Sweet Baby Jesus, Kaden Barnes is on sexy boss. He's a dominating alpha that requires special touch. He's not an easy man to get to know, let alone love.
Lexie Parker hasn't always had the easiest of lives, but she determined to make this job work. She's heard Kade is a difficult boss, but she's not going to let him intimidate her.

This book is incredibly delicious. Kade, even with this quirks, is astonishingly sexy. You can't help but fall in love him, the man behind the money. His heart is bigger than anyone realizes, and the way he fights to protect those he loves is such a turn on.
I adore Lexie's smart wit and loyalty. Her devotion to her family is commendable, even if it makes her want to scream from time to time. But when she finally decides that her life is more than protecting her family, he can't help but shout for joy for her.
The connect that Kade and Lexie have is stunning. From their first encounter, you can feel the sparks fly. Their desires will heat up your night and leave you sated and contented.
This book is beautifully writing and a perfect get away from the humdrum of everyday life.

This was a sweet story, and I enjoyed getting to know these characters. There were a lot of complexities to them and it made the story an intriguing one. I wish I could have rated it higher, because I really did like the story, but there was just something missing that made me kind of meh about it. I feel like we didn't learn everything there was to know about Kaden and Lexi, so it made it hard to connect to them. Bottom line, I would recommend this book to anyone that likes an easy, cute story.

Not really an overkill. If the couple gets married after 3 months then I usually have to get back from eye-rolling myself into oblivion before writing a review.
This book is for you if… your level of boredom could be treated with literally anything, even a absolutely predictable unauthentic romance.

I LOVED THE BOOK!!!
This was a really cute and sexy office romance with some very serious parts like anxiety, bipolar disorder, etc.
The whole insta-lust thing was a tiny little bit too insta-quick, but it's a pretty short romance, so it was totally acceptable.
I really enjoyed reading it.
Kade is so adorably sexy and broken and ugh, you just want to cuddle him!
And poor Lexie with all the responsibility that should not be hers but her parents.
Those two sad and lonely people have finally found their other half.
But they have a few obstacles to overcome first of course...
GOING DOWN EASY was a very sexy & adorable romance about two lonely people who can finally see their Happily Ever After on the horizon!! Perfect Quick-Summer-Beach-Read

Some books are just good. They are the kind of books you finish and you wouldn't change a thing about them; the ones where you reach out to the author (and jump up and down with excitement because she replied) to tell them that the book was THAT GOOD.
Romance novels get earmarked into what is expected and so many of them stay within those boundaries. And, this is ok. I enjoy the genre even with it's rules and expected story lines. Part of what I love about the genre is the knowledge you will get a HEA at the end. But, every once in a while, one not only hits all the expected points but goes deeper, gives you more than you expect, and Going Down Easy did exactly this.
It was perfect, it was better than THAT GOOD. The characters were so well rounded, the writing was wonderful, the plotting was paced so the balance of the romance between Kaden and Lexie and their own lives was spot on. I never felt that one was being ignored to explore the other. The romance was developed, who they are within that relationship was well developed, and who they are within their previously separate personal lives was also perfect. The depth of character in each of the areas really allowed you to relate to the characters as you read, so the book had even more "feels" than you often find in the genre.
Carly Phillips has been a favorite of mine for longer than I would like to admit. Her stories are always enjoyable, her characters relatable, the chemistry is always hot. But there was just something about this one that sets it above all of the others of hers that I have read.
Maybe it was Kaden, the struggles that he deals with, that made this top the list for me. I know it made him relatable in a way that you often don't find in books. I was drawn to his strength and his ability to overcome. So many people in his situation would have given up, would not have pushed on.
I was drawn to his loyalty to his friends, to the things that he was willing to give up in order to make sure those he care about were not hurt by things in his past. I can't really say more without a spoiler, but lets just say there was a part of this where his strength and his willingness to do anything for his friends came together in such a way that I was teary. And the watch. Oh my, the watch. Again, more would be a spoiler, but oh my, the strength the forgiveness took there? Oh my...so much deeper than just the surface. But the whole book was so much deeper than what was on the surface.
I was also drawn to Lexie and how deeply she loves those she cares about. How willing she is to take them as they are, to love them with their faults and flaws. You can't help but like someone who is this accepting and willing to allow the people around her to be who they are and to just accept them. This is what draws Kaden to her, this knowledge that she will accept him, that she does and already knows the dark pieces of him, but is there anyway.
I could go on. In fact, I already have and at this point, I have run out of ways to say it was perfect, so I am going to stop by saying that you need to read this. If you are a fan of Phillps, you are going to LOVE this. If you are new to her work, know you will be starting at the very best she has ever written.

