Levi Walker reached Taryl after a real bad day at college. An angry walk in the rain led to Truck-Kun and a quick trip to reincarnation. If dying wasn't bad enough, Levi wasn't off the hook for his higher education.

Reborn on Taryl and sent to the Academy, Levi is expected to learn how to wield powerful magics. A glitch in the Reincarnation Network has left him with a new body and no idea what’s going on. He’s been told he has great magical potential, but no one is sure what kind.

Now Levi has to accept magic is real, mana vapor makes airships fly and “Horrors” from another dimension feed on unsuspecting victims. If that’s not bad enough, he still has to do homework.

Fortunately, Levi has always been a quick study.

Began gaming at the age of 8 and explored a lot of different ways to play table top. When I got older, I experimented with MMOs and found a few I really liked. My first job was mowing lawns as a young teen, and I worked to use the money to pay for fantasy series like DragonLance, Dark Sun, and Forgotten Realms. As soon as I discovered LitRPG I knew I wanted to incorporate it into my writing.

Aside from taking care of my sons as a single father, writing is what I love to do most. I hope you all enjoy my work.

This one started out okay and ended up pretty good. The story isn't original and the author probably needed to work on the world building a little more but it turned out okay. The MC is hit by a truck on his world and is reincarnated on another world with magical powers. He is then put in school to learn about his magic. The reason I mentioned that there should be a little more world building is that the day after he arrived to a new world in a new (non human) body, he is in class learning about geography. There needs to be more than that in the introduction. Why am I supposed to go to school? What is the purpose? What happens after school? What if I don't want any of this? How am I going to live my life and pay for things? Why am I not human? What does it mean with my new race? Those are all the things I would want answered and they weren't. School is the standard stuff. A bunch of hot girls, some bully's, some racists, etc. The MC turns out to have more power than most but there are 2 parts to his power Overall a pretty good listen. I am looking forward to the next one.

Not spectacular, but better than I feared it might be. Scores an honest 4 for entertainment value, and I've already queued up the second book to read.

This is a solid start.

It has a good story, does not mean to heavily on "acadamy" tropes, and has a realistic feel to the relationships. The antagonists are obvious, but they are not central to the story, so that is fine. I look forward to more.

Levi Walker was just a regular college student until a hilariously uncomfortable encounter with his roommate led him to storm out of his dorm—straight into the path of a delivery truck.

And well, all anime fans know what happens when you meet Truck-kun.

Now he's been reincarnated with magical powers at Otherworld Academy in the land of Taryl, where he and other magic-wielding students from other dimensions must harness their abilities to fight off the monstrous Horrors that threaten all their worlds. It's a jarring transition to make …

But then, all the sexy girls at his new school make it a whole lot easier.

I knew I was going to like Deacon Frost’s Raven House (Otherworld Academy #1) the moment I saw Truck-kun named in the blurb. Truck-kun is not an actual character in the book, beyond its pivotal appearance in the first scene, but any author who can name one of the most iconic trucks in all of anime obviously knows their isekai tropes.

That said, if you like isekai adventures, you're in for a fun ride.

Otherworld Academy reads like the glorious product of a drunken late-night con chat between authors where one asked "What if Harry Potter got isekai'd off to a sexy steampunk college and also discovered he was really into Pokemon and also collecting girls?" It's more Harry Potter than Pokemon, given its magic boarding school setting and cross-dimensional high stakes, but when it's revealed that reincarnated Levi has a talent for monster taming and gets a set of magic items that are basically steampunk Pokeballs, the monster collecting nerd in me squealed a little bit. (Okay, a lot.)

It's a harem book, so naturally Levi collects ladies as enthusiastically as he does monsters, but it stands out from other harem books in that its women contribute something other than sexiness to the plot. Each helps Levi learn to master his powers and place in this world in their own (not even necessarily sexy) ways, and eventually he discovers a legitimate reason why he should pair up with multiple women (relating to the mechanics of his magic).

On the spicy end, there's plenty of spice, and it's hot—but the characters and world are so well-defined that honestly it could stand on its own without the spicy scenes. (And they are mostly skippable for people who want story over sex.)

To be honest, while the spice is great, the world and characters are where Raven House excels. Its approach to magic is interesting and twofold; mana in this setting can be processed into vapor and burned in a way that effectively turns it into fuel, and the magitek nerd in me enjoyed reading about the intricacies of this process. People, of course, have access to magic, too, and since everyone at this school is from a different dimension with different magical practices, there are a wide variety of ways for students to harness their magic, which makes for cool, eclectic battle scenes, especially toward the end.

