I’m so happy to be on the blog tour for Tempted by Her Outcast Viking by Lucy Morris. I’m loving the Shieldmaiden Sisters series. Morris has a talent for immersing the reader fully into the story with historically accurate and interesting settings and plots, compelling characters, and wonderful romances.
Brynhild is such a dynamic protagonist. Strong and capable, she feels she is the protector of her family. She is a person who thinks of her family’s needs before her own and resigned herself to being the one who will care for her sisters and her aging mother, and she feels very guilty for wanting more. Though she is often unflappable, Brynhild is very self-conscious about her looks. She isn’t small, dainty, and delicate. She is a warrior, and she is tall and broad. Teased and ridiculed for many years because of her looks, Brynhild feels unlovable and unattractive. I love how Erik completely proves her wrong and helps to build her confidence when it comes to her desirability.
Can I just talk about how much I love Erik? This poor man had a terrible childhood, and he withstood trauma, abuse, humiliation, prejudice, and more. Being half Persian, he never felt like he belonged or was accepted in either world, and he is often treated differently because of his heritage. Add to that the abuse he suffered at the hand of his father and the devastating loss of his mother, and Erik has many reasons to be angry and bitter. But he’s not. Recently freed from his father’s enslavement, he immediately volunteers to help Brynhild rescue her sister. He also wants to rectify some mistakes he made with Brynhild in the past, and I love him for that. He knows how deeply emotional wounds hurt, and he regrets his treatment of her even though he thought he did it with good intentions.
And the romance between Erik and Brynhild is amazing! I mean, the way Erik feels about Brynhild makes your heart squeeze and grow. I don’t know if it’s because they’re both warriors who put walls up, or if it’s because Erik had such a tough life, or if it’s because of their history together, but their love story is positively swoon-tastic! There’s so much tension and chemistry, and the fact that they are journeying together under stressful circumstances and in close proximity just adds to the sexual tension. I also like that Brynhild is the more experienced one, and Erik has none. After hiding his feelings for Brynhild for so long, it’s lovely to see him experience his first tender moments, kisses, and affection with her. I feel like it made their connection and tender moments even more poignant and romantic.
The plot is as intriguing as the characters and romance. With rich and immersive descriptions of the setting and the varying landscapes Brynhild and Erik travel to the urgency of their quest, there’s a lot of excitement and intrigue. These warriors will stop at nothing to save Helga, but throughout their travels, they learn more than they ever expected about love, life, and they realize that their journey entails much more than they ever expected.
The next book in the series focuses on Helga, the youngest of the sisters, and I can’t wait to read her story. Her romance is hinted at in this one, and it has the making of a swoon-worthy enemies-to-lovers read. Thanks so much to Rachel’s Random Resources, the author, and Harlequin Historical for providing me with a copy of the book. All thoughts are my own.
This installment of the Shieldmaiden Sisters picks up where the previous book ends, with Valda and Halfdan marrying in defiance of his father, Jarl Ulf, and Halfdan’s betrothed, Lady Alswn, sister to the Welsh warlord Lord Rhys Draig ddu Gwynedd, running off with her bodyguard. It is after the wedding feast when Valda’s mother Porunn and her half-sisters Brynhild and Helga begin walking home that Erik, Halfdan’s half-brother and former thrall, asks to speak to Brynhild. Her mother leaves them to go hunt and Helga wants to purchase bread and honeycakes, leaving Brynhild with no reason to deny Erik an audience.
Years ago, while Erik was still enslaved, he and Brynhild formed a friendship, but for reasons unknown to Brynhild, Erik publically rejects and humiliates her and makes her hate him. He now wants to explain why he did it and beg her forgiveness because while she might not believe it, Erik lied about his feelings to protect her and he has never forgotten her kindness to him. But before can fully explain, she realizes Helga is missing. It doesn’t take long to figure out that she was taken hostage by Rhys, who believes Ulf betrayed him and is holding his sister for ransom. Erik offers to help find Rhys’ sister and return her to Wales to secure Helga’s release, he feels partly to blame for the kidnapping and promised his brother he would watch over the ladies while he and Valda were away. Brynhild is a shieldmaiden and doesn’t want Erik’s help, but soon realizes, she needs him. And to save her sister, she will have to put away the hurt he caused her and ignore the attraction she still feels for him because he will never want a warrior for a wife, not that she wants to marry. But what she doesn’t know is Erik has always loved her and will do whatever it takes to win his shieldmaiden’s heart.