Lexie Parker is the perfect big sister in the world; she had to take care of her mother (who is riddled with a mental illness) and has now given so much up in her adult life for her sister, who also has issues of her own. Not being able to have a life and even maintain a job has been something she has desired for so long. When her dad helps her get a job at a company he is a financial donor to, she knows she has to do everything to keep it. Even if it means putting up with the bear that she will have of a boss she has heard about....
Kaden Barnes hasn't had an easy life. He's dealt with loss, on multiple levels, and now has to go through life with an anxiety disorder that robs him of breathing at times. Keeping a personal assistant is not a strong point for him, and he's ok with that. Come in and leave - then he doesn't have to worry about anything. However when he finds Lexie in his office for the first time, leaving is the last thing on his mind for this one.
I absolutely loved this book. Carly Phillips is one of my favorite authors because she never fails to leave me with tears in my eyes and a completely full heart. She also isn't scared to tread on taboo topics, this book being full of them. Both these characters in Going Down Easy had issues. Showing how they compensated their issues throughout this book, to find one another? *Le sigh*!! Kade and Lexie were probably some of the most well developed characters I have read in awhile. They showed their weaknesses and battled through them, in every day life situations. And of course, the angst and chemistry in the book were HOT! Throw in some suspense, and you have one amazing read in this one!

So, I thought his books was going to be your typical office romance, but surprisingly, there are some serious topics discussed and it brought a lot more depth to the story.
Kaden Barnes is in need of an assistant. He’s a rich brilliant businessman and extremely tough to please. In comes Lexie Parker, his new assistant. The rule is never mix business with pleasure, but Kaden can’t resist his sexy assistant. Can this office romance last?
I always enjoy a good office/forbidden romance story and I definitely enjoyed watching Lexie and Kaden battle it out. I would have liked a little more foreplay/push and pull between the two before they give into their desires, but it was still a great read and I could feel how drawn they are to one another.
Additionally, the story touches on mental illness which is a really serious subject. It’s discussed in a very tactful and considerate manner. Lexie’s twin sister is bipolar and she takes care of her. She sacrifices her whole life…her career and personal relationships because she spends so much time caring for her. It’s wearing her down, but her bond with her twin is powerful and she loves her sister. I completely respect her for her dedication and I’m glad she finds Kaden who shows her that she has to put herself first sometimes.
“Some people consider mental illness a stigma, something to be ashamed of. She thought of it is as chronic illness, a burden to bear when it wasn’t controlled, and merely another facet of someone’s life when it was.”
Kaden has his own struggles and I like that he has his weaknesses too. It makes Lexie and Kaden real characters that people can relate to. I honestly think I related to Kaden the most. Lexie was perfect for him. She understood him and accepted him just as he is.
Overall, this was quick read. It had a beautiful love that centers the story and it touches on some more serious issues without overtaking the story. I also really enjoyed Kaden’s two best friends. I have a soft spot for boys and how they bond with one another. I just love it! So, I hope the next bad boy book features one of them. I’m looking forward to the next one! Happy reading =)

When I first saw this cover I KNEW I had to sign up for this tour. I then prayed to the book nerd Gods that the inside would measure up to the hotness that the cover delivered and I am pleased to say it did!
It's been a while since I have read a Carly Phillips books. I read a few of her earlier books and found them to be a bit tame for my preference. I'm a lover of high steam and needed more. I took a chance that maybe her later writing had improved a bit in that aspect and I was blown away to discover she now writes right up my alley.
Kade and Lexie are a hot boss/employee relationship. Lexie needed a job and becoming Kade's PA fit the bill at the time. She had a ton of family issues. Her sister and mother had mental illnesses that really ate up a lot of her time both emotionally and physically. This book was about finding her own road to her own happiness.
Kade was no stranger to mental illness. He had been ostracized by his own mother due to his quirks and no longer trusted that women stuck around after having been burned too many times.
There were quite a few twists and drama packed into this one too. Thought it never distracted me from what I love to read about: the couple.

