My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Light Novel #11

My Next Life as a Villainess: All Routes Lead to Doom! Volume 11

Rate this book
Katarina's attempts not to become the villainess that she is destined to be seem to have been in vain—her Dark Magic items seem to increase by the day, and now, under Raphael's supervision, she is trying out a new spell that could be the key to avoiding doom. While she struggles with that, she also has to think about her engagement, since her relatives want her to get married as soon as possible, and then... she gets summoned by the King himself. Between all this, however, she goes to the Village where Maria used to live, and she makes some new acquaintances... Dewey's family.

3.5 unreasonably rounded up. Or maybe it's not so unreasonable - there are some major plot developments in this volume, one of which involves Katarina realizing that she can't just keep ignoring Keith and Jeord's declarations of love. Of course she still manages to make things worse for everyone (she has anti-skill in the romance department), but it's still a big change from the status quo. We also get some very serious themes about difficult families and more information about the mysterious big bad in the shadows, making this one of the more plot-heavy volumes of the series. Sarah is becoming a more interesting character as well, which could really help pull the themes of villainesses together in the end.

I still think Katarina may be somewhere on the demisexual spectrum, although I doubt that's intentional on the author's part.

In reality this is more of a four star volume as far as this series goes, but I’m giving it a 5 stars purely for the sheer amount of joy that fills me up when I go into a new Hamefura volume. I expected a lot of fluff and a lot of fun, and for the most part, this installment delivered.

Hamefura volume 11 kicks off to a roaring start. I once said I sensed Katarina character development on the horizon and, lo and behold, we got it! Sorta. I was really surprised by some of the insight we got into our lovely Bakarina, and I can’t wait to see how it plays out in future volumes.

Romance-wise, nothing ever quite lives up to volume 8, but there were a couple of scenes here and there I bookmarked. The main plot is advanced along a little as well, but this volume’s primary focus is in its characters. As a staunch member of #teamjeord, I’m thoroughly pleased with this volume’s contents in that department (although you Keith apologists may find some things to satiate you as well). Finally, Dewey’s growing on me and Maria gets a little time in the spotlight.

Good stuff overall—and are you seriously saying I have to wait who-knows-how-long for the next volume? I may start going into Katarina withdrawals if I cannot read the next one in a timely manner…

Fav quote: “More than future wife and husband, Mary and Alan looked like a crime boss and her lowly thug”

P.S. Satoru Yamaguchi is so sweet in the acknowledgements. Her little personal anecdote may as well have been my favorite part of the volume. I definitely recommend reading through the acknowledgements in this one!

I hope that Katarina soon finds out that all of her daydreams of marrying Maria actually mean something 😅

on the one hand i did honestly appreciate katarina's self-realizations about why she avoids romantic awareness like it's her full time job but on the other hand the way it's being primarily used to develop her relationship potential with jeord and keith, my least favorite ship options for her...

Like it

I like that the romance part with the prince begin to progress and moving forward just a little bit. Pretty much it.

First book of the year! and on the 1st no less. haha. Well, anyway, that being said, it's been less than a year since i started this series and i just finished volume 11. Man almost caught up at this rate.

But the question is, is this volume any better than 10 or is it worse? and the answer to that, is that 11 is MUCH better than 10. It's almost as if the author realized that people were getting tired of bonehead Katarina not being able to realize or respond to people being in love with her, and 11 seems to be proactively dealing with that.

In this one, her dad calls her in and goes "Hey. yeah. you need to respond to people who love you. if you don't, they're gonna move on. So you should probably tell them one way or the other." Which is good advice. and for once, she takes it to heart. So she basically explains to Jeord and Keith the reason WHY she's so bad at romance and it's because she's afraid of it. Her reason being is that, as a villainess, she's afraid that if she falls in love with someone, it will lead her down the route of doom, like give her a bad end because in the original game, it's what caused her a bad ending. I can understand that even though at this point in the girl's life, it's a little unfounded. I also think (She hasn't said this) that she's afraid that if she picks someone her friend group will leave and that thought terrifies her. Either way, it's nice to FINALLY (11 books in) see some character romance development in her brain. like she understands at some point soon she NEEDS to either make a decision, or truly fall in love with someone.

Besides that, the main bulk of the story is essentially Katarina, Maria, and Larna all dealing with Dewey (coworker at magical ministry) 's family and the rough situation they're in. This was nicely paced and worked fine. Then there's a chapter about Kat and Maria patching things up with her dad. and THAT went WAYYYYY too fast. i feel they could have slowed that down a bit. it felt like the author wanted to wrap up that storyline in 5 pages or less and had a challenge to do so.

When it comes to the magical ministry people, i'm really not a fan of Dewey or Cyrus, the people they added. They're....fine? but they're kind of dull. I DO like Sora though and find him kinda cool.

