Six time BRAG Medallion Honoree, #1 Best-selling Historical Fantasy author Maria Grace has her PhD in Educational Psychology and is a 16-year veteran of the university classroom where she taught courses in human growth and development, learning, test development and counseling. She pretends to be a mild-mannered writer/cat-lady, but most of her vacations require helmets and waivers or historical costumes, usually not at the same time.

She stumbled into Jane Austen fan-dom in the mid '90s with Emma Thompson's Sense and Sensibility film, having somehow graduated HS without ever having read Austen. It was only a short leap then to consume all of Austen's works, in all their various media forms. In the hopes of discovering more works by Austen, she stumbled into the fan fiction forums, which naturally led to asking 'What if...' herself. Twenty nine books later, she still asks that question.

She writes gaslamp fantasy, historical romance and non-fiction to help justify her research addiction.

After the stunning events of the last dragon adventure and political intrigue within the Blue Order, Elizabeth Darcy, the Dragon Sage, and her family are ready for a rest on their home estate. But, with dragons, nothing is ever easy so the troubles begin nearly from the moment of their arrival. Maria Grace has penned a complex and fantastic secret world of dragons blended with the Regency world of Jane Austen’s novels. Detailed background and twisting suspenseful plots are de rigeur and I was eager to make my curtsey to the latest installment in the series.

Dragons of Pemberley is the tenth entry in a closely tied series of Gaslamp fantasy books full of romance and adventure. These are best read in order and definitely this latest is a tough place to jump in and catch onto who and what is going on.

The Darcys, Elizabeth’s sister Lydia, Fitzwilliam’s cousin Richard, and a grumpy gentleman from the Blue Order Secretary’s Office arrive with their entourage of servants and dragon companions at Pemberley for a rest and time to see to estate matters. They discover that all is not in order or well since poachers have attacked a dragon on the estate and the estate dragons are unsettled by this and more. If that weren’t enough, the Secretarial rep wants to conduct audits on Pemberley estate and Matlock where Richard’s bitter, jealous older brother is keeper and Cownt Matlock is in a fine pelter about the intrusion. Oh, and Elizabeth’s mother is screeching to the heavens about Elizabeth’s neglect toward her and her other sisters and Kitty has a questionable beau Darcy must suss out.

There are lots of plot threads, but they are easily followed. I enjoyed the secondary main plot thread with Lydia and Richard on a mission for the Order to discover who is behind the increased activity of the poaching of dragon parts and dragons in Derbyshire. Also, it was fun seeing little fire dragon Pemberley growing up and establishing herself as the main estate dragon much to Elizabeth’s consternation since the Dragon Sage is struggling not to see Pemberley as the little dragon baby she helped since hatching. In truth, Elizabeth is struggling under the need to delegate to willing and capable help as well as get past her pain in never being enough for either mother or father. Darcy quietly is there to support her even when she is mad at him.

The mystery of who is doing the dragon poaching and working with unethical apothecaries was exciting. There were some good twists. I had part of it right, but still got some good surprises along the way. With this suspenseful part of the plot, the dragon politics and fascinating new dragons to meet along with the human characters growing and learning to work together and work on their relationships, I was enthralled as usual and had a sad sigh to be finished with the book. Thankfully, there are several more books in the series to draw me in and captivate me. Gaslamp fantasy fans who like an intricate dragon world don’t want to miss this series.

Set in a Regency England with a large population of dragons. This is book ten of Maria Grace’s Jane Austen’s Dragons series.

If you choose to read the entire series, the order should be; book four, A Proper Introduction to Dragons, then books one, two, three, five, six, seven, eight and nine.

Elizabeth and Fitzwilliam Darcy are senior officers of the Blue Order.

Sir Fitzwilliam Darcy, knight of the Pendragon Order, has sworn to “protect and serve the interests of the Blue Order and dragonkind”.

Elizabeth is the Dragon Sage, respected by dragons and keepers for her skills and insight into dragon health, culture and psychology.

In this book the Darcys and their entourage, gratefully return home to Pemberley after the traumatic events of book eight.

Unfortunately, there is a great deal amiss in Derbyshire.

A black-market trade in dragon body parts, has lead to poachers preying on dragons.

Sir Richard Fitzwilliam has been tasked to investigate and chooses an unlikely ally, in Lydia Bennet, newly released from Blue Order reform school.

The discovery of an injured dragon on Pemberley grounds, reveals the attacks are disturbingly close to home.

