The Lovesick Series #2

Lovesick Titans

Rate this book
Not even a Titan can always stand up to a God.

Malcom Cho is in over his head, wrapped up in a love affair with his superhero nemesis, Zeus, who most people in Olympus City only know as detective Danny Grant.

Lovesick Titans begins where Lovesick Gods left off, after a heist gone wrong that ended with a museum guard dead and Mal and Danny beaten and exhausted from their fight with the new threat in town, Cassidy Ludgate—Hades.

Unaware that Ludgate’s true motivation is revenge for the death of his father at Zeus’s hands, Mal wants only to keep Danny close, while Danny races to solve the cases surrounding Ludgate to stop him from whatever he has planned for them next.

What Mal doesn’t know is that Danny didn’t pursue him with the purest of intentions but sought to break his heart in retaliation for not being there when he needed him in the fight against Thanatos. Even though Danny no longer seeks that end, the lies between them loom like a shadow about to descend upon them both.

And Hades has only begun to toy with them…

After reading the previous book, I was super excited to find out how it would all end. I was especially curious to see how everything between Mal and Danny would play out. Unfortunately, though, I was kind of disappointed with it all.

The whole vibe was just so gloomy and angsty, it was almost a bit unpleasant. I mean, Danny was seriously in such a low place mentally, it often felt like the book was drowning in it.

Also, I understand of course why Mal felt so utterly betrayed, but I have to admit I felt frustrated with how long it took him to forgive Danny.
I definitely preferred their dynamic in the first book. They were obviously still very cute, but just.. not as interesting as before.

The general plot felt a little dragged out as well. It wasn’t anything new from what we saw in the previous book, and it became slightly repetitive.
I also have to mention that I just don’t quite understand why, during this entire series, it’s been such a big deal that Danny killed Thanatos? Like, hellooo, Thanatos killed so many people: it’s really not like I’m mourning the guy, and neither should anyone else. Some people deserve to die.

2nd Read Update:
It has been a while since I have been able to get out of my head, past my real life stress and health problems, and fully sink into a book. But I sunk into this one, to the point that I sometimes took a break from everything else just to sit and read, not multitasking, not having trouble focusing, just lost in the book. Which is not to say I haven't read / listened to other great books, but there's just something about this story, this writing, these characters. Anyway, my original review is solid, I feel pretty much the same!

Original Review:
*I received an ecopy of this book from the author. This has not influenced my review.*

The first book in this series surprised me with how much I loved it simply because I don't normally care for books about superheroes. But I quickly become invested in the characters and their relationship, and this continuation, which picked up right where the previous book left off, was just as wonderful. Now I'm kind of sad that this duology is over because I've grown so fond of these characters!

Look, I will admit this book had a few things I could complain about. There were things that pushed my suspension of disbelief, like some technology they had that made no sense. There were moments when the timing of things was just too perfect to be realistic. The characters could be rather dramatic with how they acted/reacted/drew things out.

But the thing is? I didn't really care because, my gosh, it made for SO MUCH ANGST. IT WAS A COMPLETE ANGST-FEST. I LOVED IT. Seriously, I love when the relationship problems couples have to overcome come from within the relationship, from the characters themselves. It feeds my need for angst and makes it that much sweeter when the characters finally do start working together to overcome problems from outside the relationship.

And that relationship, as I said, it was not without its struggles and messed up moments, but these characters fought for each other. They cared about each other. They talked to and supported each other. And I could really feel the connection between them. They were just so beautiful together.

There was also just so much emotion in general. It was the kind of emotion that I could feel but that didn't actually bring me down. I just really wanted to give the characters hugs and make things right for them because I felt so bad for them.

Speaking of which, I felt especially bad for Danny, who was still struggling so much with depression and even suicidal thoughts. This story had a well-written, heart-tugging portrayal of depression, but also a great portrayal of the best, most fiercely supportive friends and family a person could have.

