Everyone knows magic isn’t real. Alien invaders? Ha! Yet, unless one skeptic changes her mind, Earth and her life will meet a swift end.

Disillusioned with her military career, Red Hernandez crawled back to civilian life as a second tier security lead for an engineering marvel meant to cram more people into the tiny island of Manhattan. She expected her biggest struggles to be integrating back into a society where social media and closet space reigned supreme. But when mysterious forces destroy a building similar to the one she’s chartered to protect, in an implosive blast never before seen, all notions of a cushy retirement job go up in smoke.

With lives on the line, but big money pushing to continue construction, Red finds the steely determination that she believed lost in the desert of her past. She unravels the mystery of the destructive tech, discovering it to be not just alien, but magical, and re-evaluates everything she believed to be true.

Can one woman stop magic-wielding invaders from destroying the world, or will disbelief be her undoing?

La Penbrook Palencia aka The Palace is a mega residential complex under construction, it is a town in itself with all the facilities. When Red joined as the second in command to the security, little did she expect an attack from extraterrestrial creatures called The Infected.

I liked how the book started, from the middle of the events, with the day just after the attack. As the story unfolded, the fantasy elements of the story came to the fore. Not only was the palace attacked by The Infected but there were three fantasy creatures who were actually trying to stop The Infected or The Blighted - A troll, A dwarf and an elf.

The book is a perfect mix of sci - fi and fantasy. I liked the fight scenes and the training scenes when Red and Bear trained with the trio. Red's past at the army establishes her as a strong and brave character which she keeps demonstrating during the action scenes when she takes on The Infected.

I liked the camaraderie that built up between Red and the trio, I also admire Red's friendship with her friends- Scan, Rocks and Bear. The book is a page turner and very gripping and interesting.

The only thing I didn't like was multiple pov, generally I like knowing the story from the perspective of different characters, it helps in better understanding and indulgence but I felt like in this book having multiple pov just broke the coherence and the flow, I just wanted to stick with the story from Red's pov.

Overall, it's an excellent book which kept me hooked and thoroughly entertained me with all the action, fantasy and a little bit of science fiction.

Thank you so much to By the Book VBP tours for having me on the Instagram tour for The Guardian of the Palace!  This is a fast paced, urban fantasy + invasion story mash-up that surprisingly works really well.  I would recommend to contemporary fantasy fans!

Bookish Quick Facts:

Title: The Guardian of the Palace

Series: The Guardian League, #1

Author: Steven J. Morris

Publisher & Release: Indie, 01/22/21

Length: 358 pg

Rate & Recommend: 🌟🌟🌟🌟✨ for fans of the genres!

The Plot & Story: So the book actually doesn't list a synopsis, and I am going to give you the key points really quick.  There is a huge four-block-wide building going up in NYC called The Palace, and Garnet "Red" Hernandez is hired on as a security head as construction continues.  She is ex military special ops, and her team of three friends are the other main human characters of the story.  Red sees something strange in the lower levels of The Palace, and before we know it there is a two fronted alien invasion going on.  The fun part is finding out why, how, and who exactly these invaders are.  To what lengths will the Guardians go to save Earth?

The prologue was incredibly gripping, and the book never let me go until the end...and I'm glad that book two is coming out soon.

The Characters: We also see a bit of Red's military career to show where she and the rest of the characters came from, how they bonded, and what kind of people they are.  Red is a strong person who believes in rights, humanity, and the power of a strong team.  Rocks, Bear, and Scan are the rest of her group and I liked them too. The banter is interesting, they seem like real people, and extended amounts of good dialogue can be hard to find these days.  The chapters tend to stay pretty short and are mainly told from Red's point of view.

I REALLY like the non-human characters.  Let's just say there is an Elf, a troll, and a dwarf, and they are a little bit hilarious in their own ways.

The World Building: One of my favorite aspects was how Morris was able to blend the non-human and fantasy aspects into the modern day setting, giving plausible explanations for non-fantasy readers to follow fairly easily.   He gives enough info for the Infected and the other aliens that the explanations make sense, without doing any huge info dumps.

Misc: The place where I docked half a star was that when the other characters start having point of view chapters, I didn't think their voices sounded distinct enough.  Not so much Agent Smith, but Rocks and Scan sounded very similar, and Grundle sounded extremely human in his thought processes.

