Wow! What an incredible story!

When a solitary, wealthy tycoon, Meric, finds himself at the right place/right time to save a woman, Lilliana, from her human traffickers, the only solution to keep her safe is a marriage of convenience. Things get intense as Meric tries to provide a safe space for Lilliana to heal, all the while Lilliana slowly discovering secrets, little by little, that Meric is desperate to keep hidden….

Unlike most ‘marriage of convenience’ tropes, I felt like this one was a lot more realistic and gritty as opposed to the typical pacing of this trope.

I love how Melissa Koslin played with the typical rise & fall pacing of the storytelling. It made it unpredictable without being unrealistic!

Melissa Koslin, this was a difficultly beautiful story of God’s redemption and how He is always with us throughout our troubles….AND how He transforms our identity!

Dangerous Beauty by Melissa Koslin - 4.5 Stars
Blog post: https://bookloveramanda.blogspot.com/...

Wow, what a powerful story! Dangerous Beauty is a Christian, romantic suspense story that follows Liliana, a young woman who escapes human traffickers and is pushed into a world she is unfamiliar with. As her journey towards safety unfolds, she meets Meric, a wealthy, mysterious man who offers her protection through marriage. However, Meric's past harbors is own dark secrets, which could threaten their future.

Melissa did a great job portraying Liliana's resilience and courage, allowing readers to witness her inner transformation. The trauma Liliana carries is dealt with sensitively and Melissa handled the topics in this story with such care, I really appreciate that. Liliana's gradual steps toward healing are a key element in the story. The growing relationship between Liliana and Meric builds tension, keeping the reader engaged as the plot deepens with layers of intrigue, especially as they grow to know one another and gain trust of each other.

This book balances action, romance and suspense well, with a pace that keeps you engaged and eager to see what unfolds next. You really feel for both Meric and Liliana as they have been through so much and need to process through their healing. Recommend for readers who like the marriage of convenience trope and a good Christian romantic suspense that graciously handles important topics. I am looking forward to reading more by this author in the future!

The only reason this is 4.5 and not 5 is because I would have liked a little more in the ending with Meric's healing and faith journey - maybe an epilogue here or another chapter if possible. I loved his character SO much and how he really protected her.

*Trigger warnings for: human trafficking, SA, abuse, but all was handled well and there was not explicit details. Enough to have you empathize with the situation and characters but not too much detail in my opinion.

Do not start this book until you have the time to read it in one gulp. This is a really fresh twist on a marriage of convenience with the potential for pages of suspense. The hero and heroine are each hugely compelling and I just wanted to protect them both. It’s also a sweet story of the healing power of hope. Highly recommend this novel for those who adore romantic suspense with a fresh twist.

I really have no idea how to write a review that would give this book justice.
I picked this book up because I loved Melissa Koslin's first book. I had no idea what the book was about until I started reading. Wowzers, this book was intense, but in a good way. And even though the subject manner was a very heavy topic, somehow, she managed not to weigh my emotions with the weight of the topic. I was still very invested but didn't feel the need to close the book and take a breather. The book was not at all what I expected but definitely going on my favorite's list.

Disclosure: I received this book free from the publisher/author. The opinions I have expressed are my own, and I was not required to write a review. I am disclosing this in accordance with the Federal Trade Commission’s 16 CFR, Part 255.

Characters: Meric and Liliana reminded me of the kind of characters you'd find in an action movie. Which was fine and worked for this book, but I prefer characters who are more human, average, and relatable.

Language: Clean.

Moral/theme: This novel featured themes of sacrifice, courage, and overcoming tragedy. The faith content was limited to a few prayers and a conversation or two about God.

Plot: Dangerous Beauty contained high stakes and moments of action/suspense, but it also focused on Liliana's developing relationship with Meric and her adjustment to her new life in the US.

Romance: Clean. Just kissing.

Writing: Melissa Koslin's clear, unique writing style worked well for this book.

Overall: Dangerous Beauty was an entertaining read that I'd recommend to those who enjoy Christian fiction and romantic suspense.

A great 4.5 Thriller

I heard of this book on Book Tube and so glad I picked it up. This book is about Liliana who is kidnapped by sex traffickers and then killed her family. Meric finds her when she escapes and then married her to save her from anymore wrong. Can they together fight the sex trade and save many more like her? Can they ever heal enough to have a real marriage?