As for everything else... The writing itself was great and pulled me in. The characters were all lovable (except the antagonist, for obvious reasons). The plot was a good balance of high emotion moments, quiet downtime, and superpower-filled action.

Overall, this book took everything that had been building up in the first book, made it all explode in the characters' faces, but then wrapped everything up in a satisfying way and left me with a warm, happy feeling. This was a story of mental illness, superpowers, friends, family, and love, and I'm really glad I read it!

Explosions and implosions it all comes to a head in this book. A lot of events are predictable and some of the technology is eyebrow raising but hey we're talking a world where superpowers exist, so why not!

It's an angst fest at times. Relationship troubles, villainous manipulations and serious end it all depression. But all the angst is from the characters themselves, it's their mental state driving it. People can be petty and nasty when hurt, and can still love and care despite themselves. And love can win.

Danny and Mal are a great couple. Hero and Villain where the villain is very much a local hero and the Hero is feeling the dark. They're both damaged, have their doubts and bring out the best, and worst, of each other.
Their support teams are terrific, family and friends who band together and do their very best. Side characters with enough colour to matter and mean something however little on page. Danny's father John gives the very best 'shovel talk' what a great man.

The story deals with depression for which there's no magic cure. There's a world of support, there's realisations, there's positivity; but no cure. By the end the character is in a good place, but those feelings don't disappear completely which is what makes their story so real. A world of superpowers with very real characters at it's core.

This quote alone earns the book all the stars:
“You don’t have to be okay, Danny,” Mal said, repeating a promise from days, weeks earlier. “Just be here. With me. Be you. And we’ll get through this, whatever comes next"

People often take the 'you'll get over it' 'it gets better' stance, but how wonderful that is; not having to be happy and perfect, being ok as you are. Life isn't perfect and it's ok to get lost, but you're not alone.

Noticed a few little touches along the way, nod to a superhero and some naming that made me wonder if the author has dabbled in fanfic. The only thing I don't like are the covers, the covers sell this series short.

There's excitement, tension and so many feelz. This book is a direct continuation of the previous and they're basically one story not to be read separately, that doesn't even bug me! I loved the characters and would be happy for another visit to this world. Will definitely be checking out the author's other stories.

Recommend these, but do warn they deal heavily with depression.

I very nearly quit this book when I was only about 15% in. In my review of the first book I expressed concern at the childish revenge Danny wanted to take on Mal. The idea that Danny is the worst of the worst because he wanted to make Mal love him, only to break his heart, is so ridiculous. I couldn’t handle it. By 15% into Lovesick Titans I thought I knew where it was going, and I was very very unhappy. The only reason I didn’t stop reading, shame on me, was because I’d already quit the two previous books. So, I pushed through my initial feelings of frustration and let Amanda Meuwissen take me on a ride.

The thing is, I wasn’t entirely wrong in what I thought would happen. It was ridiculous. Yet, I loved Danny and Mal’s relationship so much that by the end of the book I didn’t even care. I anticipated their every interaction, both positive and negative, and I rooted for them throughout the entire book. I thought the differences in Mal and Danny, the ways in which their good and bad balanced each other, made for a memorable romance. In both Lovesick Gods, and Lovesick Titans, they were the heart of the story, no matter how a reader feels about each specific twist in the plot.

It isn’t only about Danny and Mal though. They both had family, and superhero/villain teams which made up the secondary characters. I found them all nearly as interesting as our hero and antihero. In fact, I also loved how the villain teams and the hero teams weren’t your quintessential villains and heroes. Heroes can be dark, and villains can be good, and together they can be an unstoppable force!

This duology wasn’t perfect, though each readers idea of perfection is different so who am I anyway? It did hook me, in both installments, and I’d love to see more from this Lovesick world. I’m not sure that’s happening, so until I hear for sure I’ll just imagine a future where Mal and Danny are working together, maybe with a little surrogate/adopted Elemental daughter they adore.

