Cassidy Edgemont has been dead for four years. At least, that is what the world has been led to believe. After becoming unwittingly entangled in a group called the Coalition, known for using fake news to generate political unrest in the United States, Cas was offered a devastating choice: stage her own death and join her rescuers, the guardians, or risk the wrath of the organization she betrayed. She chose death.
As an invisible government operative, Cas has been living in Paris with no complications—until her family pays an unexpected visit to the European city, changing everything. They think Cas is dead, and she has to keep it that way. But when a bomb is detonated nearby and fake news incites riots in the city, Cas recognizes the mark of the Coalition.
Donovan, a fellow guardian, is summoned to join her in Paris to attempt to untangle the intricate web linking Cas’s past with the recent bombings. But as the threat level escalates, Cas must again make an impossible decision: face possible exposure to her family in her race to uncover the truth or risk the loss of innocent lives.
Traci Hunter Abramson was born in Arizona, where she lived until moving to Venezuela for a study-abroad program. I loved this story so much! Such amazing characters and unputdownable plot. It grips you from the beginning and you can't let go.
Cas has been officially dead for four years but actually working for the guardians while remaining a ghost. When her family comes to Paris where she's living, Donovan comes to help her untangle the web lies. And that's when the ride starts!
I really liked the European setting and I related to the main characters despite my being so different from them. There's lots of intrigue and suspense, sweet romance between Cas and Donovan, and thrilling action from the get-go. I read it as watching a Mission: Impossible movie. Highly recommend!
I received a copy from the publisher via NetGalley and this is my honest opinion.
Traci Hunter Abramson is one of my very favorite authors. Her books suck me in. They always have great characters, settings and a killer plot that keeps you interested from the very beginning.
I loved getting to read about Cas in this one. She’s been in other of the Guardian books. So it was fun to get to know her story a little bit. I loved the way she had immersed herself in Paris, almost to the point of becoming Parisian. So when she had to go somewhere else, she brought that with her. Another thing I really loved about her was that she loved to bake. It was fun to imagine the things she was baking for her and Donovan. Speaking of Donovan, Cas wasn’t quite sure about being the one needing rescued.
I really enjoyed seeing two Guardians in this one. It was fun to see the perspective they both had. I loved the way Donovan jumped in to help Cas. And the way the two of them just worked.
You really need to read this series! If you haven’t already. I love each and every one of the books.
I was sent a copy of Not Dead Yet as a gift from the publisher. All opinions are my own.
Traci Hunter Abramson has long been one of my favorite authors--between my ebook collection and paperbacks I think I own almost all of her books. Her romantic suspense is fantastic and I loved this newest addition to the Guardian series!!
Guardians are 'ghosts'. They have to be because they work in the shadows and do things that require anonymity. Cas is a Guardian who lives in Paris, which she loves, but her parents (who believe she's dead) have managed to arrive in there without any of the alerts Cas had set up going off. Donovan, another Guardian is sent in to help her leave town undetected, which turned out to be more difficult than usual because someone knows Cas is alive!!
As is usually the case with this author, this book grabbed my attention from the first chapter and didn't let go until the big bad was caught. Just when I thought Cas and Donovan were safe and could stay in one place for awhile, they were on the run again. I couldn't figure out who the bad guy was--there were so many possibilities and I kept changing my mind. This one definitely kept me up at night reading because I couldn't read much during the day. Warning: be prepared to get nothing done once you start reading this book.
I loved Cas and Donovan together, they just seemed to get each other--there were no big conflicts or arguments. Cas is a stress-baker (I wonder where the author got that idea, IYKYK) and a great cook, which leads to another warning: this book will make you hungry!! I love seeing some of the other Guardians pop up in the story and how each Guardian is able to find love and happiness although they live such unconventional lives. I know this just released but I can't wait until the next book in this series!!
I received a complimentary copy from the publisher Covenant Communications via NetGalley. I also bought a copy for my personal library. All thoughts expressed in this review are my own.