Really this book was wonderful. At first I didn't think all the things that were happening could. But when you read on all starts to make sense. It will have you all over the place wondering who really kidnapped her and are they still after her. Both characters are broken but through faith and love they make it through their hurts to start a better life. I highly recommend this book.

Dangerous Beauty was to me a page turning - stay up late - and missed my Sunday nap good book. From page one I could not put this story down.

The action from being chased by very BAD men and Liliana's willingness to help others in the same situation made this novel a book I relished from start to finish. The subject is horrifying. Liliana is rescued by the hero from being people trafficked and entered into a marriage of convenience. He is her rescuer and savior.

Y'all, I'm telling you that Meric Toledan is my new book boy friend. This hero was smart, broody, compassionate, protective, tough as nails and beautiful inside and out. The heroine, Liliana was also smart, brave, and a compassionate survivor. She too a beautiful person inside and out. The romance was so precious and sweet. Dangerous Beauty is a perfect title for this romantic suspense thriller.

I honestly don't know quite how to go about reviewing this: there were a lot of mixed, loaded emotions with this one, and what a read to start out 2025!
As you would expect, there were a lot of heartbreaking and painful moments that literally made me sick to my stomach and angry. The fact that human trafficking is such a large scale crime and is something that is happening right now as we all go about our daily lives fills me with such sorrow, anger, and pain. The author did a great job of tapping into that reality and creating a pulse-pounding story that had me feeling such empathy and a call to action against such evil. Long story short, wait to pick this up if you're looking for something fluffy and non triggering.
I LOVED Liliana as a character: her growth, her tenacity, her ability to bravely, kindly, and boldly step into rescuing others despite the horror she endured moved me and had me rooting for her.
On the flip side of this, I appreciated Meric's protection of her, but his constant stonewalling and silence was a bit frustrating to me. On the hand, I understood it, but on the other, I would've loved to see more character and faith growth from him. One other thing that kept this from being five stars for me personally was the somewhat repetitive nature of the plot and story progression, but that plot twist at the end totally shocked me!
This story didn't quite live up to the hype I'd heard personally, but it was most definitely a moving, powerful, and important story of hope that I'm glad I finally read for myself and own!

4.5 stars - Review Update

This thrilling and fast-paced story about a woman on the run from escaping some men trying to traffic her and how a mysterious rich man saves her in the moment is a wild ride and I devoured this in 2 sittings. I felt the author handled the topic respectfully and with care but didn't shy away from the realities of human trafficking. I LOVED the faith elements and growth from Liliana but wanted more of those elements for Meric. I was left slightly disappointed in how it was wrapped up because I wanted more. Definitely highly recommend, if you love Christian suspense.

My review is my own and I greatly appreciate Netgalley for allowing me to read and review this book.

The first line had me wanting more, “She Ran. She’d finally orchestrated an opportunity, and she’d run!

Liliana Vela feared for her life. She’d been running through the woods for miles and was clueless as to her location. Where could she go where they wouldn’t find her? Then she sees bright lights, it’s a truck stop. There she could splash water on her face and rest for a little while.

Suddenly, a woman spies her in the bathroom and asks if she’s ok. Then things start to happen beyond her control. The police are called. What to do? Then she meets a man who says he can help her. Can she trust him?

She later learns the man that helped her is a wealthy businessman named Meric Toledan, a man of his word. Why is he helping her and keeping her safe? It’s a mystery she wants to solve.

I love how the author tells the story from Lilliana and Meric’s point of view, as readers can feel both of their struggles to do the right thing as Meric has his own demons chasing him. I enjoyed getting to know these two flawed characters and see them naturally struggle with their faith and trying to walk carefully as not to have their emotions take over their lives, but let their mind, and body heal from the trauma.

I appreciated how the author showed the harsh reality of sex-trafficking (not too graphic) and what people are doing to combat it. This is a brilliant, beautiful, multilayered story with complex characters my heart broke for. If you haven’t read this author’s debut novel ,Never Miss, you should. This author is one to watch.

This book by Melissa was quite the ride! As someone with a huge passion and having worked and learned in the advocacy surrounding human trafficking for years, this book was a refreshingly honest look at what truly goes on, the repercussions thereof and even goes so far as to tell a story of hope and healing after traumatic experiences.

The characters were relatable and there is a simplicity to the writing style that was not only refreshing, but kept me engaged and turning pages long into the night.