In terms of the world itself, we don't get much of a look into the other dimensions in this book—this volume is largely the story of Levi getting used to his new world—but some details here and there, and especially the climactic conflict of the book, hint at a complex array of interdimensional politics and problems just waiting to spill onto Academy grounds in future books.

Levi himself is a likable and relatable protagonist, fascinated by his new abilities and body while being reasonably frustrated by the practical things he now has to get used to. (He had good eyesight in his old body, for example, whereas his new body needs glasses.) Also, while he has his headstrong moments, he's never audacious enough to be outright stupid, and mostly uses his power to stick up for his motley band of friends when bullies from other houses come to pick at them. (Otherworld Academy divides its students into magically-themed houses, Hogwarts-style.) He’s also noble enough to stick up for redeemable enemies once he learns more about their situations, though the absolute baddies get knocked on their asses when they deserve it. Cupcake-obsessed elf Nox Willowbrook makes for a fun companion, both in magic and … other things, and dark elf house mistress Tawny Goldenrod makes for a ferocious presence, both on the battlefield and … elsewhere. Another notable character is Glint Scrim, a swamp imp and vapor engineer who’s such a nerd for his subject matter that his enthusiasm is absolutely infectious (and one of the reasons why the magic systems come across so well).

Of all the characters, though, Zuzan is best girl.

Overall, if you’re looking for a fun, magical academy adventure with a steampunk vibe and steamier sex, Raven House (Otherworld Academy #1) is a great place to start.

“Raven House” by Deacon Frost is a super-fun magical academy haremlit story that I can only describe as “Steamy Times at Sexy Hogwarts.”

The story starts out as a by-the-book isekai, complete with death-by-Truck-kun and awakening in a new world with strange new powers. But “Raven House” immediately rises above its tropes with its cast of likable, well-developed characters and in-depth world building. As soon as you meet our hero Levi, you are invested in both his struggles and his snuggles, as he explores his new life and meets a bevy of lovely classmates.

Frost did a fantastic job using the magical academy not just as a generic background, but as an integral part of the story. Levi doesn’t just flit around romancing girls and dealing with bullies. He actually has to go to class and learn things. And what he quickly learns is that he is awesome at beast taming. Before long, he has two companion animals in the form of a sassy squirrel and a dragonet with a mysterious secret.

As someone who doesn’t care for the overpowered protagonist trope, I loved how Levi is gifted with powers that are far above average, but struggles to wield them. This delivers on the readers’ desire to see a kick-ass hero, but also one who isn’t boringly invincible. Levi must work hard to correct his mistakes and learn from them, while still growing in knowledge and strength, which is nice.

Also nice is the way that not every attractive woman in the story throws herself at our hero. Levi slowly builds his harem, and takes the time to build genuine relationships that the reader cares about. And not just with his girls. It’s always refreshing to see an MC in this genre who has friends outside of the harem, and develops genuine, non-sexual friendships.

I absolutely loved the steampunk-style worldbuilding. The combination of magic and old-timey technology is exactly what I want in a fantasy story. Overall, “Raven House” is a fun, action-packed adventure that leaves readers wanting more. The unanswered questions and potential for character growth make it a must-read for any lover of academy or steampunk haremlit.

At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review.

Genre: Isekai harem where MC is transported to a wizard school with houses

Power dynamics in harem: The MC is in charge, the girls are fully dedicated to him.
Explicit/adult material: Explicit. Well written. Does not go deep in exotic kinks.

Summary:
Levi is having a terrible day. And then a bus hits him and he dies. To his surprise he wakes up. And to his further surprise he has been reincarnated in a new body in a wizard school.
Levi shows early talent for beast taming and soon has a few magical beasts of his own. His powers and good heart are extraordinary so he catches the notice of a few beautiful female wizards at the school and before long he finds himself in the center of a devoted harem.

Narrators
Voice diversity: Characters have their own easily followed voices.
Pacing and intonation: The best part. Pacing and intonation supports the writing perfectly and emerges you completely in the story.
Sex scenes: Well done.
Jonathan Waters and Katana Jones are expert narrators and it shows.
Overall: 4,5 / 5 stars.

