I received this book from Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

😍 While predictable (which is a boo), I did like the mystery because I liked seeing the kids figure things out and find clues and try to make plans to capture/find the thief. It was fun that the kids, in between the show, talked and laid down the clues. That they interviewed people.
😍 Ava the daughter of Vee! I hope we see more of her.
😍 Loved learning more about the characters, and not just the main characters, but also the side-characters. Like how Vee is working hard to have money for the operation her daughter needs. Or how the actress playing the principal isn’t that bad. But also see Aubrey take a shot at singing.
😍 Very fast-paced. I read this book in a flash. Before I knew it the book was over!
😍 Seeing the acting + reading about the show! It makes me want to step into the book and just see it live. See it on TV. The show sounds right up my alley.
😍 Thena. Amelia’s pet. It was such a fun addition to add a new pet to the book and I found the choice very fun. Not just a dog or a rabbit, oh no, something more special. At least for me, I mean, I don’t know anyone with that kind of pet.
😍 The cover! It is so much fun!
😍 The illustrations! They really made the book come to life and I always have fond feelings for books with illustrations.
😍 Almost no Amelia’s Mom. Thank the heavens! I don’t like her at all, so having very little appearances in the book makes me want to rate the book higher. XD
😍 The friendship between Cody, Aubrey, and Hayley! They are such good friends and I love how they are often together, helping each other out, supporting, solving mysteries, and more!
😍 Hayley is such a fun MC. She is sweet, kind, has a knack for mystery, works hard on the show. And also knows when to apologise!
😍 Salmon! Hayley’s cat~ He is such a cutie and I just love that many people added a cat flap to their trailers so that Salmon has even more room to roam. Plus, he plays a big part in the ending with capturing the thief.

😶Still unsure about Amelia. She does show some better sides in this book, but I am still not a fan. I am glad that it feels more natural now to have her in the friendship group though, but I still wish that she was added now instead of forced in the first book (yes, it felt forced).

🙄I guessed the whodunnit from like VERY early on. And apparently that was indeed also the criminal. Please, just make it more difficult to guess. That is all the fun.

But all in all, I had tons of fun reading this book and I am glad I got the chance to do so! I still got the next book and I am hoping to read it this weekend (writing this one on the 7th of October). I would recommend this book (and the first book) to all. Mystery! Perfect for Halloween season.

Hayley Leblanc, teen actress and social media presence, returns with a second in The Hayley Mysteries series. Hayley is the star of a mystery series in which she and best friends Cody and Aubrey play a trio of mystery-solving sleuths. Hayley’s younger sister, played by younger Amelia always tries to “help” the older ones figure out the who-dun-it both on screen and in real life. In this installment, jewelry and a valuable geode are stolen and because a friend, and possibly Hayley herself, are implicated, the group sets out to find the thief, despite clear warnings by the show’s producer to stay out of the way. The storyline is straight-forward and right from the beginning, many observant 2nd-5th grade readers may spot the crook. Leblanc keeps not only the plot simple, but the vocabulary and sentence structure as well, making this an excellent choice for the younger in the target audience as well as those who desire a more approachable read in the older end of the range. Written in first person and being only 13 herself, author Leblanc’s young voice is easy to find in the main character’s dialogue (my “squad” and “fam” for family). While a good choice for a number of elementary aged students, I did find some of the almost parenthetical explanations of who people were and asides explaining TV production vocabulary to be signs of less mature writing and would rather that rich context do the job instead. On the flip side, the writer’s familiarity with the world television comes through and makes the experiences of Hayley and her friends feel realistic. Elementary libraries with a need for quick read chapter books, a readership in mysteries plus fans of the author may want to consider this one. Text is free of profanity, sexual content, and violence. Race is not defined by the content, but the cover shows one of the MCs to be Black. In other representation notes, Cody has two moms, but this fact is fairly incidental and not plot-critical.

Thanks for the preview copy, Sourcebooks!

The Hayley Mysteries: The Missing Jewels
Hayley Leblanc

7/10

So this is the second book, in which I hope will be the next Nancy drew series, the Hayley Mysteries. I would like to start with the good elements of the book for this review.
Firstly, I find while I am reading this series, I learn a lot about the acting world. I learn about new terms in acting, child laws, etc. I loved this aspect of the story because acting is awesome, and it teaches me things about being an actor, which I want to do when I grow up.
I also really enjoyed how when I am reading this book, it is like an episode of a reality TV show playing out in front of my eyes. This is like a behind the scenes book, where most of the events take place on the filming lot, while the cameras aren’t rolling. It also incorporates hidden camera show vibes, which are so cheesy. (and I am a sucker for cheesy things: Riverdale, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, Original Sin, etc.) Aside from the book, I would love to talk about the author for a minute.
Hailey Leblanc is a 13 year old influencer who has 5+ million followers on social profiles, a child actor, and now a published author with three books coming out in one year. So I want to say, “MAD RESPECT” for your hustle. I hope you will pursue writing as another career, because you are good. Now here comes the part I dread the most, talking about the things I didn’t enjoy so much.
Firstly I wanted to discuss the age this year is meant for. In my opinion the age range for this book is 8 to 12 years old. As an older reader and a lover of mysteries, I predicted he was stealing the jewels because I am always looking for the answer. I use the breadcrumbs that were laid out to find who is the culprit. Now I do think that a younger reader would not be able to guess who it is, and they would definitely love trying to figure it out. But I knew who it was.

