Those Kilted Bastards #4

The Sinner's Tempting Captor

Rate this book
He might have killed her brother, but this sinner is now the only man who can save her.

Lady Honoria Lindsay is the daughter of a duke and the sister of three-too-many dead brothers. She’s learned to armor herself against inconvenient emotions like grief with propriety and charity…until an altruistic favor to a bereaved old man offers her a way to absolve her guilt. The possible clue rests with Crowe MacLeod, the baseborn bastard who is currently in prison for murdering one of the aforementioned brothers.

He also happens to be the only man she’s ever loved.

So she does what any well-brought-up young lady who has reached the end of her patience would do; she acquires a gun, recruits a young pickpocket as a chaperone, and jaunts off to spring Crowe from jail. With a few caveats, of course.

After nine years in hell, he’s finally free… Thanks to the one woman he has cause to hate.

It’s galling enough to owe his freedom to the woman who landed him in prison in the first place, but to learn she’s kidnapping him at gunpoint? Crowe MacLeod cannot allow the memory of their forbidden passion to blind him to the certainty of how she betrayed him, no matter how tempting she may be.

His captor has plans for him, and if he wants his future returned to him, he has to help her solve the mystery of her dead brothers. But as danger closes in, and he gives in to the temptation of their shared desire, Crowe comes to suspect he has no future…without her.

Warning: Dun-dun-DUUUUNNNN! This thrilling/electrifying/sensational (insert other big blockbuster words here) conclusion to Those Kilted Bastards is the story you’ve been waiting for! Get ready for plenty of laughs (and even more naughty bits) with this fabulous RomCom!

Lady Honoria Lindsay's a duke's daughter & for nine years she's missed the man she loved when he was convicted of killing her half brother. When Honoria learns that Laird MacLeod is seriously ill she acquires a gun, recruits her young half brother as a chaperone, and jaunts off to spring Crowe MacLeod from jail. After nine years in hell, he’s finally free. It’s galling enough to owe his freedom to the woman who landed him in prison in the first place. His captor has plans for him, and if he wants his future returned to him, he has to help her solve the mystery of her three dead brothers.
The fourth & final book in the series & the one I’ve been waiting for, Crowe has been mentioned throughout the series & this book didn’t disappoint in any way. Strong characters, a fast paced story, sizzling chemistry & an intriguing mystery that gradually unfolds all mesh together to make for a book I had difficulty putting down. Whilst I loved Crowe & Honoria Bull stole the book for me & I hope he has his story when he grows up. There was a lovely mix of humour, mystery & romance as well as some very touching emotional scenes, which had me reaching for a hankie. A brilliant series finale & a hint of what’s to come!

This has been my favorite series of the books I have read by Caroline. It is darker, not dark dark, than her normal romps. My favorite book, there I said it! Love a book where the hero is scarred or tortured or just plain hurting. Caroline weaves some laughing moments in with the emotional side of this story. I just loved it! Caroline, I think you should go full tilt darker in your stories. I know, you are known for being very funny but this series has been the best! Although looking at the next with the Exingham family might be the same, hmm???

I received a complimentary copy from the author.

Amazing story of second chances, lovers-to-enemies-to-lovers story. Crowe MacLeod has spent the last days in prison for murder. He's thought of Lady Honoria Lindsay every one of those days. Not sure whether to love her or hate her when she shows up to get him out of prison, he does know one thing - he's going to take advantage of his freedom. Loved these characters, the story, the side characters (especially Honoria's brother), and the conclusion of the series. (Can be read as a standalone, however). Make sure to read the author's note - always hilarious and and full of historic tidbits.

𝗥𝗲𝘃𝗶𝗲𝘄

Nine years, three months, and sixteen days to feel human and love again …

Crowe was the mystery man of this group of 5 friends, the one who committed the unforgivable. Except he did not.
For nearly a decade, he lived through hell, only to be finally free by the woman he loved and hated at the same time, the one he never has been able to leave behind.
Crowe always had a dark streak, still he does not made him a monster, even less when he thought he has found the right person to bring light to his life, until everything spiraled down and he had to do what he thought was the right thing.
Honoria has loved Crowe for as long as she can remember. And even believing him a murderer, she has never been able to forget him, he is still the one man she ever loved.
Yet it is a gentle soul that make her listen to an old man’s heart, why despite everything, she is determined to help him reach solace even if it means releasing and kidnapping her brother’s killer.

