Uprising

Isaac had lost Michael once. He wouldn’t survive a second time…

Michael

Five years ago, he became the alpha of the most influential London pack. Responsible for monitoring and suppressing the human resistance, also known as the Candidate Evacuation Group.
A group he’d secretly founded.
Now exposed and on the run, labelled a traitor by his peers, he finds refuge in the home of the man he left behind. The only man he’s ever loved.
For Michael, that love burns as bright as it always has, but they’ve been apart a long time. He can’t expect Isaac to still feel the same.
But he can hope.

Isaac

When Michael left for London after the war, he took Isaac’s heart with him, promising to return when the time was right. But that took longer than either of them expected.
Now he’s back, with the whole of the Shifter Alliance Party out for his blood. But being together is hard. Long-buried feelings bubble to the surface, and rekindling an old romance is low on the list of priorities—they have a rebellion to fight.
Isaac will protect Michael with his life.
Always.
But trusting him with his heart again isn’t nearly as easy.

Uprising is an angsty MM paranormal romance with second chances, suspense, and all the feels.

An absolutely triumphant way to end this superb shifter paranormal romance series.

For the final book, we move on from Cole and Logan and get to find out just what on earth has been going on behind the scenes with the CEG and what role Michael McKillan has played in the resistance.

I couldn't have asked for a better ending to this series as it centres on Michael and Isaac, the alpha of the Mothecombe pack we've already seen risking his life to help shifters escape to Jersey.

It was clear from the end of book two that these two had some serious history between them and it slowly unfolds through this adrenaline-packed narrative.

There'll be no spoilers here again, let's just say I cursed, I raged for someone to die in a flaming pit of Hell, I sighed, I swooned, for gawd's sake, I nearly cried, and that rarely happens!

With incredible pacing throughout, there's no let-up from the moment the story starts until it reaches its very satisfying conclusion.

On the way, it chases through twists and turns, through secrets revealed and emotions laid bare before it continues to surprise with revelations I still hadn't seen coming.

I was so glad Annabelle chose to add an Epilogue to this series, I really hope she hasn't quite finished with it and we may get an odd short story or novella in the future.

But, if this is the end, it goes out on a perfect note for me, with nothing left to be said and two men, somewhat out of the first flushes of youth, living their best lives with two intermingled and small packs on a beautiful stretch of the Cornish coast.

#ARC kindly received from the author in return for an honest and unbiased review.

I also was fortunate to beta read this book for Annabelle.

Paranormal romance is one of my favorite things. Annabelle Jacobs’s stories are another. Reunited lovers crashing back into the arms of their soulmates after forced separation is a third. As you can see, this third and final book in the Rebellion series is brimming with things that bring me joy. YES! It was nice to slip away and lose myself in a place buzzing with energy and choke-full of emotions. It’s always a bit sad when a series comes to an end, but I’m counting on Annabelle to dish out more brilliant shifter books before long. If you’re not familiar with her hair-raising tales, you’re in for some remarkable reading!

What's to like: Exceptional shifter world. Whenever I read paranormal romance, especially a shifter tale, I want to have a full-body experience. I want to feel it. I want to be consumed by their supernatural powers. I want to know, without question, that I am amongst wolves. As usual, Jacobs delivered everything I craved and more. The underlining danger, the ripple of the beast inside the man, the internal battle of control, it was all there. I don’t typically seek out stories about politics, I read to relax, but I didn’t mind the political drive pushing the plot here. The time has come and the highly anticipated fall of the corrupt system had me sitting on the edge of my seat. I was nervous, excited, and captivated. But most of all, I couldn’t wait for Isaac and Michael to complete their bond. They gave their hearts to one another five years ago, but now it’s time to exchange bites. Or has too much time passed? Are they the same men? *bites lip* Maybe not?

