Monica Fischer needs to make things right with the man who was her husband for two short, beautiful weeks. Before she lied and told him it was a mistake. But making things right means crossing the continent to find him and tell him that actually, no, her father’s high-priced attorneys didn’t successfully get them an annulment, and now they need a divorce.
Josh Kincaid left his heart and his patience in California, three years ago. Now he’s trying to make a living as a small town mechanic. The last person he expects to show up on his doorstep is his wife. Ex-wife. Whatever. But demanding she leaves—immediately, without speaking to anyone in his hometown—doesn’t work. A spring snowstorm traps them together, and forces them to confront their lingering resentment, inconvenient longing, and some painful truths.
New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Zoe York is a busy working mom of two young boys, wife to a very understanding soldier, and creator of modern, sexy, small town contemporary romances.
She lives in London, Ontario and is currently chugging Americanos, wiping sticky fingers, and dreaming of heroes in and out of uniform.
This was ok but could have been better. The timeline and momentum with the love story (meet, attraction, love etc) were very off. Most of the relationship building for this couple happened off page. It was tell and not show with flash backs and fast forwards and all that we really got between these two was sex. I liked the heat they had together and the beginning with their meeting and him teaching her about the racing world - had a whole Fast and the Furious feel- but then it shifted into present day and lost all of its excitement. It was just too incomplete and most of the story was missing from this. I enjoy this author’s writing style, liked that she had both of them remain celibate during their separation, but everything else was just so bland. Also never love the term honey for female arousal and a new cringe-term ‘puffy seam’ was introduced here to my disgust. Purple prose doesn’t do it for me in contemporary. Anyway, lots of editing issues and some continuity or timeline disparities but since I had an arc copy, I hope those were corrected in the final edit.
Thanks to Victoria Editing and NetGalley for the copy, this was my honest opinion.
Rebel at Heart is the fifth book in the Pine Harbor series. This is the only book I’ve read of the series and it can be read as a standalone. It’s a second chance romance. This story sadly wasn’t for me. It all felt very superficial. I needed more depth to Josh and Monica cause I wasn’t invested or interested in them. Their connection was very insta and all sex. It could’ve been improved with more depth to the story and dialogue. It was great to be introduced to Josh’s family, his brothers and their wives but it wasn’t enough for me to enjoy Rebel at Heart. There was some editing errors but since this was an ARC I can sidestep them and only look at the overall story which didn’t work for me.
*The ARC was provided by the publisher via NetGalley in exchange for an honest review*
After loving a book by Ainsley Booth a few months ago, I decided to try out her alter ego, Zoe York. Unfortunately, it didn't go quite as well as I had hoped. These two have an instalove relationship, which is lust-focused in both the past and present storyline. We don't see much between them other than sex and angst, so I'm still not exactly sure why they're good for each other. I was also uncomfortable with the age/experience gap - the heroine was 21 when they met, and the 30-year-old hero kept referring to her as "young" and "little," yet he had no trouble sleeping with her right after they met. There are also some references to her age and naivety in handling the breakup, so I was just super uncomfortable with that element. For that reason, I never became invested in the relationship, and I only finished because it was short.
The story follows Josh and Monica, two people who met as strangers three years ago. Though Josh was convinced that the sexy little rich girl was just in it for a fling with a blue collar guy, their one night stand turned into love and a Vegas wedding shortly after they met. Their happiness didn't last long, however, and Monica went running at the first sign of trouble. Three years later, and they both think they've put it past them - until a viral social media post reveals that their annulment never happened. Suddenly, Josh and Monica discover that they're still married after all, and Monica shows up in Josh's hometown to remedy the situation.
Though this is the finale to the series, I had no trouble jumping in and reading this as a standalone. That wasn't the problem. In fact, I think I probably would enjoy other installments in this small town series, especially knowing that I've had better experiences with the author's writing. It's in third person POV, which is not a favorite of mine, but I had no trouble with the style from this author. So parts of it were working, for sure. I can't help but compare this to The Playing Game, which I loved so much. Both books are high steam, but The Playing Game is about 150 pages longer, so there was significantly more relationship development in between the spicy scenes. I don't really have a preference about book length, but I do need more to the relationship than sex, and that's what was missing between these two. Most of that was glossed over. The characters themselves were interesting and I have a feeling I would've enjoyed this a lot more with another 50-100 pages. Having them connect on a deeper level would've removed some of the ick factor revolving around Monica's age as well. So some unfulfilled potential here, but fans of the series will probably enjoy it more.