Like the previous books, it is still with a lot of cursing, lot of sensuous quips, fun double meanings but also moving moments.
And while it is the last in this series, it won’t be the last time we hear about them with Rourke (Honoria’s brother)’s upcoming tale.

I wonder if the “A Harlot’s Guide to the Forbidden and Delightful Arts” will be one day published?!!!!

Focuses more on the crime than romance and is a bit darker than others from Lee. I enjoyed it, and there were some sexy scenes 🔥🔥🔥, but the conflict between them was resolved fairly early on and the rest focused on the crime/mystery plot. There was very little build up or romance, it was just conflict resolved, okay we are in love and good. There were some nice things about how they loved and supported each other now, but I wanted more of an arc I guess. And it is one of those second chance romances that if they had just talked (apparently even once or a little) in the past, then none of this would have occured in the first place, and I always have some problems with that storyline. Maybe if they had a meaningful conversation about that now, it would have helped. I don't know. It was mildly aknowledged inwardly, but I felt it could have been addressed better.

Also, he seemed to recover from years of hard prison quite easily, to the point where his personality seemed lighter and more gregarious, for lack of a better word, than even before he went to prison. It just felt off to what was described as his natural personality, which could be explained by things looking up for him, but still felt not quite right in the scheme of things.

It did finish off the series nicely, and overall was an enjoyable read. Looks like Rourke will be getting his own book in a new series, but I am wondering if Althea will also (since Lee's books seem to usually/always? be connected in the same world and with Scarlett Scott's as well). Would also love to see Bull get his story once he grows up. He was a great character.

Good book

This is book#4 of Those Kilted Bastards.
Honoria and Crowe make a wonderful couple. It's too bad that there is a misunderstanding that keeps them apart.
Lady Honoria Lindsay is the daughter of a duke and the sister of three-too-many dead brothers. She’s learned to armor herself against inconvenient emotions like grief with propriety and charity…until an altruistic favor to a bereaved old man offers her a way to absolve her guilt. Caroline Lee has written another good book.

Crowe MacLeod is a convicted criminal. He had his reasons to confess to killing one of his best friends and when this “reason” proceeds to free him from prison and then kidnaps him, he’s quite confused… Why is Lady Honoria, his first and only love, doing this? Is she suddendly out of her mind? That’s the intriguing beginning of yet another magnificent book by Caroline Lee!
I was waiting for this book since the beginning of the series, where Crowe was mentioned quite a few times. And I wasn’t disappointed at all! Thanks to her uncanny ability to elicit a good laugh in every circumstance, Caroline Lee was able to perfectly mix humor and angst and create a gorgeous book that made me smile even during the more poignant parts. We all know that Lee is the queen of historical rom-com, but I’m fairly sure she could pull off a darker and angstier book if she wanted. Because there’s another thing we all know and it’s that it’s harder to make someone laugh than it is to make them cry…
So I laughed and was even moved by this book and I loved Crowe and Honoria and their undeniable chemistry, but I especially loved seeing all the characters of the previous books coming back and gathering around their friend. And now I can’t wait for Honoria’s brother and his HEA! I so love a mysterious character!
I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Crowe and Honoria’s love story is a satisfying conclusion to the mystery that ran through the Those Kilted Bastards series by Caroline Lee.

She definitely writes historical romcoms, but this book definitely tugged on my heartstrings. There were so many misunderstandings and lies that caused them to be separated for far too long. I enjoyed the scenes with the group of them reunited. Caroline has created such a rich world for us to enjoy.

I will say that I started to suspect the twist about a third to half of the way through the book, but its resolution was handled masterfully.

We were introduced to a couple characters whose own stories I’d love to read. I’m curious to see what Althea’s future holds, as well as Bull’s. Bull is so amusing and charming; he stole my heart. He deserves a very special lady once he’s had time to mature. I’m also interested in learning about Rourke’s backstory.

Fair warning: make sure you have time to binge read before you start. I read the book in less than half a day even with interruptions because I couldn’t put it down!