Simultaneously, the Darcys are having to deal with a Blue Order bureaucrat, looking to find fault in the running of Pemberley and other dragon estates in Derbyshire.

To add to the pressure on Lady Elizabeth, her dragon-deaf mother and sisters are insisting on visiting Pemberley (a home where half the staff are dragons, who appear to the dragon-deaf as various animals)

Young dragon, Viscountess Pemberley is determined to take her place in protecting all the dragons on the estate and surprises the Darcys with the progress she is making.

This latest chapter in the series combines intrigue, peril, burgeoning romance and exceedingly vexing relations, both Bennet and Fitzwilliam!

I would recommend it to all fans of JAFF and fantasy.

This whole series is narrated by Benjamin Fife. His narration is very good, his voice warm and pleasing to listen to. His female voices are convincing and his dragon voices are excellent.

I look forward to more from Maria Grace.

An amazing adventure!

They expected to find peace at Pemberley and instead found intrigue and danger. An incredible journey that encompasses smuggling, Dragon persuasion, and also jealousy and envy especially from Mrs. Bennet. Make sure you have time to read it through because it is almost impossible to put it down.

I think I was expecting a nice, happy wrap up to the series. Luckily this is not that book. Elizabeth and Darcy are barely given a moment to relax when they are drawn into yet more problems. The smuggling of dragon parts, the linked stagnation of the dragon/blue order partnership, and the issue of Elizabeth’s family. I’ve said in other reviews that it’s interesting how authors approach the secondary characters; I love what Grace has done with Lydia, feel sorry for Kitty, and honestly Jane was always boring. 4.5 stars.

The Dragons of Pemberley is the tenth book in Jane Austen's Dragon series by Maria Grace. Little Dragon Pemberley is growing up to be quite the dragon and resents not being in the loop about her territory as the darcy views her as a child, not a dragon. There is a lot of intrigue and action and a few new characters to become acquainted with. Dragons, Keepers, Junior Keepers, and Undersecectraites have a lot to learn, and it remains to be seen how it all works out. Solving the issues of dragon poaching and additional family issues mixed in with dragon politics, you have the making of a great historical retelling to read.

Fantastic Narration of Lydia's Story

This doesn't look like any particular Austin story, it's more of a continuation of the characters. While I thoroughly enjoyed this one I did struggle again in this book with how some of my favorite characters continue to be portrayed in this author's version like: Jane, Bingly, and Mr. Bennett. I really have to remind myself that this is a new story to not be too upset by those changes. I do understand her logic and what she's doing with them but it still bothers me maybe a bit too much... especially with the lack of closeness between Jane and Lizzy. Outside of those personal irritations the story was very engaging, had it's own mystery, plenty of new dragons and was quite hard to put down. I still really love this series and with the cliffhanger at the end I can't wait to see where the next one goes.

I love Benjamin Fife's narration as always! you can tell he has fun with all the dragon voices, the accents, and his overall acting is top notch.

Parents- PG- middle grade and up read
Language: mild very little language, no f-bombs
Violence: none
Sexual Content- nothing to warn of- clean read

A Familiar, Predictable Romp

I have been enjoying the other books of this series, but when this title appeared in my kindle account, preordered, I thought that I wouldn’t open it just yet because of the musty prejudices against effective women and minor dragons, and the darker market in dragon parts that has been emerging - slavery and worse. A week later I have, and it starts with a fresh water dragon that has been “harvested” on the Pemberley estate being rescued from death by scavenging minor dragons by the Darcy party returning after a long absence. The old dragon Pemberley had been viciously senile before he died, and trust is to be reestablished (I enjoyed watching that happen) and the illegal traders found and uprooted (That seemed straightforward, but there are twists). A new prejudice emerges as the current adolescent dragon Young Pemberley resists being kept out of the loop by initiating her own actions in dealing with these problems, and two new romantic attachments provided rocks and rapids as I rushed alertly along with the Darcy Party to . . . the end of this episode and the start of the next. A nice ride!

I very much continue to enjoy Maria exploring the flaws and drawbacks in her crafted Regency society with a secret underworld that knows of dragons. And underworld is quite a fitting way to describe it as we pursue a smuggling ring that trades in dragon parts.

Of course, there's more than the espionage and intrigue surrounding this smuggling ring! There's also an unexpected romance I didn't see coming but that works quite well! I'm excited to see how it will progress in later books, along with the drama of the splintered Bennet family, with dragon hearers keeping secrets from the non-hearing members and the wall this creates between them.