It's been a while since I have read a Carly Phillips books. I read a few of her earlier books and found them to be a bit tame for my preference. I'm a lover of high steam and needed more. I took a chance that maybe her later writing had improved a bit in that aspect and I was blown away to discover she now writes right up my alley.
Kade and Lexie are a hot boss/employee relationship. Lexie needed a job and becoming Kade's PA fit the bill at the time. She had a ton of family issues. Her sister and mother had mental illnesses that really ate up a lot of her time both emotionally and physically. This book was about finding her own road to her own happiness.
Kade was no stranger to mental illness. He had been ostracized by his own mother due to his quirks and no longer trusted that women stuck around after having been burned too many times.
There were quite a few twists and drama packed into this one too. Thought it never distracted me from what I love to read about: the couple.
I recommend this one for people who like a good romance with high steam and low angst.

Going down easy by Carly Phillips is a fun, steamy and light romance. It's perfect for rainy autmn days when all you want is wrap yourself in a blanket and just read.
It's a story of Kaden Barnes and Lexie Parker - a billionaire and his assistant.
To some it could seem to be just a romance but it has more depth. It touches the problems of family, who goes first and trust. Sometimes it's difficult to trust other person and put your needs at first but Carly Phillips shows us a perfect story of how it can be solved.
I loved main heroes. Their banter was hilarious. So many times I was shocked by Kadenbeing an ass and Lexi's ability to put up with it.
Kaden is a strong independent men whose trust is very diffucult to earn but once you get it - you have it for life. He was burned and he has his issues but all can be overcome. And his loyalty to his friends was what hooked me.
Lexi is a caring selfless girl. Her love to her sister deserves a lot of praise. She is ready to sacrifice everything just to make her happy. I liked her ability to stand her ground but be caring and flexible at the same time.
All in all I liked this novel. For me it had everything in it and I'm so glad it made me warm on a cold rainy autumn day. Thank you, Carly Phillips, for that!

I loved this it was sexy, sweet, and romantic. Sometimes I found myself hysterically laughing. Lexie is a strong girl and didn't take any of Kade's bs.

Kaden Barnes is a complex man. On the surface he’s a young billionaire running a company with his best friends after they struck it rich with the creation of a social media app. He comes off as arrogant and demanding, having gone through a slew of assistants that have not met up to his exacting standards, but in reality his need for control is how he copes with deeper personal issues.
Lexie Parker is given the job of Kaden’s assistant as a favour to her father, a major investor. Lexie has had a difficult life and has struggled to find work due to the fact that she is the caregiver for her mentally unwell sister who requires a lot of her time and support. She is desperate to start living her own life, so she throws herself into her new role, happy to put up with any kind of behaviour from her new boss if it means she has a job.
From the beginning we can see that Kaden and Lexie are attracted to each other, and it’s only a matter of days before they act on it.
What I really liked about this hook up is that once they actually admitted their attraction to each other, there was no game playing and no pretence. They wanted each other, they discussed how it would impact upon their work together, and they went right ahead, starting something that they both had every intention of making work.
Their physical connection is intense and emotions soon follow, with Lexie and Kaden opening up to each other, and I liked the honesty, understanding and support that they show each other. But will their blossoming romance be able to survive the demands that Lexie is under, and the threat to all that Kaden has built when his past comes back to haunt him?
It’s a good set up and I went into this book with high hopes, but sadly it didn’t work for me. I’m a sucker for billionaire stories with intense love stories but in this case I just didn’t feel it. Maybe it’s because it was such a quick read, but the chemistry didn’t sizzle for me, and I found the storyline very predictable with coincidence upon coincidence that had me rolling my eyes; and coupled with the speed and intensity of the romance, I never got invested in the story.
This is a really quick read, but I really struggled to finish this book. It’s only 179 pages, yet it took me four days to read it because every time I picked it up I would end up falling asleep. I almost DNF’d it, but persevered to see how it all ended, and it does end well. Everything is resolved and there is a sweet happy ending, I just wanted more.