What's to love: Quite simply, the love. This was the romance I was searching for! They are at war which is far from romantic. However, war is a stark reminder that every day is a gift and love is too precious to ignore. If you are lucky enough to find love, you should seize it with both hands and never let go. Isaac and Michael made the impossible decision to set aside their own personal desires and happiness and put their mission first. At the time, they thought it would be a brief separation. After almost six years they are finally on the cusp of overthrowing the Shifter Alliance Party. The road here was paved with betrayal and backstabbing. Michael lost his pack and his family. There are so many questions and even more to do. But they can’t avoid the elephant in the room; can they pick back up where they left off? They should take some time to reacquaint and ease into a relationship, right? That would be the responsible thing to do. But what if they are running out of time? If their wolves were in charge there would be no question or hesitation. Maybe that’s what I love about wolves, they let their hearts rule. They don’t overthink or agonize, they act. They love fiercely and completely. And as it turns out, these two are no exception. *sigh* My heart is happy.

Beware of: Series dependent…you cannot read this out of order. War is full of horrors…and sometimes torture. Two alphas mating can be challenging…and hot.

This book is for: Shifter fans or anyone considering becoming one, this series is a magnificent place to start.

Same review for the second and third book in the series because, even though they are about two different couples, I had pretty much the same experience with these and the first book. I liked the overarching plot of the series, it wasn’t perfect, but it did the job done well; the relationships weren’t as good, though, I didn’t much feel the romance in Logan and Coles’s case and even the second book didn’t help much in that regard. It was marginally better in the third book, at least the lack of relationship development could be explained with it being a second chance scenario, so it didn’t feel as insta-love as Logan and Cole, but going around and around the same thoughts about their relationship started to feel a little repetitive after a while.
I did enjoy the series, although I’ve a feeling it won’t be one I’ll remember in detail in the not-so-distant future.

This was a wonderful conclusion to a really good series. It was interesting to have a book narrated by Michael and Isaac instead of Cole and Logan (the two we've been following for the past two books), but it makes more sense. Both for the continuing of the story and the plot.

2.5 rounded down

To be fair, I had a feeling based on the first books that my enjoyment was going to decrease, which was sadly the case. The steam in this one is pretty mild, and the plot/world-building has some interesting bone but it's just flimsy and unbelievable to the point of distraction. I just couldn't get interested in the plot, and the weak romance plot and exhausting rehashing of the same issues over and over just prevented me from really enjoying it.

I’m definitely in the minority on this, but I was very disappointed in this conclusion to the Rebellion series. With the first two books being so action packed, and the story moving along so well, I felt like someone slammed on the brakes and I smashed my head into the windshield with this one. It was a complete snooze fest. 🥱😴

***There are spoilers ahead for book 2***

The story picks up where book 2 ended with Logan, Cole, Aaron, Smith, Nick, and Michael taking shelter with Isaac down in his pack in Mothecombe. Now they are waiting for the HRU to come looking for them since they escaped the McKillan pack as “traitors.” They know that Isaac’s place will be searched since they took refuge there in the last book. But holy smokes, it’s a damn waiting game!

While they’re all waiting, Michael and Isaac go back and forth about their feelings since they were lovers in the past but never went through with bonding. There’s a short naked scene, but it’s mostly everyone waiting around for the next thing to happen. (I wish I could insert a bored, waiting gif here) Even when the HRU does show up, it’s still boring.

I really wish Ms. Jacobs had continued this series in Logan and Cole’s POVs. While I liked Isaac and Michael, I never cared about them enough to want to be invested in their relationship. I wanted to hear how Logan and Cole were doing with their bond and see them helping the Alphas toward the goal of the united shifter/human government. We got nothing from them. I also got confused several times about whose POV I was reading. Michael and Isaac didn’t feel like distinct characters.

Despite not being invested in Michael and Isaac, I didn’t start skimming until their full-on sex scene (65%). I had no interest in reading it, or any of their subsequent trysts. All the sexy times I yearned for with Logan and Cole were now being played out with two characters I didn’t care about. I hated that.