The book’s strengths.
- I am a sucker for pets. They are used well, have personalities and are important characters. I can't wait to see how they grow.
- I enjoy the magic school setting. And it is well done here. With small references to popularly known schools, but largely doing it's own thing.
- I love the hints at politics in the world at large.
- The narration

The book’s weaknesses.
- I would love even more focus diverted to flesh out the personalities of the girls. They are not as flat as they can be in some stories, but the meatier the better.

Overall: 4.5/5 stars

Much of Raven House is similar to the many other Academy novels that abound in haremlit these days, and I initially thought this would be a generic story worth 3 or 4 stars. Well, so much for first impressions….give this book a chance - it grew on me and ultimately I’m surprised to realize that it earned 5* from me.

Much of the audiobook shines because of the fantastic narration; while Jonathon Waters does an excellent job…Katana Jones is becoming a favorite narrator!

While many elements may sound formulaic… they really work in Raven House. Yes, we have the “bully” - but how many times does the “bully” earn a “hilarious” notation? Darren manages it here! While a hot headmistress and a hot tutor may be expected….in Raven House they’re also appreciated!

All-in-all the only surprise in Raven House is how well the author delivered what could have been cookie-cutter pieces of a routine story, and instead gave us a very fun adventure! 4* for the story, with an added 1* bonus because of the narration = a 5* recommendation.

I was given this free review copy audiobook at my request and have voluntarily left this review. Receiving a review copy did not influence my rating or my review.

slow burn

First time reading a book by Frost and I must say I’m impressed. At first I must admit Levi really annoyed me 😂. Sometimes his inner monologue was immature. Maybe it’s because I’m more a go with the flow let’s do this kinda guy. Also I watch a bunch of isekai anime and I couldn’t stop laughing at Truck-Kun… I know my fellow lovers of isekai got a chuckle out of that. As the book went on though the story grips you and the world just builds and builds and stacks. It’s such an amazing world Frost has built and the characters are so three dimensional and wonderful. Darren is a piece of trash. He calls Elizabeth his mate and tries to treat her nicely but he beats her. warning there. I figured I’d drop that slight spoiler because it’s also a small trigger. It only happened once but it really made me despise a side character I already want to vaporise. 😈. So far though, Levi is building quite a nice harem. He has great taste… My man Glint lol his tastes are um…. To each his own hahahaha I also must concur with Levi when Glint eats. Man 🤢🤮I’m with you buddy. Onward to the next book!

A fun cultivation isekai

The story has a really short start would have been nice if we had a little bit more background but it's not imperative. The story has some good elements lots of action fun little bit of spicy times. We have the opportunity to learn a little bit about each of the main characters and the rivalry between the main character and his competitive nemesis. We get to see a little bit what goes on in our main character's mind but it's not overwhelming and does not take over the story. I for one plan on getting the second book I want to see what happens next it was a fun read and I hope it continues.

Just a really good book.

I am really glad I picked this up. I enjoyed the author’s previous works, but this one is my favorite by far. The premise is not original, but that is not a bad thing. The book is well written. The characters are mostly believable, the MC is not a Chad, which is a good thing. The story is interesting and the the world is interesting.

I enjoyed this book, and recommend you pick it up if you like the genre. I was sad that there was not more to read when it was over, and anticipate reading the next book in the series.

Fun read

This is a pretty good book to read. It was not a problem to get into the character as I and most of us have had to deal with people like this in school. I think this is a well written and very though thru story. It has all the drama of a new student plus a new life to deal with all in one. The subplots are just as good as any that I have seen in other storylines. Love Zuzen. Can't wait to see what Flex turns out to be when it grows up. So get your but n gear and get the new book out so we can follow our friends on their new adventures.

Alot better than I expected

Normally I pass over any magical academy type novels, most are to similar to Harry Potter for me to bother reading. This seems to be the expectation to my rule, the MC is interesting without being needy or whiny or OP. The supporting cast are well written and add value to the overall story. I really hope this series has legs without falling in the Potter tropes. Fingers crossed for book 2.

An enjoyable read

I enjoyed reading this book for the simple reason that the main character wasn’t doing well in his life. He made some not so wise choices. Unfortunately or fortunately his last choice distracted him and landed him in adventure of a lifetime. You will have to get the book to see who he become and read about his exploits. Just be aware, there are adult situations of which you may not want to read.