I like how towards the end, the characters for the next book are set up and introduced more. Morris presented a clear path going forward, with a bit of a cliffhanger to keep me wanting to see the next book.

Thankfully, book two, Stars in the Sand, is coming out soon! I will be touring that book on June 2nd so keep an eye out for the review!

-Got this book in exchange for an honest review By The Book VBP-

This book was amazing it had a bit of a slower start but I still got really into it this book I loved everything about it. The characters were so great I really liked all of them especially Red and those who surround her she was such a down to earth interesting character that was different than a lot of female main characters that I have read about. I also loved the fantasy characters that appeared in a modern world an interesting Troll Grundle as well as an Elf Galad who was so well written and interesting to read about as well as Harry the Dwarf there was never a dull or too underdeveloped character to read about. I really liked the plot it started with a attack and then back tracked to tell what happened this is one of those save the world types of stories and it so very well told there was never anything I did not like about the story I am looking forward to that next book for sure. I liked how the fantasy characters were put into the story with monsters that destroy and take over worlds this made for a unique at least for me story that I highly enjoyed.

The story revolves around Red who is a strong women with questionable past of military career. She is now serving as the security officer for a construction office, the palace. Red finds somethings in the building clumsy and unacceptable. There are some people who are trying to hurt earth or should I say aliens. Yes, this book is fantasy fiction where some unknown powers comes to attack earth.

Red finds this and along with her old group she and her 3 friends come together to stand against these strange powers. Do you think she'll be able to defeat them? Does she also have any power?
To know more read this entertainment package and fun-filled book.

Though I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who is interested in sci-fi as I haven't read such an interesting plot ever. Well-pened down with great elaboration of every character, this book is a real page turner. I really like Red's character and her spirit is so amazing.

I loved writing this series. I wrote it as four books. Book 3 is on track for a December 2021 release. I've started on a prequel and have notes on a sequel.

Some of the reviewers are just brilliant, and I often find I like their descriptions better than my own, so I encourage you to go read their reviews.

I'm updating pictures for Book 1 as I prep for Book 3 release. Below is a sample. Fun stuff.

Book : The Guardian of the Palace
Author : Steven J. Morris

The Guardian of the Palace written by Steven J. Morris is a fantasy/sci-fi novel. All the characters are well developed. The plot is designed perfectly. Kudos to the author, the way he planned everything and the flashbacks were placed perfectly without creating any confusion for the readers.

This is a fantasy novel but there is a lot of comedy which I was not expecting at all, and it made me laugh out loud and interesting to read.

The main protagonist, Red Hernandez, and her team are all very likable and easy to connect with. But I personally liked the non-human characters- Elf, Troll and Dwarf, they are entertaining and humorous in their own way.

The book is fast paced. The plot is gripping and it will keep you hooked till the end. Another part is coming soon, and I'm eagerly waiting for it. Overall, I enjoyed reading this book.

Red, Scan, Bear and Rocks are attempting to adjust to civilian life after leaving the military behind. While working security detail for a local construction site, Red witnesses ... well she isn't sure exactly ... but she knows they weren't human or any kind of animal she's ever seen.

It soon becomes clear to her and her friends that something otherworldly is trying to destroy Earth. It also becomes clear there are creatures attempting to save it. Banding together, can they stop the threat in time to save the world?

You know those books you read, where you lose track of time, where you blink and it's hours later? That's this book. The geeky humor throughout this one had me tickled and laughing ... a lot. Grundle is hands down my favorite with Red coming in right behind because...well badass female...who doesn't enjoy that?

I love that this is set in a real world. I love that this is a fantasy meets skeptics. It's Sci-Fi. It's magic. It's good writing and fun characters. It's plain awesome and everything I enjoy!

I sincerely appreciate the publisher and By the Book Virtual Book Promoters for bringing me in on this fun-filled series. Good thing the 2nd one comes out soon because that ending!!! All opinions expressed herein are mine and mine alone.

The Guardian of the Palace by Steven J Morris was a thrilling blend of fairy tale creatures, pop culture references, and bad a military characters who scare the crap out of me, AND I LOVED IT!

4.5/5 stars

We are introduced to Red who is no longer is special services, and is now working a security at a massive housing for a few dozen billion dollar companies. Things take a twist when a building very similar to the Palace is taken down in a way they can’t seem to understand.

