All her life, Sabine has been intrigued by the humans—the tales of their bustling cities, busy streets, and especially their grand theaters. But as a Fae princess of West Faerie, and the kingdom’s future queen, Sabine is forbidden from crossing the bridge that leads into human territory.

When Sabine’s mother falls ill, she realizes this might be her last chance to experience all the things she’s only heard of in stories. She sneaks out of Faerie and travels to Davon, the capital of Valsta, and discovers the human world has a magic that’s all its own.

But the beauty of the city is a mirage. Dark people lurk in shadowed corners, waiting to take advantage of a young Fae woman who’s wandered somewhere she doesn’t belong. Soon, Sabine finds herself trapped in an opulent prison, caught up in a web of crime and betrayal that extends all the way into her own kingdom.

Her only hope of escape is in the hands of a human—one of her captors. Sabine is determined to win Alexander over no matter the cost, but when their battle of wills becomes a battle of hearts, neither is prepared for the consequences…

The Gilded Fae is an enemies-to-lovers fantasy romance, with a touch of angst and lots of chemistry. Each book in the series is a complete story, and although it’s best to read them in order, there are no cliffhangers.

This is a fun series. I liked the first book and found a short about prince Aliric who is in this one and am waiting for his story. Her website has some free novellas about her series. The first book (The Masked Fae) was about her brother falling in love with a human. He is not the future monarch she is. She is upset at her brother that he would complicate his life so much and marry a human. I liked what the author did with this one. She put this princess in the shoes of the humans and it worked really well to tell a story of how sometimes your point of view is off and when you walk in another's shoes it really can change the way you feel about something.
The love story was great. These two had some good on again off again chemistry. There is some make out and good kisses. 14 and up. The ending was satisfying. Leaving a couple open ends for the other stories but completing this one. I love that. Nothing I hate worse then cliff hangers.
Her books are just super entertaining for me. I don't get bored.

2.5 stars. Overall I felt like this was a pretty superficial romance. Not my favorite by the author.

Characters- While these characters have had traumatic experiences that could and should have added depth and complexity to their characters, these conversations and issues were glossed over.
I’m talking about him being enslaved by the fae and terribly abused for a year+, not to mention the survivor’s guilt he surely felt from having escaped and leaving all his friends still enslaved.
And for the FMC, she experienced abuse and severe manipulation at the hands of her mother, the queen.
But they never really talked about these experiences and how it affected them besides surface level comments. I was disappointed by that.

Romance- Chemistry was okay.

Content-
Language- no swearing
Substance abuse- none
Spice- clean, a couple kisses
Cliffhanger- no. Standalone.
Cover- I really like it!
Format- KU

How I rated the series-
Book 1, “The Masked Fae” - 3.5 stars
Book 2, “The Gilded Fae” - 2.5 stars
Book 3, “The Disgraced Fae” - 2.5 stars

(I felt that this particular series was weak, but I have really enjoyed some of her other books!!!)

Revenge ricochet

Sabine's story is even more intense than Brahm's. She takes a Roman Holiday to see if she can find a man from her past without realizing that he had ended up becoming one of her mother's victims & is rather damaged as a result.

The consequences of her trip nearly lead to an outcome as horrible as it was when her mother was ruling.

The story is absolutely riveting & I couldn't put it down until it was finished. I loved it! And can't wait to find out Drake's story as he's the most in need of healing of them all 💕

*Romance level: passionate kisses, nothing graphic

Ahh I loved this book!! Read it in two days. 😆😍 I’ve been so excited for Sabine’s story ever since reading The Masked Fae, so I couldn’t wait to read it! It was a bit darker than the first one, but still thoroughly enjoyable and pretty clean! (The author always writes clean books, zero sexual content or edging the line, but they can be a little descriptive at times) The romance was so good and satisfying! 😍 The world building was really cool even through we spent most of the time out of the fae land. The characters were all amazing! Shari does a great job writing compelling side characters. I’m now really looking forward to Drake’s story in the next book (which hasn’t come out at the time of writing this) The Disgraced Fae!!

I’ve probably said this in every review of Shari L Tapscott’s books, but she is by far one of my all time favorite fantasy authors!!! 😍😍😍 I HIGHLY recommend any of her books!

