Really enjoyed most of this. The Wolverine/Venom graphic novel is arguably the weakest story so if you are only buying because of this I'd think twice, although there is some fun moments between the characters. Wolverine is somewhat out of sorts in the entire run, and the stories are more about his personal trials than any global conflict issues. Other cameos in the book feature Elektra and Stick from the Daredevil series which are great additions as they both help Logan through his problems. Excellent art throughout most of it, and if you have read the previous issues you can see how the art evolves throughout the 90s. The shadow society and path of the warlord graphic novels were both solid additions, I enjoyed them more than the venom one. Overall, recommended. Also recommend getting Elektra the Complete collection as that is also a continuation of her story, and Logan does feature in several issues which are also written by Larry Hama (Peter Milligan writes the early issues.)
Another substadard Larry Hama Wolverine story with the added tax of a nigh-unreadable storyarc by Howard Mackie.
There are several very talented artists in this book, and even the worst of the art (the Venom/Wolverine tale) is by someone with promise whose work was vibrant and had creative paneling, but it was also difficult to parse, partially because of the paneling and partially because Howard Mackie's writing just didn't jibe with the art.
If you're not a completists, and you're not either a massive Wolverine or a massive Venom fan, there is no reason to bother with this book.
This is largely the noseless devolved Wolverine after a failed attempt to regain adamantium in issue 100, teaming with Elektra for a few issues of what turned out to be a good Elektra book but a dull Wolverine book, then quickly lost her in favor of Japanese intrigue and an "image inducer" explanation as to why the artist is just drawing normal Wolverine now. Then a fun but less-coherent miniseries with Venom and two incomprehensible novellas. It's a fun part of the character's history, but I had forgotten that a lot of this era was falling apart and sacrificing story for bombast.
Boy there’s some real dreck in here. The main series issues aren’t too bad, though you get some of the worst of Larry Hama’s tics and it’s quite funny how quickly everyone forgets about Wolverine’s devolved, bestial form. But the mini-series and one-shots are hot garbage. The worst of 90s excess: impenetrable art that is all style over substance, stories that don’t bother explaining convoluted lore, Howard Mackie, symbiotes