'Grip your courage with two hands,' is a phrase mentioned in this book and you will need to grip your book with two hands because the suspense starts right from the beginning.
I always love Traci's novels because it's like returning home to friends. I've been following this series since the beginning and will read until the end! Her character development is fantastic and I love the clues she throws out along the way trying to have me guess the ending before it happens! This one kept me guessing (and re-guessing) right up until the end!
I loved the intrigue in this novel based around the harm of main stream media, and the destruction that misinformation and/or propaganda can cause and how it can be used against a country. It was very intriguing in the digitally based world we currently live in.
The romance was sweet and perfectly placed into this suspense! Another two thumbs up on the latest in this series!
Thanks to the Author, Publisher & NetGalley for the copy. All thoughts in this review are my own.
Abramson is the master of romantic suspense! Not Dead Yet is the next novel in the Guardian series and a must read for any romantic suspense fan. Abramson has a way of pulling the reader in right away and keeping their complete attention the entire way through the book. Cas and Donovan’s story was full of suspenseful and heart pounding moments. Then came all of the emotions and I was hooked! Add in the mystery of who tried to kill Cas all of those years ago and you have one sleep stealing, edge of your seat, whodunnit, un-put-down-able book! Sit down and get cozy because you won’t be getting up once you start Not Dead Yet!
I received a copy of this book for free; all thoughts and opinions are my own.
All the stars for this fabulous romantic suspense from one of my favorite authors! I didn't want it to end. I need more!
In preparation for reading this book I went back and listened to all of the previous books in the series. The Guardians are a great group of characters. I loved seeing again how they are all connected and seeing more of them in this latest addition to the series. And the author is writing more books in this series!!!! Woohoo!!! Happy dance! If you can't tell, I'm really excited! I read this one but will probably listen to the audiobook very soon because they're so well done.
Being familiar with this author's writing style, I knew there were several possibilities for who the main bad guy was. I kept placing my guess (with myself) while I was reading and would cross one off, add one back on. I was constantly guessing and not at all entirely sure. And with the many twists and turns there were new suspects being added to my list. But it made the book even more fun with trying to figure it out and not knowing 100% until there were a few big reveals.
Cas is one of those characters that you quickly become invested in and can't help but like her more and more as the book goes on. She's spunky and sweet and goodhearted but watch out bad guys because she is a quick thinker and very good at protecting herself and the ones she loves and cares for! Cas, I'm on your side!!! I really liked the development of her relationship with Donovan a fellow Guardian who is called in to help her with a situation in Paris. They've worked together in the past (we haven't seen that, only find out through this book) and apparently there are some stories with those jobs. I'd love to have the author write some little short stories about those jobs because the teaser snippets about them in the book definitely have me curious. It was fun to see them working together towards protecting not only Cas but her family and many others.
One thing I love about this series (and the author's other suspense series) is seeing several aspects of these people who protect others. The physical side but also the computer and technology and behind the scenes investigating side. It's always very interesting and adds such a great layer to her books. I love that even when I'm reading for pleasure, I'm learning as well.
If you haven't read the previous Guardian books, I think you'd be fine to read this book as a stand alone. But, I love all of them and highly recommend you check them all out. I can't wait for the next one to release (I'll be patiently waiting)!
Content: Clean. There are no explicit scenes, just a few clean kisses. This book is a suspense book so there are chases, gun fights, and death, but the author writes it in a very clean way and not overly graphic at all. I listen to these with my family and my teens read and enjoy them.
I received a copy from the publisher, Covenant Communications, via NetGalley. I've also purchased my own copy. All thoughts and opinions in the review are my own.
Traci Abramson is a must-read for any fan of romantic suspense and Not Dead Yet, the latest in her Guardian series, is absolutely fantastic! ❤️
The Guardians are a trained group of covert operatives who, for their own safety, have to live as ghosts. The world believes them to be dead but they are most definitely alive, living in anonymity and working in ways that other agencies cannot.
Cas is an experienced Guardian and though she misses her family, she enjoys being stationed in Paris. Until someone from her past finds out she is still alive…and wants to make sure this time she stays dead.