This is the story of Lexie and Kaden, two persons who have no one to look after them.
I really liked this story! Although there was insta-attraction, it wasn't feeling fake or over the top. The plot had a couple twists although it was easy to figure it out. Ms. Phillips writes beautifully! The writing was really pleasant.
Lexie is an amazing heroine. She is looking after her twin-sister and forgets how to live her life with the necessary consequences. I admire her because I don't know anyone who would put the well-being of a sibling in front of their personal happiness and Lexie was doing just that! Everything for her sister. Lexie is also loyal and hard working and there was nothing that annoyed me about her!
Kaden is also a great hero. He has his issues and he is aware of them but these issues are not an obstacle in his life and his career. What really touched me about Kaden was his willingness to sacrifice his personal well-being in order to protect the ones he loves. Again, like Lexie, I don't know anyone who was willing to do something like that. Kaden had also a fire burning inside of him in everything he did. At least it felt like this for me and he really got me for that!
The interactions among Lexie and Kaden were fantastic! There was tension, passion, honesty and fun! Their chemistry was beautiful to feel and read about.
The end of the book was great as well! I've enjoyed every single bit of it and I cannot wait to read the next installment of this series!
I definitely recommend this book to everyone who like a nice romance!

Carly Phillips does it again! I mean really is there anything this lady can't write about it and make it a fantastic read? The characters in this book not only had the boss vs. employee issue, the new relationship exploration, but also mental illness in a couple different forms to wreak havoc. Kudos to Ms. Phillips for allowing the natural drama in these situations to present themselves without ramping it up and making it so angsty it's hard to read. That is probably my biggest annoyance in any book. I hate forced and unnecessary drama. Carly Phillips navigates through these potential pitfalls like the professional she is.
Kaden Barnes was a troubled, yet sexy and strong character. His anxiety and obsessive compulsive disorders didn't make him weak in the slightest. Actually, I admired his strength and bravery through just about everything life threw at him. He was a loyal friend and a fantastic lover to Lexie. The sparks between this couple sizzled, but the easy going relationship and mutual respect definitely took a front seat to everything else. They just kind of found one another and slipped right into a comfortable routine.
Lexie Parker was amazing! The poor woman spent her whole life thrown into a caretaker role one way or another. Her mother suffered from depression and then her twin sister was diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Since her father catered to their mother Lexie was left as her sister's keeper. This role definitely affected her personal and professional life, but Lexie never held it over her sister's head. At first when she met Kaden my fear was that Lexie shouldn't be thrown into another role as someone's keeper, but I feel like Ms. Phillips did a good job at proving Kaden's ability to care for himself. Yes, he had a certain way he wanted things and he had staff take care of this, but he had the money to provide this luxury so I don't blame him.
All in all this book was a great start to the Billionaire Bad Boys series. I'm looking forward to reading more about Kaden's partners and learning of their stories.

A new series from Carly Phillips? Ah, YES PLEASE! I've only read a couple of other books my this author, and I've loved both of them, so I knew GOING DOWN EASY would be right up my alley. You may see that the series is titled BILLIONAIRE BAD BOYS, but GOING DOWN EASY is not your standard, run of the mill billionaire romance. It's SO MUCH MORE than that! It's got depth, heart, and AMAZING lovable characters! If you are looking for a passionate and emotional office romance read, THIS is your ticket!