Let’s start with the plot of this book. It’s a very promising start to a new 4-5 book series that leaves you hanging off the edge of your seating wanting the next book immediately. I’m not there yet, but that ending has me shook! Back to the plot. It was very fast paced and very easy to plow through the entire book. We are taken back a few years to understand how our unlikely crew came to be. I loved the multi-perspectives and the fact that we started on a day where the action is immediate and showed us how we came to our current timeline.

The characters were all so well thought out and so likeable, you can’t help but cheer them on the entire time. Red was quite the main character, a spitfire who is an icon as far as I’m concerned. Their background stories are so heartbreaking you feel for them so easily and so clearly.

The action in this book was extremely well written and easy to follow! Action packed fantasy is exactly what I need from the world. Anytime I can get a book like this, I can’t stop singing praises of it!

Back to the ending. Loved it. Can’t imagine a better setup for the next book. I loved Stevens writing style and all of the pop culture references. As a Marvel nerd, this was heaven!

"Magic, an idea that should have been
laughable, felt real."

The Guardian of the Palace written by Steven J.Morris, is an adventure sci-fic book. This is the first book in the series.
Synopsis -
Red, Scan, Bear, and Rocks are ex-miltia cum best-friends who are have having hard time to adjust in the civilians life, Red whose POV is used most during the book, is assigned as a Second in Security head of a 4 blocks magnificient building in NYC known as 'The Palace'/'La Penbrook Palancia'. One day The Palace is attacked under strange circumstamces by some horrendous creature's, there are 3 unearthly beings who are fighting these attackers. But does this mean that these 3 aliens really are saving the Place or there is some kind of foul play going?
Whom should Red rely on with these strange happenings, the attacks which for some reasons are not even visible on cameras?
What creatures are these and what they want?

My review - It is an amazing must read book, i'm thoroughly impressed with everything in this book. The plot setting is top notch you instantly immerse in its thrilling grip, the language and narrative are enriching. Author have used several POV which gives a worthy insight to the plot. There are lots of twists and turns which keeps you on the edge of you seat. I loved the character of Red, who is fearless yet kind hearted and have seen tough days. This is book which you will not be able to keep off.
There is nothing in this books which i would complain for, an absolute fun read.

I would recommend this book to everybody, it is a must read if you are Sci-fic or adventure lover.
Eagerly waiting for the next installment.

Red is on the security team for the Palace, a new building complex going up in New York City, when a similar complex in Hong Kong is attacked by... well, no one is exactly sure what. They just know that they need to double down efforts at the Palace to keep everyone safe. But can they keep the Palace safe when they don't know what's attacking them? And when they find out, will they even believe it?

Elves, trolls, and dwarves abound in this urban fantasy novel. Let me preface this by saying that I do not normally read this genre; I always have a hard time suspending disbelief. But this one made it sort of easy! The timeline for the first chunk of the book was a bit needlessly confusing, but once it stopped switching around, the plotline evened out and it was easy to follow and engaging. So much action, so much fun, and it made me believe there could be trolls and elves roaming the mean streets of NYC! And that ending?! So glad Book 2 is on its way!

I keep saying that sci-fi just isn’t my jam. And, yet, I’ve been reading more and more in this genre and loving every minute of it. It’s books like The Guardian of the Palace that keep drawing me in. So, I just need to be honest with myself and say I’ve found a new genre! I thoroughly enjoyed this story!

For me, I gauge how good a story is by how far it draws me in. When I read, it’s like watching a move in my head, no matter how much I enjoy the particular story. There are some books, however, that put me right in the middle of the thing. I see what the characters see, feel what they feel, and almost become one of them. (That may seem weird, but it’s my experience.) This book totally sucked me in. When I stopped reading, I had to give myself a moment to come back to reality.

The characters are likeable and relatable. Their development is well done. When faced with the knowledge that aliens are real and are attacking Earth, these characters act like any of us would. Well, any of us that don’t believe it to begin with. It did take some longer than others to accept this new revelation as fact, even when they saw evidence. I love how the characters come together as a team and eventually become more of a family that just teammates.

The aliens (the good guys, anyway) are comical in their attempts to understand the language and the ways of us earthlings. My favorite character is Grundle. He’s fierce and loyal and has a great sense of humor. He’s definitely big brother or best friend material. His laughter is contagious and lightens the mood overall.