I’m really glad I read this!! The main characters are great and well detailed, they have good chemistry and even the supporting characters are fun to read. I think my favorite part of this book is the action. There were several moments where I just wasn’t able to put this book down and had to keep reading.

However comma nothing is perfect and my biggest issue with this book is that a lot of it is SUPER drawn out. from the plot line, to the antagonist, to the romantic relationship, it just kept going and going. It felt like I was being told the same information over and over again but worded differently each time. At some points I would get so frustrated and skip a couple of pages only to find out that the characters were STILL talking about the same shit. As the kids say, shit or get off the pot.

Other than that, this was an incredibly fun read and I’m hoping the story continues at some point.

I liked this story! Ah, all I wanted is for these characters to be happy 😭 I loved how they fought to get to who they are at the end of the book, they fought not only physical fights, but everything they overcome! I loved it, I would like to read more about them and all the other characters!

Lovesick Titans is the second instalment of the Lovesick series and picks up right where Lovesick Gods left off. Still reeling from their confrontation with new supervillain Cassidy Ludgate – Hades – Danny and Mal soon find their new relationship under strain. Mal, having accepted that his feelings for Danny go way beyond that of a casual fling, wants to protect him, not only from Hades but also his own demons. However Mal is unaware that Danny is struggling with just more than the guilt and pain brought about by his final confrontation with Thanatos. Their entire relationship was built on a lie and Danny’s desire for revenge. Desperately wanting to tell the truth and also declare his love for Mal, Danny prepares to come clean but Mal learns of his deception before the hero can tell him himself. Delighted at the prospect of Zeus and Prometheus fighting each other rather than him, Hades seeks to take advantage of the situation as he steps up his plan for revenge.

I enjoyed the final part of the series just as much as the first novel. The fallout from Danny’s lies hit quite early on and as Danny struggles to try and make things right, Mal just wants to lash out and hurt him as he has been hurt. The families and friends from both sides quickly rally round, not only to offer support but to help in the coming battle against Hades.

As with the first novel this one tackles the issues of anxiety, depression and suicidal thoughts and does so in a very realistic manner which also draws great sympathy to what the characters are going through.

There is plenty of action throughout. The story is just as fast-paced and well-crafted as the first. The supporting characters fully come into their own as the two ‘sides’ merge and each one has something important to offer so none of them truly feel like merely ‘support’. Danny and Mal’s attempts to rebuild their relationship shows more tender moments and just how much they truly care for each other; emotions that you can really feel throughout the novel, even when they are fighting against each other.

The final battle against Hades is excellent and keeps you guessing right up the last second. I loved this series so much and was sad when I read the last page. Part of me does hope for a continuation so that we can see how Danny and Mal’s relationship develops further in the future, however it does end perfectly as it is.

This is a brilliant series and I cannot recommend it enough.

“Only you, Sparky, could make the impossible feel easy.”
“What’s impossible? Ludgate or this? Because loving you was so easy, it ambushed me. Pretty typical coming from a thief.”

All the secrets from the previous book are now in the open, making this installment a little bit more dramatic. And the levels of angst were really intense. I loved the way the problems between the MCs were handled. The fact that this series only has two books is perfect, I think that was the right length to solve all their problems. Though I wouldn’t be mad if there is some novella in the future featuring the Titans.

description

Not everything was perfect between Mal and Danny in the last book, but now there are issues that can really put an end to their relationship. The way they dealt with them could be questionable sometimes but in the end it did feel realistic, for example the way Mal reacted. I’m not an expert but I liked the way Danny’s mental health was portrayed. It gave both installments a more humane approach despite the fact that we are dealing with heroes and villains in a comic kind of way. I’m glad that Ludgate, with his mirror world, got what he deserved.

description

This series was a great approach to this trope. Mixing everyday problems with supernatural aspects. You’d end up missing mostly all the characters.