I loved this book, it was a well-written, fast-paced, non-stop adventure with an intense second-chance love story. The book is filled with wonderful characters, insecurities, denied feelings, healing, steamy love scenes, abductions, surprises, and a well-deserved HEA, complete with an epilogue that will leave you hungry for the next installment. This is the second book in the series and while it could be read as a standalone title, I would suggest reading the series in order for the best reader experience.
*I am voluntarily leaving a review for an eARC that I requested and was provided to me by the publisher. All opinions in this review are my own.*
Having read and enjoyed Valda, the first Shieldmaiden sister’s story, I was looking forward to getting my hands on the next in the series, about Brynhild and Erik. While the three books are about three sisters, I really don’t think you need to have read Valda’s story (The Viking She Would Have Married) to read and enjoy this one. But really, do read that one, too, as it’s just as good as this one.
Brynhild is the eldest of three sisters and counts herself as the dependable, protective one. With her middle sister recently married and away on adventures, Brynhild realises that the task of looking after her aging mother and sweet and delicate younger sister, falls to her. The guilt she feels for wishing for more for her life, has her on edge. As does the gorgeous, recently freed son of a powerful man, Erik. When the pair find themselves on an adventure to save Brynhild’s sister, each has to put aside what they believe in order to get what they want.
On the surface, I wouldn’t have imagined I’d have much in common with a strong, vital, kick-ass shield maiden warrior like Brynhild. But that was far from the case. She was a very conflicted woman - she had a responsibility for those that she loved but she also had dreams that she felt she had to put aside to be the protector for her family. I really felt for her and totally understood her dilemma. But even more so was her assertion that she wasn’t a desirable women because she wasn’t small and delicate like her sister. That properly broke my heart and made me root hard for her to get her happily ever after.
Like Brynhild, Erik had a dilemma in his life - but his was more of taking a chance to make his life what he wanted, now that he was free. He had quite a horrible back story of death, abuse and torture, but he was still a likeable character as he didn’t let his past either define him or let it overwhelm him. Or us as readers. I loved the way that he was clearly all-in with Brynhild and he definitely appreciated her strong, feisty character.
There’s always some heat going on in a Lucy Morris book but this one just smouldered. There was a touch of the ‘teach me about passion’ trope going on which naturally fit with the palpable chemistry our pair had. Add to that, the couple go on a long, cross-country trip together so there are plenty of opportunities for lying, lusting after each other by the campfire, then later, getting properly on in barns, under the stars etc etc etc.
Again, I’ve come to expect vivid historical accuracy from Lucy Morris and that’s exactly what we get here. She manages to weave detail in with the romance so a rich world is built for our characters but in an organic and natural way. You realise that you’ve learnt something about the Vikings in Britain and Ireland but without ever realising you’re being taught. It makes a romance all the more believable, I feel, when you’ve got such a vibrant and realistic setting.
While I loved Brynhild and Erik’s romance, and even had those happy butterflies in my stomach at their final declarations, I have to admit that my heart went into giddy overdrive as we get teased by the next book in the series, Helga’s story, Beguiling Her Enemy Warrior. In this story, Helga is kidnapped by a beastly Welsh prince, setting off the chain of events that leads to Brynhild and Erik’s adventure. But what will happen when the sweet Helga decides to flee her captor - will he let her go? Gah! I cannot wait!
Whether you’re a Viking romance fan, a fan of Lucy Morris, a historical Mills & Boon fan, or none of the above - I’m sure you will love this story as much as I did. Engaging characters, rich detail and a sigh-worthy romance - this is another for your keeper shelf. 5 stars.
