Meh. It was ok. I didn’t like how the MC H has no real agency, how he kept going deeper into the dungeon even knowing it was dangerous. I also think it’s slightly unfair that his buffs, while through hard work and pain, aren’t due to the actual abilities of his class being unlocked, so others with his class are still stuck being considered garbage in his society. I hope with his new powers he will make a guild or change the way society sees appraisers/commoners so they aren’t treated as less than everyone else anymore.

Glad the Deus ex Machina saved his life, I do like his character, but the DEM is now traveling WITH him, so all it does is literally save him without him doing much to save himself.

Also, it’s pretty brutal. He is attacked and loses body parts and there is blood and a LOT of almost dying, not what I am used to in my manga. I guess I go more for the love/drama manga rather than the action/adventure manga.

I really wasn’t fond of this one tbh. I tried something outside of my comfort zone and am running firmly back into it, lol.

2, not bad but not what I enjoy YMMV and that’s ok, stars.

I received this manga from Kodansha/Netgalley in exchange of an honest review.

Haha, I just couldn’t resist this long-ass title manga. I was very curious about this Appraiser class (sounds like a fun skill.. but not sure if you want it as your class) and how this guy got strong! Also cute girls on cover help. XD

Meet Ein (awesome name) who is from the Appraisal class and treated like shit. Then again, I did find it odd that he didn’t even had any fighting abilities or defending abilities. He was just sitting there and waiting for his party to be done. It was not really the right way for me to start to get to know this character. I don’t mind a bit more passive character, but I would like my characters at least be able to do something. Still, I felt sorry for him because his party members treat him like utter shit. Really, those two are the worst and we see just how bad they are later on in the first part. Holy crap. I get that Ein is pretty useless but that is still not the way to go.

Thankfully, Ein does get a second chance (and maybe even a third given what happens after that second chance). It was a bit gory how things went, to the point that I was just hoping that the manga wouldn’t all be about blood and losing ears too much. I loved that he got a new chance, not sure how he feels about it all the time given his instructor XD, but I am sure he is happy that he can prove himself and learn something useful and good. I found myself rooting for Ein to learn some new skills and get better. Get stronger, but also more confident. Because he also doesn’t have a lot of that.

I loved seeing the appraisal skill get more and more useful. From just being able to do some appraisal and see if there was loot to copying skills and being able to do them. Now I also want this form of appraisal. Give it to me! Well, minus the pain, because DANG that looks too painful.

I also loved the other characters, innocent and adorable World Tree spirit/however it was called Yuri. And then there is her “mom” the guardian of the tree. Two more different personalities cannot be found. I just love how supportive Yuri is and how sweet and cute and how she is always there for Ein… while Ursula is more the die-hard I will train you until you die type (with a vengeance) + she is a big love for Yuri and will do anything to make sure Ein isn’t doing anything unsavoury to her (though she even counts talking and getting a bit too close unsavoury, so um).

This manga is pretty much introductory to Ein, Yuri, and Ursula. The real adventures will start in the next manga. Now that Ein is powered up he is ready to face the world. I hope that things will go well for him. He deserves that after all the shit in the beginning and all the death training with Ursula.

The art was OK. At times I really loved it (Yuri’s design, the facial expressions by the characters (Ursula has some great ones), but at other times it just looked rushed and unfinished.

All in all, this was a pretty good, action-packed and full of fantasy, manga and I will keep an eye out for more of this series. Curious how things will go next.

An eye for detail

This series is not bad but it was not very exciting to read. The characters (at least the characters that I wouldn't mind becoming monster feces) are interesting enough but considering the beginning of the book is all about how an appraiser named Ein is abused due to his "useless" skill even though he works hard for what he needs. Certainly things get better and it is nice that being a nice guy things starting to improve for him once an accidental meeting changes his life and his ability. However now that Ein gets a training montage in his new abilities he is already showing he is stronger then many of the dangerous creatures in the dungeon he fell into thanks to his new all powerful eye.

Like in One Punch Man, Ein is now seemingly unstoppable. However unlike Saitama, Ein is not bored as of yet and the story will probably continue to show him defeating monsters though the story may pick up once he actually leaves the dungeon. That is the problem with some light novel adaptations when it usually takes 2 or sometimes three volumes to adapt one book meaning if you only read the first volume of the manga you might not get to aa really catchy part. Of course having never read it previously I have no idea what I may be missing by just reading the manga as I generally tend to do with a few exceptions. All in all it was an okay story and although I am curious if Ein ever decides to use his abilities to help people less fortunate like he was in the beginning I am not so curious to check out volume two. There are other manga which I have enjoyed way more even with just the first volume so this one will have to sit in the perpetual backburner until the future if ever when I get to it.

First and foremost, I'd like to express my gratitude to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for providing me with an e-ARC of this manga.

I was reminded of The Girl, The Shovel, and the Evil Eye Vol. 1 by this manga. The conception of the world, the citizens' ranking, and the power that each rank possesses. Aside from that, I like the main character's growth by the end of the manga. The way he fought back in force.

