Enter a world where needles are sexy and knitting is deadly...
Camille and Brad are sock-puppets trapped in a dusty old attic. One day they find needles, and Brad teaches Camille how to knit sensuous and arousing patterns... but what begins as a journey of sexual awakening leads to the unravelling of Camille's perfect world in a strangely twisted nightmare of obsession and betrayal.
I found my digital copy of A PUPPET SCORNED by Jamie Kort in the Kindle Store!
SCORNED is one of the more surprising stories I've ever read. I went in expecting something foul, inhuman, and depraved, but I found so much more than that. I found creative character arcs that speak about the pressures of parenthood and the competing sexual goals of procreation and romantic intimacy. The storyline is weird but only in the way very clever parodies can be. Kort scatters potent symbolism throughout this long short story that with even superficial literary analysis yields would reveal a treasure of ideas and emotions.
I want to go into more detail, but I desperately don't want to spoil A PUPPET SCORNED for you, on the hope you will go read it yourself. It will make you ask, what the f--k did I just read?

A PUPPET SCORNED [2021] By Brad Kort My Review 5.0 Stars Out Of 5
This short work is dark humor/horror from author Brad Kort and it is Book 1 of The Puppet Yarns (clever that title).
I read this (Book 1) at bedtime which chronicles the betrayal and I thought it was hilarious. The style of the writing and the words themselves are so well crafted that this is so utterly believable until you think “wait a minute” these are sock puppets!
The emotions of the scorned “mother” Camille puppet are so dead-on, and it is easy to see how sensuous could be interpreted in the script. Revenge is sweet especially from a vengeful Camille and her kiddies sock puppets.
I thought the whole story was a hoot, really a pick me up feel good little read. Brad Kort must be a genius because I cannot imagine any man with the ingenuity and imagination to write such a marvelous and clever satire.
A Puppet Scorned…is like nothing I have ever read before. I understand everything and yet nothing. Two fornicating sock puppets. A product of lovemaking. A devilish vengeance. This is what I enjoy about indie stories – sometimes you will get something that comes out of the left-field but you end up enjoying it way more than you expected! The euphemism between sex and socks isn’t lost on me. It’s such a crazy concept that it had to be good, right? RIGHT.
Camille and Brad are two sock puppets who enjoy the more debasing activities in life – a dusty attic is a perfect backdrop to – using knitting needles as sex toys, yup you read that right. It’s a fun ride, with under 33 pages, and can be read in about 20 minutes. I really enjoyed a lot of the inferred topics within.
Absent Fathers – They make a beautiful little sock puppet baby and Brad is absolutely abhorred. This isn’t what they intended. Camille sees it as a product of how much they love each other, but Brad doesn’t see it that way. All he sees is this thing still attached to Camille by the yarn. It’s a parasite that has taken all that was good about Camille and sucked her dry. She’s let herself go, a comment said by some awful partners after a woman has undergone a traumatic event. He feels he must get rid of the child and by association, Camille too.
Replacing a love with a younger model – Brad doesn’t waste any time moving on. Being with Camille was good while it lasted but like that old adage, all good things must come to an end. Camille is in the rear-view mirror and his new floozy knows just how to please him. Camille is enraged that he could just throw their love away so flippantly. She’ll show him, with lingerie made from the skin of dead animals and beetle eyes, she will show him just what he’s missing. A Puppet Scorned was damn weird.
A Puppet Scorned was a super fun read if a little bizarre, but that’s what the author is going for. An opening cadence that is both brilliant and eye-opening. I can honestly say that I didn’t know where this one was going – a bit like awaiting the first domino to topple the rest. Although a lot of fun it is a story about action and consequence.
Well this is the most bizarre story I’ve ever read, and I’ve read a lot, and I must admit that I freaking loved it.
Brad (stripey) and Camille (yellow polka dots) are sock puppets, with googly eyes, who one day, while using knitting needles to ‘love knit’, they make a little sock baby. Brad is completely outraged that Camille has grown so ‘attached’ (with yarn) to this abomination without any eyes. After failing to separate the yarn attaching mother and baby, using a pair of rusty, blunt scissors, Brad pushes them both into a box, to live in darkness.
Brad knits himself a younger model, also called Camille and they spend their days ‘love knitting’. This makes Camille #1 knit 3 more babies…Bluey, Woody and Wiggy (hilarious!!!).
I’m going to stop there as I’ve probably said too much, but PLEASE, if you love your Bizarro, or just need a huge giggle, then you need to read this very cute, short (34 page) story. I highly recommend it 🤣
As with most bizarro tales, I wasn't really sure what to expect with A Puppet Scorned—however I certainly wasn't expecting so much to be packed in this short of a story. This is dramatic! The characters felt real to me, as if they had tiny beating hearts beneath their cotton skin, and I found myself caring deeply about their situation. It's short, can easily be read during a lunch break, and I recommend you make time for it. You'll be glad you did. It's bizarro with a whole lot of heart.