For me, some of the technical parts were way over my head and I felt like I was out in left field. It was interesting, though, so didn’t take away from the story. I loved the magical aspect, which is more in my wheelhouse of reading material. I appreciated that this part of the story took me out of science fiction some and put me into urban fantasy. I felt more comfortable, maybe, and was able to enjoy the story more as a whole.

The action/invasion scenes are intense and well written. I liked how the magical elements came into play here. It’s not your typical fight scene.

I got anxious, angry, laughed, and cried throughout the book. The ending left me like, WTH? It was good but left so many unanswered questions. I can’t wait to read the second book, Stars in the Sand, which is also available now.

I gave this book 5 stars and highly recommend it to fans of Science Fiction, Fantasy, Sci-Fi/Fantasy, and Urban Fantasy.

I received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Most fantasy confuses me. I mean it’s bad how confused I get. All the names and worlds and factions and alliances and histories and languages... it’s too much for my brain to compute. Give me Earthly fantasy. Give me The Guardian of the Palace. One of the most accessible fantasy stories I’ve ever read. Of course there is magic and aliens and weird parasitic creatures and rescue missions and fighting and battling but I never felt lost. Well not as much as usual anyway. The characters were fun and personable and I can see myself hanging out with them. And yes I even mean the aliens. I did feel however that their arcs were lacking a bit. Just a little more character development would have been great for me. The plotting and action were paced fairly well and there was a great balance between that and dialogue. A few sections seemed to drag on too long for my taste and I got bored for a bit halfway in but overall it was an enjoyable reading experience. The ending was a bit too much of a cliff-hanger and I feel when book two comes out readers may have forgotten it. It’s a decent recommendation from me. I don’t think fantasy lovers will be disappointed.

The Guardian of the palace by @steven.j.morris.writer

5/5 stars

What if aliens invaded NY and your only hope to save the world was a elf, dwarf, troll and an ex military team headed up by a bad ass female protagonists you will love.

This is the basis for this book series…..

Red is a human bad ass, first let me say thank you so much for writing a female character that is realistic. She doesn’t forget her training, she is a bad ass but she realizes her limitations and knows that she can improve and wants to. She is not arrogant or becomes all of sudden stupid…. Thank you, finally I can say I have read a character in a fantasy series where the female is a bad ass assassin type character that doesn’t go all Snow White squirrelly for some dumb reason just so she can relearn what she already knows.

Scab, Bear and Rocks are fun and I look forward to getting to know them more. I found them interesting and loved their camaraderie. I look forward to more of that as the series moves forward.
Galad, Grundle and Harry ( the wow team) are so super interesting and fun. Their shared history and antics are some of my favorite moments in the book. My all time favorite thing is this book was the interpretations and explanations…. So funny!!! I require so much more of that cause it was so much fun.

The world building and magic system is so incredibly well thought out and interesting. The magic alone is just so detailed. The author had thought of everything and is very detailed in his description of how this system works. I found it fascinating. Monsters, yep the monster infected ones are scary stuff and I wouldn’t want to go against them I love again how detailed they are.

This book is full of action and adventure and just so smart… the adjective that keeps running through my head and what I want to say is .. it’s so smart cause the whole book is just so smart!!! I start book 2 today and I can honestly say that I can’t wait!!!

Red Hernandez used to be in the military and although she’s trying to move on from that, everything is conspiring against her. When it appears an apocalypse is about the end Earth, as we know it, Red must figure out how to save the world.

The Guardian of the Palace is a different type of book for me and I have to say I really enjoyed it. Steven J. Morris’ main character, Red Hernandez, spoke to me. Her wit, sarcasm, and personality took this book to a whole other level. The pacing was fantastic and I didn’t want to put it down. Warning, this book ends leaving you ready for the next! If you are looking for a fun read, The Guardian of the Palace is for you.

I normally don’t read much of this genre (fantasy/sci fi). The Guardian of the Palace is different though. I’m so glad I gave it a read. Why you ask?

Well for me, it’s partly the giant lovable troll Grundle (whom I couldn’t help but think of as a Chewbacca of sorts). Yet he’s only one third of the “fairytale trio” (that includes an empath elf and a dwarf also 😳) trying to save Earth.