I really liked this a lot, but something about the structure of the flashback didn't entirely work for me and I'm not sure why and I'm not sure what I would have preferred. And I am definitely not a grand gesture romance person, but Can't wait to see what the next installment of life in Pine Harbor looks like.
Was so excited for this new novel, and it did not disappoint. Monica and Josh's story was swoon worthy, hot, and kept me in suspension. Finished in 2 days! Thank you, Zoe, and I can't wait for more. I need to know about Bianca!!!
Sadly, this was a miss for me. It was enjoyable but it was underdeveloped and there were a handful of sizable plot holes that make no sense and were never addressed. Also, for the first time reading a York/Booth book, I was really disappointed in the number of copy editing errors. More than a handful of missing words, flipped words, etc.
OMG....what a fantastic book by Zoe! This book wad a great way to finish off the series. We met Josh in previous books, grumpy mechanic who moved home 3 years ago after suffering a broken heart...but no one knew about that broken heart. As a mechanic for a racing empire, he met the owners daughter, decided be like her enthusiasm on learning the ropes eventho he knew it was a bad idea but she got under his skin. Monica, racing heiress needed to learn about racing and her dad gave her a fluff job. Best way to learn is on the job and she finds Josh and weasels her way in getting him to teach her racing ways. It went beyond with both liking one another, having a secret affair and getting married in Vegas. Big mistake in Josh's books...her father told him she would choose money and she did. Fast forward 3 years and Josh is trending on tiktok and both find out they are still married. Monica decides to go to Pine Harbour to get the divorce finalized...what's the worst that could happen?
Oof! I spent so much of my time reading this book fighting back the tears. What Josh and Monica had gone through, and everything they were dealing with now just broke my heart. I love everything about the second chance genre. It fills me with such a sense of hope that even when we mess up, there’s still the possibility of correcting our mistakes. And that hope permeates every page of this story. It’s not always light and happy reading, though there’s plenty of spice and lots of laughter, but through it all is that abiding wish for a better outcome this time. And now that we know all the stories of the Kincaid brothers, I can’t wait until we can come back to Pine Harbour to learn about the rest of its single residents.
Title: Rebel at Heart Author: Zoe York Status: Available Now on KU Reading Method: @netgalley eARC
Initial Thoughts: LOVED! Instalove is tricky because it’s hard to get the right chemistry but I thought York executed it perfectly. I was a little nervous when the “3 years earlier” section started but I love how this one is as structured (as opposed to the chapter by chapter flashing back and forth that I’m a little burnt out on at the moment). Monica and Josh were just so perfect for one another.
Reader Awareness: This is pretty instalove (which I feel like is a less popular trope), but as previously stated I thought it was well done. This is part of a series of interconnected standalones, but read perfectly fine alone. My dad boy complaint is now I have to prioritize meeting the rest of the Kincaid brothers STAT 😂
Recommended For: Small Town lovers, racing/car buffs, enjoyers of a good Romcom (it wasn’t “crack up” funny per se, but loads of great one liners)
This wasn’t my favorite of the series but I still enjoyed this second chance romance. Not deducting a star for this but the editing—particularly after the 60% mark—was awful. So many instances of dropped words.
I really like this author's writing and this series, but the inconsistencies in the timeline always suck me out of the story. It happens in others books as well, and it happens quite some times in this one. Sometimes Josh had been working for Monica's father for 6 years when they met, sometimes it's 8. Sometimes Monica was away for school for 6 years, others it's 9. The most obvious one: we see a flashback from 3 years ago where Josh is 30 and Monica is 21, and right after we get back to present day he says he's almost turning 35. I don't get it, it should be fairly easy to detect these mistakes. Took down a star because of it.
I have been waiting (not so patiently, mind you) to finally get Josh’s story - ever since the end of Fierce at Heart (Kincaids of Pine Harbour #2) where he oh-so-casually dropped a bomb about spending his honeymoon in Bali. Which was quite the surprise because when he returned home to Canada after living in the US for ten years, he did so without a wife in tow.