On the run with fellow Guardian Donovan, Cas has to unravel a years old mystery and make sure she stays alive to save everyone she cares about…including Donovan who has become much more than a colleague.
Brilliant suspense filled with 📕plot twists that kept me on the edge of my seat 📗sweet romance that gave me happy sighs and 📘lots of food references that left my stomach grumbling. (Traci, please include the recipe for alfajores in your upcoming cookbook!)
Also immensely enjoyed getting lots of page time with Cole Bridger, a CIA operative and a main character from Heirs of Falcon Point.
If you haven’t tried the romantic suspense genre, Traci’s books are a great place to start! If you enjoy it and haven’t read any Traci books yet, what on earth are you waiting for?
I received a complimentary copy of the book but a positive review was not required.
I can’t get enough of the Guardians books by Traci Hunter Abramson. Each one gets better and better. I loved, loved the European setting. (And a visit from Cole:). I wanted to go to the bakeries! Cas is so awesome. I wish I could cook like her. Donovan was also a great character. I really enjoyed their investigation. Just the way they thought and worked so well together was enjoyable to read. Another hit for this amazing author.
If you haven't read a book by Traci Hunter Abramson, you are missing out.
In Not Dead Yet we get to know two of the guardians better, Cas and Donovan. At first, it seems that their pairing is a mismatch. Fortunately, they become a fantastic duo as they try to uncover the mastermind of a terrorist group and find that they have chemistry.
Cas "died" four years ago when she learned too much about the coalition. She joined the Guardians and became a "ghost". She works with an elite organization that protects others with their ability to hide in a crowd, rescue operatives, and have access to classified information from multiple agencies.
This book starts the suspense and action from the start. Cas's cover has been blown and she and Donovan race to shut down the coalition before they cause more destruction and threaten civilian lives. I loved the plot and the characters. Seriously, this book is so GOOD. It pulls you in and doesn't let go until the last page.
This is book six in the series, but it could be read as a stand-alone. You know there is a backstory with the characters, but that doesn't take away from this story.
I highly recommend this book and all of the Guardian books. There is non-graphic violence and a few stolen kisses.
Source: I received a complimentary copy. All thoughts and opinions expressed are my own.
Wa-hoo! I feel like cheering because we finally have another book in the Guardian series! I love this series so much. Romantic suspense!! This book is just good entertainment in reading. Danger, suspense, and a bit of romance. Smart, strong characters. What more could I want? Well, I always want more as a reader, especially from this author writing in this genre. I'm greedy like that.
Cas and Donovan have both given up so much. Life is lonely for them both and I just felt so sad for them, especially as we got to know more and more of their backstories. My heart really wanted a happily ever after sort of beginning for them. They worked well together and I loved how their friendship grew each day. It was a gentle sort of romance that took a backseat to the plot driving the story forward but I sure do love driving plots. So exciting!
I also want to go to Paris and eat all the food. Also, I was so glad to see old friends from previous books popping up in this story, giving this series the feeling of family.
I loved this book! It's a great addition to this series, which is one of my favorites. Go grab it, curl up with it and be entertained, beginning to end. Thank me later. 😉
Content: peril, mild violence, kissing.
- I received a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions expressed are my own.
Traci’s novels are always an automatic buy for me, and I was so excited to get this one early! Not Dead Yet is the latest Guardian novel. Who or what is a guardian, you ask? A guardian is someone who keeps the people who are trying to keep the world safe safe. They have their own series, but they also show up in several of Traci’s other books, and I think it’s so cool that these characters who make brief (or sometimes not-so-brief) appearances in other books have a series of their own.
Not Dead Yet is suspenseful with romance, as all the books in this series are. Once I started reading it, I didn’t want to stop! It is fast-paced, and just so good! There were things in the story that surprised me often! And I had forgotten some of the guardians’ stories, and now I want to go back and reread the series from the beginning. I also love how Traci connects several of her series’s with characters that have been in multiple ones. I feel like I know the characters, and it’s fun to “see” them again!
