Chronicles of The One Series 3 Books Collection Set by Nora Roberts:
Year One: As this world ends, a new one begins. From number one New York Times bestseller Nora Roberts - an epic, apocalyptic tale of good and evil, love and loss. With one drop of blood, the old world is gone for ever. And in its place, something extraordinary begins... They call it The Doom - a deadly pandemic that starts on a cold New Year's Eve in the Scottish countryside.
Of Blood and Bone: Thirteen years ago, a catastrophic pandemic known as The Doom killed billions. For those left behind, it is a chance to build a new world. But The Doom was no ordinary virus. In some survivors, it awoke strange powers - to heal, to harm, even to predict the future. Fallon Swift has no memories of the old world - but she is destined to shape this new one.
The Rise of Magicks: 'On the shield, one of seven forged in the timeless past to hold back the dark, fell a single drop of blood. So the shield weakened, and the dark, spider-patient, waited as the decades passed, and the wound spread under the grass and ground.'
Nora Roberts is the #1 New York Times bestselling author of more than 200 novels, including Hideaway, Under Currents, Come Sundown, The Awakening, Legacy, and coming in November 2021 -- The Becoming -- the second book in The Dragon Heart Legacy. She is also the author of the futuristic suspense In Death series written under the pen name J.D. Robb. There are more than 500 million copies of her books in print.
I am a big fan of Nora Roberts' books. Whether she is writing as herself or as J.D Robb. As with most of her trilogies, she creates a world that is believable, relevant and at the same time fantastical.
Book 1 sets the tone for a world that is reset back to the dark ages by the infestation of a "virus" of mythical proportions. It starts the story of how people will rise to any challenge and take care of their own. In book 2, we get introduced to the One - who is the light and the professed savior of the world. And how she - Fallon Swift - learns to use her powers for good. By Book 3 the battle for the reclamation of the world from the Dark shifts into high gear. Despite setbacks and losses, good triumphs. The trilogy also focuses on love, family connections as well as friendships that last.
This series is a must-read for fans of Nora Roberts and those we love paranormal suspense that is heavy on romance.
This is one of my all time favorite series. I have loved the Harry Potter series since I read it when I was in middle school and this series reminds me of that in a way. It is definitely more of a mature and grown up version. Fallon is a girl who grows up and knows her whole life that she is The One who is going to bring back peace to the world after the Doom. I love that she is a really strong female character but that you get to see her vulnerable side as well. This series is exactly what I am looking for when I want to escape to a book into a different world.
I devoured Nora Roberts' "Year One" and I'm still reeling from the experience. This epic fantasy novel is a masterclass in storytelling, weaving together threads of hope, horror, and magic to create a gripping narrative that will keep you on the edge of your seat. The premise is chilling - a mysterious sickness that spreads rapidly, causing widespread destruction and chaos - and Roberts executes it with her signature skill and flair. The characters are well-developed and complex, and I found myself invested in their struggles and triumphs as they battled to survive in a world that's been turned upside down. The world-building is also top-notch, with a richly detailed post-apocalyptic landscape that's both terrifying and fascinating. If you're a fan of fantasy, horror, or just great storytelling in general, "Year One" is a must-read. Be prepared to lose sleep, though - you won't want to put it down!
I finished reading "Of Blood and Bone" by Nora Roberts and I'm still reeling from the experience. This book is a masterclass in world-building and storytelling. From the first page, I was drawn into the world of Fallon Swift, a young girl growing up in a post-apocalyptic world where magic and evil forces are at war. Roberts' writing is, as always, superb. She weaves together a complex narrative that's both epic in scope and intimate in character development. The characters are multidimensional and relatable, and I found myself invested in their struggles and triumphs. The world-building is meticulous and immersive, with a richly detailed history and mythology that adds depth to the story. The pacing is well-balanced, with moments of action and suspense expertlyinterspersed with quieter introspective moments. What I love most about this book is its ability to balance light and dark elements. It's a story that's both hopeful and haunting, with a sense of real danger and uncertainty that keeps you on the edge of your seat. Overall, "Of Blood and Bone" is a compelling and addictive read that will appeal to fans of fantasy and adventure. I highly recommend it, and I'm already eagerly awaiting the next installment in the series.
This series blends dystopian survival with magic, prophecy, and a whole lot of heart. It all begins with The Doom—a devastating pandemic that wipes out most of humanity. But out of the destruction comes something new: magick. Some survivors awaken strange new powers, some twist it toward darkness, and some try to cling to the old world by forming dangerous fanatical groups like the Purity Warriors.
At the center of it all is Fallon Swift, the prophesied child destined to become The One—the light to stand against the shadows and help rebuild the world. Across the trilogy (Year One, Of Blood and Bone, The Rise of Magicks), we watch civilization fall, rebuild, and ultimately face the question: can good overcome evil when both magic and humanity are at stake?
💡 Why I love it:
It’s Nora doing dystopian fantasy—and she nails it.
Survival and community are front and center, but so are themes of tolerance, resilience, and hope.
Fallon’s journey is part epic battle, part coming-of-age, and part reminder that even in darkness, there’s always light.
If you loved The Stand, The Hunger Games, or Nora’s Key Trilogy, this is like a fusion of them all—with that signature Roberts world-building that makes you want to pack up and live inside the story (as long as I don’t catch The Doom, thanks very much).
(FYI I tend to only review one book per series, unless I want to change my scoring by 0.50 or more of a star. -- I tend not to read reviews until after I read a book, so I go in with an open mind.)
I thought I posted this months ago. :/
3.25* for the series overall. -- I recall rating book one higher, but for me the plot-line went downhill as I progressed through the trilogy.
First time read the author's work?: No
Will you be reading more?: Yes
Would you recommend?: Maybe
------------ How I rate Stars: 5* = I loved (must read all I can find by the author) 4* = I really enjoyed (got to read all the series and try other books by the author). 3* = I enjoyed (I will continue to read the series) or 3* = Good book just not my thing (I realised I don't like the genre or picked up a kids book to review in error.)
All of the above scores means I would recommend them! - 2* = it was okay (I might give the next book in the series a try, to see if that was better IMHO.) 1* = Disliked
Note: adding these basic 'reviews' after finding out that some people see the stars differently than I do - hoping this clarifies how I feel about the book. :-)
Listened to Book One. Eerie descriptions of what could happen melded with the supernatural. Was 1/3 of the way through Book Two and then it hit me. Mary Sue. The Light characters have no flaws. The Dark characters have no redeeming qualities. So this is basically Star Wars without Han, Luke and Leia's flaws.
I will stick with it and finish the trilogy, I think. But once you realize a book has the Mary Sue, it is DOOMED (pun intended)
The story parallels what is going on in our world at this time. Plague, wars, governments that don't care about their people, bigotry of all races and religions, children sacrificed into sexual slavery. I wept for the world in the book as I weep for our world today hope for a bright ending.
I am a Nora Roberts fan. Particularly of her series. Having said that I was uncertain if I would enjoy this series based on the content (Witches, elves, mermaids, etc). As usual the character development was amazing. I wish that there would be another book!
This story is fantasy yet relatable. The characters grow as you read and become your friends. The Audible version is great too with a wonderful narrator. The pace of the story is perfect and doesn’t drag or feel rushed.
Nora Robert is a great writer and tells interesting stories. This was an awesome read, I found I couldn't put the books down, I had to finish them all!
I’ve been reading a lot of “fantasy” books. This is a little less but does dive into some magic. Started right into book 2. Anxious to see where it goes.