Don't @ me. I loved this book, and you can't tell me otherwise. Were there plot holes, yes, but let me love the fact that this book focused more on depression and getting through just the day and using the setting and issues to talk about that.

it's paining me to only give 3 stars to Lovesick Titans. i'm a big big fan of the first one but there wasn't enough romaaaaance in this one for me — and i'm a sucker for romance.

however, the plot is really good and the characters are just so likeable!

When I first read the blurb, I didn't think I would enjoy this book more than book one, so I waited to read it. And wow, did I make a mistake! I adored this book even more than the first, which is impressive since Lovesick Gods also has a five-star rating for me. In the midst of superhero action, this book has a surprising breadth and depth that truly bring this story to life. Mal and Danny are at their absolute best, well-rounded and real, still dealing with inner demons that won't miraculously go away, which I also adore.

Knowing what I know now about this book, would I still read it if I went back in time?
Definitely!!!

See below for the four criteria I use to decide whether and when to read a book

CHARACTERS: Mal and Danny have their fair share of angst and relationship woes, but watching the two of them overcome these issues, both alone and as a team, is both frustrating and so fulfilling. Each of them hurts and the author doesn't immediately solve the issue, but lets the characters feel their feelings, which in turn lets us feel them as well, which is wonderful. Danny's struggles with depression are exacerbated by the situation with Ludgate, but his journey towards healing of some sort is a cathartic joy to read. Even Mal's own struggles with letting people in and believing that he's worthy of love is heartwrenching but also beautiful to read. For being superheroes, they're also wonderfully realistic, which I love. And the cast of characters only gets better, as more and more of them are given screentime with Danny and Mal. I couldn't have asked for more.

PLOT: Picking up right where the previous book finishes, Danny and Mal are still attempting to find Ludgate and bring him to justice, while Ludgate focuses on driving a wedge between our two heroes. Danny and Mal are forced to battle their own inner demons in order to come back stronger and come back together. Ultimately it takes the whole team to succeed in this hero's journey, with excellent stakes and a perfect balance of action and space to breathe with the characters and their internal worlds.

EMOTIONAL INTENSITY: There is no good/bad here. Sometimes I just want a low-investment entertainment read whereas other times a high-stakes 'I need a therapist to recover' is what I need.

2/5:low. To me I found it thoroughly entertaining but please be advised that depression is a theme that comes up a lot, in case that is triggering for anyone.

CATHARTIC FULFILLMENT: Is the emotional journey worth it? Do I finish this book feeling that I've crested the wave of the climactic moment and everything has been settled, leaving me settled and fulfilled?

99%. I adored the denouement and immediate aftermath, I felt that the battle was hard won with actual stakes involved. However I will also say that the final lines felt a little more cut off than a true ending, as though the author is keeping this open ended enough for a possible third book. But overall I am beyond content and wish there were more from this incredible world!

~Review of first book pasted to bottom of this review~

*Mild/Moderate angst (NOT caused by petty arguments and terrible communication skills so kudos to the author for this)
*Hurt/comfort
*Revenge/redemption
*Nemeses to lovers
*Depression (agitated response)
*Medium heat
*Third person POV, multiple characters
*Hero vs Villain action

Content warning: suicidal ideations but very low key (thoughts not actions- short duration within story).

My tender heart couldn't handle this book (I am a low angst reader so feelings are not my favorite thing 🫣) . I went from dreading Danny's decision to come clean to sobbing my way through half of this book. How could my heart break for BOTH men? Why wasn't I angry and spiteful towards Danny for his terrible deception? How could I cry for both men when one of them was clearly at fault, here?

Truth: Danny made a stupid decision, yes, but he recognized his mistake and decided to own up to it. That takes a lot of guts. Especially knowing it might lose him the best thing that's ever happened to him. Danny is a human being under that super suit, just like Mal. Opening himself up to love and affection wasn't in his original plan; but neither was coming clean. Danny's ability to continually put others first, regardless of his own pain and safety and overall well being had me floored. He knew he'd be hurting both himself and Mal with his honesty but he also knew it would hurt more if he let the deception linger. For this, I ached for both men. Danny didn't just break Mal's heart with his honesty, he broke his own, too. (And mine, probably yours also).

