“She’s in the top five of my best writers list. I have a list of King, Grisham, Koontz…you know, those guys. They are the authors who you know will deliver.” – The Lit Critic
Can Eleri and Donovan outsmart a killer who leaves no evidence behind or even a discernable cause of death? How will they track down someone who is more intelligent than both of them together? Curie, Nebraska was designed as a research haven for the ultra-intelligent.
In fact, applicants must pass a rigorous IQ test before they can call the strange town home. Nearly every resident—including several child geniuses—is suspect and no one is safe. Going undercover as the new neighbors leaves the agents struggling to find even the most basic clues.
Eleri and Donovan can barely maintain their false identities against their overly-curious and stunningly intelligent new friends, let alone solve a murder. Can they figure it out before the next body turns up? Or has the killer already found them…
The Camelot Gambit is the seventh book in the NightShade Forensic FBI Files series by USA Today bestselling author A.J. Scudiere. This book can be read as a standalone, but readers who love paranormal investigations and FBI thrillers will want to read the entire series!
Scudiere wrote another great installment of the Nightshade Forensic Files. The Story was fast paced and Kept me engaged. It also kept me guessing, mostly incorrectly, as to who the killer was. The setting was great. The character quirks were amazing and in a way I wish I could live in Curie Nebraska.
That being said, when near the beginning of the book one of the characters said that 'statistically speaking apple pie was the least likely for someone to be allergic to' I immediately thought of my stepson and stepdaughter, both of whom are severely allergic to apples.
I would highly recommend The Camelot Gambit to everyone.
Of all the books in this series, this was my least favorite. It was such slow going and not much happened. Eleri and Donovan both go under cover but it didn’t really make sense. Why couldn’t they just go in and investigate. Another thing that bothered me was Eleri’s sudden lack of powers. Donovan rarely used his power and only changed because he was restless. Both agents seemed to miss clues and just didn’t seem on point. I didn’t like this one much but will read the next one. Hopefully it’ll be better or I’ll be done with the series. I like Eleri and Donovan as a team so I hope the next one is good.
PG-13 No sex Some strong language, including a few F-bombs Nothing gory
Nightshade FBI agents Eleri and Donovan are called to Curie, Nebraska to investigate a possible murder. Both agents wonder why Nightshade, which is similar to TV's "X Files," would be involved. Really, the situation seems to be the kind that any FBI unit should be able to handle. However, Curie, Nebraska is an exceptional town because its residents must meet certain IQ standards to live there. So, perhaps the death, which seems to have been from unusual but natural causes, was arranged by someone whose very intelligence gives an edge not found in standard crimes. At first, neither Eleri's psychic talents nor Donovan's heightened senses seem to be of any use. But they quickly realize circumstances definitely and frustratingly point to homicide.
Some reviewers have seemed disappointed that the pair's Nightshade abilities aren't used as much as in other books of the series. I disagree. I found it interesting that for the most part Eleri and Donovan had to rely on the advantages of being good partners, their logic, and good detective work.
This is a fun book mainly because of the setting. She used her imagination and knowledge to create a community of very smart people. Even though I never found Ohm Ave or Watt Street and the community where houses had Bernoulli numbers instead of sequential numbers, her communities were very academically astute.
Even the coffee shop and restaurant had interesting names and menus.
Again, Donovan and Eleri required the use of their special attributes to solve incidents, but this time incognito in a town of the sharpest tacks in the box whose professions typically required them to ferret (didn’t see one of those in town but wouldn’t be surprised if there was one) out new information.
One could say this was her corniest book, but you will need to read it to find out.
Now about the brother ...

Long ago I realized that Utopia was not a place I’d want to live. Though my optimistic views often made me seem a vacuous Pollyanna, I discovered that it wouldn’t necessarily be a happy place. Superior intelligence always attracted me, so the idea of a town whose residents are all genius would be the perfect place. Right? But people are made up of so much more, and intelligence does not factor in character traits, or even common sense. “The Camelot Gambit” is a mystery with puzzle pieces to sort (don’t you just love a puzzle?). However, if being smart is part of the criminal’s makeup, you might be looking for less brainy neighbors. As usual, Donovan and Eleri are modest about their abilities, but put superhuman efforts into tracking down a murderer who is virtually invisible. Nice people aren't always nice, and smart people aren’t always smart.

