A virus infects the world, altering human DNA. The Infected live at night, humans during the day. Each group avoids the other, as humans search for an area free of The Infected until an unlikely bond occurs between the two.
First off, I LOVE THE COVER! I have been indulging in my need for an apocalyptic fix and The Infected by Perry Prete was a great addition to my binging. The Infected is an original take on a zombie apocalypse.
John awakens, not even remembering his name, as one of The Infected.
We meet Carrie Jordan when she is alone. She is a badass. She does what is necessary to survive. I thought I knew where this was going, but….
The humans rule the day, the zombies the night. I knew John and Carrie would have to come together at some point, seeing they are the main characters, but I didn’t anticipate how. Perry Prete is not afraid to kill any of his characters off, so, even though I came to like a couple of others and thought they might join up with Carrie, it was not to be.
We do have all the grossness of zombies, attacking and eating most anything they can get their hands on. Even mice, fox, and other animals became zombified. One of the grossest moments to me, was when Perry Prete had a zombie with their lip ripped off, and as the zombie attacked another, they didn’t realize they were eating their own lip. LOL People travel miles alone, sometimes meeting up in small groups for the protection it offered. Big groups did the normal, used and abused others they considered beneath them and disposable. Of course, The Walking Dead came to mind and made visualizing Carrie’s dilemma easy.
I had many notes in my ereader, but because I was surprised by the ending, I didn’t want to share too much. I didn’t see it coming and I want you to enjoy finding out for yourself. The ending deserves a star of it’s own and I LOVED IT! I could see it playing out in my mind. I was sad, angry, may have even cheered when….I love an author who writes with such mastery that the book comes to life right before my eyes. If you are looking for some zombies that are a little bit different, The Infected by Perry Prete is a must read.

A new take on zombies. Humans are infected by a meteor striking earth. The book takes place 3 years after the event and mostly follows Carrie, and a few other human survivors. Ends on a cliffhanger.
I found the writing style to be a bit confusing at first: it doesn’t get better, you just get used to it. Paragraphs would alternate narration with no break or indication the narrator was changing.
Chapters are way too long. Broken up more and edited to rearrange some of the narrators sections would make for a better story line and make it more engaging.
The first 50% is very slow and not engaging. I almost DNF’d. The last 30% is pretty good, though I don’t think it makes up for the first chunk. Not sure how I feel about the ending. Overall the story, and mostly the writing style, are not enough for me to read any sequels.
Perry is a master at bringing turns and twists in his story to keep the reader engaged and wanting more. Just when you think you know what a character is going to do, he takes you in a different direction. I found I was sympathetic with the main character and am glad I live in a world that is free of such gruesome creatures.
I won this book from a giveaway.. I'm giving this book 3 stars because
1. This "zombie" story started with the viral infection being caused by a meteor alien virus instead of some man made lab experiment gone wrong or intentionally released which is completely different from anything zombie related
2. This story gives you POV of the infected not just the uninfected that was new to me as well
3. This had the makings of a great story but completely fell flat into the area of low good story for me
4. The zombies aren't really zombies they are more like aliens
It lost 2 stars from me because..
1. There was no definite separation of who was doing what when or where.. there was quite a few times I had to reread sections to realize that the author was not talking about what was happening any longer but had moved on but they were flowing together so you couldn't distinguish the difference.
2. New characters came in that didn't add anything to the story. They were just page fillers for no reason or characters came out of nowhere and you were like where did they come from.
3. The MFC needs work

A meteor hits the earth, landing in France. By the seventh day, the first report of one person had been infected and by the end of the year, 2 billion people died and 5 billion people were infected. It's day 915 and the story introduces John as an infected and Carrie as a survivor. The story is extremely descriptive and the only dialogue featured is Carrie's as the infected cannot speak. There are various characters' perspectives but the story predominantly follows Carrie's journey. John and Carrie learn to work together to survive, despite risking Carrie's life.

This was really great! I did really enjoy it! Good ideas, well done, interesting characters & a really great twist at the end! I didn't see it coming at all! Great! I will look for more by this writer as it was such an enjoyable read! I do recommend!
The book is about survival and losses. There is a strange twist to the story. It is more of unbelievable haunting that may or may not happen, I hope not.
This book was good, I like the end of the world trope. However the ending surprised me. I won't post any spoilers but I was hoping for a different outcome between the two main characters. Also what a cliffhanger.
Interesting premise and a good read on the whole. It needed a good copy edit and there were some plot lines that I felt could have been better developed. But on the whole , a good read.