My heart. 🥺 Read for swoony moments, heart-aching moments, and everything in between. The resolution pacing happened faster than I would have liked, but overall, I was happy with this instalment! Sabine & Alex deserved their HEA. 💛

love the author

I love this author. She’s so talented, however, this book didn’t do it for me. I still peeled through it quickly…but if I’m honest, that had more to with the talent of the author than the actual story. The heroine forgave her counterpart so quickly for such a severe betrayal. It could have (and should have) dragged on longer with the enemies portion of the story. That was my biggest complaint. Overall I’d say the story was a little dry without a lot going on and part of that was due to a quick forgiveness and no tension from her family trying to rescue her or his friend for berating him. The tension between the main characters was there. But I just wish the story had more tension, aside from the romance.

Meh. Not my favorite. I found the characters not very likable. The main guy was a drunken jerk most the book. This was a book I could have easily put down and forgotten all about.

Even better than the first book, The Gilded Fae follows the story of Sabine, Brahm’s sister and the west fae princess now set to be crowned queen as her mother still lingers unconscious in that rebounded curse.

Sabine, however, doesn’t want to be queen. She’s never been outside of her kingdom and she wants to see the ocean, visit a large city and perhaps find the human boy who she shared her first kiss with five years earlier.

Alex, part of an acting troupe invited to faerie as entertainment for her sixteenth birthday, Sabine stole away that night and not only shared that fateful kiss, but he stole her heart as well. Maybe, just maybe he’s still acting in the human capital and she could see him perform again… maybe share another sweet kiss before she is doomed to remain within her realms borders as its monarch.

The trouble is that five years may not have been quite long enough. She doesn’t know this, but something traumatic happened after the troupe’s caravans went to leave her mothers realm, and he has no idea Sabine was innocent about it all.

So when Alex’s cloudy judgment leads him to magically restrain Sabine so she is unable to return home, will he be able to make amends to rectify this horrific mistake before they destroy one another?

A beautifully woven love story with a bit of everything- thugs, payoffs, showbiz, betrayal, innocence and anger all woven together to remind us that not only are we not responsible for the faults of our parents, but that redemption can be found even if all hope is lost and it is never too late to figure out just what it is you want and fight for it.

Sabine surprised me here, given she is not the most likable character in book one. Amazing that with a change of view we can see a lot clearer who she is and the choices before her. And Alex… he’s a charmer off the bat so when our youth meet again it is a shock to learn what and why he feels the way he does now. Both of their stories will clutch your heartstrings and swing from comedy to tragedy to love and to fear before releasing you gently at the end.

I had no expectations to really fall for this and was pleasantly smacked upside the head with its pages.

Not for preteens though- our lovers come close to temptation, but manage to hold out (yay), but there is kidnapping, human trafficking, forced marriage and torture involved which may be a bit much for your everyday elementary age kid.

And now I am off to read book three where Eleanor is actually alive???? Heck, yes!

This was a fun book! I ended up finishing it in a day. The Gilded Fae is the second book in Shari L Tapscott’s Royal Fae of Rose Briar Woods. I was a bit worried about this one because I didn’t know how it was going to work, but it ended up being really good.
Sabine is the heir and she is expected to be better. There are rules that she must follow and expectations to be met. I liked Sabine, she was stubborn but she grew to be kind. As a fae, she was more harsh and at times could be cruel but I loved her growth as a character. She learned to see humans as equals and she even found herself along the way. But what would she do when she started to fall for a human? She was to be the queen and had to choose her people.
Alex was a great character, there was a lot of depth to him. At first, I did not understand him but reading more really helped. He was wary of trusting others because of his past, but he wasn’t sure how to feel about Sabine. Alex had to figure out how to not give up on his dreams but also what it meant to move on. He had to learn to see Sabine as a person and not just a fae.
I enjoyed Alex and Sabine’ romance. They definitely had chemistry. They did not always get along, but I feel as if it fit them both. They were both determined and stubborn people. They had to learn to trust each other again. The plot was also engaging, I was not sure how this book was going to end and I did not want to stop reading it.
The Gilded Fae was a great book and I would totally recommend it. I would recommend it to older teens because of some of the themes, but it is still what I would consider clean. The Gilded Fae is a clean fantasy romance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book which I received from the author. All views expressed are only my honest opinion, I was not required to write a positive review.

I enjoyed it

I really enjoy the setting of this series. Unlike the last book, this book is mostly set in a human town, Davon, and I liked the ambiance the city had, and the theater in particular. I enjoyed all the characters--I hope to see more of Alaric!