I wonder if I should start rating my reads based on the compulsion to buy booksta themed props for the books? Who knew trying to find a Viking axe like Brynhild’s would be so hard…? *shrugs*
[End of internal musings: normal service resumed.]
And here I was thinking Valda and Halfdan’s story was an emotional read! It’s like Brynhild and Erik said, “Here, hold our cloaks!” Say whaaa…
Forced proximity ✔️ Second chance…ish ✔️ Enemies-to-lovers…ish ✔️ Virgin H ✔️
What can I say?! Book Two started off with a bang and left me reeling with a certain turn of events. I. Was. Not. Okay. Clear enough for you? *folds arms*
Her mother and sisters are Brynhild’s world. It’s no wonder then that this Shieldmaiden will go to the ends of the earth for them if needed. Even partner up with the one man she loathes above all others.
Yup *nods*, you’ve guessed it. The old ‘fine line between love and hate’ is at work again. Brynhild masks her hurt but the pain from that summer so long ago is wedged deep inside. Her attraction to Erik may be harder to deny but her trust will be hard won!
*whistles* Sparks they be a flying! *snorts* Chemistry is not the problem for these two. It’s communicating. They have spent so long keeping every little thing bottled up just to survive that prepare for a flood when the dam breaks… *winks*
“Brynhild is the sun.”
Oh my sweet, sweet Erik. You have ruined me in the best way. (*whispers* Fleece Loft scene!)
Erik’s the perfect mix of protective and vulnerable. He’ll empower Brynhild, if only she’ll let him.
Romance is not my go to genre but I have to say I'm really enjoying these Mills & Boon historical romances!
This is the second in the Shieldmaiden sisters series but easily stands on its own as a story, something I can attest to having not read the first, although I will be going back to read The viking she would have married as soon as I can!
Tempted by her outcast viking is a second chance romance with the added tension of a quest to pull our two protagonists together.
Brynhild was a fantastically fierce character. Strong and brave, willing to lay her life down in battle, she had a sensitive side, especially when it comes to her family. She is not willing to open her heart again to Erik, who hurt her in the past.
Erik is a loner, made that way by his awful upbringing at the hands of his brutal father. Like Brynhild, he seems hard and unforgiving on the outside but carries a lot of pain and insecurities on the inside.
I really rooted for them to get past their pain and become the people they were meant to be and have the love they deserved.
The historical details were wonderfully done, adding to the atmosphere in the story. I honestly don't know much about the viking times, but now I feel I know a bit more!
There was a setup for the next story at the end of the book, so I'll be looking forward to reading that!
If you like historical romance, second chance romances and a bit of spice, then I'd highly recommend Tempted by her outcast Viking.
Terrific book that caught my attention from the beginning and kept me hooked to the last page. The story picks up immediately after the end of the previous book (The Viking She Would Have Married). While this can be read as a standalone, I feel the reader gets a deeper understanding of these characters by reading the other book first.
Brynhild and Erik had once been friends until he betrayed her. Years later, she'd hoped never to see him again, but with his half-brother marrying her sister, that was a forlorn hope. Erik has been tasked with helping Brynhild, her mother, and her youngest sister, Helga, find land to purchase. But before he can do that, Helga is kidnapped, and Brynhild needs his help to rescue her sister.
I liked Brynhild and Erik. Brynhild is strong and capable, with a fierce reputation as a shieldmaiden; she sees herself as her family's protector. As a result, she doesn't plan to marry, though she occasionally finds herself wanting more. Though supremely confident in her fighting abilities, she is very self-conscious about her appearance. Tall and muscular, she's been teased and bullied about her looks since she was a child, and she feels unlovable and unattractive. But there is also a softness to her that she keeps well hidden.
Amazingly, Erik has turned out to be the good man he is. His mother was a Persian noblewoman captured and enslaved by his Viking father, making him a slave, too. He experienced humiliation and prejudice from both sides of his heritage and was accepted by neither one. His father was physically and emotionally abusive. Recently freed from his enslavement through the efforts of his half-brother Halfdan, Erik is ready for the next stage of his life. But he puts that on hold to help Brynhild rescue her sister. He also hopes to make amends for past mistakes he made with her.