Not only was this a mouth-watering and heartfelt romance, but it is a romance that raises awareness to mental illness, whether it's in the family, or one struggling with their inner demons. Lexie and Kaden's story brought tears to my eyes and a beautiful fullness to my heart. Kaden Barnes was an EPIC hero in my book. The risk he took, the selflessness that I felt from him was astounding and he made my heart flutter with each turn of the page. Lexie, our heroine, was strong, sassy, and bold. She held her own with her stubborn boss, and that is what ultimately caught his eye and made him fall harder than ever.
This was a love story that just made me happy! This feel good romance left me with a bursting heart, and dried up tears. I can't wait for book two in the series, GOING DOWN FAST, which is Lucas Monroe's story. I have a feeling I'm going to fall hard for this billionaire bad boy FOR SURE!

The book continues on that Lexie's father has invested in a company who have created this app called BLINK. Lexie becomes the personal assistant for the arrogant , sexy as hell , pain in the ass , panty wetter CEO who's name is Kaden. What a sexy name that is . Am I right !
There are another two partners in this book that you will learn about and also they will be receiving a book off there own . So stay tuned for there books as well . You will not regret it .
There is an instant attraction on both sides and lots and lots of chemistry . These two have so much in common with there families and themselves . Both are not in the market to start a relationship .

Going down easy felt different from all the other Carly Phillips books I have read so far. I liked reading it just as much as I have liked the others thought. The book isn't just about an office romance. It had a few slightly predictable twists, but it also deals with some serious psychological issues. I must admit that at first I felt weird with having three people dealing with OCD, depression or being bipolar since most authors usually have only one character with some kind of issue, but I got used to it as time passed.
The time flew by while I was reading the book. I enjoyed the fact that Lexi and Kade didn't break up over a over the top dramatic and silly reason. For me it was solid and believable. Lexi is a great heroine. She is very likeable and I was happy to see her standing up for herself and stopping being her sisters babysitter. She has somethgin unique that I cannot find the words to describe. She also has the patience someone would need if they need to live with Kade. What I liked about Kade is the way he would sacrifice whatever he had to in order to keep things from getting ruined. He gained a lot of respect when he decided that he wouldn't make Lexi choose between him and her sister.
I would recommend the book without a second thought. It's not just an office romance and the subplots were very interesting. I liked Kade's friends and I will gladly wait for their books to come. If you decide to read it on the beach or the balcony of your home, you will have a great time.

Lexie is unable to keep a job because her twin sister (Kendall) is bipolar and essentially controls Lexie's life. Lex lands herself a new job as an assistant to a cranky billionaire who is co-owner of a fancy app. Kaden is grouchy and has his own "quirks". He's never able to keep an assistant because he's so picky and cranky. They meet and it's insta-lust. Lexie gets him because she's used to dealing with her jackass sister. He's in awe of this woman who isn't afraid to stand up to him and also embraces his differences - but he has a history of being betrayed by women.
They fall in love, an enemy comes after Kaden, the sister f*cks things up for Lexie, bada bing, bada boom - HEA.
This kind of book is frustrating for me because Lexie does come off as a doormat; however, I seriously took into account that the sister is bipolar and her twin. I have some experience with the bipolar part and I'm going to cut Lex a little bit of slack. Had Lexie actually yelled at her sister at least ONCE, I'd have given this a 4. I get her sister has issues, but for Lexie to just NEVER react to anything seemed like a stretch.
There is some sex. More talking about sex than actually performing it. Stupid condom use until the very end.