These three unlikely saviors are helping Red and her own team of humble misfits save Earth from alien monsters. 👾 As you can imagine, chaos ensues!

Sounds confusing right? Well, it’s not. That’s what makes this part fantasy part sci- fi book different for me. The writing here is so easy without being simple. It’s a well written tale with tons of excitement. Teleporting, spells, wormholes & magic mixed with a bit of modern technology make this book pretty special.

Red is a feisty, smart and tough leading character with lots of heart. Strong female lead for sure here.

Morris does a great job here laying the groundwork for a great series, complete with a nice cliffhanger. I’m anxious to read Book 2. I’ll be back mostly for Grundle 🤷‍♀️ but all the characters here have a place in my heart. I highly recommend this one if you dig fantasy and/or sci-fi! #teamgrundle ❤️ Check it out!

The Guardian of the Palace by Steven J. Morris is a fast paced urban fantasy, with a team of ex special forces soldiers now trying to settle back into normal life.
Some get a job as security, which is how they get dragged into trying to save the world. And who does the dragging? An elf, a troll, and a couple of other creatures who could be straight out of world of warcraft...

I especially liked how there was no romance, despite the main character being a woman! There's way too few female led books that aren't actually Paranormal Romance in disguise. And on top. She's very good at her job as well. A POV I loved all around!

The plot felt a bit disjointed in places, but the idea behind it all was interesting, and the tone and voice easily hooked me to the end. More like this please!

An absorbing fantasy adventure blending the mundane world we know with fantastical space travelling characters and world anihalating monsters.

Red is a wonderful character, no longer working for special forces, she is now a security guard for a tall skyscraper which is similar to one that has been just destroyed. She is a strong female character storming through a male orientated world, garnering respect wherever she goes. Which is fortunate as her skills are about to be used to save the world.

The supporting characters, Red's friends Bear and Scan, are as well developed as the elf, troll and the goblin, who are the guardians. Morris has created a complex world where magic is known and accepted, and a strong cast of characters all of whom you'll find yourselves rooting for. They certainly grow on you as the book progresses.

I listened to the audiobook version, and it does make it a little difficult following the timeline, which jumps around a bit, as we go back forth between the event and what preceded it, but Jillian Yetter does an amazing job narrating, and the story is so well written that once it gets going you are hooked.

This is a novel that I couldn’t put down!

I’ve never been interested in reading a fantasy novel before; having said that, Morris’ novel The Guardian of the Palace opened a new door for me. I thoroughly enjoyed this novel.

My enjoyment came mostly from the characters. The main protagonist, Red, and her team are all very likeable and easy to connect with. Plus, there is a dwarf, elf, and a TROLL!

It was also planned out perfectly. There were many opportunities for the plot to get a little messy, but Morris never let that happen. The flashbacks were placed perfectly and weren’t confusing to follow at all.

Beyond the fantasy aspect, there is a lot of comedy present. There were parts in this novel that actually made me laugh out loud. This was something I wasn’t expecting, but it was a great addition.

If you love fantasy/sci-fi, please check out Steven J. Morris and The Guardian of the Palace. Even if this isn’t your usual genre, take a chance on this one.

The writing is snappy and clear, and I highlighted multiple witticisms that made me smile. It's a plot-driven book, and readers that are inclined to analyze and strategize will love it - Steven J. Morris does a great job presenting the information the characters know (including the magic system) so that you can go for the ride with them.

I will admit, I'm not one of those readers. I read primarily for character arcs, and I felt the primary narrator, Red, was one dimensional. She was likable, full of grit, and honorable, but if the book didn't keep calling her Ms. Hernandez, I would have mistaken her for a white male. Maybe my expectations were simply too high - she's Latina, in her twenties, and former army special forces. Now, if you are interested in such things, you will know that several women have trained for special forces, but only 1 (2?) has actually been accepted into special forces units. Since Red served actively in an unspecified Middle Eastern country, she's obviously a very special person with a unique story. We get some of her military background in flashbacks in the second half of the book (there are two traumatic events that I didn't feel were explored fully enough - she basically shrugs off an attempted rape and never thinks about it again and she has a sexual relationship with her commanding officer. So Red didn't feel real to me - I realize that she is masculine and maybe she doesn't feel connected to Hispanic culture, but I really felt something was missing, even if it was her own acknowledgment of those things.

