This book was a mistake. Don't read this book. I would rate this negative 100 stars if I could. This was one of the worst reads I had this year. I didn't even want to acknowledge the existence of this book with a review, but after a lot of thought, I decided it was only right to warn people about it. I used to not add books that had unpalatable content to my shelves, but I always felt uncomfortable thinking that so many people might read those books because they had no one to warn them. I don't want to have books with that kind of content on my read shelf. But at the same time I also feel that if I know that something is wrong, then it's my responsibility to warn people against it and stand up for what's right. I feel like that's what God would want me to do, too. Especially because this book's intended audience is teens and young adults, I felt it necessary to take a stand.
The fact that some people actually gave this book a good review is beyond me. *gags* I can't find one good thing about it. Even if you don't agree with my views, the fact remains that the writing and story-telling skills are absolutely horrible.
I can't believe anyone would expose such loathsome, vile, scandalous content to their readers. It's shameful. No person in their right mind should want to read this, and no kid should ever even read this stuff. This story should never have seen the light of day.

The characters are all sensual and horrible and only care about people's outward appearances and seem to have nothing at all in their hearts or brains. The MC was terrible and odious and inordinately immature. I'm the same age as her, so you can't say I just don't get it. I can't believe how disgustingly immature the characters are.
From the very start of the book, you get LGBTQ elements, underage sex (and they do it secretly), and every bit of lustful pursuit.
This type of book should never be published. It teaches kids all the wrong things. What was the author thinking to put such content in a YA book? The world is already much too full of immorality and the mindset of sensuality without someone publishing a book like this. There is no lesson or moral in this story. Everything is just about the teens' lust for sex. It made me sick.

The writing is really, REALLY bad. Awkward sentences, choppy, totally unpolished. The dialogue is also very lame.
The characters are ridiculous. The MC is unbelievably immature. Ever wanted to read what an elementary school kid thinks about sex, and read about her trying to have sex? That's what you'll get here. Cameron is 17 but her character comes off like a 10 year old. Who wants to have sex. It was as cringey as you'd think that would be NO THANK YOU.

Awesome book!!!
This was a really great book. I could not put it down. The author knows how to keep your interest and the intense heat of the story will definitely keep you turning pages. You have two teenagers that start out as friends but turns into more. You will definitely want to read this book!!!!

I gotta admit when I first saw this book I wasn't interested but end up going back to it on the same day and picking it up but to only put it down then today I picked it up today to try it again but glad I did I couldn't put it down. I don't usually read books where a girl falls in love with her brother's best friend it's rare but I enjoyed this book. The humor is pretty good and well written. I'll be checking out more books from this author.

This book is incredibly frustrating. The world build at the beginning is dry, and full of contradictions. Comments like "Jake has blue eyes. I haven't noticed he has blue eyes, I've been told he has blue eyes. So I checked, and he has blue eyes." I don't even feel I'm paraphrasing this. I think there are other, better ways to include this in the storyline to build the character of Cameron, and Jake, and maybe other characters, without repeating so much. Like:
Cameron cheered as she beat Kyle again at the fighting game they were playing. Kyle sipped from a can of diet coke, and made an attempt to change the subject away from Cameron's victory.
"I overheard Madison earlier. She was talking non-stop about Jake, and how he has the bluest eyes. He does, but ugh, like I wanted to hear it from her, you know?"
Cameron stopped pumping her fist in celebration, and looked at Kyle as though he'd grown a second head. He smirked behind his coke can. Mission accomplished.
I just referenced some other characters in there, by the way.
The pacing in the story was awful. Each new scene would come out of the blue, and then need a lot of explaining before the story could move forward. Sometimes, this meant that I didn't know when the memory ended. Some events came out of the blue, like the Jason subplot or the information about Cameron and Connor's mother. I couldn't keep a grasp of the timeline, the majority of the plot occurred in a matter of weeks, but then suddenly they were graduating, and then getting married after college? It would have been better to divide that section up and make the wedding an epilogue with the chance to reminisce.
It feels very much like this book is more a collection of scenes taped together with rough notes. It has some potential for a decent New Adult book (coincidentally, I found this in the teen section of Amazon's Kindle Unlimited) but it really needs editing, fleshing out, and maybe some rejigging of the plotline.

So sweet
So sweet. A YA romance with all the feels and a HEA. Loved how clueless Cam was and following her awakening.
If you want an adorable read, this is highly recommendable.

