When Rae’s friend helps secure her summer employment at the Cliffs, Rae willingly accepts. She quickly learns that there’s more to the Cliffs, particularly the hidden world of those the country club employs.

The world of the elite and those who serve them are not to cross. What will that mean for Rae and the handsome blue-eyed college student who makes her swoon?

Aleatha sets her hooks so deep with series of astonishing surprises, my stomach had a tight knot from first page to the last. I couldn't put it down and read and finished it in one sitting, Late into the night.
This book grips you from the discovery of the first victim to the final one. Outstanding writing and characterization.

description

Even though there's multitudes of them from Bernie Maze to Turners to Sarah. They all contribute towards the entangled mystery. The best part is everything unfolds right in front of your eyes which built up to a heart pounding pace that continued to increase in the last quarter of the book. Yet you still are left with a hanging jaw and thumping nerves.

" the edge was the precipice where a person must make a decision—step back or go over. It wasn’t that every cliff was like the ones on the seaside near Woodland. The way she described it, the edge was meant to be breached".

description

Many a times the story balances On The Edge and the next sequences pushes it over it.
Aleatha has a wonderful ability to make you feel as if you were right there watching the events unfold in this fast paced and nail biting thriller and this is exactly how to describe this fantastic mystery.
Not only was the story line exceptional, it was so descriptive that you could picture what you were reading, as if you were watching it on television or in the movies, Infact it SHOULD be optioned for a movie!!

description

"The metaphorical edge was what made me hard. Fear was such an enticing emotion. It crackled like lightning in their eyes, emanated in a sweet scent from their pores, and propelled their actions. It was a stimulus that demanded obedience, a threat that punished defiance, and a promise that lingered beneath the surface, keeping them on edge. "

description

Mindblowing crime drama with lots of edges to stand over pondering, do I go straight or take the path towards the beach where the danger lies.
3 cheers for Aleatha, ye of Devious mind!!

On the Edge was enjoyable. The storyline was interesting, complex but not too complex, and had enough twists and turns to keep the momentum. The main characters were good, could have been a little more attraction happening between them. Its well-written and fast-paced narrative make it an amazing read.

With that ending I am hoping there is more to come!
This story had me from the first page until the very last, but the crazy ending leaves so many options open that I am hoping and praying that Aleatha takes this Country Club and all of the antics that play out here even further because just one book isn't enough to satisfy my need for more.

Have you read Aleatha's story in the Nightingale: An Anthology for Ukraine called Gravity? If you have then Woodland Cliffs Country Club will be familiar to you because it's where Adelaide and Oren were married. It's a beautiful place for the rich to spend time socializing with their peers. But during this time period there seems to be a series of deaths occurring around the property.

Rae Watson needs a summer job so she takes a position at Woodland Cliffs Country Club with the hopes that she will make enough money over the summer so that she can concentrate on her studies during her senior year. What Rae didn't realize when she agreed to take the position was that the guy she liked was a member...and that means there is a big difference in the two of them.

Okay, so there is a lot going on in this book. Not only do we have the budding romance between Rae and Frankie but we also have women turning up dead along the property of Woodland Cliffs. No one, and I mean no one is above suspicion so we have plenty of twists and turns throughout the book, you follow along thinking you know everything then a curve ball is thrown and you go with it to see where it's going to take you and let me tell you it takes you on an unbelievable ride that you won't want to get off of. I loved every minute of this book...even the crazy ending, which I am hoping will be built upon in the near future. This is a standalone but that doesn't mean that Ms. Romig doesn't have plans for some of the characters in future series and please, please, please let that be true!

I would recommend this book to everyone that enjoys Romantic Suspense, Mysteries or Thrillers.

Happy Reading!!!

Aleatha is an accurate book labeler. As a die-hard fan, I can confidently go into one of her books with an idea of what I will get out of the story. On The Edge is no different, it is labeled as a thriller, and that is precisely what Aleatha gave us. Classic twists and turns, multiple POVs to keep you guessing, and an open ending that leaves you to make your conclusions. I wish the story were longer to make a better conclusion for myself, but as I said, this is Aleatha's style of thriller, and I am here for it.

I received this book for free in exchange for an honest review. This does not affect my opinion of the book or the content of my review.

On The Edge by Aleathea Romig, gives an inside look into the lives of the members of the Woodland Cliffs Country Club, its owners and employees. The author created a web of secrets, lies and murder designed to keep the reader turning the pages while holding on to the edge of their seat.

SUMMARY

Rae Watson needs to earn additional funds to pay her rent and her college tuition. The offer to work at the Woodland Cliffs Country Club came at the most opportune time. Her best friend felt it may be Risky seeing that a woman died there a year ago under mysterious circumstances. However, Rae refused to allow an incident that was ruled as an accident to prevent her from earning the much-needed funds and so she accepted the job offer. Soon she will learn things are not always what they seem.