I’m not sure why, but I love, really LOVE, a second chance love story. Near as I can tell, Zoe York started me on my love of this trope when I bought her book Love in a Small Town (Pine Harbour #1) in May of 2015. There’s just something about the way Zoe York writes this trope that pulls me in and makes me feel ALL THE FEELS. Rebel at Heart was no exception and it was definitely worth waiting through two other books. Sidenote: it especially didn’t hurt that Fearless at Heart (Kincaids of Pine Harbour #4) was also a second chance romance!
This ended up being a fairly sweet (yet also pretty steamy), uncomplicated story. Josh and Monica had a whirlwind romance three years ago and got married. But shortly after returning from their honeymoon, Monica ended things. They both thought their divorce had been finalized, but when Monica discovered it was not, she put on her big girl panties and headed to Pine Harbour to get things sorted. Then unpredictable spring weather got involved and a quick in-and-out visit turned into a couple of days. Which is all the time they needed to get things sorted…in the direction of happily-ever-after instead of divorce.
The thing I loved most about this story is that both the hero and heroine behaved like adults. Yes, they got angry. Yes, they said things they regretted. But there was no over-the-top drama or silly angst. They were honest with each other about how they felt, with no beating around the bush or keeping their feelings to themselves. Josh, especially, laid his heart bare several times which is great to see because usually heroes in romances keep their feelings close to the vest. I would have liked a couple more deeper, heartfelt conversations (it seemed like Josh and Monica got interrupted…a lot), but it was lovely reading about a couple who didn’t fight their dormant feelings once they figured out how they felt.
I have to confess, I was dreading the end of this book. I have loved this series. I loved how close-knit the Kincaid brothers are, and how their women joined the crazy fray. I’ve loved the town of Pine Harbour and was sad to be saying goodbye. But just when I was settling into a resigned state of happiness with the last words of Rebel at Heart, I found out we’re getting another series in Pine Harbour! It won’t be here for another year. But it’s coming and I can be happy with the knowledge I’ve not said goodbye to Pine Harbour for good.
Zoe York continues to put out contemporary romance that hits all the marks for me. Characters that seem real, some humor but not over the top, some angst and pining, and a romance that is both sweet and sexy. I've read the book prior to this but not the rest of the series and I think this does work as a standalone.
The set-up of this is poor little rich girl and blue collar car mechanic have a whirlwind romance and get married on a lark but things fall apart (falling for the boss' daughter goes predictably sideways), and the book gives us their second chance romance in the present time as well as the prior romance in flashbacks. She comes to the small Canadian town where he lives to ask for a divorce after discovering their original annulment didn't actually happen. I really enjoyed the slow burn as they get reacquainted and navigate the lingering hurt from their breakup as well as the attraction that clearly never really went away and continues to pull them together. The reasons for their rift all those years ago seem both very realistic and a little bit ridiculous; I understood why things happened the way they did but still wondered if it all could've been resolved sooner. But that's a minor quibble and didn't detract from my enjoyment of the story. The author has a really deft hand at crafting what's essentially a small Midwest town vibe (set on Lake Huron in Canada, so there's a lot of similarities to U.S. Midwest/Great Lakes) though I also feel like it's a bit of an idealized small town. Which is not a bad thing! If you like small town romance, this is definitely a very well executed story in that subgenre.
What really sold me on this book was the characters. Monica is very driven and curious but also thoughtful and not at all what one might expect from the rich daughter of a very successful businessman. She is trying to forge her own path and not get by on her family's money or reputation. And then there's Josh, well, he really is the perfect book boyfriend. He's got that incredibly sexy "guy who knows his way around a car" vibe and a true passion for his vocation (he's a great mechanic but what he really loves is restoring older cars), but he's not really an alpha male. He's also really into Monica from the get-go; he's attracted to her physically but what really pulls him in is seeing how she's passionate about her career in the same way he is. He falls pretty hard for her and it's fun to watch the hot mechanic be completely undone by the smart and potentially "off limits" daughter of his boss. His main flaw being that he holds stuff in as a protective mechanism, both with Monica and his family, especially in the present, when he is sitting with a lot of resentment over the break-up and feeling misunderstood within his family because he moved away to the US for a long time and because now everyone but him is settled down. I really liked how the progression of Josh and Monica's relationship also paralleled Josh improving and growing in his relationships with his brothers. Monica also has some family stuff to work through. So what you really get is a small town romance and a bit of a family drama as well. I'm really looking forward to going back to read the earlier books in this series given how much of the Kincaid family there is in this book.