The main characters, Sabine and Alex, are likeable. It's kind of weird, though, because I liked them as characters, but not necessarily as a couple. It was a little off to me, or maybe just not to my taste. It was sort of insta-lovey, then briefly enemies then to lovers... But the thing that made them enemies (avoiding spoilers here), while not glossed over, still felt like it didn't have enough repercussions to their relationship... Or maybe Sabine is just more forgiving than I am, just acts differently than I would expect when twitterpated. Even though Alex sort of "did her a favor" and somewhat regretted his decision pretty soon after, it honestly felt out of character for him, and just to further the plot. There were "reasons" he did what he did and I guess it's feasible given the circumstances, but I just didn't like it. Also, I wish I could have seen what Brahm did when he found out. I was disappointed that wasn't in the novel.

Anyway, overall I liked the book. It wasn't my favorite by Shari L. Tapscott and I think I liked the first book more, but it's good. I'll definitely read the next one about Drake. I'm interested to learn more about him.

The Gilded Fae is a new Fantasy Romance by Shari L. Tapscott and the second book in her Royal Fae of Rose Briar Woods series that I really enjoyed. After The Masked Fae I couldn’t wait to read Sabine’s story and it was even better than I expected!

Sabine is the future queen of West Faerie but she doesn’t want the throne so when the opportunity presents itself she decides to visit the human lands for a few days. There she meets Alexander, a human theater owner she first met five years before when he performed during her birthday celebrations. They never forgot each other and the connection they felt during their first meeting. Due to some events Sabine is forced to spend more time in human lands with Alex and she will soon need to make important decisions regarding her future as the queen and her growing feelings for Alex.

I really liked our main characters, Sabine was really strong and likeable FMC who always stood up for herself and didn’t let others dictate her actions. While I didn’t agree with some of Alex’s choices he ultimately won me over with his devotion to Sabine and I could understand how his past affected his feelings and decisions in the present. This book was really fast paced, I read it in one sitting always wanting to know what happens next. Really enjoyed it and can’t wait for Drake’s book!

I loved this book. It was entertaining and serious at the same time.

TW: human trafficking, slavery
There are no deep descriptions of the character's time in slavery, but the trafficked character does show his scars. The book and its characters do not condone this behavior: they clearly portray trafficking as evil and vile.

Romance: 3 stars
- Although this book is primarily shelved as romance, I personally think that the romance leaves something to be desired. There weren't cozy moments, but there weren't *cringe* moments, either.
Character development: 4 stars
- The characters are dynamic. We are told the backgrounds of the FMC and MMC, as well as how they fall in love.
Dialogue: 4 stars
- The dialogue is more serious than humorous, but no words are said for no reason.
World-building: 5 stars
- The fantasy world in this book is one of the most original I've read.
Writing syntax: 5 stars
- The way the words were put together was amazing. The author uses diverse ways to communicate her meaning.
Overall: 4.5 stars
- I definitely recommend this book!

Steamy content:
A few kisses, nothing sexual. No curse words, no swearing, no sex innuendos.

*Guide*
1 star - horrible
2 stars - could be better
3 stars - average
4 stars - excellent
5 stars - exceptional

This story hit the spot for me this week. It had just enough angst, great sparking chemistry and of course, danger lurking. The prologue gave a great starting base for this couple and the connection they had for a few brief moments. Even though their re-meeting place is filled with hurt and misunderstanding, the sparks were there. I loved how their knowledge and friendship grew naturally and steadily.

I especially loved Sabine and her desire to experience and participate in a world so foreign to her. She was kind and her motivations were always to protect and help. Mostly Alexander. Because she looooooves him.

This is book two in this series and each book can stand alone. No cliffhangers! You might be happier if you read them in order as each book is based on a sibling in the family but you don't have to. I think the first book gives a great understanding for the very, very evil mother that this second book doesn't delve deeply into, so there's that to consider.

Content: mild peril, kissing. Mention of torture.

So good!

I adored the Masked Fae. I wasn’t sure what to make of The Guilded Fae though. I really wanted Drake’s story, so I waited until his came out and read them back to back.

Sabine and Alex met when she was 16, and they didn’t reunite until five years later. They both grew hard and jaded during that time, Alex more so than Sabine. For good reason. He does the unthinkable, even though he’s remorseful shortly after. Even though she was in a terrible state, Sabine was quite humbled. I think it was a good lesson for her, even though the circumstances weren’t great. But it gave her perspective didn’t have before.

