Devastation is the epic conclusion to Lana's story, it's the third and final book in the Darkness Rising series and I loved it. There was love, understanding, compassion, heartache, family, surprise reveals, humor and so much more. Lana and her guys have been through so much but it's not over with yet, Erbus is still out there and it's up to Lana to find a way to end his darkness.
Not gonna lie, Lana surprised me in this one. After the devastating events in Detonation, Lana managed to rise above it, she has matured, sure Lana still has her sense of humor but Lana has a seriousness that she didn't have before. With so much resting on her shoulders Lana is feeling the pressure of figuring out her new powers as a demi-god, making connections with the other realms, meeting new family, and figuring out how to stop Erbus from conquering the realms. It's a lot and while Lana's confidence may have taken a hit the guys are there for her.
I love that the guys look to Lana to lead their group but also call her out when something isn't right, but support her in her decisions and actions. Lana isn't the only one who has grown through the series, the guys have changed and it's more apparent in this book. They're starting to learn more about themselves as individuals but they're also figuring out who they are in the group. It's basically figuring out their emotions and working on their actions such as talking and trust and implementing actions. Lana and the guys have known each other for a long time, they've been together since they were children, they have so many memories and have been through so much, not to mention their past lives, they have a stronger bond than most harems, they click and are a family even without the effort. The guys are great, love them and love them with Lana, the understanding, the jokes, the steam, they're great.
This series turned out so differently than I expected, what I thought was gonna be a fae story turned into a story about the gods with other supernatural mixed in, and I loved it. I love stories about gods so this was a great twist to the series, then to add in supernaturals gave the story something new. As Lana goes on a journey to unite the realms a few new characters were introduced to the story that I would love to know more about and actually seems like they would be good candidates for spin-off series, only time will tell if we'd get them.
A few of my favorite things (besides the mythology) I loved seeing the other realms I just wish there was a little more time in each of the realms, the new characters are great and as I said I would love to know more about them, and the family craziness. Lana has a whole other family that she had no idea about but she seems to click with some of them. It would have been great to see Lana get to know them more, to see more conversations and banter between Lana and her new relatives. While I am happy with what I got I would have loved more.
Devastation was a fantastic conclusion to Lana's story. The action and adventure were great, the steam was delicious, family drama, magic, relationships, and the epic battle made Devastation a fantastic read. The story went by too fast and I'm gonna miss Lana and the guys but I'm looking forward to new stories from Ms. Caulder.