I enjoyed watching the relationship between Brynhild and Erik develop. Several flashbacks show their past and the events that drew them together and drove them apart. Brynhild still harbors a great deal of anger over his actions years ago and is not happy about the attraction she feels toward him. At the same time, Erik knows he wants Brynhild in his life but has no confidence that she would ever feel the same way. Forced together on their search, their sparks continue to grow while they work through their past issues. In an interesting role reversal, Brynhild is the experienced one of the pair. Erik has held himself back for reasons that are both admirable and heartbreaking. I loved seeing his first experiences with tenderness and passion happen with the woman who has held his heart for so long. Ultimately, will Brynhild's need to protect Erik from her family's troubles cause her to deny her feelings for him? Or will Erik be able to convince her that they can overcome anything if they are together?
I liked the intensity of the plot. Helga is kidnapped as a hostage by Rhys, the Black Dragon, who blames Erik's father for the failed marriage bargain that would have married his sister to Halfdan. Erik and Brynhild must find the sister, who ran off with her bodyguard and return her to Rhys to free Helga. While hot on the heels of the runaway couple, Erik and Brynhild experience various situations calling for their cooperation and trust. An unexpected twist changes the dynamic of their mission, and the result is different from what they wanted. I ached for Brynhild and her fears for Helga's safety. The epilogue hints at Helga's story, and I'm glad I already have it to read next.
One of the things I enjoyed about this book was the richness of the descriptions. Whether it was the landscape, the people, or the action, the depth of detail made the scenes come alive. I was intrigued enough to look up the names of the towns to see what they are today and follow along on a map.
I'm predisposed to loving heroines like Brynhild (fierce, independent, yet vulnerable) and heroes like Erik (smitten, virginal, with a mountain of baggage) - plus this is a road romance. So yes, I ended up liking this quite a bit. However be advised that the plot driving this romance is directly connected to decisions made by the hero of the first book in the trilogy. Also, while this ends happily (hello, it's a romance) the plot driving the romance isn't entirely wrapped up. Why? Because the author has to leave meat on the bone for the third and final book in the trilogy. This could be read as a stand-alone, but it might take a couple chapters to get your sea legs.
What an immersing book! I enjoyed reading it so much that I didn’t realize its ending. Brynhild and Erik captivated me from the beginning until the last and I couldn’t wait to read the third book!
Brynhild and Erik might be childhood friends but as a thrall, Erik had hideous treatment from his father, Ulf (every time Ulf appeared, I felt like wanting to joggle him because he is really more irritating here). Meanwhile Brynhild always feels that her family is completely reliant on her as Valda, her sister, sailed after the wedding.
What captivated me more were its rich historical details and places, Erik’s mother was Persian and a thrall that is what makes him a thrall and half-Persian too but eventually he purchases and releases himself from his cruel father. Erik and Brynhild have unfinished issues when they were young therefore when they meet again, Erik is craved to apologize but he never expected that he will be tempted by her, she looks more beautiful with her strong tall physique, and long blonde hair. He very much desires her as she is as equal as him. (Well, I did also adore her because she is very kind and compassionate).
When Helga, Brynhild’s fragile sister is kidnapped, both Erik and Brynhild go on a journey to rescue her yet never did they imagine that they will be induced by their desire. I immensely enjoyed their journey because it was so immersing and imaginable, thank you, Lucy Morris, for your engrossing writing.
I never wondered that this book could be, wow, so entirely engrossing. It successfully brought my emotions out from the very first chapter to the last, especially how heart-wrenching Erik’s past was and how distressing Brynhild’s position is despite being strong shieldmaiden. Furthermore Erik’s revelation took me by surprise. The ending, I was so entirely preoccupied by the story that I didn’t realize its ending. I couldn’t believe this book hooked me from the first page to the last! Thank you, Lucy Morris, for this ARC which I voluntary review.