REVIEW
On the Edge was an interesting read. It grabbed me from the first page and refused to let go until the moment it took me to the edge and left me hanging. Marketed as a standalone, but with an unbelievable ending, I think there must be a sequel in the making. There is no way Romig would leave her fans in such a state of wonderment.

I had my finger on the person responsible for the women who went missing and eventually turned up dead from early on. However, it did not take away from the suspense. I thought the mystery and the suspense were well done. It sure had me flipping the pages rapidly, needing to learn the outcome. And what an outcome indeed. Never expected it and I was disappointed with how it was all tied up. There are several lingering questions that desperately need answers.

Classified as a romantic thriller, On the Edge was very light on the romance. The couple featured (Rea and Frankie) rarely spent time together, as both were busy with work. Sadly, I had difficulties connecting with them as individuals and as a couple. The romance was meh. No chemistry and no real connection, it lacked credibility.

Told from several POVs, the story highlighted the abuse of power by the employers through the demands of sexual favors. It shows the sense of entitlement displayed by these said employers and also the owners.

Overall, On the Edge provided a suspenseful getaway into the world of the country club and its rich and entitled members.

A standalone new-adult, romantic thriller, i wish this book come as a duet or a trilogy.
For me Aleatha's story deserved to be read in big huge books for how detail and intense she write.
And this book lack that aspect for me. Still intense in the thriller and mystery, but bit rush toward the end. I need all the depraved details.

But the ending! The ending bring a whole new story. The ending bring different perception on what's going on. A HFN not HEA, maybe? A closure? Or another tale to tell? An open option? Aleatha really got my mouth hanging open with that ending!

Still 4 star for me for the details and the intensity of the story

From the second I’ve skimmed through the book description, I knew I want to read this book asap.

There's so much going on in this suspenseful story.

Great characters development with the different social class groups they come from and clashed in a world of riches. Lots of mystery and murders with a few twists, and, above all, a fast-growing romance story that had me cheering for it from start to finish.

I hope we will get more in the future from these characters or the world.

On the edge was an amazing story and the start of a new series.

You'll get sucked into this story right away and will keep your attention to the very last page. I enjoyed the characters, the suspense, the drama, and the webs that were weaved in this world that is centered around the Cliffs Country Club. This book is much like others by Aleatha Romig - they build a great foundation for what is to come. There has to be more!!! This is not really an HEA type ending, more of a HFN. I can't wait to see what else she has in store for us! I was sent a complimentary copy and I am choosing to leave my honest review.

ON THE EDGE drew me in from the first pages, and from then on, I couldn’t stop reading. Once again, I can affirm I've been Aleatha'd.

"The edge was meant to be breached."

This suspenseful read had me on the edge of my seat all along. It felt like watching a tragedy happen in slow motion. The many characters, many of them antipathic, and some of them very touching, had me second-guessing everything I was reading, while the incredible atmosphere utterly added to this strange feeling. The suspicion that never left me.

"Fear was such an enticing emotion. It crackled like lightning in their eyes, emanated in a sweet scent from their pores, and propelled their actions."

Sometimes, when the author is really good, you just need to trust your emotions and enjoy the ride, which I did and I felt amazing. Only at the last minute was I able to breathe again, as the tension relieved in my body.

Well done, Mrs. Romig!

This standalone, new adult, romantic thriller from Aleatha Romig was my weekend read and it did NOT disappoint. On the Edge starts off fast and furious--the action is non-stop. This is an author adept at grabbing your attention from the get-go with enticing characters and all kinds of questionable happenings. There's some very nefarious things happening in this story and in typical Aleatha Romig style, she kept me on the edge of my seat, while I occasionally screamed at my Kindle, trying desperately to figure out what exactly was going on! I really enjoyed this story. The shady happenings kept me turning the pages while the story unfolded. The characters were all well-developed, interesting and very relatable. The story was filled with suspenseful moments and moved right along to an interesting, satisfying ending. That being said, I'd love to see this story continued into another book, or two, or three! There were definitely a few openings to move on from the main story. My imagination was running wild at the end! I highly recommend this book. If you love suspenseful reads, you will love On the Edge. It's a great weekend read!

My Rating: 🌟🌟🌟
Type: Standalone
Genre: Romantic thriller, Suspense
Primary Character: Rae Watson
Narration: Multiple POV

I have been a fan of Aleatha Romig and her romantic thrillers. I have enjoyed and liked several of thrillers earlier. When I read the premise and saw the cover I was intrigued and was expecting usual jaw dropping plot twists of Aleatha. However, personally I felt this isn’t her best work.

