In a world downtrodden by the constant attacks by monsters, Vandal Busters give the people hope. They are the few with the power to fight the overwhelming amount of creatures who have made their own game of wiping out humanity for fun, profit, fame, or various other motivations. With the power of their holy weapons (Saiga), they fight for the future of mankind and the hope that one day the world can be at peace again.
If you are a fan of J-RPGs, especially Dragon Quest, you really owe it to yourself to pick this up. There are pot shots at grinding, the standard fare of going to a new town, buying new gear, and having to solve that town's new problems. The monsters have a very DQ feel to them, mostly because the team behind this series worked on the DQ manga as well. The villians are what makes this series worth reading. No two vandals are alike, and each "boss monster" has his or her own style, rules, powers, and reasons for doing what they do. So, if you can remember when Square and Enix were different companies, bought a Playstation for Final Fantasy 7, or even got your copy of Dragon Warrior from Nintendo Power, you should check out a few volumes of Beet.
Beet is a really good book for action, adventure and fantasy manga readers. Humans had lived normally and happily until a very distressful civilization had started attacking them and made humanity's presence on earth much more complicated. They called these monsters Vandels. But that's what vandel busters are for. They are people who defend humanity from these killing vandels. Even high ranked Busters earn a gifted weapon called saiga that can kill upperclassman vandels. Beet is just a little boy who is aware of vandels and wanted to become a vandel buster. He had no parents and no one knows what happend to them. He was taken in by a young girl named Paola and her parents. He had knew the crew of high ranked busters and they were the Zenon Warriors. They were Zenon, Alside, Laio, Cruss and Bluezam. They knew each other well. Until the Zenon warriors were attacked by a very devastating vandel named Beltorze. Beet had came and figured the situation. Beltorze had held Beet captive and the zenon warriors had to help. will they save or is this the end for the young boy? Find out on Beet the Vandel Buster!!

Reread. I was worried this wouldn't hold up, since manga based on games isn't that novel anymore. But this is still a pretty fun world full of likable characters. Apparently the artist recovered and has been continuing the series since 2016? Hope to see more volumes get localized someday!
This series was another of those that I passed on during high school, predominantly due to a lack of interest in a lot of shonen that seemed to have overly similar main characters and because the art style resembled Akira Toriyama's to a degree that bothered me. (I have a lot of love for Toriyama's work, but back then I used to have a bit of a weird hang-up where I disliked reading manga where the art style too closely resembled that of a different mangaka. Don't know why, couldn't tell you.)
I was finally encouraged to try to track down the whole series by a video on the MangaTube side of BookTube (apologies to the guy who made the video, I don't recall your name or channel,) in minor hopes that perhaps someday the remaining volumes that never got published in English may one day see an English publication release. I have some healthy doubt at this point that that will happen, but you never know.
The first chapter of this story is pretty intense. We get a vague idea of the world's monsters and "vandels", what busters are, and our main character and his motivations. The chapter is pretty intense, and the remaining chapters in this are set up for the remainder of the series. There are some additional bonus pages at the end to assist in grasping the world-building but I've opted to skip over these because I'd prefer to pick up on this organically.
Not much to say other than that I think this is a fairly chill first volume for a series.
A solid shonen fantasy/action manga--very by-the-numbers, but they're good numbers. Set in an RPG-like world, the story cleverly justifies game-world tropes like levelling up and getting money for monster slaying within the series; interestingly, the boss monsters are "playing" too, through their experience is something more akin to Ogre Battle or Civilization as they purchase and marshall their minion hordes. The Vandels are varied and fascinating villains with diverse quirks, motivations, and strategies; Grineed, a conflicted Vandel who desperately wants to be a suave, cool-headed villain but is prone to fits of rage, is an especially interesting antagonist.
Sadly, this series was abandoned mid-story and will likely never be continued; be prepared for frustration if you pick it up. The skilled plot setup and detailed world-building of the first dozen volumes only make the permanently unfinished story more painful.
Beet wants to be a Vandal Buster and end the war of monsters preying on mankind. But he is just an overzealous kid that no one takes seriously. When a group of legendary busters die protecting him, Beet is given a gift that will set him apart. Years later he returns from his training to save his friends. But he still is not content to live in the world as it is. He is just naïve enough to believe he can change everything. And with the right kind of luck…maybe he can. A fun quick read that will appeal to readers of manga…and others who like quick pictorial adventures. Beet’s ultimate hope and confidence speak of one who hasn’t let the troubles or realities of life stop him from dreaming. Looking forward to reading beyond book one in the future.
A young boy (Beet) wants to fight monsters, but is inadvertently responsible for the death of a group of monster fighters. They pass their life force (and weapons) on to Beet, who then takes up their mantle. This manga manages, while yet another "fantasy monster fighting" manga, manages to be cute and quirky enough to tweak your interest.
Vandels - terrible monsters scouring the globe - are constantly being hunted down by Busters, and Beet is about to join the ranks with his own dreams of adventure, starting with protecting a town on the verge of being overrun by deons! Sanjo begins a fun and exciting adventure with this enticing entry. Will the magic of the Saiga weapons be enough to give Beet the power to Bust?
I hate animie, I loved reading this series in the 8th grade though. It was adventurous and the illustration was cool and imaginative just like the story line. Would I suggest it for anyone over the age of 20? No.
This book is a great book set in the distant future, when creatures known as vandels have the power to wipeout whole countries, and the only people who can protect the people of the future are the vandel busters. It is a great book when it comes to plot and an amazing start to an incredible series.
I like this book so far... it is a very interesting storyline. Beet is about 13 years old now and after 3 years he is back to the village where he has seen his older brother mutilated by a Vandel. His brother was a vandel buster so now he has become one. He is very strong for his age and level.