As much as I love Alex and Sabine, it was heartbreaking how long they had to wait to be together. (*Spoilers: For all the reasons Sabine didn’t want to be queen, it’s pretty messed up she passed it on to an infant.)

So excited to read Sabine's story as she takes her "roman holiday" to find the boy she hasn't been able to stop thinking about for the last five years.

Read if you love:
Fantasy with fae and magic
Great worldbuilding
Dual POV
Theatre life
Forbidden love
Second chance romance

I loved the second chance romance aspect BUT I will say that Alex did a few things that bothered me a bit and I am not 100 percent sure he every truly redeemed himself, though in his defense he did admit that he messed up. I loved that we got more world building in this one way beyond what the first book showed us, and I loved that there were no cliffhangers though I was NOT expecting the story to end the way it did. Best side character was definitely Alaric and I can't wait to read his story some day!

TW: mentions of torture/slavery though nothing graphic described

After meeting the aloof Sabine in the first book I was hesitant to read about her in this second offering. However, Sabine is queenly but also childlike in her fascination with the human world. She comes to appreciate humans and their side of the natural world that she has never experienced. Alex is taciturn at first, but finally seems to realize what his heart has known all along. Unfortunately, someone else discovers Sabine's identity and is determined to use her and her kingdom for their own nefarious plans. I can't say more without spoiling the ending, but I am looking forward to book 3.

I love how the themes of these books are swapped. The first one is basically what happens when a human enters the Fae realm and the this is basically what happens when a Fae enters the human world. I loved this book but boy it was a little crazy! Both the main characters start out so twisted but you see their character growth throughout the story. Seeing how they both helped to heal each other just makes the ending that much more sweet!

I think I liked this story better than the first in the series. At least, I liked Frederick and Alaric. I am wondering if I was expecting something different after reading the book blurb and that is why I’m having a hard time liking this one.

I still feel like there isn’t much going on plot wise, and the solution was so rushed. The romance left a lot to be desired…Alex shouldn’t have done what he did. It was hard to feel comfortable with them falling in love after that. And the ending/epilogue was really disappointing. Maybe I didn’t like this one more than the first book after all…

An improvement from the first book, but still didn’t really love this one either. The enemies to lovers aspect was very mild and there was once again insta love happening between the couple. Thankfully, this was a pretty short and quick read. I was able to finish it over a few days. I’m not sure if I’ll continue with the series as I find the books to be alright. Nothing terrible, but nothing special either.

Fantastic!

The Gilded Fae was a fantastic book! Having read the previous one in the series, The Masked Fae, I wasn't sure if I could get behind Princess Sabine as the main character, but I was so wrong. I loved Sabine, and I thoroughly enjoyed trying to figure out the back plot all the while that she's trying not to fall in love with Alex. (And then not trying so hard. Those were my favorite scenes!) As usual, I can't wait for the next book!

Although brief, their first encounter never quite left them. I love how Sabine traveled to an unknown place in search of the love her heart knew. Alexander also could never run far enough away from Sabine's memory. Even though many things happened in the interim, their hearts couldn't quite dismiss the other. Tapscott told a perfectly woven tale of lost and found love with betrayal and forgiveness to come to a happily ever after. I can't wait for Drake's book!!!

The retold story you didn't know you wanted

This was so much fun to read! It's a wonderful roller-coaster of emotions! Anger, frustration, excitement! Sabine is a fun heroine to root for, to watch grow, and to root for. Alex fumbles hard, but realizes his mistake and does what he can to make it up (b/c some mistakes you can't fix on your own).

A little Beauty and the Beast, and a little Singing in the Rain, and whole lot of adventure!

This was a very entertaining read. The storyline was very believable between the two main characters, and the emotional push and pull between them was great, in spite of obstacles having to be overcome, including emotional obstacles and very real offenses.

I definitely look forward to the rest of the series, and I greatly enjoy being able to follow the characters from previous books in throughout the series.

Book 2 was a step up from book 1, with more action and a faster pace. The romance was a little… odd, but their strange relationship somehow worked, and the book was definitely entertaining.

It gets a little bleak for a bit, but the ending is really good.

Content:
There is no foul language. There are some steamy kissing scenes, but it does stay clean. There is some violence (not excessive) and human trafficking. There is magic. There are no references to faith or God.