The other POVs had much fewer word count but all felt more authentic (maybe because most of them were white males?), and I think Agent Terry Smith was my favorite character (she also pointed out exactly what I was thinking for most of the book: “If you’ve got something you can do,” she shouted back, “then share it so we can have more than a vigilante crew trying to stop a world invasion!”).

I would recommend to fans of RA Salvatore or any D&D players who are looking for inspiration.

This is the kind of book I wish I had read when I was a teenager, or even younger, because it would have shown me perspectives and ways to live a life authentically that I considered unimaginable. Red , Rocks, Scan and Bear are trying to adjust to their civilian lives.

This book presents with the creatures who attempts to save the world from destruction.
The real story starts to unfold here onwards.

The plot happens to be quite adventurous and stimulating.

Every characters in the story is well depicted. I was hooked till the end. While reading this book it will surely intensify your curiousity.

The author has beautifully incorporated all the elements of a sci-fi fiction.

This book is well versed adventure and mystifying narration. I was thrilled after reading this book and my interest towards sci-fi got amplied.

The concept potrayed by the author is quite fascinating.

It's a literary rollercoaster ride that is hard to put down. I stated up all night to read through it, I just couldn't put it down.

Strong characters. Vivid scenes. Like I was there. Nice that the authors take you into the mind of the main characters. Can't put this book down for long; without picking it back up a little while later .

So the title itself reminds us of a famous marvel series --The Guardians Of Galaxy which was about a team of intergalactic creatures who protect people from planetary threats. Similarly this story goes.An original fantasy story intertwined with sci-fi, modern settings and intergalactic creatures along with a strong female protagonist, author presents this riveting tale which will surely hook you up from beginning till end.
.
Red Hernandez is a former military personnel with her friends from the same profession is trying to fit into the civil life and her new job.She has been assigned to look after the security of 'The Palace' which is a magnificent building.Soon her building was attacked and that attack seemed to be unnatural. While fighting with those attackers, she found some creatures by her side, for her support. These creatures were weird, like the ones she had only seen in movies. They were troll, elf, dwarf as unique in their appearances as well as the characteristics. From these creatures she got to know that she has to fight to for the security of not just building but for the Earth.
Do grab this amazing book to know whether our heroine with the help of creatures and her own ex military team will be able to save the earth from the monsters and aliens..
.
This book is very entertaining and engrossing. The plot is engaging with twists and suspense.Chracters are well thought out and admirable. Red is inspiring -- strong filled and feisty. Their banters are fun to read. Writing style is amazing and narration is smooth. One would feel the settings of Manhatten and easily imagine these creatures. It feels a bit slow pace and dry in the beginning but then perfectly pace up with readers imagination.Refreshingly innovative, the humour keeps the readers engaged.Author has also also described construction and building clearly depicting his knowledge and interest in them. The way this book was written - from different perspectives gave so much depth.
.
It has all the dynamics of an engrossing sci-fi.The ending was a great stop for the next book and makes me look forward to the rest of the series.

I am such a sucker for a great and gripping first sentence. It sets the tone for me for the whole book! And this one? Ooooh this one had me...”Corpses patterned the ground as far as my eye could see, a patchwork quilt of death.” A. Patchwork. Quilt. Of. Death. Fabulous right?! But I digress.

The Guardian of the Palace, Book 1 of the Guardian League series, is a fantasy/sci-fi book set in New York City. The protagonist, Red Hernandez, has a sketchy military past but a set of very unique skills. These invaluable skills make her perfect for a head security position in a new monstrous structure being built in the city. But when similar structures around the world begin to sustain attacks and no one claims responsibility, Red and her military buddies Bear, Scan and Rocks set out to unravel the mystery before NYC becomes the next target.

I really struggle with suspending belief while reading, which is why I rarely read sci-fi or fantasy. My mind just cannot seem to get lost in something that’s not real. This book has trolls, dwarves, and elves, which would normally make it a bit more difficult for me to truly immerse in the story. But the descriptive elements in this book made this a very enjoyable read for me! I had no problem picturing (and loving) these gigantic creatures or imagining the layout of a futuristic fully contained city covering many city blocks. It is action packed with a FIERCE female leading the way. Yes, please!