Tempted by Her Outcast Viking is the second book in the Shieldmaiden Sisters trilogy and tells the story of Brynhild and Erik.
I really enjoyed this book, I found the push and pull between Brynhild and Erik enjoyable and the chemistry between them was there from the start. Lucy Morris weaves her tale beautifully with rich descriptions of the setting and era and she sets up the next book in the series really well.
This is an absorbing romance about two outsiders learning how to be vulnerable and kind to each other when the world has taught them otherwise. Erik is head over heels for Brynhild but she is determined to push him away before he can break her heart (again). Their quest to save Brynhild's sister gives them space to come to peace with the hurts of their past and realise that the future they thought they wanted is so much less that the one that is there for the taking.
The world they live in is harsh and unforgiving to anyone on the fringes. It makes it even more satisfying when Brynhild and Erik learn to show empathy for themselves and even to (spoilers).
There's a definitely lead-in to the next book and I'm interested to see how Lucy Morris pulls it off!

Wonderful story of shieldmaiden Brynhild, and Erik the Black, a former slave and bastard son of a powerful Viking Lord. These two strong characters are meant for each other, but life's circumstances have gotten in the way. Forced together to save Brynhild's abducted sister their passions ignite. Always enjoy stepping out of the traditional historical romance Regency ballrooms to another time and place, and this story is no exception. This story is complete but the epilogue leads into the next book in the series - and I can't wait!
Get ready to get swept back into the Shieldmaiden series with Lucy’s latest book, Tempted by Her Outcast Viking.
I absolutely loved the first book in this series, so I was pumped to read its next installment. You can read this book as a stand-alone, but I wouldn’t recommend it. This is because the stories are connected, and the events in the first book dictate the book’s direction. Tempted by her, Outcast Viking picks up right after the first book. Brynhild, her sister Helga, and the broody Viking Erik are walking around in the market. While Brynhild and Erik are having a heated discussion about a past hurt between these two, Helga is kidnapped. They soon learn that Helga’s kidnapping is because of the failed marriage between Lord Rhys’ sister and Halfdan, Erik’s brother (which happened in the first book). Lord Rhys wants his sister returned in exchange for Helga. The problem is that no one knows where his sister is because she fled the town with her lover. Brynhild and Erik set off to find Lord Rhys’s sister and get Helga back.
I enjoyed this book. It was slower-paced than what I was expecting. The first book is action-packed and centred around this epic adventure. While this book did have that adventure aspect to it, it was much a slower-paced one. The story focused more on Brynhild and Erik’s tension and past hurt. Not to give too much away, but when Brynhild and Erik were younger, they had formed a friendship, but their friendship ended in hurtful words and a broken nose. As the story unfolds, we get to watch as these two slowly start to become friends and then do something more. I love watching them interact with each other. The sparks and romantic tension are there right from the beginning (no matter how hard they deny it). This book’s ending had so many unexpected twists, and the last page leaves readers on a major cliffhanger.
Brynhild is a strong, fierce warrior. She feels this sense of duty to protect and take care of her mother and younger sister. This duty and her desire to maintain her freedom have meant that she does not want to marry any man. I liked her character; it was this wonderful blend of strength and vulnerability. Brynhild guards her heart well and doesn’t want to get hurt by Erik again. Erik was this mysterious character in the first book, and I enjoyed seeing what he was thinking and his dreams for his future. I love how these two are equal in every aspect; they were both fierce warriors, smart, stubborn, and capable of taking care of themselves. This book has lots of steamy bits that will satisfy any romantic reader.
The overall story is this wonderful bridge leading readers to this grand finale that we know is coming in the third book. Lucy is pulling new pieces and sub-plots into the overall grand story, and I really love where she is taking us, and I cannot wait to read the next book.
Tempted by her Outcast Viking is a captivating historical romance.
Thank you, Harlequin Historical and Rachel Random Resources, for the ARC in exchange for an honest review.
I was so-so about the first book in this series. But I liked the character of Erik, and I like second chance stories, so I read on.