Plot begins with some of the shady findings near “Woodland Cliffs Country Club”. Rae a college student who is in need of additional funds for collage, accepts the offer to work at country club. Rae’s class crush Frankie is from other side of tracks and his family has a good foot hold in club.
Club is haven for the rich and powerful. It also has lot of shady business. All is not as it seems at the Cliffs- missing girls, dubious motives, scandal, family drama, harassment along with several secrets just around the bend.

Story is told from several club staff and owner perspective. Since we see multiple POV it has its own advantage and disadvantage. I guessed some of the twist’s way ahead. Even though plot ended with an open-ended question/cliff hanger and the book is classified as standalone, I have a good guess on who and why’s.

Plot has its own ups and downs. I didn’t connect with any characters. None of the characters were exceptional. Book lagged in depth. Writing style was simple however narration wasn’t gripping. Due to multiple POV we already knew the villan, but character wasn’t that enticing. It has less of Romance and more of uncovering truth which is good, yet it felt like, flavour enhancer was missing.

Overall, an “OK” one time read. I would have liked a longer story with more depth and details.

Aleatha Romig is one of my go-to authors for romantic suspense, and she delivers once again in this fast paced new release.

Woodland Cliffs Country Club has a lot of secrets, one's loyal members rely on staying secret, and with big tips, one's staff accept as part of the trade off. Rae Watson is the newest employee and learns quickly that there are expectations to keep the job she relies on for survival. But will she play along?

Told from multiple POVs, it is pretty clear early on how the main villain is, although that person certainly has company. Basically the rich believe money can fix everything, and they take what they want with no regard.

I liked Rae as the heroine. She has some insecurities but also doesn't allow herself to be taken advantage of by the staff and members of the country club. She also has luck on her side.

This was a very quick read and I kept thinking there would be a cliffhanger. However there isn't, and everything is wrapped up. I personally would have liked some parts to be fleshed out more, but overall, this was an engrossing read.

I haven’t read a book from Roming in a while and I thought this would be a good book to start back with. On the Edge wasn’t for me. I felt like it was all over the place with different POVs. I felt most of them was irrelevant to the story. To me it felt like the story moved slow in the beginning and then rushed at the end. I hope other readers enjoy it more than me.

This premise, this cover, the ensnaring suspense that no one writes quite like Aleatha Romig- this was a story that I knew would captivate me. Set in a lustrous small town elite world full of secrets, this Gothically-inspired romantic suspense definitely had me on the edge more than once. It’s mysterious, a bit soapey, and certainly delicious, in theory.

This new adult story emerges from the bougie Woodland Cliffs Country Club, a seaside elitist haven for the rich, powerful, and shady Monterey elite. Our heroine Rae, a struggling rising college senior, finds herself hobnobbing with all the mysterious locals and fellow struggling staff as part of her job at the fancy club- particularly her school crush Frankie, one of the elites that doesn’t know she’s working at the club. But swirling amidst this culture clash, friends to lovers new adult new adult romance between them, we also have a seedy mystery percolating. All is not as it seems at the Cliffs- missing girls, dubious motives from the uber rich, familial drama, scandalous affairs, and lots of secrets are all lurking over the edge- Ah, so much to unpack and uncover!

The bones of this story is everything I want- like Downton Abbey meets Little Lies with the “upstairs/downstairs” juxtapositions and the soapey elite melodrama. The architecture of the narrative, the characters, the foundation are all fantastic- but I felt this was missing some of the complexity and heat I crave in an AR story. As several of the Vella-to-published stories I’ve read thus far, I felt we have a lot of final act rushing and missing pieces. IN this case, a lot of action seemed to happen off the page and the ending felt both rushed and the mystery a bit anticlimactic. A lot of set up, without the reward. But, props for a premise with a lot of promise, and the start of a story that captured me, even if it didn’t quite deliver.

DELIRIOUSLY DECADENT PREMISE

“The edge was the precipice where a person must make a decision – step back or go over. The edge was meant to be breached.”

Being on a knife’s edge, a razor’s edge, or just plain edgey is the total name of the game
in this edge-themed story, as AR’s wickedly inventive mind takes a new turn in a modern Gothic suspensor that involves a powerful and entitled enclave of the filthy rich in Monterey (by the sea) California. Surf and secrets swirl around a toney private country club for the Uber-rich, where all is not as it seems, banging the help is on the daily menu, and the “have nots” on staff better watch their backs from members on the prowl or what might be expected of them. Lay low, stay frosty, and just pocket the outrageous tips might as well be the staff motto.

College coed Rae gets a summer server’s job at the club where she rubs elbows with other staff like her, and avoids being noticed by creepy members with suspicious motives. She’s exploring her new crush Frankie from school who happens to be one of the “haves” and doesn’t know she’s a club staffer. And then, there’s the unsolved mystery of missing girls. The last one disappeared while working at the country club. And then there’s the ultra-powerful Turner family with a history of infighting and bad blood. Rae’s just a gawping fish-out-of-water in this “danger Will Robinson, danger”, carte blanche world where anything goes and she’s not sure who to trust, as she separates creeps from good guys.