A Sinner, An Angel, Mystery:
An in-depth intriguing topsy turvy story from the beginning.
You gotta love this intelligently written series of the Kilted Bastards.
My favorite character Crowe and the sweet, witty and smart Honoria.
This story has it all and is absolutely unforgettable, exciting, shocking,
passionate, and makes me want more of this series.
I enjoyed many hours of entertainment while reading this humorous story with several sensual situations, many heartfelt confessions, plus a mystery to solve. A long with a surprisingly shocking
ending not to miss.
I encourage all readers to enjoy the authors notes at the end. Very interesting.
Mature Advisory: High
Note there is an abundance of swearing that didn't deter me from the
story but some might find it offensive.
A stand-alone story but I encourage you to read the entire series in order.
I did receive a preview copy for my honest opinion.

Murder planned?
Honoria is face to face with Crowe after bribing the prison warden and holding a loaded weapon!
Crowe has been locked up in hell for 9 years 6 months some weeks and days he’s counted every last one in this hell! But he’s not the only one.
Honoria faces the one man she should loath not love Because he killed her brother James but he’s been locked up and her brothers keep dying! 4 to be exact something is very wrong.
Crowe and Honoria have a mutual enemy one that is going to be difficult to face. First they have to face each other. Honoria and Bull her younger brother of course invoke and share lol moments that this author is known for!
To face their future and resolve huge mistakes of the past they bring about a reunion with the kilted Bastards which is long over due!
Get ready for all the emotions, laughter, tears angry, and of course enough steam to fog the windows in the grand finale! Bravo In bringing this all together!!!

Loved it! This is book 4 (and last) of the Those Kilted Bastard series. This book is about Lady Honoria Lindsay and Crowe MacLeod. I have been waiting for this book since the first book! This is a standalone but read the other 3, they are great too! This book had such great characters in it! The H & h were great, of course, but the secondary characters were wonderful too that they made the story so much more interesting. I actually can't wait for their stories!!! Read this story at home, you'll be laughing and gasping too much. Honoria is wonderful, such spunk and backbone, love her! Crowe, what a wonderful, loving man. You can't help but want these two together!!!! This a is laugh, be sad, romantic, tug at your heart great story!!!!
WONDERFUL!

9 years 3 months and 16 days. That is how long Crowe and Honoria have been apart, that is until she gets him released from jail
and kidnaps him so that he can see his dying father.
Crowe had been imprisoned for killing Honoria’s brother, but it soon comes to light he was set up and the hunt is on to find out who really killed him.
A great addition to this series. I couldn’t put it down as well just loved their relationship. They are a very likeable couple who are very passionate and have you rooting for them throughout the book.

A great read! Spoiler!!!

I enjoyed reading about Crowe and Honoria, how they met to how they fell in love. His friends were all bastards so it only made sense they would befriend each other, until one was killed he thought she did it so he said he did it to save her from prison. Years later she kidnaps him out of prison to take him to his ailing father, he runs when they get back to Scotland. She writes the Bastards to ask for help finding him only he shows up during a storm at his fathers. In the end they find out all the suspicious deaths of her brothers was all the same way by head injuries, and by the same man, her father.I highly recommend this book!👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤

Crowe Macleod murdered Lady Honoria Lindsays brother... So why is she, a Lady, desperate to get him released from jail, using bribery and at gun point? And why is Crowe so angry at Honoria. He did the crime and has served time for it, so why does he feel used? There's more to this than meets the eye.

Fabulous conclusion to Those Kilted Bastards series. Plot twists aplenty complete with a hot romance that's had 9 years, 3 months and 16 days to smoulder, threatening to burst into flames at any second.

Great read!!!

Caroline Lee who is sort of like a new author to me. I had only read her in the Second Chance Manor series with Scarlett Scott and Merry Farmer. But the last book in that series was one that she wrote and it was my favorite and was so damn good, I had to try her again. She writes a lot of Scottish genre which I don't really read anymore but I am liking this series.

I really liked this book a lot. It was a great storyline, great characters and good sex scenes.

I would definitely recommend.

misunderstood hero, devoted heroine

Your heart breaks as the story of Crowe and Honoria unfolds. The evil perpetrated upon Crowe in prison. The control Honoria was placed under for almost 10 years and the strength she had to commit to Crowe’s release and kidnapping. The resolution of the mystery of all the brother’s deaths was expected but still it was interesting read and all the friends coming together at the end was very satisfying conclusion to a series of books. This is a necessary read in the series.