That's a no from me. The writing style was ok but I found this book to be insulting to women.
So apparently this guy has been screwed over by all the women in his life - his mother, a girl in college and another girlfriend. The girl in college made a false rape accusation. It really annoys me when authors use that as a scenario because only 1.5% of rape accusations are false (from an Australian source; it looks like in the US it's 2-4% which is still low!). So I find it to be a lazy and insulting example of a villainous woman. The author then states "because of lies like Lila's, true victims were afraid they wouldn't be believed". Actually I think you'll find it's shame (from victim blaming), fear of retaliation, helplessness, denial/ trying to minimise it etc. that prevent rape victims from coming forward.
I'm not sure why authors insist on going down the 'you're not like other women' BS path. It's one of the things that annoys me most in chic-lit. Exes don't have to be psychos you know. Most people have exes just because they're not meant to be together or the timing wasn't right. In this book we get: 'she was different from the women in his past - from her honesty to her caring nature, Lexie was unique' (yeah because the rest of us ladies are selfish pathological liars). And 'he had his past breathing down his neck, a reminder of what kind of betrayal the females in his life brought him and a threat to his future'. Only Lexie the apparent paragon of virtue (a martyr in my opinion) was good enough for him.
It may look like I'm reading too much into a fictional story but these themes are way too common in books that are supposedly written for women.
So apparently this guy has been screwed over by all the women in his life - his mother, a girl in college and another girlfriend. The girl in college made a false rape accusation. It really annoys me when authors use that as a scenario because only 1.5% of rape accusations are false (from an Australian source; it looks like in the US it's 2-4% which is still low!). So I find it to be a lazy and insulting example of a villainous woman. The author then states "because of lies like Lila's, true victims were afraid they wouldn't be believed". Actually I think you'll find it's shame (from victim blaming), fear of retaliation, helplessness, denial/ trying to minimise it etc. that prevent rape victims from coming forward.
I'm not sure why authors insist on going down the 'you're not like other women' BS path. It's one of the things that annoys me most in chic-lit. Exes don't have to be psychos you know. Most people have exes just because they're not meant to be together or the timing wasn't right. In this book we get: 'she was different from the women in his past - from her honesty to her caring nature, Lexie was unique' (yeah because the rest of us ladies are selfish pathological liars). And 'he had his past breathing down his neck, a reminder of what kind of betrayal the females in his life brought him and a threat to his future'. Only Lexie the apparent paragon of virtue (a martyr in my opinion) was good enough for him.
It may look like I'm reading too much into a fictional story but these themes are way too common in books that are supposedly written for women.

Ohhhh I am ashamed to say this is my first Carly Phillips book, but I can tell you it wont be my last. My Gaaawwwddddddd this book had all the feels.....I mean Kaden Barnes...could anyone be more sexier. I mean all is idiosyncrasies make him that much hotter. HOT billionaire (check) a man that knows what he wants (check) a gentleman when he wants to be (check) in control at all times (check) I mean I could go on.....lol. In walks Lexie Parker, the girl next door, who is all to eager to please and is not easily intimidated. Lexie throws Kaden off his game, but in a very good way. She challenges him at every turn and that surprises him. He did not account for actually having feelings for Lexie once he got to know her better, she makes him want to be a better man, a man who opens his heart up to her. I LUUUBBBBBBBB this story so much and Lexie is the nicest most patient girl in the world. I can not wait for the next book.

Five Amazing Stars! Lexie is a great daughter and sister caring for both of them which in turn makes it difficult to hold a full time job. Then her father gets her a job with a boss who supposedly isn't very nice and she knows that she must keep it. Kaden has problems with anxiety that can get bad at times which in turn makes things difficult at work. One day when he comes in and sees Lexie, things change. Will Lexie be able to change things for Kaden and definitely change things for the better? Ms. Phillips knows how to write great stories and she did an amazing job with this one. I loved the characters and found their chemistry was great! This is a book you will want to one click on! Highly recommend!

Another winner by Carly Phillips!
Kade and Lexie have issues. Real issues. Lexie has put her life on hold to care for her twin sister who is bipolar. And Kade has anxiety problems and is a bit OCD and that makes him hard to be around. Yet when they meet, the connection is immediate and doesn't diminish. Kade was a bit of a jerk to Lexie, but I think that goes with mental issues and his history. Doesn't make it right, just sort of justifies it. Thankfully Lexie was able to see past his words. I loved that Kade was willing to walk away to let Lexie take care of her sister. And I loved that Lexie finally realized she deserved more than to be the sole caregiver to her sister.
I hope we get to see more of Lexie and Kade in the rest of the series :)

