5*Strategies for Life Stress

“The Stress Book: Forty-Plus Ways to Manage Stress & Enjoy Your Life,” by D. Terrence Foster, MD, is an easy and practical guide to help alleviate the stress in your life.

Stress is responsible for many physical illnesses and disease in life, not to mention the feelings of anxiety, doubt, and dread it can cause—even to the point of suicide. But what if you could find a way to prevent getting to the breaking point of stress? Dr. Foster offers solutions in this easy-to-read and understand guide. It will take some adjustment—a new way of thinking, living, behaving—but change can be a good thing, if you have the right kind of tool to help you, like this book. You won’t be able to eliminate ALL stress from your life. Stress happens, and happens to everyone. Rather, you will be able to manage and even prevent stress in most situations. As the old saying goes, “An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure”. Better to prevent than treat, whenever possible. Using the acronym S.T.R.E.S.S., over 40 ways to reduce stress are contained in this book, and it goes in-depth, but in a way you can understand and incorporate into your daily life.

Foster delivers the perfect book for our stressful times. I like the comprehensive approach he gives his readers, with many takeaways and actionable tips. His points about toxic relationships are also valuable, because so many people seem to be caught up in them today. Other issues he covers include self-defeating behavior, indecisiveness, self-doubt, and more. Being a former social worker, I found his discussion of Abstract Kidnapping Disorder, or A.K.D., to be most interesting. Another positive feature of this book is that you can use it in all aspects of your life, from relationships, to career, to personal care, to community, which can include finances, breakups, grief and bereavement, etc.

The good news is that there is something you can do about stress—more importantly, something you can do to prevent it. Peace is achievable in your life, but you have to take that first step. Foster offers timeless wisdom, and seems to care deeply about the subject he’s writing about, and the people he’s writing it for. Stress-less living can be your reality. It can be your new lifestyle. Add it to your daily life the way you would vitamins or a healthy supplement. If you like the simple, direct approach to stress management and prevention, then you will love “The Stress Book: Forty-Plus Ways to Manage Stress & Enjoy Your Life”, by D. Terrence Foster, MD.

In The Stress Book Dr. D. Foster addresses different kinds of stress, how to avoid stressful situations, manage stress, and everything in between. What I really enjoyed about this book is how the author gets straight to the point. Every topic in the book is comprehensively covered and discussed in depth. In The Stress Book poses questions that compel the reader to mentally answer and reflect as one reads on, ensuring readers stay engaged throughout this enlightening book.

One outstanding trait about Dr. D. Terrence Foster is that he shows compassion in his writing. Reading this book was much easier because of how understanding the author was while narrating. While going through the chapters, you get a sense of belonging and feel like you are having a conversation with someone that shows concern. Going through the notes the author listed is therapeutic. There is something charming about Dr. D. Terence Foster’s writing. He breaks down intricate terms to the reader’s understanding. One gets to learn how broad mental health is, and the different terms that define stress and mental disorders.

If you are looking for a book that will help you manage and prevent stress as you deal with personal issues, then The Stress Book is ideal. Some of the most significant topics that the author covered include knowing the physical and mental actions to take to prevent stress, destructive behaviors, setting daily goals, getting professional help, understanding yourself as an individual, toxic relationships, and spirituality. I was surprised and delighted to see that the author included a piece on the money factor. What is your relationship with money? How do you budget your money? The author highlights the effect our finances have on our mental health and briefly discusses how to handle one’s finances. I found this section to be proof that Dr. Foster has modern adults in mind as money is often a big issue for most.

The author divided the book into four sections, with each section containing a variety of related topics. The author starts with the basics and then graduates the reader to more complex topics.

The Stress Book: Forty-Plus Ways to Manage Stress & Enjoy Your Life is a must-read if you are constantly battling stress. The solutions the author provides are practical and actionable, and can work for most individuals experiencing continuous stressful moments. This informative book provides readers with the tools they’ll need to manage stress so they can starting enjoying their life.

I won a copy in a Goodreads giveaway.

This is a book of advice to reduce your stress. It offers actionable steps, such as: own a gun.
It also posits: "At some point in your life, you are likely to be involved with the legal or justice system... anything ranging from civil actions to criminal actions."

And at that point I realised I am not the paranoid target audience of this book and I stopped reading. It also talks about cryptocurrency, if that interests you. I have no interest in that.

I got about 30% deep I believe for I knew I wouldn't go on.

I think the target audience (whoever you are) will get some benefit from this book's actionable steps in various stress inducing scenarios. Two stars for that. Zero stars for me though.