Thank you to NetGalley and the publisher for the ARC I received!
This is book five and the final book in The Kincaid Brother’s series and it is Josh and Monica’s story and omg what an amazing ending to an incredible series. Josh and Monica have history because they had been briefly married three years ago and ended with Josh returning home to Pine Harbour where his family are and he now owns his own garage and also restored cars, he also spends time with his family while trying to move forward with his life without his past defining him especially as he hadn’t told his family that he had got married and what had happened. Monica is on her way to Pine Harbour to speak to Josh after finding out that there divorce hadn’t been finalised so they were still officially married so now she needs to set everything in motion so that they can sort everything out and be able to move forward especially after everything that she did to him. The more time that Josh and Monica spent together the more they both realise that they still love each other and there chemistry is still as strong as ever but there is so much anger and hurt especially after Monica found out that her father who is controlling, manipulating, and horrible father and human being who never showed her love had been the person that broke her and Josh apart for his own gains but will Josh and Monica be able to communicate, trust each other and put the past behind them to get a second chance at the happiness and future that they both want and deserve. Wow this was such an emotional story that took you on a rollercoaster ride and I couldn’t put it down as it was so addictive and the storyline pulled you in and had you turning the pages to see what the outcome would be for them. I read this book in one sitting until the early hours of the morning as it kept my attention throughout the whole story. I have loved every single book in this series but I have to say that this one was definitely my favourite and I am so sad to see this amazing series come to an end but look forward to reading what Zoe York writes next as she is an amazing author and writer who known how to have her readers totally hooked and I definitely recommend you read this book, series and other books by her and you will not be disappointed.
Rebel at Heart by Zoe York is the final novel in the Kincaid Brothers. I have read some, but not all of the previous books, and I think they all stand fine on their own, but returning readers will get a kick out of seeing old favorites pop up.
A spring snowstorm traps them together, and forces them to confront their lingering resentment, inconvenient longing, and some painful truths.
Rebel at Heart is a second chance romance that skirts around the things in that sub genre that usually don't work for me. We got to see the entire relationship with flashback that work well in the story, rather than feeling jarring which sometimes happens. I liked both Monica and Josh as characters and was glad to see Josh get his happy ending. The book hit a nice balance between them getting to know each other again and handling feelings, although I would have liked it if they spoke about the issues more, and earlier, rather than just stewing in their own hurt and fear. But, if they did that the book would have been much shorter. I enjoyed the tiny slice of small town you get in the story, but I feel like there was much less of that in this book than in the previous books in the series. I also liked the family and support system that was hinted at, but again that was less evident to those that might have not read the other books and know how much the brothers support each other.
Rebel at Heart is an engaging and entertaining read. A must read for fans of the author and series, and enjoyable for everyone.
I'll be honest, this series didn't capture my heart like the Fosters and Minelli's did, in the previous Pine Harbour series....that was until this final book. I LOVED this book. We got a hint of Josh's secret, seemingly failed marriage a few books prior and then of course there was that cliffy epilogue in the previous book. Josh and Monica's story was beautiful and heartbreaking all at once. Josh was clearly such a goner for her and I just wanted to shake them every time the word 'divorce' came up. That part was a little too angsty for me...they kept saying it was going to be over when they were both clearly still in love. JUST COMMUNICATE PEOPLE. Anyway, it was great and I loved it. The bonus chapter linked at the end was highly satisfying and included something I desperately wanted to happen...with a certain beloved car being reclaimed. Perfection. This book had: -3rd person/dual POV -forbidden love (when they meet)-boss' daughter -forced proximity (we love a perfectly timed/fated snow storm) -age gap 24/34 -second chance romance -oops we're still married but that works out cuz we still love each other -he fell so hard -'wife'---love a trope with marriage before the happy ending...convenience, fake, or like this one...just a lot of possessive 'wife' talk makes me smile -dirty talk....these Kincaid man....I tell you -HEA (don't forget to get that bonus epilogue)
It was strange to think that Josh was technically the first one married out of the five of them but his story was last. Those 3 lost years broke my heart a little bit for them. Zoe York will continue to be a 1-click for me. If you love small town romance I can't recommend Pine Harbour enough. Can't wait to revisit next year!