This book is a middle grade chapter book about a girl named Hayley who is the star of a kids mystery tv series, and also solves mysteries of her own. There are about 20 chapters, and about 5 pages per chapter bringing this book in at about 180 pages. Each chapter has a very detailed black and white picture, some take up a whole page while others are small. The illustrations are definitely in the popular style and would draw in children much like the cover would. In addition, it is written by a 13-year-old social media influencer, so I think that would bring in the pre-teens as well!

It is a mystery so there are a few “scary” elements but it is mainly just a thief and things going missing. Definitely nothing for parents or teachers to be worried about. The story also has some positive lessons such as friendship, working together and being kind to others.

I could definitely see my Grade 3 students reading and enjoying this book. It is a slightly longer early chapterbook but I think that it wouldn’t be too intimidating for new chapterbook readers. I would recommend this book for children in grades 2-5, with the target audience probably being grades 3&4.

I really appreciate the opportunity from Netgalley and the publisher to read and review an advance copy of this book! I am looking forward to purchasing a copy for my students in the future!

Netgalley and Sourcebooks provided me with a copy of Hayley Mysteries: The Missing Jewels for review:

This was an impressive children's book written by a thirteen-year-old:

It's going well for Hayley LeBlanc on Sadie Solves It. However, one day, expensive studio items start disappearing. Is there a thief involved?

Despite her best efforts, Hayley becomes involved when a missing item is found in her trailer, and her favorite makeup artist is alleged to have been responsible. Hayley begins her own investigation with her two best friends' help.

Before things get worse, can they find the real culprit?

I give Hayley Mysteries: The Missing Jewels five out of five stars!

Happy Reading!

This is a quick and fun read and a nice follow up to the first book in the series.
Haley and her friends (and Amelia) are back at it, recording episodes for Sadie Solves It. There is another mystery to solve though when a crown goes missing from the set. It's paste but it is an important part of this particular episode where a princess (played by an actor famous for being a superhero) is searching for her long-lost sister. But, unfortunately, it's not the only piece of jewelry to go missing. And all signs point to one of Hayley's favorite people, Vee, being the thief. It's up to the Silver Sleuthios (like Silver Studios) to solve the mystery so Vee can keep her job and get her daughter's surgery underway.

I enjoyed this story with all the characters within. The main character were Hayley and her two friends.

Hayley is a twelve years old girl. She is in a TV show called Sadie Solves it. While filming her next show something happens again on the studio set. Her and her friends decided to try to solve the mystery. But the producer doesn't want her trying to solve it he want her to focus on her line.

This was a fun story to read. It is the second in the series. It had action and adventure throughout. It had a few giggles within.

I received a complimentary copy via Netgalley. This is my honest unbiased opinions.

Trying to read more middle grade before I teach the course in middle grade books this summer. This one was surprisingly well written since the author is only 13, but it's hard to get used to books where the denouement is too simplistic and sweet. I know, take off my adult eyes. It does have kid appeal and works for older middle grade or younger "good' readers. I liked the characters and the plot until the end. I wanted more--and it would be easy enough to have a "more" ending (i.e. a person) and still have a "clean" read.

Thank you NetGalley for an eArc copy in exchange for an honest review.

I really enjoyed this second instalment in The Hayley Mysteries. I found the mystery in this one to be interesting. I also found myself enjoying the side characters more then I did while reading the first one. The big reveal at the end was unexpected but excellently executed. Definitely a great middle grade series so far.

In book two there is a thief on the show's set and Hayley and her friends are determined to find the culprit.

I liked that trying to solve this mystery was a little harder than Hayley and her friends suspected. It had more obstacles. When the culprit was revealed it was funny and also shocking. I look forward to reading book three in this series.

I read the second Hayley mysteries book in a couple of days over my lunch break. This book was stronger than the first in the series but just as good. The series is slowly introducing us more to each character and we are getting more details since the first book really set the scene of what the series is to become.

There was much to like in the second book of the series . The children I read to enjoyed this perhaps more than the series starter and liked the fact that there was more said about Hayleys group of friends in this book. We will look forward to the next book in the series.

It's hard not to be a *little* cynical about this book, one in a series by young influencer/actress Hayley LeBlanc.

This is what I'll say. Hayley makes a game effort of dropping in behind-the-scenes "Industry" context to her story of young actors playing TV sleuths who start taking on real mysteries off screen. If you have a kid fascinated with how TV or movies are made, this could be a fun element?

Other than that though, there's just not much here. There's a Bratz-ish quality to the core crew where each character has maybe one defining characteristic. They don't feel like real people, and as active professional full time actors who spend most of the book on set they barely feel or sound like kids. We know the least about Hayley (the character, not the author) herself outside of the fact that as the show lead, she seems to default to clique leader offscreen as well. Also, she doesn't come off as particularly kind, sniping about her younger costar and sometimes sidekick behind her back and in the narration without much justification then weirdly turning around and calling her a "friend" to her face. To be fair, this is the first one I've read...maybe you get the context for this provocation more from the others, but here it just felt off-putting and a little "mean girl."

The answer to the mystery I guessed immediately, but wasn't bad in itself.

I'd recommend Goldie Vance and the Hotel Whodunit for a more solid caper. It has its own hint of stardust but characters that have more dimension... and charm.