What a thrilling story in The Camelot Gambit by A.J. Scudiere. It's the seventh book in the The NightShade Forensic Files series. Agents Eleri and Donovan go undercover, for one of the toughest cases of their life. Well, the undercover identities make it hard when they need to investigate a community of geniuses, and what's been going on. Whatever this author writes, I read. This author brings the story to life. The characters had a lot of depth, and were very realistic. It's a great story to follow and try to figure out what will happen next. This author's characters develop and interacts well with the other characters. This author not only tells the story but shows it with words as well. The Camelot Gambit is a definite recommendation by Amy's Bookshelf Reviews. I read this book to give my unbiased and honest review. Excellent installment in the nightshade series. This one was a little different - Eleri and Donovan go undercover in a town that requires a certain IQ. Both Eleri and Donovan are smart, but they barely stay undercover. Donovan must see live patients-it is part of his cover-Eleri pretends to look for a job. The town is experiencing strange murders. The story is tight, the writing excellent, and I read it slowly which is a sign I loved it. I did not figure out the murderer until the last part of the book which makes a book great. I did wish there was more about Walter and GJ and many of the other supporting characters

This is my favorite book in the series. If you are a fan of the show Eureka, you'll love this! In a town specifically designed for those with exceptionally high IQ's, scientific discoveries abound, and all is supposed to be ideal and perfect. When a top scientist turns up dead thing take a less than ideal turn. Especially since there seems to be no obvious cause of death, and no evidence of anything else being amiss. Eleri and Donovan have their work cut out for them. If a town full of geniuses can't solve this, then how will they? This one was so puzzling, that I didn't figure it out at all. I had to wait for the author to reveal the solution to the mystery at the end of the book. Fantastic read!
Another Great Book by Author, A.J. Scudiere! This series just keeps getting better and better! The suspense written in this series is excellent! I love that the witch in Eleri comes out when she really needs it because when she calls on it in when she is trying to figure something out and it doesn't work, has me on the edge of my seat wondering if it's gonna fail her when she really needs it when it's love of death! I know everyone who reads mystery and suspense books will Love this book! I will definitely recommend it to others!
I love this series! AJ has written smart and compelling characters, brilliant storylines, and mysteries that rival the best of them.
In this installment, she ups the stakes and leads us through a labyrinth of genius that makes us love Eleti and Donovan even more. Their human struggle through this mystery is all too real, and I felt every bit of their frustration, doubt, and pain.
Nerds of the World Unite! and make your own City! Welcome to Curie Nebraska, a city of geekiness, with hobbit homes, solar system statues, play on word stores, and think tanks. Unfortunately, even here murder can happen but it is down with panance. Nightshade is called in to figure out how people are dying, why and who is the culprit - a new never seen before talent or just a super-smart criminal.
Ouch! This novel was not what I expected. I am so into the paranormal part of the agents, that I missed it here. Now looking at this novel separate from the other 6 that I read it is well written. The suspense is going to keep you reading. Their are several new developments in this novel and I do not want to give them away to the reader. I highly recommend the writing of A.J. Scudiere. I do not believe that you can go wrong with any of her novels that you might pick up.
I read the first book, it was a recommendation, and then immediately bought the next. Now I have finished book 7! I am going to get book 8 right now and keep on till I finish. Great writing g, really interesting characters, surprises, action, intriguing plot development and sprinkles of weird and wonderful:)
This is one of my favourites in the series. The MCs struggle to maintain their cover as they attempt to solve a murder in a town whose citizens all have very high IQs. The setting is more entertaining than the actual murder mystery. I loved the town of Curie and its people but I guess nowhere is perfect.
Ever want to live in a perfect community--carefully screened people who meet the criteria? This book may change your mind. Marshall Bennett the creator of Curie, Nebraska finds that not everything goes as planned and not everyone is what they seem to be. Another race to the finish full of investigation, dead bodies, and suspense.
I was disappointed no paranormal no woo woo. Eleri's lost her ? Just a lot of people with high IQ. I've read everyone of The Forensic Files and they were spectacular. But this one isn't.
Loved all the previous books in this series. Found book 7 far different than previous books, drawn out, repetitive, slow. I hope book 8 gets series back on track.
from the start of the book to the end I kept jumping back in between pages between laying the book down and started reading again most enjoyable escape from day to day life.
Still entertaining but was slow too must effort on explanation of the side characters too many characters not my favorite in this series expected better
If I ever stop buying this series my husband will be happy. I was disappointed there wasn’t anything supernatural about this case. Too many smart people in one town makes for a hard case to crack.
Mysterious. Weird. Unfathomable but it could happen. Scudiere is a terrific writer and always keeps me guessing. But I was totally surprised in this one.
The Camelot Gambit was an excellent book. A.J. Scudiere is a great author. She knows how to keep you guessing who done it. On the edge of your seat book.
This has been one of the hardest books for me to get into...and that just broke my heart because of just coming out of an amazing one and the fact that I absolutely love this series. I still really just can't put my finger on it besides maybe it was too "geeked-out" for me. It took me 3 days to get thru Chapter 1 though, then I put it down and didn't pick it back up for a month or so. Getting thru Chapter 2 took me another month. I just couldn't get sucked into it no matter how much I LOVE Eleri and Donovan 🤷♀️ And if it wasn't for my extreme love of them, the series and A.J., I would have probably walked away from the book then. As it was, I struggled my way thru it, at times wondering if she had someone else writing because it just didn't read like her normal stuff, and I'm ready to move on to the next one! So did I really like it? No, not this time (and it just crushes me to have to give her a bad review 😔 )
I volunteered to read an advanced copy of this book. It just took me a lit longer than I planned.
