Horned Holidays #2

A Gift for Nicholas

Rate this book
Can a single mother show an arrogant alien warrior the true meaning of the holidays?

Jenna is a hard-working single mom with no time for fairy tales. She dismisses her daughter’s stories of a mysterious horned Santa living in the woods as no more than the imagination of a precocious child – until the day her daughter doesn’t return home.

Her frantic search leads her to a crashed spaceship and a massive, horned alien warrior. He’s bossy, arrogant – and has a loneliness which matches her own.

When Ambassador Nicholsarian’s chief rival doesn’t return after the… distraction he arranged, he refuses to admit he’s concerned. But when the months pass without word, he finally sets out to investigate – only to have his own ship crash on the backwater planet of K.R.S. Three.

Before he can determine if a similar fate befell the other male, his mission is diverted by two of the most fascinating creatures he has ever encountered: a small child who shows no fear of his mighty horns, and a beautiful female who is equally unimpressed with his mighty… sword.

Trapped together by an early snowfall, Jenna and Nicholas find an unexpected comfort in each other’s company. It is the season of giving, but she has a daughter to raise and he’s looking for the fastest way off the planet – what could they possibly have to offer each other?

A sweet and steamy holiday tale featuring a determined single mom, a reluctant hero, and, of course, a very happy ending! (Intended for mature audiences.)

Merry Christmas and happy holidays! 🎄🎄🎄🎄

This was the final of ten Christmas related books I have read this holiday season and it was a cute way to finish. Alien romances are a guilty pleasure of mine and I love a holiday twist. This is the second book in a series I hope is continued next year, the Horned Holidays. Book 1: Krampus and the Crone was a 3 star read for me a year ago in December 2020. I’m not sure if this book was better in execution compared to the first or if I was just in a more festive mood but that aside let’s talk about this one.

There are 3 important characters that stole my heart.

Lottie is Jenna’s daughter and the one instigates Nicholsarian and her mom’s meeting. She sees the Tandroki warrior with his red suit and gray hair and immediately thinks - Santa . Understandable as it is Christmas time and she’s heard the folklore of Santa her entire life, she is around 7 and she has that child mentality that made everything possible.

Nicholas whose full name is Ambassador Nicholsarian D’Jelosvenn but is known throughout the novel as Nicholas. Is an uptight Tandroki warrior who comes from the wrong side of the tracks for his position. As a result of his ostrazized upbringing he has had to fight for everything he is and can be very cold. He's the equivalent of a scholarship kid at a hoity toity private school and boy is he aware of that. He comes to the backwater K.R.S. Three because he caused a lil incident for Krampasarian and since the latter disappearance he is concerned and feeling guilty. He goes looking for him but he crashes too.

Jenna is a single mom of Lottie. Trying her best to take care of her kid in a town that has fallen on hard times because of low fishing catches. She was a sweetheart and worked to do the best for Lottie. She helped Nicholas to accept himself and his desires. I am so happy they ended up together even though it was given as happy endings are virtually guaranteed.

This book was very fun and Christmassy while not being only Christmas. As the civilization of K.R.S. Three are descended from humans that crashed and as a result only certain traditions persisted. Love the aliens and the 125 pages packed full of cuteness. I don’t tend to expect a lot of development in my short less than 200 page romances so this worked for me.

3.5 stars - This was a nice progression of the world that was established in the first book in the series, and it was good to see a different plot line that maintained the charm of the original

I don't know why, but I just find these novellas so cute and fun. Definitely not the best things I've ever read, but for a novella, so entertaining. This has a single mom, a cute kid and a grumpy alien with a little Christmas sprinkled in? What more could I want from a short little novella? Honestly wouldn't mind more from this world and I feel like she definitely left the door open for more...could be fun. I'm going to have to check out some more books from this author that I've had on my TBR forever, but put off mostly because of the crazy covers 😂

I just really had a hard time getting into this. I can't say why, but it happens. It flowed really slowly and the characters just didn't do anything for me to make me care what happened. Others may enjoy, it just wasn't for me.

At my age (60), life is way too short & my time is too important to force myself to read a book I'm not enjoying, especially when there are so many other books out there waiting to be read.