I tend to stay away from manga with a male protagonist, but this one was better than most with the characters being less fixated on teenage male nonsense. (Boobs and innuendo)
Ein has a good heart and Yuri is sweet, though she needs a bit more character development.

I love manga and was glad I was able to read this ARC! I love fantasy stories a lot so I was excited to start reading. So without further ado, I shall dive into this review.

The story is set in a fantasy world with classes and skills that are individually given to people born in the world by a goddess of light and goddess of darkness respectively. Ein, who holds the class of appraiser, is considered useless by his party members. We see how he is treated terribly by his party members and how they cowardly abandon him to monsters. Ein is able to somehow get away and the story unfurls from there.

Okay...this was so much better than I was expecting. The main character is funny but determined to succeed. The way classes and skills work in this world I found interesting as it's different from the other similar manga I've read. I like how the main character doesn't become OP the minute he steps foot in a dungeon and that it is a gradual process. The lore is cool too, and I can't wait to see more characters from different classes.

Ursula, though. Hands down best character. I love all her expressions and her attitude and that she's begrudgingly starting to warm to Ein ( I doubt she'll ever like him though XD). Yuri is nice too, but I don't like her as much as Ursula as I don't find her character that interesting.

Overall, I thought it was cute and entertaining and can't wait to see more of the characters' journey.

I'd definitely recommend this to someone who wants to see a different take on an overpowered main character.

Much thanks to Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for sending me this eARC to read and review!

I received a copy of this manga through NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.

It was quite interesting. Yet another story about a computer gameish world where people are born into classes they can't escape, with skills and abilities they can gain over time but only according to their class. Our main hero has had the misfortune to have the lowest of classes - he's an appraiser and is bullied by anyone with a higher class. 🙄
The story of Ein's adventure starts of pretty gorily but has some cuter and funnier moments as well (Yuri and Ursula!!!) 😊

Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser"
Class, I'm Actually the Strongest
is a manga featuring an OP hero in a world where class determines your power, and you can't escape nor change it.

This is just the first volume, but I gotta say I'm really impressed! I've always been into the Overpowered-main-character trope (eg. One Punch Man), and I enjoyed this one just as much.

For the next volumes, here's what I'm expecting:
1. More discussion on classism
2. Let's meet more of the outside world! Politics! Adventure! Badass fight scenes!
3. If this isn't going for a war arc by the end, atleast I'm hoping it would focus more on slice-of-life themes rather than the romance.

I really hope this gets an anime adaptation, because it'd be great and it's what it deserves!

Thanks to Kodansha Comics through Netgalley for my reviewer copy. Rest assured, this does not affect my review as it completely honest.

Adding my latest manga read to the list of novels with insanely long titles: Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest Vol. 1. This quirky title and cover were enough to make me curious about the world – and the impossibly strong hero.

Ein was born into a world where everyone is divided into different classes and cannot be changed. He was born an appraiser, which is is one of the lowest rungs available. It is far below his dream of being a hero.

Yet it is because of his abilities, Ein finds himself in a unique opportunity to gain power. Well, his abilities and his compassion. These two traits have set him on a path for something more; the question is, what will he do with it?

Not only does this series seem to promise a humorous plot, but also a rags to hero sort of tale. So, naturally, I went into Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest Vol. 1 with fairly high hopes.

Honestly, I almost feel like I should withhold commenting until I've read the second or possibly even third volume. It feels like most of Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest Vol. 1 is focused on setting up the character, his story, and how he gained his power.

I can't honestly say how the story will move forward from here. I'd like to think that Ein will become the hero he dreamed of. I can't imagine he'll do any worse than the two he was following around. But power can do weird things to people, so who knows?

I will say that there is a significant leap in power for Ein's character. Since the volume spends almost the entire time setting this up, it isn't exactly a sudden change. But it is significant. I honestly would have expected this sort of increase to happen throughout many volumes, so again, I'm not sure where it will lead from here.

All things said and done; I would say that Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest Vol. 1 was an interesting and entertaining read. It wasn't my favorite introduction to the series, but then again, some of my favorites took a while to grow on me.

Thanks to Kodansha Comics and #NetGalley for making this book available for review. All opinions expressed are my own.

Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest is one of those series with annoyingly long names. Also, it's fantasy, so I kind of knew what I got when I started with this. Ein lives in a fantasy world, where everyone has their assigned jobs and you cannot change yours. Ein is an appraiser, the lowest rank and his job is to check the info of whatever he is checking ("info box man"). His team ditches him in the dungeon and Ein accepts death only to notice that he hasn't died and someone has healed him. Enter World Tree and it's spirit Yuri. Ein gets powers from Yuri and her "mom" and soon starts his own adventures, and then this feels all the more familiar. So, nothing totally new, but I liked the relationships between the characters and how this was built. I hope the series stays like this and not Ein becoming dull by having too much power.

