She and her husband RV, traveling to whitewater rivers to kayak all over the Southeast. I loved the story, but I need to know what kind of monster is Christabell and what is it with her obsession with human hair? And why didn't Jane kill her and her husband - I would never feel safe leaving those two behind my back, because neither one of them seem either stable or sane... I am not cool with them being free and unchallenged out there in the boonies...

Feeling responsible for the kidnapping of two women (b/c the kidnapper busted out jail seeking revenge after someone on Jane's team killed his werewolf sister), Jane enlists the help of Sarge (from BENEATH A BLOODY MOON) and his monster dog in a rescue mission.

I want to know 3 things:

1. How is it exactly that Sarge is sane?
2. How are Sarge and Christabel able to communicate with monster dog?
3. WHAT THE BLOODY HECK IS CHRISTABEL??!

Another actioned filled short from jane Yellowrock's world. In a way it's a sequel to Beneath a Bloody Moon and answers some of the questions left open in it. At the same time it leaves us with other questions. Like what the hell is Christabell and is she a future treat for Jane to deal with? The best thing about this story was Rick's absence that let me enjoy it without wanting to enter the book and strangle him :D

This is a follow up to the last short where Jane left one loose end. Faith Hunters short stories are always great. I am feathering them in between my longer reads, but I can't wait to get back to the next one.

This novella picks up where Beneath a Bloody Moon leaves off, with Jane going to see if perhaps the lone wolf is the cause of the deaths in the area where they took down the pack. She soon finds out it is the brother of the crazy female of the pack that they killed. This one was so much better for me. Jane isn't on the edge of death and Rick is only on the phone. The story line is much more cohesive and she is more in control. Much better read for me and I enjoyed it through.

When Jane and Sarge go fugitive-hunting in the alligator infested swamps of Louisiana, not everybody is going to make it out alive, which is probably a good thing...

This is one of Faith's darker novellas, but there's no denying it's a good one.

Oct 10th, 2016: The Jane Yellowrock audible novellas are currently on sale & practically free. Go get them while you can.

This book was a bit of a two-parter with Beneath a Bloody Moon, and I loved that, and I wouldn't mind spending more time with these characters!

Black Water is an audio short story from the Jane Yellowrock series written by Faith Hunter and read by Khristine Hvam. It takes after the events in the sixth novel, Blood Trade, and centers on Jane Yellowrock and her search for two missing women. She recruits Sarge and his monstrous dog to help her. It was first written and collected in Black Water anthology.

Black Water centers on Jane Yellowrock as she forms a search party looking for two missing women who were kidnapped. She particularly feels responsible, because previously Jane Yellowrock killed a small pack of marauding werewolves, but she had no idea that one of the werewolves she killed had a brother in Angola Prison, who escaped and kidnapped the aforementioned women.

Black Water is written and narrated rather well. It is a story that introduced two characters that I have not read about, but they are both incredibly quirky people. One wonders about the sanity of Sarge and the creepiness of Christabel.

All in all, Black Water is a well written, but more importantly, it expanded the wonderful world that is the Jane Yellowrock universe.

This is an exciting short story and sort of a sequel to "Beneath a Bloody Moon". It goes along as one would expect a Jane Yellowrock story to go, but this time the targets are sex slave traders. The only problem I see is that the character development for the perpetrator they are hunting down was not well done. This story needed to be longer with the perpetrator's character being more than just a name and a tattoo.

This short story is a direct sequel to Beneath a Bloody Moon, but it doesn't actually answer any of the questions I was left with.
That said, Black Water is a good story onto itself, covering some rather gnarly real world facts/situations that are too easily brushed under the rug. It's well written and I found myself pulled into it more than I was with Bloody Moon. Maybe because of the ''unique'' hunt.

This was a good, quick little short. It’s a follow up to “Beneath a Bloody Moon”. It’s action packed, full of Jane being Jane and running off to help the people in a small town. She’s already there for her own investigation when Rick calls, making it another favor her big cat owes her.

We have a little action, a little blood and a good book to read. I loved it.

Jane teams back up with Sarge and her partners Alex and Eli to rescue a coupe of kidnapped women. I am loving the familial dynamics with Alex, Eli, and Jane, and I really want to know what on earth Sarge’s wife Christabel is..she’s way scarier than Beast on a rampage.

I really liked this short story. This tied in to the previous short story and we got more insight into Sarge but also more questions where his wife is concerned. I feel fairly sure we'll visit this group again someday.

I love this series! I just read the short stories in Black Water. In a way, the three stories in this book are all about women being attacked and, in two cases, kidnapped and abused. In the shortest story, Snafu, Jane herself is attacked when she reports for her first internship as a PI. In the other two, Jane sets out to rescue the kidnapped women. We meet Nell in one of the stories. I understand that she will be the main character in the new series set in Jane's world. She is an intriguing character with lots of room to grow as she gets involved with Rick's team of supernatural investigators. I eagerly await that book, as well as Broken Soul. I'm eager for Jane and Bruiser to FINALLY get together. :-)

Read as part of Black Water anthology

This shortie is direct continuation of Beneath a Bloody Moon: A Jane Yellowrock Story, so it should be read after that one. Both stories cover the time between book #6 and book #7.

Considering how much this story leans on Beneath a Bloody Moon, I can't say it stands good on its own. To put it mildly, you would be able to enjoy it more if you read the story where Jane meets Sarge first.
Sarge's wife is a blast, though.

This book was okay. There isn't a whole lot happening. While Sarge's wife is an interesting conundrum, there isn't really any explanation or further info given. And, as with most of the short stories in this series, I found it a bit lacking and I really wanted something more.

I've never read anything by Faith Hunter before but I liked this, maybe because it was a fast read. I did not read it even close to in order but still could figure out what was going on with the characters and what it was about. The Jane Yellowrock series is one I will add to my TBR.