This is a cute sci-fi alien romance, but it was just too short to have enough character development for me. I wanted more backstory on both Nicholas and Jenna. It gets 3 stars from me.

Nicholas was mostly likable, but he was incredibly arrogant. I get that he was raised to be that way on his world, but I found it off-putting. I did like that he rescued Jenna's daughter, even when he didn't trust anyone on the planet, and was actually very good to her. I also liked when he realized that his world's culture of not sharing affection or love wasn't right for him -- it took him a while to realize that, but he did.

I liked Jenna, and thought it was good that she so easily accepted Nicholas. She didn't automatically decide that he was dangerous or untrustworthy, just because he was an alien.

I did think that Nicholas and Jenna fell in love a little too quickly to believe -- but that is fairly typical in romance novellas. They were good together, though.

My rating system is below.
1 star -- Hated it, or did not finish. I usually only give this rating if some of the content is truly objectionable to me, like if one of the main characters does something really awful, and gets away with it.
2 stars -- Didn't like it. This rating usually means that I thought the writing wasn't very good, the editing was terrible, I didn't like the characters, or it had other major flaws.
3 stars -- I liked it, but had some minor issues with it. This rating means that there were minor editing issues, the story needed more character development, it was just too unrealistic, or had some other fairly minor issue. The majority of books I read get this rating – I do not consider it a bad rating.
4 stars -- I liked it a lot. This is a high rating for me, and I rarely give a higher one.
5 stars -- I loved it, and will probably read it again. Very few books are good enough to get this rating from me. The ones that do are usually classics.

Actual Rating: 3.5

I think this book did a better job at giving background for our hero, which in the first book I found a bit lacking. I better understood Nicholasarian and his actions which helped since I wasn’t a fan of him at the start of the book. In the end, I adored him along with Jenna, Lottie, and Nutty. I was happy that Nicholas found closure over his and Krampus’s disagreement, although that disagreement led both to their happily ever afters, so neither Tandroki was too upset over it anymore.

This was such a great holiday romance and I loved the characters. A lonely alien male had no idea what he'd find when he crashed his space ship ;) With a cute kid, a fun squirrel, and fab chemistry sparking off the pages, it was a one-sit read for me ;D

Another horned holiday book to get me in the mood for the season of giving. This one is about Jenna and Nicholsarian, Kramparsarian's rival from the first book. And I liked that they have sort of parallel journeys. A good time for Christmas.

A Gift for Nicholas de Honey Phillips serie Horned Holidays libro 2

Argumento:

❄️ “It does not matter where I am, it matters who I am with. I wish to be with you and with Lottie. To be a… family.”
~~~
Jenna is an incredible woman! She’s kind, compassionate, understanding and fierce. Even more, she’s so selfless and hardworking and she’s an amazing mother to the sweetest and most adorable and fearless little girl - Lottie. Jenna is a sweetheart and I loved her so, so much!
And Ambassador Nicholsarian D’Jelosvenn is one amazing male! At first, he might be a bit arrogant, uptight, cold and bossy. But Nicholas’ life hasn’t been easy and he’s had to fight for everything he has and has worked hard to achieve his status. Despite all that, this Tandroki warrior is an honorable, caring, kind, considerate, brave and fiercely protective male who I couldn’t help but absolutely adore!
I absolutely loved everything that happened between Jenna and Nicholas! Looking to right a wrong, Nicholsarian crashes (oops… did a minor miscalculation during landing) on K.R.S. Three where he first meets Lottie, who eagerly delivers cookies and milk daly, and then her mother. And he’s utterly smitten with Jenna the moment he sees her. I loved Jenna and Nicholas together! Their chemistry was fantastic right from the start and I loved every moment they spent together. And the intimate moments they shared were so full of passion and I couldn’t get enough! Even more, I absolutely adored the interactions between Nicholas and Lottie (honestly, this girl is the cutest!). Those three were absolutely perfect for each other and more than deserved to find love and happiness together!
Overall, the story is another fun, cozy, sweet, naughty and wonderful addition to the series!
I loved it!
These stories are really cute. I read the first one last Christmas and then this one this year. It also looks like there may be another one coming. If so I plan to read it.
Ambassador Nicholsarian D’Jelosvenn has found himself trapped on a backwater planet after a 'miscalculation' (he did not crash of course) and while waiting for his ship to repair itself he becomes aware that he is being watched. Lottie wants to impress the ‘Santa’ in the woods while her hard working mother thinks her imagination is getting away from her. It is not until Lottie goes missing one day that ‘Nicolas’ and Jenna finally meet. This is a great sequel to Honey Phillips “Krampus and the Crone” where another Tandroki warrior has crash landed on a primitive planet and finds his way to love and family (which is not the way of the Tantroki) around christmas. This sci-fi romance was super sweet with Nicolas being cold and uptight but inside just wanting to be loved, and the way he treated Lottie made me all fuzzy inside. I sympathised with Jenna as being a mother, let alone a single mother in a town that has fallen on hard times, is hard. This is only a short novel, so don’t expect a lot of development and depth but what is included makes this a sweet Christmas read worth the time - I personally really enjoyed the way in which the figure of Santa was used to tell a low-angst romantic read. If you love Christmas stories, aliens and found family you will enjoy this Honey Phillips story.
CHRISTmas is coming !!!!
What a lovely story for CHRISTmas !!! In this story we find Nicolasarien searching for Krampasarien ,( from the last book. Nicolas has had an unprecedented attack of conscience, and needs to find Krampas. Unfortunately, he has " miscalculated " his landing ( ie, crashed ) , and has been repairing his ship. Unfortunately, he had attracted the attention of a small person. She keeps leaving him offerings, and he had no idea WHY.......
Lottie can't believe that she found SANTA !!! Right here in the woods not far from her house !!! And she Knows its him , because he is dressed in Red, just like the story !!! She had brought him cookies and milk and Everything that her mom Jenna had told her about ......and since the longest night is coming soon , perhaps Santa will bring her what she wants most in the world.........
Jenna can't believe that her daughter thinks that the sad , eyed alien in the red suit is Santa from the children's story !!
But , as the three get to know each other, maybe Jenna and Nicholas have more in common then they think.....
I found this a delightfully easy , read that gets me in the mood for the holiday !!
3 stars - I liked it
When Ambassador Nicholsarian’s rival doesn’t return after he arranges a distraction, he decides to investigate, only to have his own ship crash on the primitive planet K.R.S. Three. He quickly finds himself distracted by a small child who isn’t afraid of his horns and keeps leaving him gifts of sweets.
This was another cute holiday romance. These alien men are adorable when they fall for someone. Nicholas has clawed his way up in rank by being ruthless and surviving. With Jenna he finally knows what kindness, love and acceptance is. She shows him that he doesn’t have to just survive anymore. I loved Nicholas’s reactions to Jenna’s daughter and to the sweets she kept offering him.
Jenna was a strong woman who had raised her daughter alone. I loved how kind she was and how accepting she was towards NIcholas. She doesn’t judge him for his ruthless past to survive. She just shows him that there are other ways of living now. I loved how she would make him lose control so easily.
Overall, this was another great holiday romance. I do hope she writes more of this series because I think this race needs more love and holiday cheer.
