My name is Brandon Ferryman. I went out one night to get a burrito. Who knew that such a simple thing would change my life, or end it?
I woke up on the side of the road with some pumpkin-headed monster saying he was the god of death, fate, and justice. I was chosen to run a very special establishment. A place that lay between worlds. A place called the Coffin Hotel.
Now I have to fight monsters, free spirits, and run a mystical hotel. I'm clearly not qualified, but when has that ever stopped anyone from doing anything.
This is my journey of gaining power, fighting injustice, making sure the guests are comfortable, and trying to not lose my head.
*The Coffin Hotel is an Urban Fantasy Adventure with action, humor, angels, witches, undead, demons with Karen haircuts, tentacle nerds, over the top situations, unconventional relationships, and burritos!
I like wild, crazy adventures. Book worm with a bad case of the shakes between finishing a book and starting a new one. Monsters can be beautiful. Reality can take a long walk off a short plank. Lover, fighter, and movie monster watcher. Have fun and enjoy the journey.
“Second star to the right and straight on 'til morning.”
The story fills to similar to a freemium type ergo with the content to keep you hooked but not truly elaborate plotlines to great a vivid story instead we’re given the base minimum of a backstory for the world with no truly original idea for the MC getting all the happy go-lucky moments expect he died and horny girls pop like weeds every where. An the most annoying thing was when finally get a real neat idea for villain you give the stupid reason for evil plan that nearly rage quiet the story but I worked threw every thing to express my displeasure.
At my request I received a copy of this audiobook in order to give a fair and unbiased review.
Genre: Isekai fantasy harem as an undead hotel manager Power dynamics in harem: The MC is a good, horny guy that many find irresistible. It is still early days harem-wise, so time will tell for the final power dynamics. Explicit/adult material: Explicit. Orcs, undead, succubi. Soul satisfying.
Summary: Brandon loves burritos. And in the end, he literally died for one. Luckily a god-like entity raises him as a handsome hunk of flesh and assigns him to run a monster hotel that is a common stop for monsters and souls that are currently between worlds. The Hotel has Burritos. And a sexy witch that is supposed to help him get started. And a sea of incubi and other sexy monsters just stopping for a night. What could go wrong?
Narrator Voice diversity: Every character has a distinct and easily recognisable voice. Some with added sound effects to highlight their power or exoticness. Pacing and intonation: The story is told in a lively and engaging way. Sex scenes: Well done. Overall Narration: 4.5/ 5 stars.
The book’s strengths. - The premise of a running a hotel with a stream of hot customers to bed - The premise of running a hotel for souls and monsters between worlds - The financial/progressive fantasy aspects of investing the paid soul coins in the hotel and equipment - The girls are diverse and cute - The narration
The book’s weaknesses. - The focus of burritos was a little much for me
It's a solid fun read. I do think there's be some real benefit to taking a little bit more time to each event or character it all felt a little rushed. And the main character really needs to be smarter in fights, the action chapters felt really weird because the main character was a giant idiot but strong enough that it was fine despite just starting? I just think more time needs to be taken in general to make sure that Action A should have consequence B both with character interaction and fights a lot of it didn't quite make sense and then everything just worked out for the MC. Even with magic and inherent craziness there needs to be internal consistency. With a bit more work it could be a great series though and even in current form it was a fun read.
The writing is good, but not at the level of a 5 star. The MC and characters are written well. The only thing that got to me was the the main girl is written in a way that I was 90% sure she was either gonna die, get kidnapped, or turn bad by the end of the book. They don’t, which is good, as I don’t read this genre for the drama. But I was nervous every time the main girl would be hyped up and then just tease the MC, as it really kinda made me think it was hyping her up just to turn those emotions against the reader. But good news!! No betrayal! Grab this book!!
This book had me laughing out loud. It doesn't take itself seriously and is a great casual read. If I'm nitpicking, I'd say some of the word choices can be a little repetitive and some (not all) of the characters a little one dimensional. But it didn't stop me from enjoying the book for what it is; a sexy, action packed story full of laughs and silliness. I would recommend to anyone looking for some light hearted paranormal/fantasy with plenty of sass and cleavage.
I really shouldn't have tried this book as I don't like it when people let their own viewpoints of the real.world stray into their books... With the first Karen remark I was like ahhh here we go.. Wokeness time... I kept on reading though.. I kept on getting lost on the words and sentence structure.. I ended up giving up two thirds into the book.. Its a shame because the premise is pretty cool.. But the book just didn't grab me
Oh, man. I really enjoyed reading this book. This story has the possibility to become a great series. The story and characters were interesting and engaging. Once I started reading I didn't want to stop. There was plenty of action and humor. I'm looking forward to reading more about these characters and their further adventures. This book is definitely worth reading.
Hotel Transylvania for adults and it’s a wild ride. Lots of jokes and references with plenty of steamy times. Halloween has never been hotter. Characters are fun. There’s not much of an ongoing plot as this is more an adventure of the day story but I heave a feeling there will be as the story goes on.
3.5 stars. It took the MC a long time to evolve from a snarky douchebag, a delay that almost made me drop this. He eventually got less snarky, but his inability to keep from ogling and pestering his co-worker for sex even when there is work to be done was annoying.
Other than that, pretty typical and there was enough action to make it about something other than the MC's libido.
Also a good read. I enjoyed the story and the characters. Different take on the supernatural than I have read before. Some common elements but a slightly different focus, a building and the surrounding area of world. I do plan go read the next one, want to see what happens to the characters.
If you like, snark, sarcasm, hot babes, crazy adventures and nonstop action you're going to love this book! Pressed into service to the god of Autumn, Brandon is Manager of the Coffin Hotel a way station for souls in transition. Dealing with evil monsters, Karen's, demons while rehabbing a rundown sentient hotel what could go wrong? Bring on book 2!
If you do not like Crude sexual references, prevented Sexual acts, DO NOT BUY this book!! otherwise, it is actually a light-hearted silly story that is amusing to listen to or read. The Narrator does a good job with the various characters' voices and the entire storyline. Writer has come up with some unusual characters' descriptions.
Interesting concept you went with and otherwise it was a good read but your MC was mostly a blank slate, I know you tried to subvert it by painting him as a loner, but at times it made him kinda of empty
This is a book full of great characters and fun. the humour is dry and tongue in cheek. The concept is a little different and intreaging and I can't wait to find out more about Lydia and Vanessa. Come on book two.
A burrito loving slacker finds redemption with hot undead women. That's it. This is a niche book, a very good niche book. The ending was a bit cheap, but all in all, a good book.
A truly beyond enjoyable adult fantasy!!! Excellent non fade to black adult fantasy activities!!! Wonderful world building, powerful fun characters and first rate interactions!!!
I wasn't really sure what to expect, but I'd describe this almost slice of life. Its mainly about the MC learning there's more to life than being a hermit. It just took him dying to learn
