The Enemy's Son

Rate this book
Cora discovers her father is in trouble… and the only person who can help her is the enemy’s son, Nick Holloway.

Her father couldn’t have stolen a million dollars, so how is he going to replace it? In one week?

Nick claims he wants to help Cora and says he’s deceiving the Hollways to keep her safe…but what if he’s playing both sides? He could be using her attraction to him against her. Nick is ordered to take Cora out into the wilderness to a remote cabin to keep her father in line. Cora can’t allow herself to trust Nick, no matter how sexy he is.

Nick isn’t the only one offering to help. Alexander Pierce could scare the devil but he can also track down anyone in a day. He warns Cora that if she wants to find her father alive, he’s the way.

Soon she’s running from her feelings for Nick, running from creepy Alexander and the rest of the Holloways, and trying to find her father somewhere in the city of Eugene. To make matters worse, everyone thinks she has access to the missing money.

The clock is ticking…

I expected liking this book more than I did. Although I was interested to see how everything turned out, the story was disjointed and confusing. Obviously as a suspense romance it wasn't going to be a crystal clear happily-ever-after but there seemed to be loose ends, unclear motivations, and the relationship between Nick and Cora was pretty rushed.

Kristen James has done it again! Only this time her spin on romance is suspense and intrigue. Although, I have to say that instead of the romance with a dash of suspense tossed in, it's more of a fifty/fifty equation. There is enough action to keep the reader on the edge of their seat, waiting to see what will happen to Cora and her father.

Cora has a very close relationship with her father. After all, he is all she has left. So Cora is admittedly spooked when her dependable father doesn't show up to dinner. She's even more confused when a very swoon-worthy man named Nick comes up to tell her that her father is okay but unable to make it to dinner. Cora then makes the worst mistake of her life... she follows Nick, sure that he knows where her father is.

Unfortunately what she's stumbles upon puts her life in danger. It appears that her father is accused of embezzling money from his employer, Keith Holloway, and now Cora needs to clear his name before they kill him. Her only accomplice is Nick, the enemy's son. To make matters more complicated he's attractive and she's falling for him. Now she's on a race against time, and the towns biggest drug suppliers, to clear herself and save her father.

Who can she trust, is Nick really on her side? Will she able to clear her father? Can she escape the clutches of Keith's evil henchman Alexander, who has a sick attraction to her? I guess you'll have to read the book to find out! Kristen James does a great job of not overwhelming the reader with super sweet romance and over the top sex scenes. The fast plot is enough to grab the reader and hold their attention. A definite recommendation for the romance reader in you!

I was not paid for this review. I downloaded the book on a free day. The opinions expressed here are my own and were in no way swayed. Thank you for taking the time to read my review! Have a great day. -Melissa

I'm just drawn to a story where the two main characters hate each other but need to rely on one another then have a lust as well! I mean what's not to love! So this is one of those stories.

Cora and her father are very close and only have each other. When her father doesn't show up where they were suppost to meet, Cora knows something is wrong. Walking out of the cafe towards her car to search for her dad a man walks up to her. Tall, gorgerous, sexy, mysteries, to just name a few, Nick tells Cora that her father said he couldn't make and sent him. Cora taking that as a clue knowing that her father wouldn't blow her off then send some stranger to tell her.

Cora refusing to let it go she goes to her father's employer's house, the Holloways. The Holloways were very wealthy and kept many secrets. Whe she arrives she gets held hostage as well as her father. Her father is being held because they believe he stoled a million dollars from The Holloways. Trying to process everything Nick walks him. He's a Holloway!

Nick's father tells him they need to keep Cora, he takes her to a cabin away from town. On the trip he tells Cora he is on her side and wants nothing more than to protect her and her father. Cora is confused as to what to do, and who to trust. Having feelings for Nick definitely doesn't help when she knows her father is being tortured for information he might not even know.

Good mystery, love story, suspenseful and just an all together fun read!