Just a warning to make sure you're prepared with the next book in your library, as this book ends on a cliffhanger and I, for one, need to know what happens next.

After finishing 10 books, I struggle to find new to say about Fife's narration that doesn't sound like empty praise. He's excellent, his range is superb as he needs to do normal human voices for a large cast, AND high-pitched and low-pitched voices for all the dragons, using pitch to give an idea of the dragon's size.

Avid Reader

Another excellent book in the Dragon series. Once again Pemberly proves her mettle! Darcy and Elizabeth don't seem to realize that Pemberley is a dragon, not a human child. She must be told the truth when there's a problem on her territory. Instead, information is withheld from Elizabeth and in turn withheld from Pemberly. Mr. St. John isn't liked by anyone, but Pemberly states that doesn't mean that he isn't right about the problems that he sees at Pemberly like the poaching of dragons for women 's cosmetics. The Junior Keeper at Matlock is a sorry mess, and Richard finds himself falling for Lydia, and she got him. Then Kitty meets a young man who has been persuaded to like her by a dragon. Kitty actually thinks he's boring until he changes professions. The dragon-deaf Bennet members are unhappy with Darcy and Elizabeth, but she decides to go with her life because she can't change who she is. Pemberly and Cwnt Matlock show their dominance, and Pax arrives without Georgina, who is in danger.

So Happy To See The Story Back On Track

Since the last installment in this series (# 9), I was profoundly dissatisfied and actually did enter into this one rather heavily opinionated, as well as narrow-minded. I was excruciatingly tempted to give up reading the last 2 of the series.

I was relatively euphoric once I concluded in a very short space of time, this installment was aiming toward the appropriate orientation. Thank you!!

I allowed for a little patience and grace, and not long into the first chapter I was exhilarated to see the old style of penmanship, and spirited and irrepressible mode in which Grace writes so superbly based upon, which provides the distinctive manner she is known for.
Thank goodness!

Although I'm not for teasers at the end of this book, I have to admit, I did strongly wish to download the last book, #11, in the series!

4 stars full of adventure, fun, and excitement. Highly recommended for Fantasy/ Dragon lovers!

I absolutely love this series! The author, Maria Grace continues to beautifully combine an homage to Pride and Prejudice (my favourite book) with and entirely delightful and thoroughly well-conceived world of dragons.

These stories are interesting, exciting and suspenseful, while also delivering excellent character development for both the "warm-bloods" and the dragons. The dragons are all unique and engaging characters who drive the plots so well and interestingly. Before discovering this series I would have said dragons weren't my "thing", but they certainly are with this series. I love all the books in the series and find the writing and the characters absolutely charming!

This is a comfort series that I sink into and thoroughly enjoy with each new book. I hope the author has many more books planned to continue the series and I will read any next book that comes out.

Pemberley is growing up

Darcy and Elizabeth are back at the Pemberley estate hoping for some piece and quiet. Richard and Lydia are with them. They also have Mr. St John with them. Now tension starts. He is here to check all the dragon estates for their records. God forbid, anything is wrong.
Elizabeth is told a unidentified dragon is hurt. The start for the hunt of dragon poachers and killers begins. It sounds Peace is not to be had.
This is the beginning of a wonderful story, that the author, Maria Grace, is telling. Mystery, love matches, in-laws trouble, and of course dragons. Oh, don't forget, Pemberley the fire dragon, is growing up. Something Elizabeth and Darcy, don't want to admit. This is a story you won't want to put down.

ABSOLUTELY DRAGONS!!
My review of the FIRST book in this series "PEMBERLEY" goes like this:
"Great story from a good series.
Enthusiastically recommend series I just loved this book so much. This dragon world is one l would love to be part of. Pemberley was pulling my heartstrings with her attachment issues. I have an audible copy too, l have listened over and over.
The narrator is fantastic with his voices and l look forward to listening to more books by him."

Each and every book after that first one has kept me enthralled and eagerly waiting the next book. Maria Grace has a fantastic imagination and paints every detail clearly so as to play a movie in my mind, along with Benjamin Fife's narration this series is a clear winner!

After a tumultuous time in the city, with the kidnapping and the Cottilion, Elizabeth and Darcy are looking forward to quiet time at home. Well… that doesn't happen.
Secrets are revealed that cause trouble between Elizabeth and Darcy. The estate is in disorder. Poachers are attacking dragons. A family visit is a disaster. It's one thing after another.
There's also a new romance between Lydia and Sir Richard, plus Pemberley takes matters into her own, uh, paws.
The story is well-written and entertaining. All the storylines converge, but just when almost everything is resolved, cliffhanger!
Benjamin Fife's narration was outstanding as usual. There were more dragons than ever, and each had a unique voice.

