The social worker assigned to her case eventually brings Sophie home, but soon notices discrepancies in Sophie’s story. Sarah was born in London and now lives in a village in South Northamptonshire. She gained a Masters degree in Eighteenth-Century French and English art from the Courtauld Institute of Art, before teaching art in secondary schools for thirteen years. After working with human rights organisations that protect minority groups from institutional abuse, Sarah worked towards a PhD at The Open University, researching the effect of secrecy on marginalised people, specifically the biological children of Roman Catholic priests. She has spoken about her research on various news programmes for the BBC and other media outlets around the world. It was this sense of secrecy and silencing that became the inspiration for her first crime novel, The Convent.

Sarah is hugely obsessed with reading and is amassing such an unrealistically large book collection that some of it is now in storage. She is also addicted to writing, and after inventing stories (mostly in secret) from a young age and having various articles and short stories published, she wrote a children's book, The Top Secret Diary of Davina Dupree - inspired by her daughter - in 2013. Overjoyed to hear that young readers were enjoying the story, she went on to write a series about Davina Dupree.

When she is not looking after her three children and menagerie of pets, or going for long walks with her wonderful partner Rich, Sarah can be found writing, while consuming large amounts of chocolate.

GIRL IN BED THREE is a gripping psychological suspense by Sarah Sheridan.

The last thing Sophie Macreavy remembers was being told to get into her dad’s SUV and then waking up in the hospital, suffering from stab wounds.

The detectives tell her that her adoptive parents, Iris and Don and sister, Rachel are dead. Her twin brothers, Luke and Jack are missing. Sophie can’t remember anything—but reveals the abusive nightmare she’s been through as part of the family.

The detectives need to know what happened…why Sophie’s mum and dad and sister were found stabbed to death in the family car. Sophie was lucky to have escaped but still suffered from stab wounds. So far, the detectives haven’t been able to locate her brothers.

Sophie was four when she was adopted and had been a “drug-baby.” Her adopted parents were well-liked in the community and devout Catholics. But living in this family was not what it seemed…no noise, stay inside, no outside school or church etc.

Jack, Luke and Rachel were all biological siblings before they were also adopted by Iris and Don. Sophie was six when the new siblings arrived, twins Luke and Jack age four and Rachel was two.

The social worker assigned to her case eventually brings Sophie home, but soon notices discrepancies in Sophie’s story. She claims she hadn’t been allowed to use technology, yet there’s a social media account, extensive messages between herself and a boy, and videos of Sophie online. The more that comes out, the worse it looks for Sophie. She has told some lies. But will the full truth be uncovered?

The book is written entirely from Sophie's point of view, and information is relayed on a need-to-know basis. A very enjoyable fast-paced read with well developed characters and great plot.

Many thanks to the author and Bloodhound Books for my digital copy.

As I read the first paragraph of this book, I thought it had an interesting subject matter. The writing deteriorated after that. The narrator was supposed to be a nineteen-year-old girl with little or no formal schooling, yet intelligent enough to not only match wits with the police but also carry on her own investigation into the murders of her family. A feeble explanation of this might have been that unbeknownst to her family she had a cell phone for the last six months, which of course would make up for 12 years of little or no form of education. Bodies are dropping like flies, but nothing stops this teenage wonder. Just when you thought it couldn't get any worse, it does. This is when I started to suspect that this was a young adult book. That would excuse the nonsensible series of sentences that the author portrayed as a novel. That must be a type of fraud. The book took such a ridiculous stretch from reality that nothing was going to save it. You may ask, why finish it then? I skimmed through the remaining chapters to see how it ended. Curiosity forced me to go to the end. That might be the final trauma suffered by this reader.

Sophie wakes up in the hospital and realizes she has been stabbed numerous times. Many of the wounds were deep. She remembers nothing of the attack. What she does remember is life with her adoptive parents, half siblings and all of the children being abused, severe lack of food and an extremely miserable life. To anyone outside their home they looked like the perfect family. While in the hospital she finds out her siblings and parents are dead and two of the boys missing. Her search for the truth has begun.

Sophie wakes in the hospital, confused as to what happened. She has stab wounds and is informed her adoptive parents and younger sister are both dead. Not only did her parents and sister die but her twin brothers are now missing. Sophie has no recollection of how this all happened. She finally talks about her abusive parents and the social worker assigned to her begins to doubt Sophie's stories. As time goes on, she begins to remember pieces of what happened that fateful night but she starts to realize the police suspect her. But who killed her parents? If the police won't look for the real killer, then Sophie decides she has to do it herself.

Told from Sophie's perspective, I really enjoyed this book. It hooked me from the beginning and I couldn't put it down. It has some good twists I was not expecting and the ending didn't disappoint.

Thank you to Bloodhound Books for an advanced ecopy in exchange for an honest review.

This book was super easy to read but the story overall was a mess. I did not care for the main character Sophie at all and found the conversations with the detectives very immature

Not to mention, the author frequently used … to the point I couldn’t not pay attention to the three periods in a row on almost every page

The story idea could have definitely been great but the delivery was rather mundane

Also, I don’t feel like the name of the book has anything to really do with the story…………………….

Neither gripping nor dramatic. A simplistic writing style, that reads more like young teen fiction, coupled with an unbelievable storyline, makes this book worthy of only one star. It gets that for the first couple of chapters.