Mal's reaction is completely understandable. How could it be anything else? He was a safe space for Danny and believed he had found a safe space for himself as well. After guarding his heart for 37 long years he finally lets someone in and **ugh** pure devastation. So of course he goes for revenge. And I wouldn't have been happy otherwise. I wanted Danny to redeem himself, to show Mal he was truly sorry and would go to the ends of the universe for Mal. I wanted Mal to see Danny's pain and understand, "Hey! Danny hurt you both with his thoughtless plan!" I wanted the trust that was broken to be patched back together strip by strip so Mal and Danny could move forward without the ever present background noise of "fool me once..." I needed Mal to get his revenge just as badly as I needed Danny to get his redemption. I needed the forgiveness to be honest and true. Mal made Danny work for it and for that I am thankful.

Also, let's talk about how much the plot with Hades picks up in this book. Book one ended with some craziness as Hades finally made himself known as a true contender in this Hero vs Villain fight and this book just continues to build on that even as our MCs struggle with their own personal battles. It's amazing how well the storyline is interwoven so we're invested in not just a love story but also the fight between Hades and our MCs. Plus, the found family vibe really thrives in this book. Danny has his team, Mal has his; can they all work together to save Olympus from Hades or will they let emotions and past roles interfere when it's time to face Hades? I loved the realness of these people. They weren't just side characters for the sake of taking up space or randomly places dialogue- they're important! Hades is a tricky villain and really tests our characters strengths and weaknesses. He is absolutely evil in a remarkable and surprising way. There is so much action and the curve balls are insane. I'll admit that I forgot that this story was about superheroes during the first book but this plot brought it all back into focus and it was SPECTACULAR. I couldn't stop reading this book once I started so be prepared to lose sleep over this. 5/5 definitely recommend.

~~~~~~ Lovesick Gods, Book 1 review ~~~
It’s taken me a month to figure out how to write a review that isn’t in all caps and emojis. I had to read this duet twice in order to make my brain form actual words. Even now, I am struggling! I loved absolutely everything about this story. The characters, the plot, the writing, the emotions…
This first book is all the beautiful bits- the seduction, the getting to know one another, the talking and comfort offered by someone who understands you better than anyone else, the emotions that come with learning to love yourself. It's the sweet slow build of love after falling into bed with no intentions of catching feelings. It's finding out your enemy is nothing like you expected. It's learning to trust again when you feel like trust is impossible. It's EVERYTHING.
Danny is a hero but he's also a man. He has so much stress and anger-- so many people count on him in costume and out of it. He feels like he doesn't deserve to feel bitter about it and it's making him quick to lash out. He doesn't have the type of depression that keeps one in bed all day; his depression allows him to remain functional but it's also demonstrated by intense feelings of agitation and doubt. He needs a release and revenge. He needs Mal. Only... It's true. He does need Mal. So, so much.
Mal understands Danny. Mal offers attention that isn't contingent on Danny being anything other than himself. Mal is sweet and smart and kind. Most of all, Mal is caring. He doesn't ask Danny to share his feelings or save the world; he doesn't put Danny in a position where Danny feel guilty for not being stronger. Mal is thoughtful and compassionate, a wonderful man who is so much more than Danny originally thought.
For everyone in search of that “make him regret it” storyline, this is the book for you. We go into this duet knowing what Danny intends to do but somehow it manages to be an absolute gut punch when Danny’s plan actually reaches its peak (in book 2). But here’s the kicker- Danny is AMAZING. Every time he rationalized something, I couldn’t even feel mad. I understood Danny. I hurt for Danny. I cried for Danny. At the same time, Mal is epic boyfriend material. The “angst” (again, book 2) doesn’t come from these two having ridiculous miscommunications and petty arguments. It comes from falling in love and realizing honesty is the best option. Which is a disaster waiting to happen because ignorance is definitely bliss in this situation.
There was no competition over who’d had it tougher, just different pain handled differently.