I just got Aleatha’d in a totally different way. The dynamite concept let me walk on a different wild side of her, but it was light on details I craved, and skirted around her usual take on romance and heat. This spine-tingler’s all about building suspense and sustaining a low, but persistent hum of pulsating tension that kept me on the edge and in the dark. Although a standalone without a cliffy ending, I would like to have experienced more things first-hand that happened off-page. For me, the villain aspect and mystery were understated. I was clamoring for more from the characters and story, despite the shock reveal in the rushed, twist ending. I’d have been okay with a duet or longer book to get there. That said, AR remains one of my fave authors with undeniable talent.

“Changing my computer to incognito, I accessed a well-coded VPN and began typing. ‘Miss Rae Watson, who are you?’”

wow. this book was so good. i love thrillers and i haven’t read one in a while, so this really just hit the spot. this book kept getting better and better, i really loved the book, until the end. the ending really was disappointing.

i wish this book was a duo or trio, because the ending was disappointing. i wish there was more to the story because it ended with me being even more confused.

i loved how the book was told by different characters. honestly now that i think about it, i’m starting to realize there wasn’t a straight plot and it was just a lot of tiny plots in a story. i just wish there was more and a different ending. maybe a second book after this one would make more sense to explain the ending.

if you like thrillers, i really recommend this book!! i definitely will be getting into more thrillers/romance thrillers!! i could not put this book down and i am still thinking about it!!

thank you to Wildfire Marketing PR for an ARC of this book!! i really enjoyed it and was so glad that i was able to get back into a thriller book!!! 💙💙

On the Edge
By Aleatha Romig

Woodland Cliffs Country Club where money is king and accidents or disappearance seems to keep the staff at Woodland’s looking out for each other.
On the outskirts of Monterey, it’s where the rich and famous play and sometimes a body is found on the beach.

It’s also the place readers will visit a second time if you’ve read Author Aleatha Romig’s Gravity in the Nightingale Anthology.

An opportunity to make good money before her last year of college, Rae Watson is offered a job at Woodland Cliffs Country Club she couldn’t pass up. Maybe she should have!

This romantic suspense/thriller lets us see inside the lives of the rich members, the bosses who often ask that you go “above and below your job description” and the people who keep Woodland Cliffs running.
Romig gives readers a maze of secrets and lies to follow. Who can be trusted? Who do you avoid? Who will be next to disappear?

I loved it! I couldn’t put it down and the author kept me On the Edge with all the twists and turns that occurred in this book. The secrets, the yucky gut feelings and the shocker at the end was Perfect!

What a rollercoaster ride of emotions and suspense “On The Edge” was and I could not put this book down. I was hooked from the very beginning and was turning the pages to find out the mystery of the Cliffs.

Rae is the newest server at the Cliffs thanks to her friend Beth who suggested her for the job. The Cliffs is a highly exclusive club that has only the best for their members. But when one of the former servers body washes ashore, there’s more to the club than what is shown.

Wow, just wow. This story was complex, suspenseful and full of emotions. We get several different POVs and that just adds so much to the story. It wasn’t centered just around one person or couple but multiple people who all added something to the story. The book is standalone but I’m hoping we get more from the people of the Cliffs. They are so unique and enticing that you can’t help want to learn their secrets too.

On The Edge is a great and suspenseful thriller. It’s written from different characters’ points of view however, it blends together nicely as it provides a better understanding of the storyline. Although this book is a quick read, it has depth and the angst had me on edge. And the ending floored me, justice is served and it ends just as it should have.

Another good story full of suspense from Aleatha Romig.
I was sucked in immediately! A great cast of characters kept glued to my Kindle. As we meet people we see small pieces of a bigger picture that is slowly unveiled.
I thought I knew where the story was going and it did.
BUT
I was hit with a turn that had me screaming NO!

A fast paced story with mystery and intrigue.
Rae gets a job at a country club where she’s around the privileged and powerful.
Secrets and danger are lurking. People aren’t always what they seem. I loved the mood and vibe that was set.
Girls have gone missing and it adds to the spine tingles and fear factor.
The tension and apprehension was set up well, the story was very fast and the romance and heat was a bit less/different than I expected. Maybe the short length of the story plays a factor there.
There’s a twist and shocker, I was quite pleased with that part.
It comes to an end quickly and it’s not exactly a traditional ending. It felt not fully complete.
I know it’s a standalone, but I can’t help but hope for more.

This story was just okay for me. I found it a little too predictable and also cliche. The story was centered around an exclusive country club, its members and the young workers.

The story was short and it read fast but the ending felt rushed, disjointed and left a few questions not answered. There were also several different POVs that didn’t quite help move the story forward in my opinion. Overall, this story just didn’t hit the mark for me.