I had high hopes for this book because it sounded suspenseful enough and the title is what drew me to the book in the first place but I read it and it was a great as I thought it would be. It wasn't very exciting or suspenseful and nothing really happened to make want to read it again. What really dissapointed me was Cora and Nick's relationship. To me, Nick came on way to strong and would have me hitting him over the head and getting the heck out of there but also the way Cora let physical attraction make her dicisions while her father was in the hospital having surgery from being kidnapped, beatin and shot. But like all my books, I'm glad I read it but I don't have plans of rereading it.

Cora discovers that her father is in trouble. He's working for some bad guys and now he's being accused of stealing a million dollars. Cora knows he wouldn't do that, but how can she rescue him and clear his name?

Enter Nick. His father and uncles are not nice guys. He's separated himself from the family business but suddenly he finds a way that he can bring his father down. But first he has to keep Cora safe and help her father get away from his father.

Quite a bit of action since there are several people after Cora.

Language was clean and though there were sexual situations, we didn't have to read the details.

Synopsis
Cora’s dad, Jerry, is the only person she has left of her family. When she goes to meet him for dinner and is met by Nick, she knows something is wrong. Although Nick was very attractive, it is not like her dad to miss time with her.
Jerry’s work has always been a mystery to Cora but when she goes to Keith’s house, Jerry’s boss, she is met with the unexpected. Not only was Nick there, but so is Keith’s entourage of other family and other staff and they are holding Jerry hostage!
Cora tries to put the mystery together and tries to figure out who she can trust. Could Nick, Keith’s son, be after her too or is he trying to help her? Can she save her father?

What I thought
The Enemy’s Son was FULL of excitement and action the entire way though! It was a definite edge-of-your-seat page turner. I think this book could easily be adapted into a movie and would appeal to both men and women with a perfect combination of action and romance.

Very good. Not sure why the beginning seemed a bit unbelievable to me, but I'm glad I kept reading. There were a few typos and inconsistencies (i.e. Adam was driving, then "Herald remained silent in the driver's seat", then back to Adam pulling the car over), enough for me to obviously notice; but none that completely distracted me, and I could see them as honest mistakes, not lack of knowledge. The ending was very well put together, and provided just the right amount of closure. Reason for 4 stars instead of 5- it was easy to get caught up in, but also easy enough to put down. While I would surely recommend this to others, I also know I will forget about it in a short amount of time. That said, I will certainly be checking out more books from Kristen James.

First, I use Goodreads to keep track of what I read, so I don't edit it...I know this book looks slutty, but it's really not. It's about a reporter whose father gets framed for stealing a million dollars from a drug lord. The reporter lady gets held as ransom until the father gets the money back, but he has to uncover who stole it first. It's a fast read and has mystery, romance and action. (Not romantic action as the cover portrays). It gets two stars because it doesn't have a lot of depth-fast summer read.

I had high hopes for this book. The cover lookd fairly hot and the blurb hinted that it was suspensful.
Sadly, it didn't live up to my expectations and it could benefit from an editor. I didn't feel the romance, as it was too soon and the author didn't work up to it.

All in all, it wasn't totally horrible. It even had some enjoyable parts.

Cora finds herself in a bad situation. Her father is missing and she is being held hostage until they get money her dad might have stolen. Cora finds herself falling in love with her kidnapper Nick. I loved the twists and turns this story takes you on. However I don't understand loving the person who kidnapped you! WaAR

This was a good book though at about 80% all I could think was Cora was an idiot for opening the door. It was very suspenseful and I enjoyed the letter at the end that tied everything together. Overall a good read!

This is the 3rd book I read by Kristen James. The storyline was okay. I thought Cora was brave. The story had a good amount of action. I downloaded this book when it was free & my kindle copy has a lot of errors.

at least it tried for a little more substance than most formula chick-lit romance novels, but i found it kind of confusing & didn't hold my interest. finished it, but didn't really enjoy it. so far my least favorite Kristen James book..