Going Down Easy was the first book in the Billionaire Bad Boys series by Carly Phillips.
Kaden Barnes was a successful entrepreneur. He started Blink, a tech app, with two of his college best friends and they were now billionaires. He was gorgeous, a genius, geeky and quirky with ADHD and anxiety disorders. He also had baggage from his past. As a result, he was demanding, brooding, hard to work with and distrusting.
Lexie Parker was a twin. She was smart, beautiful and loyal. But she was also the full time care giver for her bi-polar twin. As a result, it was difficult to keep a job and impossible to have a life.
Lexie needed a job, again. One of her father’s business investments needed an executive assistant so she was starting over again. Kaden Barnes ran off every assistant. He was fortunate if they lasted a week. Enter Lexie. She needed this job and she was willing to go toe to toe with Kaden to keep it.
I liked the premise of the story. Phillips developed the relationship but she also brought living with mental illness to the forefront. She painted the picture of the real life struggle and the impact on those around them. It brought a human aspect into the storyline for added depth and dimension.
In the end, it was a quick and enjoyable read. Kaden’s business partners, Lucas and Derek, will complete the series. I loved the loyalty and bantering among the three. Lucas is up next in Going Down Fast.

I was immediately swept up in the story and developed INSTA-LOVE for Kaden Barnes AKA the most arrogant, gruffly sexy, pain-in-the-butt boss ever! He needs calm and order in his life to function properly, and Kaden goes through his personal assistants like candy because most can’t tolerate his mood swings or his ridiculous demands. That is, until his pretty new-hire, Lexi Parker, breezes into his office and meets each challenge without batting an eye! Although he is distrustful of women, for good reason, there is just something about this sassy brunette that burrows into his jaded heart and stirs a raging inferno inside of him!
Mixing business with pleasure in the workplace is never a good idea, but nevertheless, Kaden aches to ravish Lexi's pillowy lips and bury himself in her sweet, tempting curves. Still he reigns in his volcanic desires because her no-nonsense attitude rubs him the wrong way. But Lexie, who desperately needs this job and cannot afford to be fired, refuses to be intimated by Kaden’s growly, overbearing attitude and he can't help but be impressed because she's the first secretary who calls him out on his boorish behavior and sees beyond his gruff, taciturn exterior to the hint of raw vulnerably breath the surface.
Lexi appeals to him on many levels and she slowly but surely earns his grudging respect and admiration. This high-spirited office romance about two polar opposites who fall irresistibly in love while shouldering enormous emotional burdens is in my opinion the author’s finest work to date. Fashioned as always with her trademark charm and high octane sensuality, Ms. Phillips upped her game with this sensitive depiction of protagonists whose lives have both been profoundly touched by mental illness. I found this book not only highly entertaining, smoking hot and hyper emotional but also deeply impactful. By portraying a swoony alpha hero afflicted with ADHD and anxiety, she helps lift the stigma often associated with mental illness. This book struck a personal chord in me because it mirrored elements of my own life. Some moments resonated so deeply, in fact, that they moved me to tears.
I also thought the development of the characters was top notch. Ms. Phillips always writes the most deliciously dominant Alpha billionaires, but “Cranky Kaden” is special and unique. He is no cardboard caricature hero who throws his weight around merely for the sport of it. He has valid reasons for being so set in his ways, and I loved his inner frailty and unorthodox charm as much as his domineering personality and raw, potent masculinity. And Lexie with her sass, sweetness and spunk, kindness and gentle compassion, just tugged at my heart. In fact, she just might be my favorite Carly Phillips heroine EVER!!!
The evolution of Kaden and Lexi's relationship from sparring partners to devoted, passionate lovers is breathtaking. They click immediately and despite their bickering, they have more in common than they think. We savor each beat of their tender-hearted romance and it is truly a sweet, slow build to true love. The sparks between the characters intensify until they reach a fever pitch, so when they finally cave to their all-consuming attraction, it's well worth the wait! There are deep layers of emotional complexity, palpable tension and angsty feels throughout, and the intricately crafted climax is chock full of shockwaves, heartbreak, passion and fiery emotion.
Final verdict... a brilliant Billionaire Bad Boys series debut that provides not only the perfect blissful escape but is laced with an undercurrent of powerful realism too!
