Not the best written but chock-full of interesting ideas and information you won't get from mainstream media. Written by a civil liberties activist and former Australian professor with a rather colourful history. I believe he lost his job because of his views. Read this if you haven't already made up your mind about Assad (no, he doesn't think Assad is an angel). The least it could do would be to give you another perspective.

Short and concise. Mostly all you need to understand the Syria conflict, to sort out the real narrative and detect and expose the lies of the Western powers via their politicians and corporate media.

This book does an excellent job exposing the war propaganda surrounding the Syrian conflict. Much of it is quite brazen. Of course, the author is something of an Islamophile, which is to be expected from a leftist of his stripe. He also talks about European colonialism and tries to dissect the "western colonial mentality." In fact, it seems a trend for these anti-war leftist types to blame "the west" for everything, and this author continues in that tradition. Of course, I would argue that a certain alien tribe who have gained control of the west's institutions are more to blame than this vague idea of "the west." But with all that said, this is still a good book. Certainly required reading to understand the Syrian conflict.

A tratti caotico per la mole d'informazione presentata e discussa ma molto valido come evidenza dell'ingerenza dei potentati - in questo caso occidentali - nelle vicende di altri popoli e paesi non allineati utilizzando tutti i mezzi a disposizione incluse massicce campagne mediatiche capaci di spacciare vere e proprie invasioni come interventi umanitari pur di avere l'approvazione dell'opinione pubblica.

Arfaslakt áróðurs- og afsökunarrit fyrir ríkisstjórn Assads.

Anderson slær um sig með fræðimennsku, en skrifar eins og versti snápur og það væri synd að segja að hann beiti fræði- eða faglegum vinnubrögðum. Allt er reynt til að reyna að sannfæra lesandann um ágæti Assads (sem Anderson kallar "geðþekkan augnlækni)" og réttmæti málstaðar hans og framgöngu stjórnarinnar og allt sem rímar ekki við þá mynd véfengt sem falsáróður og/eða hluti af vestrænni heimsvaldastefnu, lygar eða hroðvirknisleg vinnubrögð. Sem er sérlega kaldhæðnislegt í ljósi þess hvernig Anderson vinnur, þar sem bókin hefur sérlega lélega heimildavinnu, enda ekki ritrýnd.

Anderson keppist við að útmála stjórn Assads á besta veg, og skellir skollaeyrunum við öllu sem ekki gengur upp við þá mynd, vitnar í alræmda samsærismiðla, síður og einstaklinga sem eru vilholl ríkisstjórnum Assads og Pútíns, ríkismiðla þ.á.m., sem er aftur kaldhæðnislegt í ljósi þess hvernig hann reynir að útmála vestræna miðla sem hlutdræga, en ekki íranska, rússneska eða sýrlenska. Meðal þeirra sem hann kallar "and-heimsvaldasinna) eru t.d. SANA (ríkisrekin, Syrian TV tengt uplýsingaráðuneyti Sýrlands), Press TV Iranian Network (tengt Islamic Iranian Broadcasting – yfirmaðurinn skipaður beint af Ayatollah Khameini), RT – Russian Television( Pró-Pútínáróður), Telesur – (þar sagði einn sig úr stjórn vegna slagsíðu með Gaddafi. Einnig gagnrýni frá Human Rights Watch. Plús political bias controversies (sjá Wikipediasíðu).

Meðal "óháðra fjölmiðla" sem Anderson vísar í eru Global Research, alræmd samsærissíða sem hefur margoft verið staðinn að því að halda fram argasta kjaftæði, svo sem efasemdum um helförinna og tunglendingar, andbólusetningaáróðri auk 9/11 samsæriskenninga og Al Manar, sem er beinlínis Hesbollah-miðill (sem kemur meira að segja fram í hlekks-vísuninni hjá honum, ætli hann átti sig á ósamræminu?

Restin af bókinni er eftir þessu. Anderson velur þá miðla og einstaklingasem styðja hans versjón, pikkar út úr öðrum það sem hljómar í samræmi við málflutning hans og ýmist sleppir að minnast á það sem samræmist því ekki eða drepur því á dreif. Sem dæmi má nefna þegar hann vitnar í viðtal við blaðamanninn Nir Oren um að liðhlaup hafi orðið í hernum síðar en vopnuð uppreisn hófst, en klippir beinlínis út þegar Oren segir að uppreisnarmenn hafi gripið til vopna EFTIR að vopnlausum mótmælum var mætt með ofbeldi af hálfu yfirvalda. Það er svo gegnumgangandi í bókinni að Anderson heldur fram óstaðfestum fullyrðingum og vísar á ótraustverðar heimildir. Þar má t.d. nefna fullyrðingu hans um að Bandaríkin styðji Al Kaída, sem hann nefnir ekki eina einustu heimild fyrir, orð hans eru greinilega sannleikur se mekki þarf frekari vitnanna við.

Bókin getur engan vegin talist standast fræðilegar kröfur. Þegar upp er staðið hefur Anderson engar traustverðar heimildir fyrir málflutningi sínum. Hún er, sem fyrr segir, áróðurs- og afsökunarrit, klappstýrulofrulla um Assad. Hún er í senn það illa unnin að það er grátbroslegt, ósvífin og óheiðarleg.

Ekki er tóm í ekki lengri pistli að geta allra misfellanna í bókinni, til þess eru þær einfaldlega of margar. Ég hef tekið aðfinnslur mínar við hana saman í skjali, blaðsíðu fyrir blaðsíðu og mun gera þær aðgengilegar síðar.

The book approaches the topic from an unconventional perspective, particularly in contrast to Western and mainstream media narratives. It provides a more precise understanding of the role the United States plays in the Middle East, especially in Syria.

"A Yemeni AnsarAllah leader says "Wherever there is U.S. interference, there is al Qaeda and ISIS. It’s to their advantage."

In my opinion, this book offers a valuable lesson, particularly for those accustomed to conventional, media-driven perspectives. It challenges readers to explore alternative views on complex issues. For example, many people are conditioned to think, "Assad is entirely vicious and must be overthrown or exiled, and Syria needs to rid itself of his regime. Then everything will improve." On the other hand, supporters of the Assad regime might argue, "The U.S. and its allies are ruining Syria and attacking Assad’s government, so we must support it at all costs."

I believe we need to move beyond such polarized thinking. It's essential to recognize that there are shades of grey in every issue. Just as there are aspects of white in black and black in white, nothing is entirely good or bad. Everything contains elements of its opposite.

Pure Pro Assad Propaganda. Truly pathetic. This book is basically lies and conspiracy theories to whitewash a genocidal dictator that killed hundreds of thousands of civilians.

Ottimo testo, in grado di mettere in luce le criticità di un'informazione occidentale filo-statunitense poco obiettiva e con l'unico scopo di "accaparrarsi" l'opinione pubblica. L'autore descrive minuziosamente una delle farse più grandi della storia contemporanea: la guerra in Siria combattuta , per procura, da altri stati.
