The moment he laid eyes on her, she was his.

When Edith said she wanted a better life for herself, she didn't mean she wanted to be transported to some barren wasteland of a planet filled with nothing but sand, storms and evil aliens intent on killing her, but that's what she gets. And just when she thinks it's way more than she bargained for, a giant Vesi'yir male slithers right in her life.

This naga alien won't take no for an answer. He wants Edith and he will slay anyone who stands in his way. As the enemies at his feet pile up, Edith has a choice to make. Does she give in to her desires to be with him or does she let her past get in the way of what her heart truly wants?

Broken Song is a 47k word novel with action, steam and one alien hell bent on setting his own damn rules, consequences be damned.

Great read!

Edith and Krivan were wonderful together. I waited so long for this final volume in the Shattered Galaxies series and I wasn't disappointed! Edith didn't fit in on Earth and Krivan was an outcast in his world. Watching them navigate things was interesting and sweet. Loved it!

Intense!

I had to walk away a few times to get through the fight scenes, the suspense was a bit much for me but I’m glad I didn’t give up. So worth reading the HEA! I loved Krivan and Edith!

Cute and fun

Great quick read! Fast paced insta love sci-fi romance. Cell phones transport humans to strange new worlds and this time it’s a desert planet with Naga!!! Low angst, but steamy, it’s a great quick read.

Needed more explanations

I enjoy the world these different authors created together, and a desert world was a bold choice. However, there were unanswered questions about how they communicated, how outcast tribes formed (instead of becoming “defilers”), and the MMCs background. Leaving these questions, and others, unanswered left the novel feeling half baked. There were also several grammatical errors.
I didn’t really understand the attraction between the MCs beyond a trauma bond. As time went on they seemed to get along better, but it still felt a bit forced. They never discussed mutual interests or any other basic “get to know you” questions.
I liked the outcast + outcast theme of the love story, I just needed more to invest in the characters.

Spice: 1 scene

Triggers: poverty, abduction/captivity, snake bite, starvation/dehydration and survival scenarios

Perfect book to escape into

This book gave everything I was needing when I didn’t know I needed it. The right amount of possessive grumbly alpha man and the perfect amount of lady in distress. I loved it.

My reviews of the Shattered Galaxies series:
Book #1 Splintered Shadows ★★
Book #2 Ravaged World★★★
Book #3 Scattered Petals★★★
Book #4 Fractured Waves★★★
Book #5 Crushed Dominion★★★★
Book #6 Broken Song ★★
Book #7 Destroyed Desire ★★★
Book #8 Jagged Honor★★

This is the only book in the series so far to be told in third person instead of first person, so it lent itself a bit of a different vibe through merit of narration. The romance was super sudden. The sex wasn't remarkable. Not really much to say.

This one falls pretty flat because it puttered out hard in the end. The whole book is eaten up by the male lead finding the heroine, her tailing after him in the desert, and then bad guys showing up as they're on their way back to his clan's settlement, with all the issues presented and what not relegated to super easy fixes. It felt rushed, like the author realized she had loose threads to tie and was approaching the 200 page mark, so she just quickly spat out a conclusion.

The entire epilogue is just "we fixed the water and food supply shortage problem in the end, there's still some tension between everyone, but life is good, the leads have sex a lot, the end."

The scope was, thankfully, not as convoluted as book #1 was, but I think maybe the book would have done better if perhaps Krivan was a loner without a clan and Edith was his attempt at having a community and life again; maybe alongside the other two they find (one again, we get another couple introduced in the narrative so I imagine a book #2 all about them is in the works) they form their own clan and it's more about the struggles of building community in the harsh environment and not trying to overcome ancient blood feuds or whatever. Especially since we never really engage with that plot point.

Most of the story is us being told things and not being shown them, you know?

Good

Krivan and Edith

Edith is having one heck of a bad day, when it’s topped by the cellphone glitch to end all glitches… one minute she is having a pity party, the next she’s dealing with monsters on another world!

Krivan is an outcast from his people, trying desperately to find food and water for his clan of misfits. Running into Defilers wasn’t in his plans; discovering the odd alien female they’ve captured simply gives him a companion when he leaves…

Edith’s rough start in life has left her very lacking in trust, and finding herself at the mercy of an alien world and it’s inhabitants doesn’t really improve matters.
Krivan works hard to get her to trust him, but the two of them both have baggage, and the desert they’re currently inhabiting has a number of dangers.

This multi-author, shared universe, has been an enjoyable one to visit- and hopefully we will get the opportunity to visit again. Though never described as Nagas, Krivan and his people seem to be just that, and made for an intriguing and unique culture.

A thoroughly enjoyable story set in the Shattered Galaxies world, that fans of the series, and of monster/alien heroes in their SFR will love.

I wanted to like this story but there wasn't enough build for me with any of the characters. I sort of felt more drawn to the female lead because there was a lot more back story for her but we didn't get much if any for the male lead. It's a pretty short read with one maybe two scenes on the spicy scale, but the story wasn't there for me. The world was described but not as in depth as I would have preferred. There's a lot that wasn't really explained or made sense to me. It's a quick kind of enjoyable read but I wouldn't really recommend it or re-read it again.

It was ok.

I finished it, but never really got into it. There were quite a few grammatical errors. As well as skips where, say, he was holding her, then she was just on the ground. It just takes me out of the story. The connection didn't seem real between them. He went from almost hating her to loving her within a couple pages after 50% of the book not being able to stand her. Idk just wasnt a good book for me.

It was okay, a bit rushed. Didn't really enjoy the style of writing, but it's a quick read with HEA.

Two things I don’t really like in a book

1. A book that is too short
2. A book that is rushed.