Once I started this book, I couldn’t stop reading until I finished every last page. Honoria and Crowe were easily my favorite couple of this series, and we were introduced to some truly great side characters (in addition to revisiting the previous couples from the series). Bull was a particular favorite of mine, and I love that he shows back up in some of the author’s more recent work. The conclusion to the series was particularly satisfying, and Caroline managed a perfect blend of humor, tenderness, heat and angst in this particular book. I loved every single second of it!

Way more sexy and less of the stupid humor of the rest of the series.

This is by far the best novel of this series. And, as it spawns the sequel series that I adore, I’m really glad I read this! So many great characters! Honoria and Crowe are so wonderful and dark and determined. The rest of this series is almost painfully rom-com with terrible humor at times, but this novel going much darker and more insidious really works. I loved everything about this! This might be my favorite of Lee’s novels!

I loved this series ❤️❤️ what a wonderful way for it to end! I teared up at some parts and laughed out loud at others, such wonderful new characters introduced and old ones who came to visit, Crowe and Honoria are torn apart, he thought he was protecting her, she thinks he killed her brother, they should hate each other but can true love conquer all?!! I highly recommend this series, it's funny, hot 🔥🔥🔥 and just delicious to read 💓💓

What an amazing story!
I have been waiting for this one ever since I read the teaser at the end of one of the other books.
Honoria and Crowe are just magic together and their story did not disappoint.
I was so surprised to find out what had actually happened. Never expected that outcome!
As usual, Caroline Lee tells it with a lot of cheekiness, some cursing and some beautiful hot scenes.
I loved everything about this one.

This was 3.5 stars. I really liked the plot and I thought the siblings were cute and funny.

What really destroyed it for me was the whole “fireplace poker” thing. They made it seem like when Keith mentioned the poker, that was news, but the poker was mentioned twice before in the book…that would’ve been a great twist, but somehow the author and all her editors missed it and it was HUGE! This would’ve been 4 stars if not for that. It would’ve been such an “aha” moment, but instead I was like, “Um yeah, we knew about the poker. What of it?”

I enjoyed this one as well as all the others in this series. Cam is still my favorite but I enjoyed reading Crowe and Honoria's story and couldn't help feeling aggravating for what happened to them. I am glad that they did get their HEA and Those Kilted Bastards were able to get resolution and mend the relationship as well.

The end of this story now has me wondering WHAT ABOUT ROURKE??!!! I'm so glad to know he has his own book so of course I need to get ahold of it.

A great ending for the four Kilted Bastards. You learn to hate Crowe in the previous books and now after nine years in prison he is kidnapped by a woman. I had no idea how he would find redemption but this perfect. I must be honest and say Bull was actually my favorite character. I just can't get enough of Caroline Lee's imagination!

Great Fun Series

I love Caroline Lee's sense of humor and this series of books. We finally get the story of what happened to James. Crowe and Honoria's story is so good and answers lots of questions from the previous books. I just love how the ending came together. A captivating read that I read straight through that left me with a smile.

What starts as a sad beginning turns into a happy ending. Enduring love, mistrust, naughty bits and a manipulative killer make this a great story. Honoria and Crowe both think the other is a killer. Even though they should hate each other their love and libido will not allow them to be apart. This love will bring about who the guilty person is and friendships will be renewed.

The lies

Crowe admitted to a crime he didn't do for the one he loved. Honoria didn't know this and thought he killed her brother. She still loved him. After getting Crowe released she finds out he didn't kill her brother. Now the question is who did and why. Also how to find the love that was lost by his imprisonment. Honoria and Crowe reunite.

Good ending to the series, with a creative "reverse kidnapping" storyline. Some tension, plenty of steam, humor (the author's trademark) but not so much that it diminishes the plot. The ending is rather rushed, and some events stretch credulity, but these books are really more about the entertainment value anyway. Just sit back after a long day at work and enjoy.

Hard to put down.

This book was as humorous as the previous three, but also had a seriousness to it. I was intrigued by Crowe's story and glad he got his happy ever after. I loved that all the Kilted Bastards were together again. I do hope Rourke, Althea, and Bull get their own book.