This is a weird bizarro story. I dont really know what to think about it to be honest. Its definitely unique, silly, bizarre and entertaining.
We follow two sock pupperts Camille and Brad in a attic who fall in love, have sex in unique ways which spawn a blind mute child sock puppet. Brad leaves wanting nothing to do with the child. Camille wont let that happen and raises the child whilst plotting to win Brad back. It's not until she finds Brad has moved on with someone else that her revenge is put into place.
Like I said very weird but it's short and I liked it for being so different. Not entirely my cup of tea but it was entertaining. Maybe a good story to recommend to your knitting loving Grandma?? 3.5 stars upped to 4.
This short novella aims for weirdness and it is spot-on. I would add absurd, which is another target it nails. A PUPPET SCRONED unravels its' plot, knits its' conflict, and sews it all together in a blunt and horrific resolution. I enjoyed it, but can't justify more than a three-star rating. While it is thankfully short and to the point, if you think about the story too long it will raise a basket full of unanswered questions. Kudos to author Kort for writing some highly imaginative and provocative love-making between the two sock puppets. Needles and knitting, indeed. I'll never see images of sock puppets again without recalling those scenes.
Did I ever think I would relate to a sock puppet, a polka dot one at that (I type as I'm wearing a sprinkle dot blouse)? No I did not, but my oh my did I relate.
I'm not entirely sure why I initially decided to buy this little title, if you're familiar with me you know that erotic is a word that's extremely likely to just get me to nope it out of there real right quick, I'm glad I ignored the erotic aspect because it's actually not super spicy but it's really bizarre and delightful.
All of that being said, A Puppet Scorned is a tale of exploitation (grooming), abandonment and parenting as an immature mind. I might be reading into it, but Camille came across as a teen latching onto their groomer and trying to recapture that initial spark of validation in any way they can, all to catastrophic results and as I said before this story hits right in the feels if you give it half a chance. And there's lingerie made of insects, what more could you want?
Moral of the story: kitting is actually dangerous and sinister but also weirdly sensual. Also, your knitting projects might actually eat you.
I saw a friend review this horror short on Instagram and knew I had to read it. It was 33 pages of WTF as the most bizarre, oddly charming story unfolded before me. A little background so both my review and the content of this story make sense. Long before Toy Story, I was the kid who was convinced that my dolls came to life when I went to sleep, so I made sure to play with them all equally so none of them would attack me in my sleep.
A PUPPET SCORNED is what happens when you allow someone to just open his imagination and write. The story centers around Camille and Brad, sock puppets banished to a dusty attic. One day they find knitting needles, and the story takes to a turn...into sock puppet porn? Trust me when I say the descriptions weren't comical or gratuitous; it was oddly endearing reading about the "patterns" these two knitted. But then the betrayal happens, and along with it came some of the BEST insults I have ever read!
If this genre can have dinosaur erotica, surely socks should be allowed as well. I will NEVER look at another pair of discarded socks on my floor the same way again. I really hope the author considers turning this into a full-length book or at least a novella. Available now on Kindle.
"When I was young I met the most handsome, striped sock puppet in the world. He swept me off my cuff. The sweet words he’d whisper about my yellow polka-dots made me go all frizzy"
😳 I'm not entirely sure what I just read. Thank you to @jamie_f_kort for giving me the chance to read this, and for subjecting me to whatever this was. 😂 I'm not gonna lie, I kinda enjoyed it. I mean, I think I did? I don't even know anymore.
A Puppet Scorned is one of the wildest horror stories I have ever read. I don’t even know where to start. Sock puppets having sex? It had me laughing out loud and wondering what would happen next. It may be a quick read, but it was chock full of wickedness.
Picked this book up on a whim after I saw something about it on social media. Read it in one sitting, cackling here and there at well placed puns and bizarre occurrences. Pick this up for a quick read and a bit of bizzaro horror erotica fun. With sock puppets.
This short story is absolutely hilarious, as I hoped it would be. The author offered me a copy to review, and with a description of “sock puppet erotic horror”, I wasn’t sure what to expect. This is the story of two socks who began love-knitting, and made a child. I can’t explain it, I can just tell you to read it. I’ll never look at knitting needles the same…four stars! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
(Thank you to Jamie Kort for the complimentary copy in exchange for my review.)
Yikes! This is a seriously disturbing puppet family drama!!
I don’t how or why Jamie thought this story into existence, but I’m so so glad the author did!! It’s just an incredible “yarn”, and I definitely need more knitting horror in my life.
So excited to see what macabre and twisted tales the author comes up with next!
Okay I wasn't sure what I was expecting going into this book but it wasn't this 😅 but did I like it? Heck yeah!!
This was such a bizzare horror erotica puppet short story it took me by surprise. So weird and unique, I'm here for it. I'll never look at knitting the same way again.
If you like to read weird af short stories, this one's for you!
Ive got my eye on some of the others by Jamie, cant wait to check those out.
This isn't a book, but a short story of only 34 pages. A juicy taster if you love the novella, or a blessing in disguise if you don't? I'm in the middling pack and giving out a free review.