Josh Kincaid is the last Kincaid sibling to get his story and the final Kincaid Brothers series. When we first see Josh, he’s a wonderfully broken man. He met and fell hard for Monica while he worked for her father and the family’s racing dynasty in California as a mechanic on the team. He returned home three years ago following a breakdown in their relationship and has been closed off since. Imagine his surprise when Monica shows up in Pine Harbor.
When you read a story by Zoe York you can expect the love of family, the quirkiness of the town, the angst and desire of the main characters, and some good hot steam. All these were here and made for a marvelous story. I love these brothers, this town, and the series surrounding the Kincaid, the Minelli, and the Foster families. If it weren’t for the snow, I’d move to this town right now and be friends with these people. I was captivated immediately by Josh and not only his dedication to the job, but his commitment to Monica and his family. Once he fell, he was all in! Monica was lovely too. She put Josh and his needs before her own and did what she thought was right to protect him no matter how misguided. They have so much hurt and angst to overcome and I found myself really rooting for them to open up like they did when they first met. Together, they are so hot they almost melted my Kindle. I love how his family banded together to help Josh and Monica find their way back together, and the way they just accepted and took her in. A wonderful end to the Kincaid Brothers series. I received an arc of this book from NetGalley, and this is my honest review.
I've been waiting for Josh's story and it did not disappoint! Throughout all the other books, I knew he was hiding something ... I just didn't think it was a wife. I was rooting for Josh and Monica even though I knew the odds were against them. Ms. York has this style of writing those small-town stories that make you want to live there. Even though this is a feel good sweet story ... the steam is off the charts. I can't wait to see what's next in Pine Harbour.
Josh fell hard and fast for Monica even though he knew she should be off limits as the boss's daughter. He just never thought he would end up back in Pine Harbour owning a garage. He dreamed of the car racing life or owning a car restoration business. Monica knew that no one would take the boss's daughter seriously, but she was determined to learn everything she could about the racing world as she was the sole heir to a racing dynasty. But when she fell in love with a mechanic who worked for her father, she knew deep down it would end badly. Josh and Monica were only married for a very short time before her father insisted the marriage be annulled. When he fired Josh and Monica said their marriage was a mistake, he had no choice to leave. Three years later Monica has to track Josh down and get him to sign divorce papers. All she has to do is keep her heart out of it.

The final Kincaid brother gets his story! What a great finish to this story line by Zoe York. I have read all of this series and all were great but I really enjoyed this one; it may have been my favorite. As always, York has a great writing style that keeps you engaged and you will fall in love with all the characters. The dynamic between the brothers and their wives is great.
This final book follows Josh and Monica. Monica is a racing heiress who originally wanted to learn the business so she could one day take it over from her father. Enter Josh who is older and helps runs her father's racing team. Josh is very against the idea at first but Monica persists and a secret affair starts between them. When they run off to Vegas to get married in private, her father disapproves and intervenes. An annulment happens, Josh moves home to Canada a bit bitter and quiet and Monica tries to move on. Fast forward three years to when both realize the annulment never happened. Monica wants to make things right but Josh just wants her out of his hometown. But as they start to resolve the past, Josh realizes he still loves Monica even thought hey come from different worlds. With some help from family and some soul searching, the two start to relearn each other and become friends. But can it be more? Can they overcome all the obstacles?
Overall a great read and I would recommend. I love the emotions from all the characters. Felt very real to me.
Josh and Monica went their separate ways after the end of their very short marriage, and now three years later it appears that all isn't as resolved as they thought. Monica owes Josh an explanation, in person, face to face. Right before an unexpected snow storm traps her in his apartment for a couple days. A couple glorious days.