This book left me in awe, it deserves more than 5 stars.
Compared to the previous book, this one has a lot more action. I think it would be really awesome if this series was made into a movie. The book focused on the relationship between Mal and Danny, but it still built an excellent superhero/supervillain plot. The fight between Danny, Mal, Dom and Hades was described in great detail, making me feel like everything was happening right in front of my eyes. Sometimes I feel like something hadn't been explained well enough, as if there were some holes in the story. But the more I read, the clearer it all became and I just wanted to applaud Amanda Meuwissen for her storytelling.
This whole series is not only about love, trust and vengeance, but it also shows the weakness in each person, no matter how transcendent that person is. Mal was cold and stoic, but inside he was insecure and scared. Danny always showed his confidence, but he was filled with negative emotions and guilt. His mental issues made things even worse. I loved the tension between Mal and Danny when Mal found out about Danny's plan. However, Mal's way of revenge was beyond my expectations. I didn't expect him to use such a method to bring Danny down. Everything in Danny's life was messed up at once. I found him pitiful as he had to deal with Mal's wrath, Hades' devious plan, and his mental breakdown. In Danny's shoes, I wouldn't stop thinking about ending my life, just like he did. I'm glad everything ended well, Danny and Mal both forgave themselves and found love, Danny’s family kept getting bigger and bigger with his friends and the Titans.
Oh, I almost forgot to mention my favorite character. Priestly!! Even though he was just a supporting character, I like his cleverness and cuteness. I really wish there was a short story revolving around him.
Thank you for the read, I voluntarily give this book an honest review.
 There is so much going on with these characters,after all Mal isn't just the common crime boss Prometheus that Danny had believed, he has a sweeter shy side that only a few get to see that, Just as Danny isn't just the cop by day and Zeus by night as he takes on more responsibly to his home town even to the point of his own self control. Book one was just a the taste that hooked you in to their story as Mal and Danny come across a mutual agreement only to fall in to a trap that neither saw coming.  Book two has a more edge of your seat with the struggles and violence that Olympus city is brewing.
 Everything felt like it was closing in on Danny, as his control is slipping, IA investigation and now a new enemy, that could be any and everywhere? Waiting on Hades to make his next move, With so much to loss. What started as just revenge fuelled lust was leading to more, ending what he has with Mal maybe just what Hades needs to push to drive Danny to the brink. Only once Mal learns the real motive behind Danny's sudden interest, will Mal still fight to keep the hero safe!
I'm very surprised to read some people are disappointed with the realism, the darkness, the genuineness, the angst and the drama! I mean, gosh darn. What is a book without these things??
I've never re-read a book series, and I've read these plenty. The genuine connection between characters is all in- when they're together and you know exactly what the characters are feeling and thinking while they interact like you're really IN their world- part of the group while a terrifying bad guy is trying to kill you and your friends- It's addicting.
The love, angst, and pain I feel for the characters, and with the characters, is everything. It's not a book I found like I was waiting for something to happen. I just couldn't put it down. Something was always happening. I really, genuinely doubt you won't absolutely love this series as much as I do.
Favorite books on the shelf, hands down.
This is book 2 in a series, so make sure you’ve read book 1. Here, Danny and Mal have to contend with a dangerous supervillain and the potential fallout from Mal discovering Danny’s initial motivations for pursuing a relationship with him (complicated, ill-advised, and not his motivations any more). There’s plenty of action and plenty of emotion, and I liked riding the line between feeling fully immersed in the characters’ feelings and being overwhelmed by them — much like the characters themselves, I suspect. I also loved the care and detail with which the supporting cast are drawn, and how Danny’s depression is portrayed with thought and nuance— love doesn’t magically “fix” him, but having a relationship where he’s seen and supported is significant, and that felt very realistic. The world building continues to be awesome, and I’d happily read more stories set in Olympic City.