As far as her family and the rest of the world is concerned, Cas died in a car accident for years ago. In actuality, she survived the crash and is now living in Paris and working for the top secret guardian organization in order to stay alive and keep her family safe. When her family shows up in Paris without advance warning, she prepares to leave the city. But a bombing and fake news all over make her think twice. Could the organization that tried to kill her four years ago be behind all this? Do they know she’s alive? At least she has Donovan and the rest of the guardians to help her.
Even though this series is best read in order, as long as you’ve read the first one, Failsafe, I think you could read the others in any order without feeling lost, as long as you don’t mind knowing the couples who get together in the end of each book.
I received an advanced copy from the author and NetGalley. All thoughts and opinions are my own.
Wow! How have I not read this series before? This book was good on so many levels. The suspense starts immediately, and this book has one of the most intriguing opening paragraphs I’ve ever read. I loved the reality of what their work looks like, a lot of waiting to catch the right movement on video. One of my favorite things about this story was how well Cas and Donavan worked as a team. They both admired and respected each other. I loved how Donavan’s determination to protect Cas never led to him demeaning what she could do. He supported her so perfectly, and she did the same for him. She trusted him to be safe and have her back. I can’t imagine how hard it had to be for both of them to have to leave their families behind and start new lives. I loved how real the characters were. I also felt like the action scenes and the characters reactions were very believable. Nothing felt rushed or far fetched. Another thing that was wonderful about this book were the supporting characters; I really hope we see more of Cole in future books. Or maybe even his own book?? If your like me and have been meaning to get into this series for while-trust me and go read it now! This book is number 6 but can easily be read as a standalone.
Thank you to the author for an ARC copy. A good review was not required. All opinions are my own.
Just when I think Traci Hunter Abramson can't raise her own bar any higher, she delivers a fresh and creative book like this proving again and again why she's a master when it comes to writing romantic suspense. I really loved Not Dead Yet and could not put the book down until the very end. Extremely satisfying, this novel sucked me in from the very first sentence and the pacing was so well-done, I was engaged the entire story. Something I particularly enjoyed in this book was how relevant the plot line was to today's culture and society. Abramson really delivers an impact with her story because it is so realistic, like this could actually happen today, the villain and motivation are truly plausible. I think she represented the diverse characters particularly well and in a most respectful manner. I also love that it was two guardians for the romance and that so much of what was happening revolved around what brought Cas into the Guardians in the first place. The cameos of all the characters I have come to love in Traci's world just made it that much more special. I highly recommend this book and can't wait for what's next by this author. I received an advance reader copy of this novel. All thoughts and opinions are my own. This is a clean romantic suspense novel.
I don't really know how to do a review that will do this book or any of the books in this series the justice that it deserves. I read because I want to escape, I want to observe someone else's life other than mine for a few hours, and I want to be ENTERTAINED! I want to go places and experience professions that I would probably never consider unless I am reading it about a fictional character who is in that profession. I have no problem in admitting that I will never become a secrect agent of all any kind, I would rather read about it! All of the books in this series have done that and more. I really liked Cassidy and Donovan and I didn't want to leave them. The one thing that stood out in this book amongst all the other books is that I got a new cookie recipe out of it! If you want to know what this cookie is, you will have to read Not Dead Yet! and then you might as well read all the other books too! Recommended.
I absolutely loved this book. I have read others in the Guardian's series and this one kicked it up a notch. It also got my brain swirling with current events being what they are.
I love this team that Traci Abramson has created. I loved the Easter Eggs from other books as well.
Cas and Donovan were a great team and I liked that this book was different from the others. It is an entirely different thing when the Guardian is being guarded and trying to solve her own "murder".
The Chemistry between these two was fabulous and the story was rich in details and suspense. And until it was revealed, I was never sure who the bad guy was.
I love the interwoven nature of Traci Abramson's stories as I am never sure who I am going to see from another book.
The story was fresh and relevant. I look forward to reading it again and reading more.