The realities of Human Trafficking aren’t shied away from, but in it’s straightforward approach, I found the story telling did it justice without dragging the viewer through the nitty gritty details. Koslin did an amazing job balancing honesty with tactfulness and I highly recommend this book!

The only thing that just didn’t resonate with me as well was the more shallow writing style. I wanted to know more and see more of their life, and the ending was so quick, I would have loved just a SMIDGE more to get to experience the full ending of the story.

But this will be a book I recommend to those who want to read stories about trafficking and as a resource paired with a story that will leave you with a book hangover!

Content: Mentions of human trafficking, physical attraction, and the struggle with overcoming trauma from SA and abuse. No language and overall it’s handled incredibly clean and tactful!

"Dangerous Beauty" is a Christian romantic suspense novel. The main characters were likable, honorable people who reacted realistically to events. I cared about what happened to them. Meric believed he would become a cruel, selfish man like his (unknown) father if he didn't keep strict control over his emotions and actions. He worked undercover to save sex-trafficked women only to happen across Liliana, who had escaped her captors but was about to be recaptured. He helped her escape but also married her to continue to protect her. He's unfailingly kind and considerate, helping her through her trauma. She's not only beautiful and resilient but very smart, quickly adapting to living in America. But she also wants to help save others like her as well as help her guilt-ridden husband--if he'd only tell her why he feels so guilty.

Meric and Liliana supported and brought out the best in each other. Meric completely respected Liliana and her decisions while also doing his best to keep her safe. They had to work through some misunderstandings and learn more about each other. The suspense remained high due to several attempts to recapture Liliana and because the bad guy tried to frame Meric as a criminal in order to get her away from his protection.

The Christian part was mostly brief mentions of how Liliana's faith helped her through everything she experienced. There was no sex or bad language. Overall, I would recommend this enjoyable, exciting suspense novel.

So, I devoured this book in a little more than a day, it was just incredibly good! Melissa Koslin takes the human trafficking issue and the marriage of convenience trope and ramps it up. Be aware that the sexual aspect of trafficking is not the main theme here whatsoever! Everything is handled with grace and compassion. Beautiful Liliana and seemingly cold Meric make a strange couple, but they are battling demons that the average person rarely even stops to think about. They have both seen a dark side of life that few have, and both of them are also struggling to find their way to healing and happiness. The question is, can they find it with each other?

I’ve read Ms. Koslin’s debut, Never Miss and thoroughly enjoyed it and highly recommend it. I will definitely be keeping up with the author to see what’s coming up next for her.

We are not bound by our circumstances; life is what we make of it.

This tale is one of courage, strength, love, and understanding. Liliana has all of these in spades, and it shines throughout the book. Yes, she may have arrived in the US under some harsh conditions, but she doesn't let this bring her down. Meric has his own demons he is battling that make it hard for him to recognize that life doesn't have to be mired in the past.

This book addresses a difficult topic, trafficking. This happens more than we probably realize, and possibly in our own neighborhoods and cities. However, we see that there are people out there that try and stop this from happening when they can. Meric just happened to be in the right place at the right time and was able to extract Liliana from a potentially harmful situation. His actions at the beginning and throughout the book reflect the type of man he is. But these are also his weaknesses because he saw Liliana and fell in love with her beauty right away. But because of his own history, he holds himself back, knowing that Liliana needs to heal from her ordeal. But holding back sends mixed signals, and if I were in Liliana's shoes, I know that I would be confused as she was.

Liliana is more formidable than Meric gives her credit for. She is not afraid of much and is willing to fight for what is right. She dives head first into helping rescue other trapped women so they don't endure a fate that might be worse than death. I was in awe of her character and wondered if I could do the same if I were in her shoes. I think Meric's past held him back, and while he wanted Liliana to heal, it was apparent that he had his own issues that he wasn't addressing, and it took nearly the entire book to fully understand his position.

The story encompasses approximately a month, but a lot happens during that time; it kept me wondering what could possibly happen next for these characters. Will they stop others from trafficking women? Will they stay safe and away from harm? The story is like an onion, and each chapter peeled back layers of the characters and the various situations. The various characters will either endear you to them or despise them.

I was surprised at the number of characters that thought Meric was holding Liliana captive. She was free to roam about as she pleased, which was not the case for some others we discover later in the book. Their hearts might be in the right place, but they couldn't have been further from the truth.

This book may not be for everyone, but I enjoyed it and look forward to this author's next book.