Tomboy is the story of Cameron, better known as Cam, the girl who has always been 'one of the boys'. The only person who hasn't seen her as that is her brother's best friend, Jake. As she gets older she also begins to see him in a new light.
I loved the characters in this story, Cam was quite a strong character in her own, not falling into the girly role even after developing a romantic interest like a lot of tomboys in stories do. She just develops hormones and grows up, and Jake is an adorable character who likes her for that reason. I also liked the other characters such as her best friend and her brother.
Some parts of this story, especially dialogue, didn't seem to flow very easily in my opinion. Sarah Sampino does a great job of it however and really gets inside the mind of the characters, making it a really easy story to listen to.
I'd really recommend this to teenage romance fans. It's great for young adults and a nice easy read.

She just didn't understand what the whole thing was so talked about. Her bf was gay. He was fun to read. Her brother's best friend was always around. But things between them changed when she catches him in her bed with another female. Her awareness changes. How, who and when is the story line. She was a tomboy who now wants to know more about the opposite sex. This will be in my fav album to re-read.

Suzana - don't kill me, please? I've seen you grow from where you started. This is a story that pre-dates when I first started reading your work. I will do a list of what I liked, and didn't like.
Liked:
- Favourable portrayal of a gay person. It was the best thing, honestly. Nothing irritates me more than when authors camp up a character, just because he's "gay." You know the type. Puts a hand on his hip, and taps his foot. Says "fabulous!" and "darling!" all the time. In fact, I was highly appreciative when Kyle plays into this stereotype whilst out on a shopping trip, as a mock irony kind of thing.
- The writing. Sure, it had editorial issues throughout. Hell, even the first line of the first page had an editorial issue. Luckily, it wasn't too prevalent and it was easy to breeze through and I think the number was under 50 (possibly 25 - I didn't count.)
-Cameron. They way she defended Kyle against Chad (yeah, he deserved that punch!), and got all the boys to still see him the same when he "came out" made her character shine.
What I didn't favour so much:
- Jake claims to be in "love" with Cameron all his life. In fact, we see it through various flashbacks (sometimes not blended in, it was kind of abrupt at times - I didn't know if I was in flashback or present time) but has sex with Meredith on CAMERON'S bed. Twice. That is not the action of a man in love. That is the action of a dick. Which is fine, but whenever "Jake" was saying how in love he was with her, I wasn't buying it.
- Cameron....oh, Cameron. In fact, she started out kinda cool. Very tomboy-like, and that scene where she watches a porno with Kyle is one of the best, seriously. I can picture her as one of the lads. As the story went on though, it became blatantly clear she was clueless in many areas of her life. When Jake had to tell her there was blood on the sheets because she was a virgin (purely the fact that he thought she didn't know that was too much.)
- Cameron treats sex like a scientific project. She analyses it. Dissects it. When she kissed Jake, and kept wanting to have sex with him, it sill seemed like a scientific project. Which is fine. But it felt like that to the very end. The ending was rushed.
-The name 'Connor' and 'Conner' used interchangeably.
Overall, the thing that most impressed me in this book was how supportive Cameron was of Kyle, and the representation that not all gay people are camp. The author went against stereotype, and actually used the stereotype to mock against it, which I think is awesome. If you have ever read the House of Night series by P.C. Cast & Kristin Cast , or in particular
, the only book by them I've read - you would know the horrendous way mother & daughter stereotype gay people, almost to the point I wanted to whack both their heads.
More writers should take a leaf out of Suzana's book.
Disclaimer: Being gay and camp isn't mutually exclusive, of course and can happily co-exist together but you can tell from a mile off when a section of society is being stereotyped. Not on.

Tomboy was a great quick read by Suzana Thompson. Cameron has always been a tomboy and has been seen as one of the guys. That is to everyone except her brother's best friend, Jake. One day Cam finds him in her room trying to hook up with a girl. There chemistry sparks and they see what happens. This was a great read, I loved reading Cam and Jake's story. I can't wait to read more by Suzana Thompson.

I Really Loved this! It is a mix of all kinds of embarrassing situations, emotions and fun that occur during the adolescent to adult years without dirty details. It was enough details to know what was going on but not so detailed that you couldn't use your imagination...

Oh my god that was cool. me encanto que los diálogos de los personajes eran bastante reales y se preocupaban por cosas importantes. Me encanto el amor de toda la vida de Jake and Cam. Y fue una historia como lo que estaba buscando cuando empece el libro.