Why wasn't the knife found by police, in the car. That would have had fingerprints

From the start I was hooked and this was definitely, for me, a read in one session book - I just needed to know what happened. It was told in first person, which was easy to read but did make me doubt the narrator.

I cant say much more because of spoilers but I really do recommend this book for a good read.

I was given an advance copy by Bloodhound book but the review is entirely my own.

Updated for audio listen
So there were two massive for me plot holes in this book, I am not going to spoil it but once I just told myself that it doesnt matter and one I could see why otherwise the story would have gone in a different direction, the second came down to football research and I cant see how the editor didnt pick it up it wasnt central to the plot and could have easily been changed.

Apart from that it was an interesting listen and I am glad I listened to it it kept me engrossed and interested.

Yes there was swearing but for me it felt like that it was that generation.

Well narrated

Life for Sophie Macreavey hasn’t been great, part of an abusive family with a vicious mother, she wakes up in the hospital, suffering from horrific stab wounds, detectives are quick to question her—hoping to make sense of the horrific scene where she was found. Sophie’s adoptive parents and sister are dead and her two brothers are missing. The problem is that Sophie can’t remember anything about that night.

When Lisa, the Police Liaison Officer, who has been assigned to Sophie and the case begins to pick holes in the information offered about the events in the run up to and of that horrific slaying of Sophie’s family, there is more to the story than admitted.

From here, the story is incredibly fast paced, twists and turns and a plot I wasn’t too convinced I had right, which it turns out I didn’t and I simply could not put this book down!

This book grabbed me from the start as it is clear that not everything is as it seems. Certainly Sophie has had a really strange childhood with her adoptive parents and her brothers and sisters who were also adopted when she was younger. However, as the story of what happened prior to the death of her adopted parents and sister is only told from Sophie's perspective, the reader is definitely put on notice not to believe everything that Sophie tells us. For me, this made the story even more of a mystery and left a lot to the imagination as to what actually did happen. There were some shocking twists and turns some of which I guessed but this was a very dark tale of family relationships and how past actions catches up with them.
Thank you Bloodhound Books and the author for an ARC of Girl in Bed Three in exchange for an honest opinion.

This is an enjoyable book, told in the first person. We are told the story from Sophie's point of view and the first person narrative is easy to read and I zipped through the book to find out what happened next.
The problem is that a book written solely in the first-person narrative always makes me second guess everything I am being told. I know I am only being told one side of the story, one person's viewpoint and that person is most likely an unreliable narrator. I think this made me analyse everything in detail and so very quickly I was able to guess where the plot was leading.
There are enough twists and turns in the book to make you want to keep reading despite all this.

I received an ARC of this book from Bloodhound books in return for an honest review.

What a story!
From the beginning of this book I was hooked. Following the story of how Sophie was attacked and her family murdered but who done it?
From the start I knew something else was going on but I couldn’t quite put my finger on what it was. Lots of twists and turns and I never quite knew what the truth was and the ending was a good surprise.
Love the way it was written and it was a really great story.
I will be looking out for more books from this author.

A thoroughly enjoyable book told from our main characters point of view, awakening in hospital after being stabbed she finds herself caught in a real life nightmare, full of twists and turns this keeps you on the edge of your seat until you're thrown off it with a jolt. Read in a weekend, it isn't a book that is easy to put down!!

Sophie is the only one left of her family. Who would kill the upstanding family? But things are not all what they seem. I really thought I knew what direction the story was going in... boy was I wrong! This is an excellent psychological thriller! I am eagerly awaiting this author's next book. I voluntarily reviewed an ARC of this book.

Far fetched

After reading the reviews for this book I thought I was going to enjoy reading it. Sadly I didnt! Totally unbelievable. Right from the beginning the storyline didn't make sense. Surely when a family are murdered the first thing the police would do is search the house and remove anything of interest. Not in this case.

This book reads like it was written by a 12 year old, the unreliable narrator is excruciatingly annoying (oh, and I did forget.... oh, I suddenly remembered... oh, oops, I lied to the police about this... oh, I've suddenly remembered something very important but I won't share it with ANYONE....), along with the fact that the "twist" could be seen from 100 pages away.

Enticing

I started this book yesterday and finished it today. It is about the person we are inside and who we present to the world. One young girls traumatic childhood leading to unimaginable horror.

this was not good. the dialogue is terrible and the writing very juvenile. at first i thought it was because the character was a teenager and naive/stunted due to being abused and neglected but it was clear by the end the writer is just not capable of writing complex dialogue or even subtlety lol

Interesting plot but the writing was quite simple which made the delivery of any revelations very on-the-nose - the second half suffered more with the unsubtle exposition.

3 1/2 stars there was a lot of oomph packed into this little book. Many twists and turns, and just when you thought you had it figured out it changed again. Some parts of it were a little bit slow but the plot was what made it very good, but there wasn’t much to character development. It was more about the story. That’s the only reason for my downgrade in the rating. I tend to like more of character development and we don’t really get to know the characters it’s just more about the crazy storyline, which was good and exciting. the whole story revolves around Sophie McCreavey waking up in a hospital suffering from stab wounds and trying to make sense of the horrific scene where she was found along with her adoptive parents and sister. I just wish there were more to the characters in the story, but the plot and the suspense was tremendous.