I loved that the author took us back to the beginning and gave us their entire love story from day one. And what a story it was! These two have an almost instant chemistry, despite an age gap of close to a decade, and by the end of their first day together I was in love with both of them. But the powers-that-be sought to break them up, and nearly succeeded.
This is, as expected from this author, a very steamy, sensuous book. And I loved every dirty bit of it. These two deserve every minute of their time together after all they went through while they were apart. And their time wasn't just spent on physical activities; they bravely faced their broken hearts and shattered feelings to lay bare all their emotional baggage, which allowed the truth to come out and gave them both a HEA that was far more than either one could have hoped for.
It's an outstanding way to finish up a stellar series. As much as I loved each and every one of the earlier books, I think this one is my absolute favorite. Highly recommended. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.
Zoe York's spicy 'A Rebel At Heart' is for everyone who loves ...
Forced proximity (Yeay, snowed in!) Instant crush to lovers to enemies to lovers Small town setting in Canada A mechanic falls (hard!) for millionaire heiress Age gap Second chance Oh, and there's also a secret Vegas wedding, a Bachelor auction, and nursing someone back to health!
So, I mean, if you just like some of these then... WOW, you're in for a treat!
What's this spicy romance about? They discover that they're still married, after what they thought was an annulment 3 years ago. Back then, he was a mechanic in the company her billionaire father owns. They fell for each other - in secret, so hard, and instantly. Things didn't go well, and now she's travelling to Canada to get them the divorce they thought didn't need to get.
He's still heartbroken and angry, she wants to make sure he's going to be ok.
'A Rebel At Heart' is the 5th and final book of the Kinkaid Brothers series that can definitely be read as a standalone.
Thank you to Zoe York and NetGalley for the opportunity to read this book in exchange for a fair review.
Content guidance: parental neglect, bullying, explicit sex scenes of consenting adults, coarse language.
What a way to end a series! Josh never spoke much about his time away from Pine Harbour. He wanted to leave that part of his life behind, but his past came walking back into his life in front of the whole town when his wife shows up! Monica loved Josh from day one, but was manipulated into letting him go. A marriage between the racing princess and the mechanic should have never worked, but it did for a few short weeks. Three years later she finds out that her father lied about everything and they are still married, and she is devastated all over again. She is determined to tell Josh in person and flies across the country to confront him with what she learned. Neither has truly gotten past the hurt and the pain, or the love they had for each other. When they are snowed in together Josh finally learns the truth about their past, and the walls around their hearts begin to crumble. Can they find their way back to each other, can they get back at her father for everything he has done? With the help of her mother, who is a fabulous side character, anything is possible! I loved this so much!!
Zoe York is a must to me. I’ve bought and reviewed many of her books and I´ll keep doing it. Monica Fischer needs to make things right with the man who was her husband for two short, beautiful weeks. The last person he expects to show up on his doorstep is his wife. Ex-wife. Whatever. A spring snowstorm traps them together, and forces them to confront their lingering resentment, inconvenient longing, and some painful truths. I loved this book! It has many great moments. The past is super steamy and absolutely romantic. It broke my heart to see the way her family destroyed that happiness. But now they are trapped in Pine Harbour and they are going to need to fight for a new chance together. There are amazing sex scenes, strong dialogs and a lot of aghast. It was great to see many side characters from previous books. I highly recommend it! I received an advance review copy for free, and I am leaving this review voluntarily.

Rebel at Heart is the fifth and final book in the Kincaid Brothers series. It is a second chance romance. I really enjoyed the story between Monica and Josh. This book was a quick and easy read.
Thanks to NetGalley and Zoe York for an eARC in exchange for an honest review.
This is the last book of the Kincaid series. Daugher of a car racing team and Josh working for that team. They come together because Monica wants to learn about racing and wants Josh to teach her. What happens is the they end up falling in love and getting married so he doesn't have to rely on her father for a green card. Her father finds our and get their married annulled. Josh gets fired and heads back home to Pine Harbour. What they find out 3 years later is the marriage was never annulled. Monica goes up to PH and find Josh and explain they are still married but he finds out for himself via social media. When she shows up they realise they both have feelings for each other. Thru ups and downs of the next few days they also realize they are still in love with each other. They fight their feels so much but in the end they come together are she buys him in the Bachelor auction. She comes back from her bf wedding because she can't live without Thank you Zoe for another amazing series. Looking forward to the next one.