Surprisingly Good

I’m typically not a fan of the “academy” style stories, but I enjoyed this story a lot more than I thought I would. It was well fleshed out, and unique enough that the typical school tropes didn’t bother me.

If I had to pick at nits, I’d wish the author would spend some more time fleshing out the side characters.

Either way, I’ll be on the look out for the next one!

Intriguing Fun Read

A fun read that had me reading it in under a day (hour wise I found it in the evening). The world building and descriptions kept it interesting and explained the things you needed to know to enjoy this dimension with it magic students. Steamy partners, bullies, and companion beasts that make you smile.

I look forward to the next installment of Otherworld Academy!

A good beginning

It was a good story, but I had some problems with how the author skipped some seemingly important info early on in the book. For instance: (SPOILER) right after we found out the MC was a tamer and was.given a new speciality class the story skips any info on the class and proceeds to push the story several months, now I do not mind gaps in a story to indicate repetition, but only after we know what is repeated in some detail.

Truck-kun murders dude, who is then reincarnated at 9th Dimension Hogwarts. Now a lizard boy and armed with his pimp cane and magic squirrel, he must battle Lovecraftian horrors and school bullies. Despite the occasional errant vocabulary word and mildly cringey dialogue, I liked this book. Love scenes were pretty mediocre and harem members were standoffish towards each other despite their provided cultural backgrounds. I am curious to continue series, though.

Very disappointing, I gave this a read as it was recommended on the harem books subreddit and I dont understand why.
The story/worldbuilding are interesting and get away without being a Harry Potter ripoff but...

The relationships/Harem content are completely underwhelming; it feels like the author is put off from writing sex scenes as they are very few in this book, they are very short and compared with Sex/NSFW only books, has very bad discriptions

4.25⭐️3.75🌶️. 18+ mature audiences only. Solid fantasy story. The variety of beings and creatures was plentiful and the world building was good. There were a few romance scenes that were detailed but felt a bit underwhelming compared to other books that I’ve read. I think it being in third person took away from all of the emotion and sultry details that are normally detailed in sex scenes of first person POVs. I do look forward to continuing this fantasy series!

Interesting

Not your normal other world reborn adventure harem book this one has bite to it, yes it has your normal protagonist but all is not as it seems and to tell you everything would do a disservice to the author, lets say fights cool women a dragon a squirrel and more fighting make a good story.
Heres to the next book lets hope it does not take to long to write .

Surprisingly Good Read

I was bored, looking for something to pass the time until the series I’m following had new installments. I happened across Raven House and thought it looked interesting. Interesting doesn’t do this work justice by half. I found it to be thoroughly enjoyable, and I just devoured it. Truly looking forward to the next installment.

Pretty decent for a light read. I enjoyed the characters and pace, and the world was somewhat unexpected. The main character is of course "super powerful" halfway through the book but less so than in other books in this genre. I liked it enough to pick up the next one on Kindle Unlimited. Kindle Unlimited is a bit too easy that way, always more books to read for no extra cost.

It's entertaining enough being another magic school story but it also falls in to the same tropes as every magic school story. Personally I'm sick of every school story having to have the same mean teachers and ineffectual bullies. It just is annoying to read when you want to continue the damn plot. Please at least make the bullies and teachers a threat.

Thoroughly enjoyable. Not too much time wasted on the MC's previous life. The MC is a powerful mostly intelligent character. He doesn't turn into a whiny, bashful adolescent when talking to females, like the majority of gamelit books out there. BIG plus. The details on magic are mostly glossed over which is a bummer. The harem details are well done.

Enjoyable story with a fairly standard magic college feel

A reincarnation isekai style story as the MC is dumped into a magic school in an all new body. Having powerful magic and taming abilities means he is not your normal student, he struggles to adapt, and makes friends and enemies. Several sex scenes are included, with the MC seemingly starting a harem. A good solid story.

Great

A great adventure novel, and a really decent introduction to this new world. Both the reader and MC learn at the same pace, and it creates an impactful progression through the story. I borrowed this from KU but purchased halfway through. Can't wait for part two!

surprise gem

In an annoyingly over saturated genre this one is pleasant surprise. Something most books in this genre do is dilute the characters or make them compliant as soon as they hover around the mc. This book builds momentum slowly and has some fun surprises. Great read

A great start

I enjoyed this more than I initially thought I would. The whole magic academy thing has been done before but the author skipped over things that were unnecessary to the story and kept the pacing of the story well balanced throughout.
