About the author

Kris Brandt Riske, M.A. (Arizona) is executive director and a professional member of the American Federation of Astrologers, the oldest U.S. astrological organization, founded in 1938. She is also a member of NCGR (National Council for Geocosmic Research) and served on its board of directors.

Riske has been a speaker at various astrological conferences and has written for several astrological publications. She currently writes for Llewellyn’s Sun Sign Book, Llewellyn’s Moon Sign Book, and American Media. Riske is also the author of Llewellyn's Complete Book of Astrology, Mapping Your Future, Mapping Your Money, and co-author of Mapping Your Travels & Relocation.

She is particularly interested in astrometeorology (astrological weather forecasting) and is the author of Astrometeorology: Planetary Power in Weather Forecasting and the annual weather forecast published in Llewellyn’s Moon Sign Book.

This book will at first appear lame, or perhaps overwhelming, until you use it correctly. It is not a book to read cover to cover, ever!

How to use it correctly: Obtain your own chart from an astrology website online (or otherwise). Use the book as a full reference guide to interpreting your chart. You will find that it has all the resources for you to do so. It's really quite comprehensive. Interpret your chart step-by-step, using the text. Go planet-by-planet, house-by-house, aspect-by-aspect. Along the way, have a journal handy, and with each new piece of information write down your thoughts in the journal. How is this interpretation "me," and how might it not be? Am I hiding something? Am I not acknowledging a part of myself consciously?

Let the book be one big Journaling Prompt, and you will experience astrology first-hand. Merely thumb through it at random, trying to get something out of it, and it will be utterly disappointing. It will sit on your bookshelf for eternity, gathering useless dust, never to be touched again.

Don't acquire it without intent to use it specifically!

I think this book covers all the basics nicely, although it'd be nice to have some background on why planets, signs, and houses represent what they represent. I was also reading The Twelve Houses by Howard Sasportas, which was super helpful in completing all the information. I wasn't interested in Mythology before, but now that's a new hyperfixation, lol

This is a popular book for new astrology students. For me, it gets a little too specific, maybe, in describing the signs. It claims you know "a Taurus because their house is filled with beautiful things." Well, maybe. But there are Taurus people who are broke. I know a couple. They don't have beautiful things. (I know. Aspects.) But, sure, you can learn enough from this to get you started. Learning astrology is on-going. Even the professionals say they are always learning something new. This book all all right. It's a start.

Great book. Pretty concise and usefull.
The author teaches a lot about your birth chart. I've learn a lot.

My only complain is about some complex topics that are discussed very briefly, so it got really hard to really understand them.
Another thing is about the examples. The author used many examples about USA celebrities, which most of them are not known outsise the USA.

I have completed this book however this is more of a manual that get's opened every morning while reviewing both my Natal and current chart. I'm finding this book to be a great resource however this is my first Astrology purchase. No regrets, as I am finding it quite useful. This is a book that I will "Study" up on a regular. Nice work.

This book is extremely educational and goes fairly deep into the details of astrology, zodiac signs, the different planets, different cusps, how each sign interacts with each planet etc. I would recommend this book to someone who really wants to dive deep into astrology and possibly become an astrologer themselves. I would rate this book a 4.5/5.
