With the weekend right around the corner, Homicide Detective Mitch Cannon is looking forward to Saturday night. It isn’t often he has a date, and this one will be particularly interesting. His new friend Liza is beautiful, edgy, outspoken, and somewhat odd.
But Mitch’s usual Friday-morning phone call to his mom sets the wheels in motion for five days of pure hell. Mitch’s sister, Marie, has gone missing without a trace. His date is canceled, and Mitch’s partner, Devon, and Liza also go missing the following night. The only clue is a call Mitch gets from someone whose number is blocked, the anonymous speaker saying, “Ticktock, ticktock.”
Mitch and the entire Habersham precinct set out on a white-knuckle search to find his sister, partner, and new friend before time runs out and all three are gone forever.
C.M. Sutter was born in San Jose, California and split time between the sunny California coast and Milwaukee, Wisconsin. As a senior in high school, she chose Wisconsin as her permanent address. After many years in the Badger State, she decided on a warmer year-round climate to call home and moved south. Years of progression took her from working in large companies, to twelve years as a massage therapist, and finally, owning a corporation. She has been self-employed for over twenty years. Ms. Sutter has been writing and self-publishing since 2014 with eleven titles published in a different genre. Because of her deep interest in crime and thriller novels, she took up writing in the police procedural/crime thriller genre in 2016.
The writing in this novel was far below par. It felt as if you were reading a play by play of the main characters' day, and it got very old, very fast. The novel did not have a good flow to the story, and the conversations between characters were so unbelievable that it was a struggle to get through. The plot was so predictable that there was absolutely no suspense to the story. The best part about this book was the dog Gus.
I got this book for free during Stuff Your Kindle Day, and boy, am I glad that I didn't spend a single penny on this monstrosity.
How on earth this has 4 stars is absolutely beyond me. I've read a lot of thrillers in my life, but this one is truly next-level boring. I basically skimmed the entire thing so that I could get through it. The writing is terrible, the characters are flat, and the engagement is terrible. I don't know who in their right mind would give this book 4 or 5 stars.
No. Just—no. So predictable, so unrealistic. Writing style seemed really amateurish and simplistic. Nothing wrong with that but not really my style. And if there is no depth to the characters nor any excitement to the plot… what is there? Half of the storylines seemed completely irrelevant. And that poor dog?! What the hell was that all about?!? The way they all kept addressing each other was also really bothersome, with the awkwardness of an 80 year old man scripting an argument between two teenage boys.
Tore through the rest of this today just to see if I could. Definitely wasn't for me, didn't care about the plot, didn't like the characters, and I won't be continuing with the series. Isn't worth my time at all; thank goodness I snagged the ebook from Amazon when it was up for free one day.
Just meh! The premise seemed good but once you start reading it, it does become obvious who the criminal is and their resentment towards Mitch. A quick read, nothing special.
This is the second book I’ve read by this author and I’m not a fan! It was very predictable and the main character was so annoying. How can a seasoned cop be so dumb! Not once did he consider that she could be behind it? Also some of the language was so ridiculous! “I’m gonna get him for torturing my sister.” Locking her in a barrel and her peeing on herself is torture? And ur a homicide detective?
not bad but not good😬 I really enjoy the first half of the book but it felt off after that. The twist wasn't really one to me since we didn't have enough background of the main characters. The second hald felt too slow for me 🐢👎🏼
This is evidently the first book from C.M. Sutter about a Savannah, Georgia homicide detective, Mitch Cannon. Told in first person, it was a good read and when it was done I wanted more. Decent, right?
But I kept a star back. As a thriller it read well - except the mystery and suspense that would have made it a five star read were missing. That the detective was being set up was - to me - obvious early on. There was a lot going on, but I was wondering what took him so long to take apart his preconceived point of view.
The book started promising and interesting. Unfortunately, the author has the tendency to repeat everything over and over again. Like when Mitch got a phone call and then repeated everything said again to his boss. I really don't need to have everything explained and said again and again. It got really boring pretty fast. The twist in the end? Boring. The reason why the kidnapping happened? Boring. How everything got solved in the end? You guessed it - Boring.
Interesting from the start. Held my attention and kept me wanting to know what would happen next. Would Mitch Cannon get his sister, partner and friend back? Would they still be alive if he did? Who had a grudge again him so big that they were willing to off his family and friends to get their revenge.
I’ve been getting into more thrillers recently, and this was not a let down! Det. Cannon investigates several missing persons, in hopes to find them before it’s too late. I’m so happy this is a series and there’s 4 more books to read following!
This book has a good story line, and is well written. Easy to follow plot line with a few twists and turns. It doesn’t drag on like some books in the mystery genre tend to do, and it kept my attention well enough that I knocked it out in 3 days.
The book was okay. It wasn't really much of a crime thriller. Not suspenseful either. This was more of a CSI episode kind of story if I were to describe it. Also, felt the end was very rushed with learning who the antagonists are. It would have been better if we get their introduction earlier.
2.6 stars. It was ok but by no means spectacular. It was predictable and that really took away from what the story could have been. A lot of the police procedures were way off and that had me rolling my eyes on way more than one or two occasions.
A solid 4.25 rating. For a long series, this is only the first but I enjoyed following along. The plot was original for a book, following a movie-type plot but with less plot holes. The rest of the series is going on my TBR shelf for sure.
What I Did Like: +The case itself is interesting. You are invested in this guy figuring out what happened and in finding the kidnapped individuals. +This is obviously a set up for a series and I can see potential here. There’s a reason for us to be invested in these characters and I could see following them for another story or two.
Who Should Read This One: -This might be a good starter detective book for anyone who isn’t already a reader of the genre. It’s easy to read and character driven.
My Rating: 2 Stars Police mysteries are hard to break into and write something original. Fans of the genre are looking for something unique and accurate, so the fact that this misses those marks is problematic.
Never have i read such a book. I liked the kidnappers pov and also our main character Mitch. Sone plot twists left me shook to the core. Thinking about picking up and continueing the series. 4.5✨️
This was an easy read. Kept me engaged and interested the whole time. I liked the characters. It was simple and didn’t need a lot of flashy twists in order to keep me reading.
