I was able to appreciate the positivity of this book toward ADD/ADHD. This is the first book I’ve read since my daughter was recently diagnosed. The author not only gives researched information about the science of ADD but also gives many wonderful suggestions, tips and tricks to helping students in a classroom setting. As a homeschool mom I was still able to glean much from the reading of this and have many tools now to assist my daughter. I love the quote, “ADD is not a deficit of attention but rather a wondering of attention.” And also that the “correct diagnosis is of a brain difference not a brain deficit and certainly not a moral failing.”

Of the total content of the book, I’d say that about 1/3 was outdated, 1/3 was common sense, and 1/3 was insightful, actionable suggestions. Given that it was a quick and easy read, I’d say that the good 1/3 was enough to make this worth my while.

This book by Sandra reif is a good information book meant for teachers’ educators and people with the ADHD diagnosis themselves. The author proceeds the book with interview examples with people who have ADHD to show the reader what they go through. The ADHD mind is found to not function normally because the neurotransmitters in the frontal lobe is not firing correctly. After the reader is given an understanding of this the author proceeds to educate the reader on the many different ways to help mediate the person with ADHD. There are many ways to help someone with ADHD including Medication, Coaching, and accommodations. All of the different ways we used to help people with ADHD can be translated into great building skills to help the person with ADHD be successful in school by a teacher’s guidance as is the purpose of the book. This book in my opinion is very bright and gives a very joyful outlook on the ADHD brain in a way that is refreshing. The author seems to have grown a: real” understanding of the ADHD brain and takes pride in educating others. I would rate this book with 5 full stars as it is very well written and interesting at the same time

I am currently taking a class from Baker University and this is the textbook. The book has so much helpful information about ways to help students who have trouble focusing, staying on task and getting organized. I plan to keep the book as a handy resource.