I received an early copy through the publisher and NetGalley and this is my honest review.
Traci has done it again! I love her books!!! They are phenomenal and a breath of fresh air to break up my usual reads. Traci writes books that involve the CIA, FBI, and special ops teams like the Guardians and Navy Seals. The plots she creates are intricate and super entertaining. This one was a sweet romance with a whole lot of action—not the gory action, though.
Pretty much, I think everyone should at least read one of Traci’s books to get what I’m talking about. They’re exciting, interesting, and make you want to binge all of them.
Cas and Donovan are both Guardian agents and are both considered dead to the world. They are Ghosts who help the government with various missions. When they are thrown into a mission to gather intel and keep Cas safe, there’s an obvious connection between the two that’s difficult to avoid. It’s adorable. I’d highly recommend Not Dead Yet.
While this book is as well written as her others, it's the first that reads like MAGA propaganda. A BLM-type organization dupes its donors into thinking it wants equality when really they just want to destabilize the world with their international terrorism. Fake news leads to protests against the police. And a black man's history of negative encounters with law enforcement is dismissed as unlikely. It made it really hard to enjoy the story. :/
This is the sixth book in a series but, to my knowledge, the first I have read. I was a bit confused in the beginning because of that. The premise of the guardian idea is eventually revealed but I would have preferred informative background material earlier for new readers like me. I would certainly suggest reading the earlier books in this series although this book reads relatively well on its own.
Cassidy is an interesting character. She became a guardian, a secret agent in an agency funded by the US government, by surviving an accident when the world thought she was dead. As she and other guardians save the world from villains, she must also keep her identity a secret. She seemed to make some unwise decisions, however, such as logging into her parent's media company under her own name, twice. Of course, suspense ensued.
This is a novel for readers who like more personal interaction than suspenseful action. There is no suspense in the first half of the novel, for example. There is a good plot thread of romance and, in the end, a good plot line of saving people from harm. Abramson's writing style is easy to follow.
I received a complimentary digital copy of this book through Celebrate Lit. My comments are an independent and honest review.
I loved this book by Traci Hunter Abramson! I liked how we got to see Cas and Donovan, both trained guardians, work together and fall in love. I like the suspense in the story and how it kept me engaged the whole time. I also liked how Cas and Donovan had to learn to trust and work together in order to find out who was behind everything. This was a great addition to the Guardian series and I can’t wait for more.
I received a complimentary book from publishers, publicists, and or authors. A review was not required and all opinions and ideas expressed are my own.
The complexity of the Ghost/Guardians is interesting but also makes it so these stories all seem a little unrealistic. That being said, I liked the characters. I thought the ending was a little forced and all loose ends were not as neatly tied up as I would have liked but it was still a good book and worth the read.
I love the Guardian series by Traci Hunter Abramson, and this book is no exception. Ms. Abramson does a great job of weaving romance and suspense together to tell a story. I always enjoy the intrigue she creates and the mysteries that unfold in her stories. I loved getting to know Cassidy and Donovan. Starting out a bit as enemies to lovers (although they weren't exactly enemies...more, they just hadn't had super positive interactions), they quickly came to rely on each other. I loved the supporting cast of characters, some of whom we know from prior Guardian books. It's hard to talk too much else about what I enjoyed from the book (decisions that needed to be made, and how those decisions would impact their future lives) but I thought the author handled it wonderfully. While part of a series, you can read this as a standalone..
Another great page turner mystery finding out who was responsible for Cass’s need to enter the guardian program. It’s been 4 years since she faked her death and has talked with her family. She thought that the coalition that she and her boyfriend were members of to be the reason, but in having the killers find her again in Paris and having not only her life, but her family’s lives in danger with bombing, and poisoned water… things change. Donovan is there to help her.
