Storms and Embers

Rate this book
Archon of Zephyr.
Queen of the Goddesses.
A Broken Woman.

Hera has reigned over Olympus and humanity for millennia. Seen as cold, sarcastic, and callous, she uses this to her advantage, keeping everyone, including her sisters, at a distance. It's a lonely life, but it worked, until the Titans decided that breaking her father out of Tartarus was a good idea. A move that put her and her sisters against the Titans in a battle for their thrones upon Olympus.

Dr. Viktor Alden understands being alone. As a man who has spent his immortal life as a nomad, living with a curse that has kept him from allowing anyone to really know him, he is fascinated by the enigmatic woman who quite literally runs the world. Too bad they have a battle they may not win, or even live through, for him to learn the intricacies that make up the Queen of the Goddesses.

Now, two people who have spent their entire lives distrusting the world must learn to trust each other if they want to survive the upcoming war.

Storms and Embers is the final book in the Reign of Goddesses series.

C.D. Britt

8 books155 followers
C.D. Britt began her writing journey when her husband told her she needed to use her excessive imagination to write stories as opposed to creating a daily narrative for him. Ever since she penned her first words, life has been a lot more peaceful for him.

She currently resides in Texas where she has yet to adapt to the heat. Her husband thrives in it, so unfortunately, they will not be relocating to colder climates anytime soon.

Their two young children would honestly complain either way.

When she is not in her writing cave (hiding from the sun), she enjoys ignoring the world as much as her children will allow with a good book, music, and vast amounts of coffee (until it’s time for wine).

C.D. Britt is the author of Shadows and Vines and the upcoming book, Sirens and Leviathans.
Both books are part of the Reign of Goddesses series.

Storms and Embers is the third part in The Reign of Goddesses series by C.D. Britt in which you will follow Persephone, Hera and Amphitrite, the female equivalents of Hades, Zeus and Poseidon. In the previous parts you have already met Persephone and Amphitrite. They both have found their soulbonds and battles against the titans. In this book you will follow the story of Hera, as well as the story of her lost sister Hestia. What will I think of this part? Will it be as good as the previous parts?

I really love mythology, especially Greek mythology. Gods, Goddesses, Titans, vying for dominance, what could be more exciting? This series is certainly exciting!

This installment in the series was the cherry on top of a fabulous read! Now we get to the crux of what makes Hera tick, insight into her tumultuous past, the reason she is so scathing, well, mostly. What I particularly liked is how it it traverses through the modern world as well as the ancient, the gods and goddesses are trying to prevent the Titans from wrecking havoc in the human world. Each book in the series follows a different sister, their powers and love interests and their place as goddesses.

When you're the queen goddess, you sure as heck have a whole lot of responsibility! Who has time for love when your own father is causing destruction from the pits of hell? Daliances, sure, but love, nah. Until Victor, that is...but who IS Viktor, what is his deal? Simple really, a curse has prevented him from disclosing who he is, he's hidden for thousands of years, and boy is he powerful! I loved the pull Hera and Viktor feel for each other, both trying desperately to ignore it, but when we discover the WHY and the HOW of their very existence, of the events leading up to the now, I honestly felt such sympathy for them both.

Nyx, Viktor's familiar, bring her unique sassiness and humour into the book, loved it. Is she really his familiar? I wondered and then I was blown away at true identity. So many awesome characters bring light to this terrific book. And their skills of course!

The very humans Hera has sworn to protect are being used and manipulated and dying in droves. The only way to stop this is to fight a battle of all battles, where there's no guarantee of the victor.
The battle between Titans, gods and goddesses was truly epic! The power flying around so scintallating I found myself involuntary ducking! Many unexpected developments, lots of twists and the beauty of true love that stands the test of millenia. Beautiful book, beautiful series

"You are the only one strong enough to do this, and so you will, but not without me. Never again."

I love how C.D. Britt chooses titles that always hint at the main characters' powers in one way or another. She took Greek mythology and made it relatable. Even though they're flawed in both the classics and her version, in the original, the gods and goddesses were just that; they seem unattainable. This is modernized and reads as if it can occur in today's world; people can see themselves and relate.

All this time, I thought Hera was the oldest and was shocked when it was revealed that she was the youngest of her sisters. Generally speaking, the youngest sibling wants to be like their older sibling(s), constantly following them around and not wanting to be left out; to belong.

Loneliness is more common than you would think. You can be surrounded by people and still be alone. Being alone is something both Viktor and Hera can understand. It isn't easy when you're ruled by your emotions first and logic second. Hera is broken to the point where all of her relationships have limitations. She has this mask on in front of everyone, with walls built up high, pushing everyone away, including her sisters. Hera is more emotional than people will ever know. However, people see her as cold and heartless because she hates being vulnerable. But no one ever took the time to find out about Hera until Viktor. Hera and Viktor are more alike than they ever realized. They need each other and can understand one another.

By the time I finished Storms and Embers, I was an emotional mess. There was no doubt that C.D. Britt would make me change my mind and for me to learn to love Hera, even though, as I pointed out in Sirens and Leviathans, I didn't like her. I wasn't wrong! I now know why I disliked her; I sensed this kinship and didn't want to admit to seeing in myself.