This sci-fi Christmas romance was short and sweet. The hero was delightfully cold and uptight on the outside while being so soft and squishy on the inside. The heroine was deeply sympathetic, and I really felt for her struggle trying to be a good mom and provide for her daughter when she and the whole town had fallen on hard times. There was a small amount of action and danger to add spice to a sweeter, slower paced romance. The world building of this regressed society after the crash of their colony ship generations ago was fascinating. There was a teaser near the end of this novel that there may be another book released in the series during the holiday season next year, so I like the fact that this is turning into a sci-fi holiday series. This novella left me with a warm, fuzzy feeling after I was done reading it, so I recommend this book to readers who are having a hard day or week. It is a delightful brain break.
Hot garbage. Honey Philips is so hot or miss.
This book sucks. Big miss.
The plot is so damn boring and Jenna is the worst mother ever. Lottie runs away and she loses her. When she finds her with a strange man she isn’t scared; instead she KNOWINGLY lets him drug them so they can heal. She leaves her daughter with him alone all the time and leaves her daughter to go on a wild side tangent quest (that didn’t advance the plot at all and added nothing - having the MMC battle a sea monster for “reasons”). And then when she told the MMC he could leave and she wouldn’t take her daughter with him to the stars he makes the decision alone to stay with them (without being invited) and Jenna is stoked and tells him she made the decision to be with him too (even though it meant her daughter would never be accepted and would be ostracized horribly). She was the shittiest mom ever.
So fucking dumb
No breakup. No cheating. No OMD/OWD. Baby in epilogue 1 year later.
I see I am in the minority here, but I really did not enjoy this book. I struggled to connect with the characters. I felt like everything happened so quickly that it didn't make sense to me. Their relationship felt rushed to me and didn't feel authentic. I also felt like a lot of things could have been expanded more, such as his former life, the other planet, etc. Instead, we received little snippets, which made me more curious than anything else.
The only redeeming quality was Lottie. I thought she was super cute, and it was cute to see her perception of Santa.
There were some moments between the main characters that were cute, but for the most part, it didn't feel authentic to me. This could be due to its short nature.
I love me a grinchy Santa. Especially one who is so stuffy he refuses to admit he crashed his spaceship. Nicholsarian is such a good character. He has a full background and depth and you can see so much when he has little cracks in his imperial attitude. Fortunately, Lottie and Jenna seem pretty good at not only cracking him, but seeing through to what is underneath. I love this book, it was fast and sweet and left me full of smiles. Also there's a pet 'squirrel' who doesn't love a cute woodland creature?
A Gift for Nicholas: A SciFi Alien Warrior Holiday Romance by Honey Phillips is another Christmas romance treat! This is a super sweet story that has a horned Santa, a sweet little girl and a hard-working mother all the ingredients for an engaging story. When Nicholsarian’s rival doesn’t return he goes on a journey to find Commander Kramusarian his spaceship crashes and the fun begins. Nicholas meets Lottie and her mother Jenna, and they are slowly on their way to the gift of becoming a family. This holiday romance has adventure, perfect spice plus we meet up with Krampus and family. This was an enjoyable read in time for the holiday season.
One of my favorite story genre is syfy romance that includes blended families and Honey Phillips is one of the best authors of it. In a follow up to Krampus and the Crone, which played on the German tradition's counterpart to Santa, we have Nicholas (or should we say Santa?), Jenna and Lottie. (Not a spoiler) Nicholas and Krampus have a history which brings Nicholas to end up in the same situation as Krampus. Jenna and Lottie are happy, but struggling and find hope in the Santa legend. These stories have heart and steam with a strong family connection which is right up my alley. On the must read list. Enjoy!
I'm working on a book list for me to read each Yule, and this is #4 on the list! I found it enjoyable, concise, and satisfactory. No rushing, decent exposition, and comfortably non-predictably predictable. I had enjoyed Phillips' The Krampus and the Crone. I had not expected a sequel, and I wasn't disappointed.
Horned Holidays Series - A Gift for Nicholas
I like to keep my reviews short & sweet so as to not give too much away. I adored how the story opens with Lottie sneaking around to get a look at who she believes to be "Santa." Then she starts leaving milk & cookies, but Nicholasarian "Nicholas" believes it to be poison. It all evolves from there with the help of a drone "squirrel" Nicholas creates to initially investigate Lottie & then her mother Jenna.
It's another enchanting Christmas story full of love, family & a sexy Tandroki warrior. I read the whole series after Christmas & honestly, these books can be enjoyed year round.
Swoon worthy story!
One of the sweetest things in the story is little Lottie with her innocence, joy, and desire for Santa to be real! Nicholsarian (Nicholas) certainly has a few aspects that are Santa-like, but that’s not at all the character of a Tandroki warrior. It’s amazing to see the changes that occur as he learns more about Lottie and her charming mother, Jenna. I can’t wait for you to read how their relationship develops! It is sweet, romantic and absolutely delightful. This is one Santa that does not deliver coals.
A Gift for Nicholas by Honey Phillips is a sweet and lovely Christmas time tale that adds a little alien twist to an expertly written, emotionally satisfying, spiced to perfection read. With likable characters populating the pages and complimenting the engaging narrative this story of love and faith keeps the reader invested in the stories outcome and turning the pages until the final perfect ending.