This romantic thriller is the sixth in the Guardian series by Traci Hunter Abramsom. I’m a fan of the author's and have read most of the books in her several series. The guardian’s are US intelligence people (think elite CIA) deployed around the world. Cassidy Edgemont has officially been living as a ghost for four years currently stationed in Paris. Her family believes she died in a car crash. She has remained dead to them to protect them and to find out who wanted her dead for going to the FBI with information about the Coalition. After a bombing in Paris she recognizes the work of the Coalition. Her cover is also partially blown and fellow guardian Donovan comes to help her get to a new safe house.
Abramson uses her experience working with the CIA to help inspire her plots. You do have to suspend belief at how quickly everyone can hack into any computer and security system, but that is a minor issue. I’ve found some books in the series spend too much time spent looking at computers for information. This adventure is better at balancing that with action and imminent threats. I appreciate that the main characters are black adding diversity to the series.
I thought this adventure was very exciting. The romance in this one felt very believable and coming from time spent together even if it is brief. The writing is clean for language and intimacy. There is some kissing and PG13 violence. This can be read as a stand alone but some of the operatives that help have been MCs in previous books. Thank you to NetGalley and Covenant Communications for an eARC in exchange for an honest review. (4.5 stars)
4.5 stars. It’s another great addition to the Guardian series, one you won’t want to miss. It also is quite a bit different than the others since we deal more with Cas, Ghost’s, family. It was a fun adventure and a lot of guessing whodunnit. Well done, Mrs. Abramson
I've read and also enjoyed listening to the audio version of this book.
This is another installment of the Guardian series. This book is a fast paced read, that had me staying up late. Four years ago Cassidy Edgemont, was declared dead and has been hidden by the Guardians. Life on the run, is hard for Cas,, always looking behind and around Traci Abramson, has done it again What a great book.
Be prepared for an intense ride! This latest book from Traci Hunter Abramson had me on pins and needles with non-stop action, an intricate plot, some seriously suspenseful situations, and a sweet romance that stems from close proximity. It’s also set in beautiful Paris, the most romantic city in the world, and the food…more on that later!
Being dead has it’s advantages especially when someone is out to kill you. Cassidy Edgemont has been presumed dead for four years. The shadowy group called the Coalition tried to kill her in a car accident when she betrayed their organization, but she survived. Rather than correct the assumption of her death, she joined an invisible government agency known as the Guardians to work to bring down the organization that tried to kill her.
Now living in Paris, she’s shocked when her wealthy media mogul family arrive unexpectedly near where she’s staying. Not only is she trying to avoid her family’s notice, but someone has figured out she’s alive. Enter fellow agent Donovan who is there to help her get out of the city and also try to figure out who knows she’s alive and after her once again.
With fake news and riots incited by the Coalition, bombings, and other dastardly plots, this book kept me turning the pages! There is never a dull moment. Just when you think you might have figured out who the bad guy is, there’s a new twist.
Loved Cass and Donovan! Cass is a stress baker and makes the most delicious food and treats. (Honestly, this book made me so hungry while reading. Let’s just say it inspired me to make crepes, and crave chocolate and croissants!) Both of their pasts are messy and complicated, but I loved the way their relationship grew. It was also fun to see the author break the fourth wall and give a shoutout to her author friends!
I listened to the audiobook version and enjoyed the narrator. She was easy to listen to and I enjoyed the various accents she employed for all the different characters. Since Traci Hunter Abramson is a fairly new to me author, I haven’t had the chance to read the previous Guardian books, but this didn’t stop me from thoroughly enjoying it! It can truly be read as a standalone. I’m definitely going to go back and read the previous books now. I received a complimentary copy from CelebrateLit. All opinions are my own and I was not required to provide a positive review.
My rating 3.6 I am beginning to tire of this series, but have the newest one released in my library waiting list, so decided I better hurry and read this book so I will be prepared for the next. The series is good, just need to spread them out a little more. This book is about a black family and I liked the way the author dealt with a racial family. They were successful and educated and kind and loving as most of her guardian families are. Guardians are ghosts who have faked their death to protect themselves or people they love, then have gone into service protecting others in dangerous positions in the government.
Summary: Cassidy Edgemont has been dead for four years.