This book is a role reversal of what is typical in most romance novels. The FMC, Brynhild, is Erik's equal in size and fighting experience, and she is the leader in their relationship, both in their quest and their sexual relationship. Erik's role was to support her and defer to her.
This story was entertaining, but fell short of expectations for a few reasons. First, I didn't mind Erik's humility in admitting his wrongs, but the "apology" for the biggest wrong was turned into a non-apology because "I was trying to protect you." I was also expecting to see him "come into his own," having just won his freedom. But instead of taking charge of his life, he just decided to follow Brynhild. It's fine to be a supportive man, but it fell short of the growth that I was expecting for him.
The relationship itself felt very unrealistic. I just didn't buy that a man his age would never have even kissed anyone. And then to go from having zero experience to instantly perfect at getting Brynhild off.... I can suspend disbelief a little, and I can make some concessions for chemistry with "the right person", I can tolerate a "modern" sexual relationship set a thousand years ago, but that was a bridge too far. It also felt unrealistic that Brynhild could go from, "He betrayed me, I hate him." to "Sure you can get in my pants." in 2 or 3 days...and that they both would change their whole views of marriage, family, and what they wanted from the future in the span of a week to get to their HEA. Their previous history was just too insubstantial to sell the "insta-love" story.
I was also distracted by the fact that it was autumn, and they're out there "bathing" in pools, walking around wet and naked, sleeping naked, and later completely disrobing for trysts. As if it weren't frigid and they wouldn't be freezing their butts off. I gotta wonder if Lucy Morris has done much fall camping or swimming. Does she know how long it takes "washed" clothes to dry out in that weather? Does she think it's common to be like, "We're poor and traveling with the bare minimum--not even a good stock of food. But hey, I happened to bring this exotic perfumed soap along?" Too many details felt like pure fantasy for the sake of convenience.
There was a strong thread running through this story of these two being meant for each other. I wish that would have been spun out with so many of these details improved.
Overall entertaining, but short of what I was hoping for.

This is the second story in 'Shieldmaiden Sister' series and this time we are looking at Brynhild and Erik. Their story is told over the course of 24 Chapters and an Epilogue. We first met this pair in the first book on the series called 'The Viking she would have Married'. In the first book we learnt all about their siblings Valda and Halfdan. Readers of this series will be happy to know that this book begins right after the first one ends. Now this doesn't mean to have read the first in the series if you want to read this story. This can be read as a standalone novel. However you may end up reading the first book once you see how well this book is written and how much detail is put into these characters. Now Erik is the polar opposite of his brother. He has no connections in this world except his brother and Brynhild but from 9 years ago. It is clear from the start of this book that these two characters have a past. A past that did not end well and is slowly revealed to the readers. Throughout this book these two characters are on a mission, a mission that has nothing what so ever to do with the sizzling chemistry that lies right beneath the surface. From the moment you start this book not only does it jump straight into the storyline but also the chemistry is obvious. As readers join Brynhild and Erik on their journey, they are slowly allowed to see parts of the past. A past that helps the reader to understand the characters as they are currently and their motivations. One thing I loved about this is that although you are dealing with very strong warriors neither one is afraid to show their emotions at certain times. Also it is brilliant to see in this book just how much these characters don't want the other one to change in any aspect. Overall I enjoyed this book just as much as the first in the Shieldmaiden sister series. I can't wait to see where Helga's story takes her. I am in love with this series with all the details that included.
Second story of three sisters, picks up where the first book ends (essentially) and overlaps time with the third installment. The actions Halfdan takes in the first book to marry his true love are what set the events here in motion, as the youngest sister in the family is abducted after his wedding by the brother of the woman his (evil) father Ulf had promised to in order to form an alliance in Wales. That was a mouthful. Read the first book, it's excellent as well.
With all this happening, Erik (Halfdan's formerly enslaved half-brother) and Brynhild (the oldest sister in the family) take off to retrieve the Welsh lord's sister who ran off with a man. Events long previous left Brynhild angry with Erik and this is a romance novel so they spend the trip working through things until they get to the very earned happy ending.