We give this book 4 paws up.

I was worried this book would be too much for me. I was happy it didn’t contain graphic and haunting details of sex trafficking. I felt like it was written with discretion while still diving into such a very real and heavy issue. That was well done.

Can I just say I loved all of the main characters? Liliana, Meric, Alfred and Bandos characters were so well written. The author created characters with such detail but without being over descriptive. I really enjoyed the authors writing style.

Definitely action packed and suspenseful, with a mystery element that led to a five star ending in my book.

Was it faith based and clean? Very lightly faith based. It was gently sprinkled in there. I was a bit disappointed the faith based element was so light. I would have like to have seen a second main character impacted by the faith of another, but that never happened. There were some romance scenes but nothing inappropriate or steamy. And nothing graphic within the trafficking scenes.

Wow. Melissa Koslin is a great storyteller. This story deals with the VERY heavy topic of human trafficking. However, it’s written in such a way that I was constantly engaged, eagerly reading to see what would happen next. I felt like Melissa dealt with the topics really well. Victims of human trafficking have a lot of trauma. So I was interested to see how she would pull off the whole marriage of convenience trope in a way that wouldn’t be uncomfortable or unrealistic for the characters. Overall, it was really well done. The story was fabulous. The writing style was captivating. The characters inner thoughts and actions really felt real. I definitely got vibes from some of the real human trafficking stories that we have seen over the past few years (Epstein for one). There isn’t anything graphic or explicit described. Christian themes are there but light. There are mentions of prayer and God. So for this face-paced thriller type book, everything is done REALLY well. There are several additional things that I would have loved to see BUT that would have pushed this book into a different genre. For example, I would LOVE a longer storyline that dove deeply into both characters — a more personal look at Meric and Lilianna. Something with deep character growth, trauma healing, and Christ-centered redemptive themes. Think “Francine Rivers” style. BUT like I said, I don’t think this was meant to be that kind of story. And in the end, it’s a GREAT story that I HIGHLY recommend! It’s the fastest that I’ve read a book like this in a long time!

From page one this book was non-stop action and adventure. It's going to be really hard to pick a favorite book of the year, because this one made it to the top. If you like a really good action movie mixed with romance, pick this book up.

Liliana has just escaped from Mexico from human traffickers. She runs into a man named Meric at a gas station who saves her life. But in order to remain in the US, he asks her to marry him in name only to keep her safe. What follows is action, thrills and excitement.

Our two main characters must learn to trust each other in order to survive what's coming next. I loved Meric, he was the perfect book hero. He was kind and gentle but really struggled with his hard past and blamed himself for everything that went wrong. Liliana won't let what happen to her get her down, she is determined to move on with her life and let God heal her...even if she has to go after the bad guys herself

Rumors of Meric being involved with women and dangerous men, the police knocking at the door, strangers coming in the apartment all the time. Just so much stuff happening, don't wait to pick it up because you won't want to miss this.

I enjoyed this second novel by this author more than the first. Things which bothered me in the first - too much focus and in depth thoughts on physical attraction - was improved on in the second - the characters did acknowledge deep attraction, but nothing that left me uncomfortable.

The suspense plot about the human trafficking was saddening. Meric was strong and made me think of James Bond - never looses a fight but did get hurt. Liliana was also strong and did not let what happened to her overcome her.

This author has an unique style. It is difficult to compare her to some of my favourite suspense writers, because the style is quite different for me.

I really wanted more of a Christian theme and that God is the one who saves and protect, not people. It felt like Liliana only saw Meric as her protector and saviour and for a Christian publisher, want the focus on the on true God.

Thanks to Revell for the free book.
I have lots of conflicted feelings about this book. I think that the author did a great job of taking this hard topic and wrote it in a way that was approachable but not too graphic. She was able to capture the real problem there is with human trafficking, and I hope this book can bring more awareness to this topic.
But with a topic like this and using the characters to 'heal' each other absolutely did not work for me. There is therapy for a reason - and a good Christian counselor, even, would've helped me like the resolution better. Both of these characters had dealt with extreme trauma, and I just don't buy the whole healing each other. With this being a Christian publisher, I would've even liked to see something about God doing the healing within these characters, but two people who have just going at it alone trying to heal with another broken person didn't seem realistic, so I didn't buy into the romance at all.