This book was so good. The entire book was action packed and I didn't want to put it down. The first approx 50% was just a huge angst fest between Danny and Mal. Mal took some actions that were so hurtful to Danny. I understand why he did it but I just wish he hadn't. Danny was just so downbeaten the first half of this book. Everything was going wrong in his life and he had almost given up. Once he and Mal got to a good place, this book became even more action packed. Both Danny and Mal's teams were in a race to help fight Hades/Ludgate. Hades powers were almost insurmountable. Thank goodness Danny and Mal had great teams to help them. The ending of the book was pretty satisfying. I don't know if there are going to be more books but I will definitely be interested in reading them.
My heart ached for Mal and Danny. Danny's lies are revealed and Mal decides to destroy him. It's their families, birth and found, that help them heal. And help them find their way back to each other. Which is not something that super villain, Hades, wants.
The buildup to their confrontation with Hades is a steady, exciting climb. And when it came, I was on the edge of my seat. Very well written. Suspenseful. And again, great secondary characters.
it's paining me to only give 3 stars to Lovesick Titans. i'm a big big fan of the first one but there wasn't enough romaaaaance in this one for me — and i'm a sucker for romance.
however, the plot is really good and the characters are just so likeable!
A lighting struck read!
Not even a Titan can always stand up to a God...
An electrifying sequel and ending full of angst and darkness, ice and lighting. A deserving ending of our heroes.
I'm so glad I was able to read these books because there were a fresh new perspective in whole superhero storyline.
Full of superheroes, supervillains, powers, death, mystery, family, friends, struggles, mental health issues, darkness and romance.
Perfect for readers of fantasy romances.
This one was more plot forward which I appreciated.
I liked that the romantic conflict was wrapped up nicely for the reader about half way through, but the plot didn't just drop off like they are sometimes wont to do.
This book had so much going on, and so much riding on Danny and Mal working together that the tenuous cease fire they agreed to really got tested. Lots of pining and angst and sexy kisses to be found in this novel.
I loved that the bad guy was just a fuckin crazy dude. It really upped the stakes as far as the conflict went and I was so satisfied with the ending. loved that this was a duet and not a series. It was the perfect amount of books and pages and I wasn't left needing or wanting more. Thoroughly enjoyed.
I really wanted to like this book 😭 but its just angst and drama which is not my kinda thing at all. I hoped the book would get better in the second half but it didn't. It even got boring to a point where I skipped pages. Such a disappointment after I really liked the first book.
I liked this one better than the first but was still a bit disappointed. There is a lot of 'miscommunication' in this series; which I just find annoying. But it really is a good story overall.
Lovesick Titans by Amanda Meuwissen is the second book in the Lovesick duology.
I'm mad at myself for waiting so long to read the rest of this duet. I was distracted by ARCs and new releases, so I kept putting off reading the sequel to Lovesick Gods, which I loved. Lovesick Titans was the perfect conclusion to Mal and Danny's story. I couldn't put the book down from the first page to the last.
Lovesick Titans was much more angsty with Danny getting more and more into a dark place. It was really hard to see him like that. Danny and Mal's relationship was also put to the test and again it was heartbreaking to witness this after all the progress they had made together in the first book.
The stakes were especially high in Lovesick Titans and every moment of this book was filled with action scenes and emotional climaxes. It was a roller coaster ride that kept me on the edge of my seat.
This novel was also less steamy than the first one. Usually I look for books that have more steam in them and in all honesty, I didn't miss it at all in Lovesick Titans. The characters and the world of this duet was fascinating, captivating and I was frankly more concerned about their fate and how they would resolve the situation with Hades, the villain of the story. Even though there were less sex scenes, the ones that were present in the book were more meaningful and deeper because of the bond between Mal and Danny that was now stronger.
I really hope that more readers will take the time to discover this duology which is wonderfully written and in which the world building is exceptional. This is the superhero/supervillain romance that you absolutely must read.