The meat of the story, the true “uprising” that the title promises, doesn’t start until around the 75% mark. THAT’S when this story became enjoyable for me. 75%!!! That didn’t cut it for me at all!

There are a few surprises, one of which ended up disappointing me because Just one more thing for me to be upset about. This book would have been far better if all of the UST between Isaac and Michael had been left out. Yes, I wanted more sexy times in the first two books, but I understand that they didn’t fit the storyline. Now they’re put into the storyline and I don’t care about the two characters - and the sexy times STILL don’t feel like they fit. THEY’RE IN THE MIDDLE OF A WAR! 🙄 I wish those sexy times had been for Logan and Cole.

Overall, this was an extremely disappointing end to this trilogy. I liked the last 25% or so, but that’s not enough to warrant a good ending for me, even if good things did happen. The first two books in this trilogy were excellent, and I completely recommend them, but I wish I’d skipped this one.

UPRISING is the third book in the Rebellion series, and I think this is the last. The story is wrapped up nicely, giving me exactly the ending I was looking for.

This book focuses on Michael and Isaac, the two enigmatic Alphas from packs seemingly on opposite sides of the war, but looks can be deceiving as we find out. Isaac and Michael were as close as two wolves could be without being bonded. When they decided what they were going to do, it placed them miles apart - both figuratively and literally. Now events have brought them back together, but can they pick up where they left off?

Uprising starts where Defiance finished and the whole host of characters return, including those you love to hate. Some will shock you though, and some you will end up feeling sympathy for. Don't you just love it when an author does that to you?

Just as full of action as the previous two, you get the bigger picture in this as groups start working together. If there was one character I wish I'd heard more from, it would be Baker, but it wasn't his book!

A brilliant end to a fantastic series and absolutely recommended by me, so long as you read it as a series and don't miss out on any of the good bits.

A great conclusion to the Rebellion series. Michael and Issac get there happily ever after but not without conflict. The book is romantic, with some angst, intense moments, action-packed and I enjoyed it from start to finish.

WOW. WHAT A RIDE. I can’t say enough how terrific this story - this ENTIRE SERIES - truly is. I was captivated by the action and intensity throughout this book whether it was an act of deception, the fierce clash of battle or a steamy stolen moment. All of it will leave you breathless and wanting more.

The fictional Britain of the Rebellion series is remarkable; humans and shifters live side-by-side in a tense existence rife with complications and a lop-sided power dynamic. I’m sure it comes as no surprise that the shifters hold all the cards, however, the time for change has arrived. Some of the very people whose rebellion resulted in a shifter-centric government and society are planning a second attempt to set things right. Will they be strong enough to overtake the radical thinking of power-hungry, rogue shifters? More importantly, how can they convince anyone to trust them to get it right this time?

The third installment in this series takes a departure from its previous focus on Cole & Logan, whose story arc wrapped up in Book Two. While they’re still on the scene, it centers largely on Alpha Michael McKillan, leader of one of the roughest packs in London. He also happens to be partially responsible for organizing the revolution to overthrow the unjust human government at the outset of the series. Getting to finally know Michael and his backstory is gratifying and brings the entire series full circle.

Aside from the shifter action and drama, as well as the threat of war, the romance in this one is really well done. Again, Annabelle Jacobs manages a delicate, perfect balance between drama and romance, and the relationship between Michael & Isaac is refreshing and at times surprising. I say this because, while there is some low-key angst, I never had any doubt about what they meant to each other. Their reunion after a long five years of fighting the good fight and working in support of the CEG is emotional and heart wrenching - I felt it deep in my soul. The threat of being torn apart again by the looming conflict adds a major element of uncertainty. Can they balance a love so pure it never wavers with the demands of pack and responsibility? Will they even live to find out? So many questions that will have you turning page after page to see how it all plays out.

For those of you who've already read Uprising, can we talk about Paul for a minute? I didn't see that coming. Not by a mile. I think I'm still in shock.