*FINALLY* A book with an ending. I am slowly reading all of these because who doesn't love a good, cheesy, teen romance novel? This was the first that I felt complete after reading because there was a legit ending.

Suzana Thompson does an excellent job of capturing the coming of age emotions in Tomboy. Cam has always one of the guys but little does she know her twin brother's best friend, Jake, has more than friendly feelings for her. Sparks fly when she catches Jake in a compromising position in her room. As a tomboy, romance and all the trappings of being a girl have never appealed to Cam. Her parents' divorce and her absent father color her reaction to relationships but her mother is still hopeful for a lifelong love. While Jake has been waiting his entire life for Cam to be on the same page, the young man is what all mature book boyfriends should aspire to be: patient, romantic, possessive, loving, and passionate. While the road is sometimes rocky on the way to their relationship, Cam and Jake's story ends in a very satisfying way.
Ms. Thompson capture's Cam's tomboy traits well, I grew up as one so I could relate to her character, and being blindsided by a friend who has romantic feeling? She hit that shocker dead on, as well as the drama of the high school friends and the catty girls who try to break up couples. Ms. Thompson's characters are realistic, the situations real life and the story well paced. There are great family moments with the mom, great banter between the siblings, and with the couple. I'd definitely read more by this author.
The audio version is an enjoyable listen.

Cameron (“Cam”) is 17 years old, athletic and not a typical girl interested in makeup and boyfriends. Instead, she hangs around her twin brother, Connor, and his friends are her friends having all grown up together. As the guys talk about girls, she wanders into the kitchen and sees Jake, her brother’s best friend. He told her then that he is amazed the others don’t “see” her. When she says they see her all the time, he acknowledges she is still a kid, but he is willing to wait for her. She doesn’t understand what he means, though.
When an incident happens that draws Cam’s attention to Jake, she begins to see him differently and wonder why she feels unsettled now. She doesn’t interpret his getting-on-her-last-nerve as jealousy. Cameron is a tomboy, like sports and most of her friends are boys. When her twin brother's best friend Jake is caught in her bedroom with another girl, she becomes annoyed, but is it because he was in her bed? Or is it because it wasn't her? This is sweet story of growing up, self realization and figuring out who you really are. I enjoyed Cam as she matured and realized what life would have in store for her. Her journey is one that I found easily relatable, and I fell back into that time of insecurity as a teen. With his family life and his mature outlook, Jake is more complex than I expected. Together, we get a little teenage angst and enjoy watching their relationship grow as they get older. Breakout character is Kyle, Cam's best friend. What a great personality he brings in!
Sarah Sampino's performance of Tomboy is wonderful. I love her voice. She easily modeled her characters with that teen angst using voices that were a good fit for the age of Cam and Jake. I like her pace and style of narration, giving my ears hours of enjoyment.

The narrator did a good job; it was a good listening experience.
Overall, I enjoyed this story, but it is a bit frustrating in the beginning. Cameron is a very young 17 and is finally realizing that guys exist and she’s attracted to them; especially her brother’s best friend, Jake. She is very un-self aware and her common sense isn’t the best. She does grow throughout the story though; she’s just on the extreme side of “tomboy”. Jake really sucks in the beginning. He hooks up with another girl in Cameron’s room, but he supposedly wants Cameron. Stupid boy! So, I get how Cameron doesn’t feel she can trust his intentions. Jake being a moron happens towards the beginning and he does show his feelings, so in the end, I liked him. The romance is sweet and they have good chemistry. So, the characters are young and still immature, but they got better as the story progressed, so I enjoyed this story. The writing isn’t amazing, but it’s a decent story. I would’ve even loved a bit more in the ending; what was there is good, but a little more would’ve been great!
Overall, I enjoyed this story, but it is a bit frustrating in the beginning. Cameron is a very young 17 and is finally realizing that guys exist and she’s attracted to them; especially her brother’s best friend, Jake. She is very un-self aware and her common sense isn’t the best. She does grow throughout the story though; she’s just on the extreme side of “tomboy”. Jake really sucks in the beginning. He hooks up with another girl in Cameron’s room, but he supposedly wants Cameron. Stupid boy! So, I get how Cameron doesn’t feel she can trust his intentions. Jake being a moron happens towards the beginning and he does show his feelings, so in the end, I liked him. The romance is sweet and they have good chemistry. So, the characters are young and still immature, but they got better as the story progressed, so I enjoyed this story. The writing isn’t amazing, but it’s a decent story. I would’ve even loved a bit more in the ending; what was there is good, but a little more would’ve been great!