Taken by the cartel and sold, Liliana is carried across the border for delivery. A mysterious man intervenes to save her and creates more mystery when he offers to marry her to keep her safe. Their relationship is tenuous at best, he provides for her and gives her space and freedom to heal, but his true identity remains hidden. Until circumstances force his hand and she becomes involved, he starts to realize the depth of his feelings for her.

I find the author has a unique voice in her descriptions and writing style. The story was enjoyable, watching all the threads unravel to bring the bigger picture. The heroine is a strong, resilient woman who will fight for others, and the hero protective, patient and understanding.

It's a suspenseful ride and I think you'll enjoy it!

Liliana Vela is no fragile flower. She may have been seized and taken against her will, with her family left dead behind her, but she isn’t just going to bemoan the unfairness of it all. She finds a way to break free of her captors and run, but they’re closing in on her. A fortuitous encounter at a truck stop sees her rescued, her captors in custody, and Meric Toledan asking her to trust him and marry him so he can keep her safe. Meric happened to be in the right place at the right time, and he didn’t hesitate to do the right thing. But is this just a marriage of convenience, or can Liliana and Meric work through their pasts to find something more?

Melissa Koslin grabbed my attention with this story from the get-go. The tension started on page one and remained nearly constant, with moments where it ramped up big time. Even when she was doing something seemingly simple like leaving the apartment to get a bite to eat, the tension is still lurking. I felt like I was always on the edge of my seat, just waiting for that other shoe to drop, waiting for the bad guys to jump out and grab Liliana.

Liliana is so much more than just a fragile flower, and it frustrates her that Meric seems almost to shy away from her or shut her out. She doesn’t know, though, that he’s battling his own demons. He fears that if he lets his emotions show, he’ll lose control, like the father he never knew but who hurt his mother so badly. Yet even as he resists his attraction to her, he does his best to keep her safe, to protect her from the wealthy buyer who’s determined not to let the prize – Liliana – escape. When Liliana volunteers to go in and try to help rescue other trafficked women, Meric is beside himself. But I love that she’s willing to put herself back in harm’s way for the good of others, and I love that Meric is willing to let her do it, but still does his best to protect her without blowing her cover. They are both such good, decent, likable characters, I couldn’t help but cheer for them.

Koslin does an excellent job of drawing out the suspense, and the big reveal near the end of the book was quite a surprise to me! I knew something was not quite right with the characters that turned out to be the Big Bad, but I couldn’t put my finger on it before all came to light.

Dangerous Beauty deals human trafficking, and it’s a timely and difficult topic. Here in my part of the world, Interstate 10 is a major trafficking corridor. I’m glad there are people who are trying to make a difference and shut it down. I think Koslin addresses it in a way that is as sensitive as it can be while still painting an accurate picture of the ugliness of the situation.

Content matters to be aware of: there are some violent scenes that are part of the story, because the traffickers are violent men, and sometimes the good guys have to fight fire with fire. I didn’t feel like any of the violence was gratuitous or overly graphic, though. The romance is clean and doesn’t go beyond some steamy kisses. There are mentions of faith, and Liliana trusts in God and asks for His help.

Overall, Dangerous Beauty was a timely and thoroughly engrossing book. The story is well constructed, the good guys are good (if conflicted sometimes), the bad guys are obviously bad (and some worse than others), and good wins the day. It was tough to put down, and I lost sleep over it.

If you want a clean, compelling read with characters you can cheer for, I highly recommend Dangerous Beauty. Five stars for keeping me up past my bedtime.

I will admit the cover of Dangerous Beauty by Melissa Koslin really caught my eye. I also read and enjoyed her first book and was looking forward to this one too. And it did not disappoint!

Dangerous Beauty starts out with Lilliana Vela escaping from the hands of human traffickers. She does not like the term victim and she tries to uphold her strength and resolve to live a better life throughout the book. I admired her and I also admired her for her faith that she held fast to as she struggled to overcome her past and those who hurt her and her family.

Meric Toledan came to Liliana's rescue. He was a bit more difficult to like at first but he grew on me as the book went on. I understand why he needed to keep secrets although it was frustrating in some places early on when he was so reserved and quiet.

There was a lot of action and suspense in Dangerous Beauty. It is a book that will keep you turning pages. I thought Koslin did a good job with the story as a whole. I liked the ending. I liked how faith was woven into the story. I now look forward to whatever book Koslin writes next.

I received a copy of this book from the publisher. All opinions within this review are my own.
