The Dukedom of the Beast

Rate this book
Lady Nancy Bolton was everything a Duke’s daughter should be: beautiful, mild-mannered, and with an advantageous marriage already planned. Until her reputation was irreparably ruined.

For Philip Wallace, Duke of Peterhum, the vicious attack that took his parents, left its scars not only on his soul but his skin as well. Shunned by the same society that once welcomed him, he comes out of his self-imposed exile to try and save Nancy from the same fate.

However, when she goes inexplicably missing, Philip is terrified to see the horrors of his past come alive once again. Desperate to get to her before it’s too late, Philip must become what people have been accusing him of being for years. For every beauty needs her beast to protect her from everything but him.

An easy read, this was short and simple. While completely predictable, this book did its job well. I liked our main characters and their story. I certainly would have liked to see them spend more time together and less time watching cliche murder attempts but you win some, you lose some. I think this book makes for a great palate cleanser between books.

Jumpy Development

The story idea was good, and the direction of character growth was good, but the execution was a bit jumpy. The story would seem to be progressing well, but then it would suddenly be interrupted to jump to a scene a little in the future, leaving the character development and story to feel too quickly progressed.

Nancy

I loved the way the writer made the storyline . I never guessed who the culprit for for these bad events till the end. I loved Nancy and Phillip’s character’s despite the fact that in the beginning they were not friendly.

I am trying to extend my scope of literature read in 2021.

The Dukedom of the Beast met my criteria. It has a non predictable story line. It kept me looking for the bad guys and understanding what drives both the haves and have nots.

I will not give you a book report but simply put this out to whet your interest and say, " Try it."

The author uses words to paint pictures. I could see this as a fun movie. There are some misplaced words. It is as if the author changed the order of words in a sentence but forgot to remove the originals. I have the bad habit of doing this when creating.

I am sure Tiffany Baton will be on my radar this year

I wish to thank Tiffany Baton for allowing me to read this book. I have voluntarily read and reviewed it. All thoughts and opinions are my own.

Set in the Regency era a young girl is betrothed and caught in a compromising situation. This results in her intended ending their relationship. Her family now must find a suitable, willing man to marry her to save them from disgrace. This book is well written with lots of action and intrigue. If you like period romances with mystery woven in, this book is for you.

Nancy seems to be snakebit in love. Betrothed, repudiated, smeared, she has given up on marriage, however evil lurks and tries to take advantage of her situation. Luckily she has a guardian angel, but that luck seems to get attacked over and over. Seems like everything she touches gets hurt. Somehow the truth gets uncovered in a plot that has been in the making a long time and all the ill intentions get uncovered, and a few pluses are gained for her mom and dad also. Fast read, sweet story, somewhat tragic but love overcomes.

It was an Ok story but just lacked something. Both characters have been scarred in some form or another. He had known her as a child and when he hears about her downfall he decides to help. Unfortunately for them both evil is afoot and both their lives as well as family members are in danger.

A clean story. A short novella about a betrothed lady, Nancy, who through no fault of her own is accosted on her own by a less than savoury Viscount at a ball and promptly dumped by her betrothed, a Marquis. To avoid scandal her father says she should marry the Viscount, but a former childhood friend, hearing of the scandal decides to court her instead. His parents were murdered when he was younger and he was facially scarred and so deposed by the ton. Then both he and Nancy start being attacked. It was nice story, even though as ever the uncle is the villain as he wanted the Dukedom! I liked the way Nancy and the Duke grew towards each other. There were some things that did not sit right with me, references to a Fire Service - I don’t think that would have existed as such in the countryside, and Nancy called her mother ‘Ma’. Surely for a family that tried to be so correct it would have been ‘Mother’ or possibly ‘Mama’, ‘Ma’ seems a little common to me. There are other things, such as would her maid really have been her chaperon at a ball, and it wasn’t clear why her betrothed immediately dropped her and did not believe her about what had happened. It would have been nice to seen him meet up again with Nancy and have to bow and be respectful following her marriage and out ranking him as a Duchess. However, not withstanding the issues I enjoyed it hence the 4 stars.

Enjoyable story about beauty who was "ruined" through no fault of her own while trying to help her sick maid and the "beast" who was scarred during a break-in to his home in which his parents were killed. Philip was an old childhood friend of Nancy's brother and they were always together until he went away to school. Now, he is a hermit because of his scars and when he heard of Nancy's trouble he offered to court her to save her reputation. There were several mishaps and Philip started wondering if they were related to his parents deaths. Who broke in years ago and why, and who is causing the problems now and why? Surprising answers.

Beautiful Nancy, betrothed to a man of her dreams, is suddenly dumped when another hits on her when she is aiding her sick maid at a ball. Her parents wants her to marry the culprit who is a rake but her scarred childhood friend comes through to court her. Unfortunately, she becomes a target of attacks soon after. A clean but somewhat unrealistic action-packed Regency era suspense story with a mystery that needs to be solved.