Josh and Monica went their separate ways after the end of their very short marriage, and now three years later it appears that all isn't as resolved as they thought. Monica owes Josh an explanation, in person, face to face. Right before an unexpected snow storm traps her in his apartment.
Josh Kincaid is sort of the outsider of the family. He didn’t go into the military, he left right after high school and moved to America, and didn’t come back for six years. Monica Fischer is a force of nature, sweet kind and caring and when she comes into his life, as much as he doesn’t want to, he can’t resist her. Their journey broke my heart and put it back together so much better.
The fact they even tried to contain their chemistry, before or now, is absolutely insane! Their hearts though, those sensitive, sweet, protective, hearts they have, that is what will make you fall in love with them, root for them, cry with them, and celebrate with them. These two should have lived out their dream three years ago.
One of my favorite Kincaid brothers gets his story. Josh is not former military, as his brothers, but cars and racing were always his passion. His other passion became Monica Fischer, daughter of the chairman of Fischer Racing. The two weeks they spent together were amazing as he taught her what she wanted to learn about racing and about him. Monica had never felt so free, but circumstances forced her to return to the life that was chosen for her. Josh had only wanted her love, not her wealth and when she learns that their Vegas wedding had not been annulled, she leaves for Pine Harbour to notify Josh; hopefully without her parents’ interference. When a freak storm hits the town, she has no choice but to stay with him and the feelings between them ignite once again. Enjoying this time with Josh and the Kincaid’s, she realizes that for years she has considered everyone’s needs, but now it is her turn to have what she needs, a life with Josh. A beautiful love story with hot romance! I received an advance review copy at no cost and without obligation for an honest review. (paytonpuppy)
Rebel at Heart (The Kincaid Brothers Book 5) is a second chance at marriage for Josh Kincaid and Monica Fischer. By Zoe York expect drama, angst, and explicit open bedroom doors. This provides plenty of all.
A marriage thought to be annulled before it had much of a chance Josh and Monica find out that never happened. Now for the divorce. However, what brought them together is still there between the two of them. Josh had his heart broken three years ago so he is wary to say the least. Monica is still somewhat under her parents’ control so there are problems there too. A intriguing story, reading to see if what stopped them years ago could be overcome in the present.
Told from dual perspectives with flashbacks the plot is interesting and complex. Reads well as a stand-alone though all the Kincaids are acknowledged and accounted for in this story. Even little Charlie Kincaid is old enough to talk now.
An ARC of the book was provided by the publisher through NetGalley which I voluntarily chose to read and review. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Yes, it was an "instant lust" story and yes there were small editing issues here and there. Maybe I was in the right mood for it, but it was one of my favorites. I love blue collar heroes! And we reversed the millionaire to being the female rather than the male. As far as insta-lust, the author does describe them making food together at different times in his apartment and telling each other their career aspirations/hopes. Josh comments on Monica's curiosity multiple times, telling us she asked lots of questions which led to various discussions between the two. We had an age gap also but she was 21 and he was 30, I believe, when they met. Thank heavens we didn't have a hero who constantly played the I'm too old for her card throughout, since they were both adults. Also the flashbacks to tell their history seemed to flow well with the story and wasn't disruptive or jarring to the storyline for me. It flowed well and moved along. And it was wonderful to see the brothers' group chat with usual teasing and support, along with the sisters-in-law support and inclusion.
Rebel at Heart is the final book in the Kincaids of Pine Harbour series. It's an insta-lust turning to love, loosing each other then having a second chance at love story that can easily be read as a stand-alone, although we do get to meet up with all the brothers and their partners. Josh is a very likeable character, nursing a broken heart while pretending to be fine - until he comes face to face with his past - and is forced to work through this feelings. Monica is very young and impetuous in the beginning and it took me a while to warm to her. The chemistry is explosive so there are lots of spicy sexy times, along with some angst. I would have liked to have seen more of the coming to love part and there were elements of their first break-up that remained unexplained, but it is a very entertaining read ending in a tongue-in-cheek HEA. I received an ARC of this book and am leaving this review voluntarily and honestly.