This series has already proven itself to be high-stakes and adrenaline-inducing, but Michael and Isaac's heart pounding race to stop the Shifter Alliance Party took things to a whole new level. After such an unexpected reveal at the end of the last book, I was very interested in learning more about Michael. He ended up being so different from the ruthless pack alpha I'd expected, and his long-buried feelings for Isaac were a welcome distraction from the otherwise very tense and anxiety-inducing storyline. Their chemistry was electric, and I was torn between being disappointed that they didn't immediately pounce on each other and secretly revelling in the UST that radiated from them like a beacon any time they were in close proximity. As leaders of the CEG, Isaac and Michael had a ton of moving pieces to juggle throughout this story, and naturally that didn't leave much time for sneaky moments together. Every stolen kiss and conversation felt like something to be treasured, and despite their hesitation after spending five years apart, I felt the depth of their love as if it were brand new. Outside of the romance, I thoroughly enjoyed the pacing of the overall storyline. The buildup of tension, careful maneuvering of allies, and climactic final battle were intensely riveting, and to say I was on the edge of my seat feels like an understatement. On more than one occasion I found myself questioning where key characters' loyalties lay, and not even Michael and Isaac's careful planning could have prepared them for how truly evil Simon's intentions were. After experiencing how corrupt some factions of the shifters were through Logan and Cole's eyes, it was incredibly satisfying to see the CEG emerge victorious, and the fact that Isaac and Michael ended up together was just icing on top.

Howlingly brilliant

I am going to miss these fantastic shifters. Well…some of them, some I won’t miss at all. I’ve bonded—in my own way, sadly still not a shifter—to them and have loved seeing them find found family in new and old friendships, fall in angsty, swoony love, and fight their way through the end. There’s just something about a good second-chance romance that hits me in the feels, and Michael’s and Issac’s is amazing. It’s got pining, yummy UST—ah those possessive shifters and their smells—nail-biting suspense, emotional upheavals, and a love that you’d fight the world for. “‘We might be different people, Michael, but the fact is . . .’ He backed Michael into the door, caging him with his arms, and ran his nose up the column of his throat, inhaling the strong scent that would always feel like home. ‘You’re still mine.’” Mhmm and more please! Though Isaac and Michael are sizzling sexy, what I really enjoyed the most out of this series, and especially in this conclusion, is how multifaceted everything is. No matter the side, there are always nuances, and each character is so multidimensional that even if you don’t like them you still can hurt for them. The more you learn, the more you feel, and I loved every single part of it. An incredible ending to a superbly intense series, but I’m going to keep hoping that we will see them again.

Michael had spent the past five years as the alpha of one of the largest packs in London. Responsible for monitoring and suppressing human resistance, he had to do things he never thought he would do, even though he had founded the resistance group working against the current government. Now he is on the run and heads for the only safe haven he can think of. It turns out when Michael went to London, he took Isaac’s heart with him. Back with him, the two find their old feelings surface but now life is more dangerous and neither is sure they would survive is something happened to the other. Both men are afraid to take too many chances for fear of losing their hearts again.

What a roller coaster this third book turned out to be. With changes of heart, betrayals, surprise twists, and torture, the action never stops. Both Isaac and Michael are, in many ways, the epitome of heroes. They gave up their personal wants and needs for the welfare of others. What they suffered as a result is unimaginable. There are some truly evil individuals fighting against them, but there are others who come to see what is happening is wrong. The third book of Rebellion has everything you could want, including second chances, and lots of suspense. Annabelle Jacobs has become one of my favorite authors.

Annabelle Jacobs’ Uprising is the final book in her Rebellion urban fantasy romance trilogy. This is a continuing storyline so you need to read these books in order. This story shifts its focus away from Cole and Logan, instead focusing on Michael McKillan, alpha of the McKillan pack, and Isaac Mothecombe, alpha of the Mothecombe pack. The events in this story overlap to some extent with the end of Defiance.