Squeaky-clean romance was pleasant to read. Unfortunately, there were a few problems.
There were some potential villains introduced at the beginning of the book, they just went poof--never to be seen again. I was very annoyed by the heroine being called "Lady Bolton" instead of "Lady Nancy." Lastly, the story would have benefited from a bit of steam! I could actually recommend this book to my grandmother LOL

What a page turner of a novel. Not only was Nancy in trouble from her attack at the ball, but her engagement was ended through no fault of her own. Then out of the blue Philip, the Duke of Peterham, wants to start courting her. As they get closer together trouble follows them leading to Nancy and her mother being kidnapped. Now Philip is desperate to find Nancy as he realises he loves her. Luckily all ends well and Philip and Nancy find their happily ever after.

I enjoyed this Beauty and the Beast-inspired story. It was a clean read, and I admired both the hero and the heroine. I found the reconciliation between the heroine's parents a little far-fetched, but it didn't affect my appreciation of the book. I devoured it in 2 days and enjoyed it to the end.

Nancy and Philip’s struggle to happiness

Nancy and Philip’s struggle to happiness
He looked beyond the scars to see her true person and she bloomed as her self doubt and fears changed into a better loving person. As his own scars and fears faded away. With mystery, intrigue and danger to challenge them. Outstanding story. Don't miss reading the keeper.

Loved the book!

Some murder and mayhem mixed with scandal and in the end true love is found. A recluse remembers his friend from childhood and surprises her when he offers to court her after hearing her name linked to scandal. They face many hardships in their courtship.

Nancy finds true love 💕

New to me author! Very exciting, action packed story….which I didn’t expect for a regency book! But very well written. I enjoyed reading this and especially liked the ending as well as the bonus epilogue.

Ruined

Phillip and his family were attacked and he was left badly scared and as usual the Ton turned their backs on him. And Nancy was disgraced by an unsavory man. But then Phillip comes to the rescue.

Very entertaining read

The story is great all the way through. A few dark moments mixed with lots of anticipation, culminating with great joy at the end. The formality takes a bit of getting used to, but adds to the story. Read an enjoy. Look

Amazing story!

I disliked how unfair Nancy was treated. I read the book in one sitting. Couldn't put it down until the end. I recommend this book for anyone that has lost hope in love and in future situations. When a door closes others open.

A very predictable story. And, after reading two in a row, I am now convinced that I don't need to read any more of Ms. Baton's books. I am sure the rest will be the same.

Ruth Cunningham (maid/chaperone) was trying to calm Lady Nancy Bolton (Philip’s daughter) down.
Marquess Timothy Lockhart (eligible suitor, Honeyfield) had arrived at the gala event.
He told Ruth he would have Lady Bolton back soon.
They danced.

Viscount Geralt Hodge tried to step in.
Marquess Lockhart called off the engagement.
Osmond (butler) announced the arrival of Duke Philip Wallace (father, Peterhum) to visit Lady Bolton.
Lady Bolton hollered at Ruth (maid) to call for a physician.
Duke Wallace had been shot.
Someone was trying to murder Lady Bolton.

What does Uncle Jeremy Wallace know about the incident?

An awesome book cover, great font & writing style. A very professionally written medieval thriller book. It was quite easy for me to read/follow from start/finish & never a dull moment. There were no grammar/typo errors, nor any repetitive or out of line sequence sentences. Lots of exciting scenarios, with several twists/turns & a great set of unique characters & facts to keep track of. This could also make another great medieval thriller movie, or better yet a mini-TV series. There is no doubt in my mind this is an amazingly easy rating of 5 stars.

This is the first book that I have read by Tiffany but it won't be the last. I thought that she wrote a very good storyline. Out of tragedy comes beauty and the beast. Only he wasn't a beast but a man who society had turned against because of the murder of his parents ad a scar that ensued because of that night. There is mystery and awareness of life after tragedy. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone interested in a good read. I received this ARC in exchange for a voluntary honest review which I have freely written here

Good story, well written although there are a couple of grammatical errors where I think edits were made without it being checked again. It doesn't detract from the story though. Good plot with characters well-developed and scenes described such that one could imagine yourself there. I guessed who the culprit was fairly early on but that was probably more because there were no other potential culprits developed as part of the story.
Overall, a good read which I enjoyed.

I liked everything about this book. The writing style, the characters, the plot. I do have to admit, I knew right away who the villain was, but it was oh so satisfying of an ending. I loved how strong and determined the two of them are. Perfect combination of love, angst, greed, revenge, then a happy ending.

This story has tragedy, danger and excitement. Lady Nancy was to be married but it was suddenly called off. Her father the Duke of Cornington was going to make her marry another . After hearing about this the Duke of Peterhum begin calling on her. I was given an ARC and I highly recommend reading.

This “new” author has done a remarkable job with this story! The characters were so believable and the plot was so entertaining, with suspense, intrigue and betrayal. This story just grabbed my attention from the very beginning. I am looking forward to reading more from Tiffany Baton.