During the Dragon Keepers' Cotillion, Fitzwilliam Darcy and his cousin, Richard Matlock, discovered that a group using the sign of a snapdragon were possibly involved in the smuggling of dragons and dragon parts.

Now an attack on a dragon dwelling on the grounds of Pemberley reveals that the nefarious trade has come to Derbyshire. Richard and young Lydia Bennet go undercover to investigate three potential suspects:

* An apothecary in the town of Sheffield;
* An officer of the Blue Order, temporarily staying at Pemberley; and
* A crass entrepreneur, pursuing Elizabeth's sister Kitty.

Can they discover the ringleader of the gang before more dragons are hurt ... or killed?

DRAGON BONES! WHAT A GREAT BOOK!

I tried very hard not to inhale this latest novel about my wonderful dragons. However, it was sooooo entertaining, funny, suspenseful that I swallowed this new story whole in three servings. These characters have become good friends who I love to visit over and over again. I love Walker, Earl, April, adorable Pemberly and all the wyrms....and these are just the dragons!!! It has been wonderful to see Elizabeth and Darcy grow in their marriage and struggle with realistic imperfections. No happily Ever After fairytale. Instead a journey of love for each other, their family and their beloved dragons!!

I love this series! Little Pemberley is growing up to be quite a spitfire (literally and figuratively!), and she's learning what it takes to be THE dragon of Pemberley. There's quite a lot of intrigue and action in this book, just like all the others in this series, and more characters (warm- and cold-blooded) to become acquainted with. Dragons, Keepers, Junior Keepers, and Undersecretaries have a lot to learn, and it will remain to be seen if everyone is up to the challenge. The ending had me nearly breathing fire myself, and I can't wait for the next book!

Questionable business

This story picks up where the last one ended. I really enjoyed seeing familiar characters and shared situations resurface and develop further. I must say, I really liked the new perspective Lydia had taken. It was also quite unique and …. annoying… how Mrs. Bennett and Kitty seemed to carry on. Still, it was wonderful to see many of the hidden details revealed and more happy news on the horizon. The unexpected detail at the end leads into the next story!

Another brilliant story in this series. WE catch up with Darcy. Elizabeth.Lydia. Richard and lets not forget Pemberley. On returning home they find that all is not well and they also have Mr. St John with them an overly officious member of the order who no one likes. They must now get the estate in order deal with dragon poachers and last but far for least Elizabeth and Lydia's mother.
This story ahas plenty of intrigue and danger and held my attention from start to finish.

The narration is excellent

Another Wonderful Tale

This was another wonderful and delightful continuation of this series. I loved Lydia's character and was not really happy with Kitty and Mrs Bennett. Looking forward to the next. Strap yourself in for the wonders of all the dragons . All my senses were engaged in reading this book, my way of recommending this book as a winner. Great series look forward to the next. oh my goodness!

After so many books, I did not think there could be a more involved story yet here it is! Perhaps one of the best written yet, there is much to learn, ponder, enjoy and puzzle in this book. I do have to say when I saw the decreasing number of pages coming way too fast, I nearly gave the book a 1. Lol, I will get over my anxiety as soon as the new book is in my hands! Well done!

and we’re off!

Maria Grace has a deft hand when it comes to weaving in dragons into Austen’s world. I’ve eagerly devoured each book in this series.

Elizabeth and Darcy are back home for, what they hope will be, a pleasant, quiet time. But just as most dragons adore Elizabeth so does Trouble.

Dragon poachers are the problem. Braid that into family issues and dragon issues and you have a very good book.

Now where’s book 11?

I'm really enjoying this series. I think the dragon world that Maria Grace has created is fantastic. Just one pet peeve: since Pemberly hatched, at least two years have passed. Why is she still talking baby talk? She is growing up, learning how to manage her estate, etc. I know the baby talk is cute, but it's time to leave it behind.

Loved it

I loved the way the author crafted this story. I loved the dragon side of the story, but I really loved Lydia's redemption arc from the silly, selfish, child to a mature, perceptive, considerate, intelligent young woman. And all without losing her vivacity and good humor.

I don't want to say more because I could too easily spoil something for someone.