Michael and Isaac have a history - they are long-lost loves/mates who have resigned themselves to living apart. But circumstances bring them together again and a lot has changed, calling into question what they mean to each other and what a potential future could look like if they allow it. Michael in particular struggles under the weight of guilt for despicable actions he took when he felt he had no choice. Ms. Jacobs presents a complicated character portrait that’s fascinating to explore. As with previous books in this series, there are unexpected and extremely effective plot twists. All in all, this book brings an excellent series to a strong close. Highly recommend.

This is the Rebellion series’ third book and it draws together so many plot threads in really rewarding ways. Definitely start with previous books in the series, if you haven’t already, and the story is developed throughout (and you don’t want to miss a moment anyway, believe me). Here, the focus shifts to Michael and Isaac, the two pack alphas whose relationship turns out to be much more nuanced– in unexpected ways– than previous books might lead you to expect. I loved the balance of action and character development: the author has a gift for making characters that you either hate to love or love to hate, as well as more sympathetic and relatable characters too. This installment of the series offers all of the things that made the previous books so compelling too: solid plot development, nuanced characters, and a balance of chemistry, action, and world building that’s hard to beat.

5 Stars!!!

We met Isaac in the last part of Defiance and it was obvious he and Michael had some history together. In Uprising, we not only get their story but the conclusion to the series through Michael and Isaac's perspective.

This book had a perfect balance of plot, twists, and a second-chance romance filled with longing, wistful looks and touches, and a whole lot of UST.

I loved Isaac and Michael and how well they complemented each other, how even if 5 years had passed since they saw each other and everything that happened before, it all fell away when Michael came to Isaac for help. They had amazing chemistry and I just adored them together.

Add to this an unexpected ally, and a lot of twists and turns, and you have a fantastic action-packed, fast-paced conclusion to an amazing series, one that I can't recommend enough.

The conclusion to “Rebellion” series that tied up all loose-ends and put an end to all sort of tortures (though there were still a few happening on here). UPRISING centered on the pair of Alphas that were separated for years due to necessity and circumstances. As the culmination of events from previous installments, this book is less intense with even pace that galloping in fast in a blink of an eye. Hat-off to Jacobs for dropping twist into the plot from unlikely source (though I dearly wish the change of heart so-to-speak could be glimpsed a bit instead of only told as an aside).

Uprising is a terrific conclusion to the Rebellion series.
It draws together so many plot threads in really rewarding ways.
The focus is on Michael and Isaac, two pack alphas with a long history. Can this be the second chance they both crave?
Uprising starts where Defiance finished and the whole host of characters return.
Full of action you will not be able to put this book down.
This will certainly be a series I revisit again.

There are lots of lovers to enemies to lovers again stories, but this one takes the really interesting twist with the story of Michael and Isaac to make them lovers who now have to be comrades in the rebellion. They have to work together to win their fight, but there is the angst of all the old feelings of love and heartbreak right under the surface and coloring all their interactions. You'll root for these two to win all their battles, especially those of the heart.

He had lost him once and he is not sure he would survive losing them again. They have reappeared after being accused of being a traitor and he still feels strong feelings for them. He is not so,sure he wants to risk his heart again especially since their pack is after them. How will it all go? Can he risk his heart again? How will it all go? See how it will go

I love a story that has a good fight in it for the right. And add in a couple who have been separated not by want but by necessity. Just a great read. I really liked Isaac and Michael’s story. Along with their story, there was lots to enjoy with all the rest of the pack members. I really enjoyed this hot, sexy, fast-paced book and definitely recommend it!

Was all tied up a little too neatly. It wasn’t explained how they managed to overcome soooo many other packs in just one night and a few other niggly things. But I’ll suspend disbelief (obviously lol) and enjoy the end of this series.

Hot, exciting read, and an excellent finish to this trio of stories. While this author has a few quirks that might bug me occasionally, her tales keep me engaged, and she's one of the few MM authors who don't think come should be three-letter, low-rent smut.