If you love Greek mythology, you should read Storms and Embers. However, start from the beginning of the series with Shadows and Vines and read them in order because it will make the overall experience more enjoyable. Storms and Embers, as the conclusion of the Reign of the Goddesses series, didn't disappoint! It was challenging to decide which was my favorite because it gets better and better each time. I love them all for different reasons. Even though they're different, they're also similar, and I can relate to them in one sense or another. I'm glad that although this is the end of this series, there will be a new series with some minor characters. I can't wait for Thanos' story in the Blood of Saviors series coming next year.

If I could give this book a 10 out of 5 stars, I would. I binge-read the first two books in preparation for book 3, and I didn't want it to end. Everything slid into place perfectly, the secrets, surprises, banter, and new characters. C.D. Britt did a fantastical job with the final battle and prolonging the ending. I was expecting the next page to end, but I was disappointed because it kept getting better and better. The pacing was great, and the information given was just enough to keep you reading and questioning everything.

There were points in the story where I couldn't continue reading because I was scared of what happened next, and that's a great feeling to have, I think 😂

The characters' banter made me laugh hard, especially West and Hera. I love how we got to know more about Hera. We knew she became the goddess later in life than her sisters because their father didn't kill her, but it was great for the reader to learn about her trauma and how it affected her.
We get to know new characters, and even though most of them are side characters, they each have something to contribute. My favorite was General Markos, and even though he had a small handful of scenes, I fell head-over-heels for him.

C.D. Britt did an amazing job in the culmination for The Reign of Goddesses, and just when you think it's over, there's more, adding to the tension and suspense until the perfect end. Definitely 10/10 recommend it.

LOVED THIS ONE TOO!

I was given this book to read some time ago and asked to give an honest review. I avoided doing the review for months because reviewing it would mean that the book is well and finally done. I did not want this one to end.

This book is the third in the trilogy. The story has come full circle with this book and yet I did not want it to end. I like this world, its people, and the whole premise. The gods are actually goddesses, with their male counterpart becoming active only when her god powers come into play. The female main character of this book, Hera, I found particularly appealing. It is probably because I relate to her. She is the tough one, the one that sacrificed so the others could have what they needed, the one who maybe did without and then, just got used to doing without. Maybe she stopped even searching for the things that might have made a difference for herself. She just started to see herself as the one who did not need what other people needed. But now, in this book, what she wants and those she protects are all in danger at the same time. She is pushed to her limits and… she is magnificent! You do not want to miss this trilogy. Start now so you can hurry up and get to this book! You will love this fresh take on Greek mythology!

I LOVED this series!! I received an ARC from the author in exchange for an honest review.

When I got my ARC, there was a disclaimer that this was the third book and if I continued to read may be confused about characters or such. So I read the others first and was hooked!

C.D. Britt adds her twist on Greek Mythology and I am here for it! I felt this wasn't like a typical greek mythology novel, she used the concept in her own way and I really liked it. I thought it was very well written with great world building and character development. This book and series also has love, not just romantic but also familiar. The three sisters love each other and do anything to save each other.

I highly recommend this book and series!!
And I will definitely be reading whatever else C.D. Britt releases!

The final book in The Reign of Goddesses series is a page turning, heartbreaking, keep you on the edge of your seat story. C. D. Britt breaks your heart over and over just to put it back together again. In Storms and Embers, you explore the events that made Hera who she is. You watch as she processes past traumas and comes out stronger on the other side.

I’ve been a fan of Greek mythology since elementary school. A gender bent retelling of Zeus/Hera is a story I never knew I needed. I can’t wait for Thanatos’ story! He has become one of my favorites.

This one was emotionally heavy hitting. The pressure that was on Hera's shoulders as Queen Goddess, the way Viktor had to sacrifice a long life with her. There was so much at stake, and I'm so glad it worked out the way it did!

I really loved seeing Hera soften up because she finally had Viktor by her side. I can relate to that aspect of her well. I also really enjoyed watching her soft moments with her sister. It's not easy being Queen, so I'm glad a safety was created for her.

It's just an overall great story with history, sexiness, love, and sacrifice.

Oh wow. This whole series has been an emotional journey and this one just might be even more so. Hero and Viktor's journey is a bit different than those of the other gods and goddesses- but I really can't say more without including spoilers. But...I could not put this book down. I'm a bit shocked how fast I finished this one but I just kept having to know how it would all play out. I needed to know about Viktor's past and how the battle would play out. And it was definitely worth it.

Totally a new version of the Hera storyline. It’s nice to see her in a better light than just a toy to Zeus. I really like the concept and the book was really good and it kept my attention. It’s got action and romance, would recommend.

Viktor and Hera's story was full of action and shocking twists. I was kind of shocked that not only Viktor had Hestia's power but also another Titans power to control fire. The twist of Hera's senators being reborn as their alternate versions of the rest of the Olympians was another twist I didn't see coming.