It was an absolute joy going on an adventure with Erik and Brynhild. Lucy Morris is a very good wordsmith and I just fell into everything. I love her worldbuilding and the personality she gives everyone. The book is very focused on our pair, the rest of the cast of the book is essentially background which makes absolute sense with the scenario.
The story that set of us off on this journey sees Halfdan and Valda finally married and over the sea. But Helga, Valda's youngest sister has been seized by the notorious Lord Rhys, the Black Dragon, in retribution for the loss of his sister who had been sent to marry Halfdan. Brynhild, the eldest, picks up her sword and sets out to find the sister of the Black Dragon with Erik, Halfdan's half brother. The pair of them have a complex past, but are bound in their quest to mitigate Halfdan's attempt to set the Dragon's sister free. This story of 'almost friends' to lovers stands strong against a backdrop of fleeing lovers, family loyalty and the realisation that even The Black Dragon might have miscalculated when he stole away the diminutive Helga as shieldmaidens, viking warriors and longboats from across the seas muster at the base of his fortress. It is a story with such pace that it does not slither to a halt until the very last chapter. I loved it. Five stars

Another enjoyable Viking romance from Lucy Morris. The relationship between Brynhild and Erik is rather touching and sweet. Brynhild is a tall, strong, and often times blunt shieldmaiden who is used to putting her own needs aside in favor of her family. Erik has a traumatic past from an abusive father, losing his mother at a young age, and being marked as a slave and an outcast. It is their very strength and perserverance that makes them a perfect match.
Brynhild doesn't meet what others have defined as the standards of ideal femininity, so she doesn't often feel desired or believe that marriage is an option for her. But Erik admires her for who she is, wanting to stand beside her as an equal, never in front or behind. Erik, on the other hand, has never belonged, never been treated like a man worthy of respect. But Brynhild admires him in likewise fashion, seeing the man with the fortitude to survive the toughest of situations. They make an unconventional pair, but it works.
Thank you so much Lucy Morris, Harlequin historical and Rachel’s random resources for gifting me a digital copy of ‘Tempted by her outcast Viking’ in exchange for an honest review. This is the second standalone book in the shield maiden’s series following Brynhild and Erik on a quest to rescue her sister from the clutches of the Black Dragon. Having read book one I fell in love with this set of strong sisters who fight for not only what they believe in but also for their family, Brynhild is a phenomenal women and warrior who knows what she wants and her childhood friend who turned enemy is not what she wants (or not admit to out loud) to help her. I fell in love with this pair on the quest and the resolutions they come to along the way and the discovery of each other’s bodies and minds is a story that made my heart happy. I can’t wait for book three.
My very first Viking novel and I found it exceedingly well written, thoroughly researched and captivating to read. The descriptions are astoundingly beautiful and compelling and the characters vibrant and larger than life! The heroine is a badass warrior, but she’s also very feminine, shy and bold at the same time. And the hero is so sweet, a big, handsome cinnamon roll of a Viking! Usually this is not my kind of hero, but I loved Erik, so honorable, so kind, so in love with the heroine… And I must confess that I’m already in love with the hero of the next book, who’s definitely my type! Dark, brooding, mysterious… I can’t wait! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Always love Lucy Morris. I loved the two main characters in this and the non-traditional mien of their relationship. Not much to the plot. It is really half a story to be continued in Helga’s book. I look forward to reading what comes next.
Wow! Steamy to say the least! I loved this book, full of tension and passion. The two lead characters both head strong and passionate and think they know what they want or do they?!?
I’m completely obsessed with this series, each book is better than the next.
There were a lot of elements that were very different from what I normally see in romances, and made the story extra interesting.
As per usual with this series, the setting and action were top notch. The relationship between Brynhild and Erik was excellently developed, with their traits and compatibility being just so believable. The resolution of the relationship between the two made me swoon!
I cannot wait for the next book in the series! Nothing else can fill the void.