I don't know how to classify this literature? Fun to read, humorous erotic fantasy featuring sock puppets with knitting needles interweaving their twines, ooh err missus, in a weirdly steamy, under-the-cover woolen duvet romance?
Randy socks? Yeah, I'm up for it.
This is a bit creepy, but never horror, suddenly deciding to become scary near the end, achieved through the sudden and very jarring insertion of the c-word on multiple occasions for heightened effect, which stunned me for being so out of line with the quirky, smutty and YA sexy narrative.
What a shame the author turned this book into something it isn't, but I enjoyed the clever rephrasing of words, such as: "I wanted to make gloves with Brad." 😁
I'm giving this three stars as a weirdly worthy effort. I believe it could achieve a wider audience by dropping the jump-scare c-word tactics and establishing itself as wantonly erotic romance or something.
You can get this for literally pennies on Amazon and it's worth supporting the author for his barmy writing style and hopefully better work to come.
I read this as a commitment to the Horror Haven reading group.
A Puppet Scorned follows the attic adventures of Brad and Camille, a pair of sock puppets with intrepid souls. They stumble upon some knitting needles and yarn and embark on a journey of sexual awakening. Yes, you read that correctly. While this may sound ridiculous (it most definitely is), author Jamie Kort uses this bizarro backdrop to craft a haunting tale of creation, acceptance and family dynamics.
I’m amazed at what Kort was able to accomplish in 32 pages – it’s dramatic, the betrayal is heartbreaking, the terror is palpable, and there’s lots of kinky love-knitting that will probably make you question everything you believe in. I mean…a voyeuristic sock puppet? Why does this work?! He tells his story with a charming and unassuming voice, only to flip the switch and morph the narrative into one of sweet sweet vengeance.
What ensues is…something. I CANNOT ruin this for you, dear reader. Please please please consider giving this book a chance. Fair warning, the pun game is strong and glorious.
Unexpected in the best ways possible. I’ll never look at a knitting needle the same ever again.
I ask... Is it weird to be aroused and horrified at the same time? What if it is socks that are causing you to feel this way. A Puppet Scorned is a brilliantly funny tale about obsession, lust vs love, and oddly enough the trials of being a single mother. It speaks towards abuse and manipulation and how that violation creates distortion in reality. It was difficult to giggle when such topics were prevalent and the demonstrations of horror occurred. It was messed and traumatizing and purely revolting. I loved it! ❤️
What in the world did I just read and why did I like it so much?!
This is a strange little story about sock puppets in an attic. You follow the perspective of one puppet and her obsessive love affair with another. Things go awry and so many wild things happen.
There is HILARIOUS puns and entertaining intimate scenes between socks. Lots of emotion and way more horror than I was expecting. When I first started reading it I was so confused but once I got into the rhythm of the story then I found myself really engaged in the plot and characters. There was actually a couple plot twists that surprised me and I was really digging the vibe of it all.
This gave me the same feeling as a Tim Burton movie or a messed up puppet version of Toy Story.
Such a pleasantly surprising quick read. I recommend it!
4/5
*Thank you to the author for a copy in exchange for my honest review.
This was certainly a very bizarre book...I didn't dislike it,but I wouldn't say I enjoyed it as much as I thought I would.Socks, knitting needles, baby socks, insects, bats and rats are among the many strange and wonderful things between the pages of this madly written story.🧦🧦🧶🧶🐝🦋🦇🦇🐀🐀 Can only manage to mark it with 3 ⭐⭐⭐'s
When the author reached out and made it clear this wasn't a joke, I couldn't help but say YES to a horror short story about sock puppets. Hell hath no fury like a sock puppet scorned. 🤣
In the first couple of pages or so, I wasn't sure how I was going to feel about this. Puppet erotica with all their ambitious "love-knitting". Puns abound - and I'm a lover of puns but sometimes it can be a bit *too* much. Then again, if you're reading a story about scorned sock puppet, then you're boundaries are probably not that thick. I don't even know what I'm saying now.
As the story grew further, I couldn't help but enjoy myself and rooting for Camille. I grew to enjoy the absolute punniness of it all. My favorite part is probably she tells Brad that 'She's not the right sock for you. I'm the right sock for you and you're the left for me.' I die.
This was simply a fun horror short story with sock puppet sex and revenge. What more could you ask for??
It’s difficult to describe this story but I would suggest going in blind. This was weird as fuck to my delight. A story of obsession & revenge wrapped up in 33 pages.
I was very impressed in the intricate personalities Kort was able to create in such a short read. Definitely interested in what’s to come from this author, I’ll be keeping a close eye.
I was gifted this story by the author and couldn't be more thrilled. This erotic sock puppet love triangle tale is truly Bizarro in the best way possible. Who knew sock puppets could be sexy..... What a wild ride.
Wow. This is why I love bizarro! In a nutshell it's an erotic horror comedy and also serious, all at the same time. It starts out erotic and funny and then the horror creeps in. I loved it!