If you are a newbie to the sci-if/fantasy genre like me, give this one a try! I found it a very nice and enjoyable way to ease into something I am not that familiar with.

Thank you to the author and @bythebookvbp for this complimentary copy in exchange for an honest review.

To begin with, this was wonderfully gripping one, the one that surprises you. The Guardian of the Palace is one of a kind, intentionally and eagerly waiting for its sequel to come and cannot wait to hop on those before anyone getting their hands on.
But before me talking more, let me share my favourite part from this gorgeous book, to your surprise it is spooky and full of twists.

"Bear was gone, and Red had lost it. She coated herself in black gore as she slashed through the Infected in a rage the likes of which I’d only seen once before. Soon she
stood there, breathing heavily, nothing left to kill, and she let out a blood-curdling scream. Of all people, it was Galad who moved closer. From the wild look in her eyes, it was obvious she wasn’t thinking clearly, and she took a slash at Galad. But he was ready and deflected her blade. As though being invited to dance, Red moved in, and Galad gave her an outlet, keeping his distance and letting her spend her energy."

So much in so little, this is the first reaction you might feel and when you re-read it, you might feel the real magic that literature does to your head and heart.
Somewhere I felt, it's spooky and not a big fan if it, but I loved Morris's depiction to an extent that I couldn't stop myself from reading it and flipping through the Kindle, I adored the whole thrilled vibe I was getting.
Hoping to read his other works, as he talks interestingly about the titles " STARS IN THE SAND" and then the third part being twice as long as the first one. Also to my surprise, I could feel his Morris´s excitement when he was talking about his upcoming work.
I adore the writing style and narration part, it kept me gripping.
TBH the best part was the beginning and not the end, it started on a very indefinite patch.

This book is a decent example of spell-catching, engrossing piece. The tale revolves all around with the perspective of Garnet “Red” Herandez, who is appointed as a security head of a 4-blocks magnificient building ( The palace ). The palace, one day is unnaturally invaded. It was a 2 fronted Alien invasion at the lower level of the building. It’s not wise to give spoilers of this master piece, so I’ll specify reasons that why should everyone read this book. It is a deadly combination of science-fiction and fantasy. The funny characters of the tale like Elf, Dwarfs, Troll keeps you hooked with the pages with humor. The tale has integrated fairy-fantasy with modern scientific theories like worm-holes, teleportation techniques and magical spells. The chapters are short and precise that won’t let you boar and a homogeneous mixture of twist and suspense won’t let you sleep. The most entertaining part that I liked the most was who, why and how that invasion occurred. Garnet here is shown as a strong person, surrounded to kind people that makes this fairy-tale more adventurous. The tale has lessons encrypted pointing on strong female protagonist, humanity and strong team-work. The author has potrayed it such that every reader of any genre may enjoy. I am too much excited for the second part of this book. Overall, if it’s a matter of taste then the tale is delicious.

Language: ENGLISH
GENRE: Science Fiction /Thriller
RATINGS: ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️ / 5

Book Review:

Ms Hernandez also called RED, an ex-army veteran is the guardian of the Penbrook Palace. A very different read, this book is all about protecting this magnificent Palace from the Alien invasion.
There are unexpected twists and turns in the book. Readers will be hooked on the suspense that comes in every chapter and gradually builds up.
A slow read but beautifully narrated fiction. I loved the mention of a cup of coffee many times. It's been called "Liquid heaven"!
Every time we go through a page that has mentions Coffee, I just picked up my cup to add more fun to the read.

Loved the narration and detailed slow build up on the scenarios that the author has tried to put up in the book. Each and every chapter is conceived scene by a scene which makes it super thrilling and interesting. Readers who prefer thrillers, science fiction are going to love this one.

It is an amazing read and the author has put so much creativity into the Palace, its guards. Not to forget about the Dwarfs, Elfs who create a humor-filled scene.
An energetic read for the week.

Few lines from the Book:

I slept poorly, dreaming of a city whose architecture was alien to me. Soaring stone arches with flowering vines lined a street cobbled with stones, but the stones were cut and placed so precisely that the road was smooth. No vehicles were on the street, and there were no people nearby, only in the distance, looking frantic, like a mound of ants that had been kicked.

Pick up this beauty and enjoy your read.