Now, onto tin foil hat theory time. So. the sequel game that Katarina's trying to avoid her doom in "Fortune Lover 2" Cyrus, Sora, Dewey, and the other people from the first game are romanceable options, but there's 2 secret romances. prince from other country guy and there's one other secret one. Now, i could be wrong here, but i think it would AMAZING if the final secret romance option was Katarina. I think that would really twist this story on its head. As i've said in prior reviews, i don't NORMALLY like Sapphic romances, but for some reason, Katarina X Maria just WORK. Like i don't know what it is, but i really like these two together. So here's hoping that's the case. as i've stated before, i'm happy with her ending up with anyone other than Jeord. I still don't like him.

All in all though, this volume was much better than 10. There seemed to be at least SOME character development, and now we have a timeframe. the end of FL2 is in 6 months. so she's halfway through that year. So things will come to a head soon, and i'm still VERY interested to see who Katarina will end up with (PLEASEEEE not Jeord. literally ANYONE else is fine).

Solid 4 out of 5. (almost caught up! only 2 more volumes are out in english!)

Katarina has to face once again the prospect that being engaged generally means eventually getting married, and people are starting to ask when she and Jeord will tie the knot. In an effort to avoid the question, she finds herself involved in sorting out Dewey's family issues.

If there's one constant, it's that Katarina is unwilling to commit to anything deeper than friendship with the people who surround her, no matter how desperately they are proclaiming they want her as something more. Jeord and Alan are feeling more hopeful now that some of their history has been revealed and Katarina has her usual nonreaction to it, but if anything she's more determined to back away from her engagement.

Of course, being Katarina, "temporarily backing off" means she's just baiting her would-be suitors a lot harder.

Dewey, like Cyrus, is someone she connects to both because of his job and because she's invested in helping him get closer to Maria (although honestly trying to encourage someone as young as him to be seen as an actual suitor is rather gross). Things feel like they resolve a little too easily here, but I do like that Katarina isn't the only one trying to make things right. She's more the little nudge that starts the avalanche.

Overall this isn't too bad, though any progress on the overarching plot remains very minimal. I rate this book Recommended.

The first chapter where the king explains and apologizes for the royal family's role in spreading dark magic isn't so important when compared to Katarina deciding to confront her feelings. After being talked to by Duke Claes and the king's youngest brother for ignoring her feelings, and consequently toying with her suitors', Katarina finally faces the truth that she is afraid of falling in love. She knows she has to face her fears to do right by Geordo and Keith. However, as she can only focus on one thing at a time, and just needs 6 months to survive the game's predicted doom endings, she tells all this to the 2 boys. Geordo and Keith are ecstatic to hear that Katarina is ready to confront her feelings after she deals with whatever secret concern she has. Consequently, they also become more bold in flirting with her.
Meanwhile, Dewey's abusive upbringing is brought into light. Larna takes care of this. Meanwhile, Sarah targets Katarina but runs away when faced with Katarina's kindness.
Maria reconciles with her father.

I love that explanation for why our Bakarina has been hiding from romance for herself. It makes perfect sense and giving a voice to why rather than just being a personality quirk makes me incredibly happy. She's having to actually face her feelings and various ships are advancing all at the same time (I love the term "Obnoxiously sexy" I laughed so hard). It's been really nice seeing her have at least a few characters that aren't immediately madly in love with her (although I do love the relationships where they are, don't get me wrong!) and her interactions with the older generation have been very interesting!
So much happened in this book! I can't wait for the next one to come out!!!

“One day, you just fall in love and realize you can't fight your own feelings, and that's it.” (47)

Every book has these men becoming more and more bold, and some of them are really making their moves. Sora will always be number one in my book for her, but I can see the author taking the series in another direction too. Only time will tell. I either need to buy the next novels as an ebook (if it's in English), or just sit in limbo til Book 12 & 13 are published as a paperback. I need to know what happens next, where Katarina's next choices, words, and influence will take her. She's charmed me too because I'm obsessed with this series, and it really makes me laugh out loud.

Volume 11 in the series.

This series focuses more on Katarina realizing that she can't just keep ignoring Keith and Jerod's declarations of love, and admitting she doesn't actually understand what romance is, one which she quickly admits to them.

Another part of the story focuses on Dewey, who has a crush on Maria but comes from a troubled background.

Without giving too much away, this was an interesting volume, that has the main focus on childhood abuse, and while the story has a happy ending, it was an interesting read.

I look forward to reading the next volume in the series.

This one I kept putting down but finally finished in about a day. The way volumes like this handle their darker tone (dealing with child abuse, isolation, the attitudes of the town, etc) is also a bit off for me. The volumes I love the most are the ones that lean heavily on romance tropes over romantasy.

Katarina just doesn't have the emotional depth to tackle these issues with any gravitas and it instead reads like the most shallow kind of world building.

More backstory including truly shitty dads and learning how to deal with them, again, these have some stakes to them but not overly much, and I'm interested to see where the next few volumes go.