Book - The Guardian of the Palace (The Guardian League #1)
Author - Steven J. Morris
Genre - Fantasy fiction

This is my fifth book on this genre and this is my most favorite one of all. The story revolves around the protagonist Red Hernandez. She had previously served the army. She is now in duty to guard a huge 4 storeyed palace along with three other guards. Red could sense the state of mystery. She was strong and has the ability to defend the palace from any disasters. Unfortunately it was invaded by an unidentified creature that turns out to be aliens. She realised that their intention is not just to destroy the palace buy entire earth. Later we could find that some creatures were trying to help them. Will she save the palace? Why is the palace invaded?

This book has a perfect blend of science fiction and fantasy. The characters like elf, dwarfs and trolls made the story humorous. I loved their part in the book. The chapters are not so long and you'll never feel bored. The three guards Scan, Bear and Rocks' part in the book is remarkable. Grundle , the giant troll is lovable. He seems so human. His thought processes were much like humans. The character of Red is portrayed so good. She inspires me.

The author had used simple language and it is lucid. The usage of teleporting, spells, worm- holes and technology has taken the book to another level. I can't wait to read the next part of this book

I am really impressed by the opening of the book . Genre was action come science fiction fantasy story . Im not great fan of fantasy book but this book made me mad of it .

Coming to the story , red Hernandez who is ex military cop and guarding building which is called as palace , here comes the guardian of the palace title of the book . Story also revolving around her and the strange thing . She is very strong and sensing something strange and mystery thing happening in lower-level of the building.
Yeah , it was alien invasion in the building .

And I loved her three friends rocks bear and scan. Brilliant characterization by Steven J Morris the author . Non human character an elf , a troll and a dwarf totally stole my heart coz I personally love dwarf right from my childhood.
3 friends of red joined with her .
Really , do they helped her?
Does she have power to fight with it?

this is quite slow moving book . but dialogue which is top notch of the book. You can feel tons of strange feel which ultimately make you jump into another level of fiction world . And you will totally lost in the book . Im eargerly waiting for second part of the book . Am I the only one ?

Ultimate part I loved was actions and fantasy part . Rating is ⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐.
If you read this book, you can't sleep without finishing it. Wonderful science fiction fantasy book .

Book Review:

The Guardian of the Palace is a sci-fi fantasy thriller. This is the first installment in The Guardian League series. The book revolves around Red (Ms. Hernandez), an ex-military special op, and her friends, Scan, Bear and Rocks; and their struggle to protect the Palace.

As these ex-military special ops are trying to adjust to the civilian life, a larger group of otherworldly creatures are at play, trying to destroy Earth. Red a.k.a. the Guardian of the Palace, while dealing with security issues at a local construction site, the Palace, encounters something strange; she's convinced that non-human forces are involved - one causing destruction and the other trying to protect. Is there as impending apocalypse? What's the motive behind the attacks? Will the Guardians be able to save the Palace?

The book is set in New York. Steven J. Morris has built the plot with various interesting and meaningful characters, surprising twists and turns and composed a genuinely gripping story. The effortless blending of the otherworldly creatures with the modern set-up is praiseworthy. The suspense in the book has been kept intact throughout and it will engulf you and take you on a ride. The language is enriching and the narrative well-paced. Overall, this is a really good and a different book. Happy reading!

P.S. Eagerly waiting for the second installment.

" The guardian of the palace " is a book written by Mr.Steven J. Morris. Mr. Steven is a bestowed author in the genre of sci-fi fantasy literature. He can bring the touch of great fiction authors like J.R.R. Tolkein in his writings. He is even inspired by him as an author . This book has special sense of uniqueness in it you will feel as if you are watching one good thriller movie sitting in the theatres. The story is set in the sub-urban areas of New York in the construction of a building named "The palace" . This palace is protected by four ex-military personnels named Red, Rocks, Scan and Bear who are working there as security heads . These peple are trying to settle down as civilian . The story takes an uneven twist when Red founds out some abnormal creatures or aliens in the building who are there for some purpose. Red the protagonist character finds out that the aliens are planning something and therefore the humans are in danger. The story has more to it because it's not just a stereotype human vs aliens. As there are some good aliens also who are trying to stop these bad ones . Hence to find out who wins you need to read the book. Let me suggest it will be worth your time . It is an awesome thriller and a must buy for everyone out there.