Well, the art looks nice, although I'm not fan of Yuri's breasts and how there are harem elements in this. Genre-wise this is same old, same old. Ibarakino needs to drown this with refreshing new ideas to get this stand out, but I do see the potential. So, hopefully not your basic shounen. It all depends what happens next, since this first part was just Ein getting powers and training. A very tightly packed first book if you ask me.

Thank you Kodansha Comics and Netgalley for providing me with a digital copy of this book in exchange for an honest review.
I really enjoyed this story and character dynamic. The story itself isn’t completely original. I’m getting Arifureta vibes with the MC being extremely overpowered and being able to take abilities from defeated enemies. Plus a pinch of Mushoku Tensei with the OP eye transplant. Volume one shows the fall and rise of our protagonist Ein who was born an appraiser. In this world that is a basic class and people with it are often looked down upon by those with more useful beneficial classes such as warrior or mage. Ein isn’t letting that keep him down as he strikes it out on his own to make a name for himself as an adventurer. Trash Picker wasn’t the notorious title he was after but everyone has to start somewhere. Betrayal and a near death experience lands Ein at the roots of a magical tree that saves his life. With the help of this trees spirit Yuri and it’s guardian Ursula Ein is provided with the support and knowledge to become stronger so he can return to his normal life, but after this experience will his life ever be “normal”? Let’s keep reading to find out. I look forward to the next volume and plan on continuing to read this series as it releases.

Thank you Netgalley for this review copy.

Even Given the Worthless "Appraiser" Class, I'm Actually the Strongest turned out better than expected. In the last year or so I’ve basically been reading through nearly every manga that appears for review and sometimes I think gems in genres I wouldn’t normally pick and sometimes I don’t take to the stories.

The video-game-is-fantasy-real premise (I’m sure there is a better word for it) is not something I’ve read before this year and while it probably isn’t my go-to genre I enjoyed this. It did take me until the third chapter though, but I think this book sets everything up well. Neither the characters or art are my favourite but as an enjoyable guest fantasy this works for me. I do want to see how this story progresses in the next volume.

Omg, I just finished it and I loved it!

"Even given the worthless "appraiser" Class, I'm actually the strongest" follow a young lad at the end of the social food chain. When abandoned by his team and left for dead, he discovers one of the rarest items in the world and ends up being taught magic by a sage (a very sadist one mind you).

That manga is definitely not intended for the faint of heart as there are a lot of gory scenes. However, the mangaka managed to make it funny, with the presence of the sage. Yuri is the cutest. This first volume is a good training montage and an amazing introduction to the characters and the world they live in.

I cannot wait to read the second volume as the first book left us on quite the cliffhanger.

All in all, I've rated that book 4/5 stars. As while I found it very entertaining, not much happens besides the training.

Introductory but grabbing

Key words: manga, shonen, adventure, action, fantasy

This was quite a nice read. As you might guess from this super long title, this manga is based on a light novel, which I kind of want to read now. The art is cute, especially when it comes to Yuri.

Now, this first volume is very much an introduction as to how this appraiser character, Ein, came to become the strongest. It was intense and grabbing. I wonder what will happen next. I found the Ein’s evolution to happen quite quickly, sometimes I was wondering where the effort was, but let’s not forget it takes place over a month or so. Ein is quite funny and I loved Yuri and her mum.

I recommend to people who enjoy shonen that is action-packed

3.5/5

Thank you Netgalley and Kodansha Comics for the opportunity to read and review this.

In a fantasy world where jobs are given from birth, where heroes are born, not made, our main hero, Ein's job as an "Appraiser" has put in far below the status of hero. Abused and abandoned by his fellow adventurers, Ein decides it isn't worth going on. But by pure luck, he is saved, and thus begins his new life, and his power is shown to be more than he thought it'd be.

Adventure mixed with comedy, I really enjoyed this read, and look forward to the next volume to not only see him grow, but also to see him continue with his adventure to meet new friends, and show those who turned his back on him, that instead of heroes being born, heroes can be made.

Such a good manga, I absolutely loved reading it and can't wait for more in this series. In the world Ein was born into he was immediately declared useless. He is considered useless because the moment you are born the goddess of light and dark grant you a class and a skill and unfortunately Ein was born an Appraiser which is the considered the lowest of the low. But when his comrades abandon him to save themselves within the dungeon they're working in, Ein is greatly injured in but his life is saved when he finds a magical tree that saves his life and heals him. But when his simple act of kindness by thanking the tree moves the trees spirit Ein finds himself with new powers that might just bring him up in the world...

This is your manga where your class is already predetermined since birth. Our protagonist is in the Appraiser class which is a weak one. Due to certain events, he went OP.

Now a character, Yuri, was a bit sexualized in this manga (like most manga of this type does). It's not implicated heavily though compared to others but relying on something like this to entice readers will just have negative views on it.

This is still an enjoyable manga (but I did like the first few chapters more compared to the latter). If you like fantasy and a cute female character, this is for you.

Special thanks to NetGalley, Ibarakino, Morohoshi Fuji, Yu Hitaki, and Kodansha Comics for an e-ARC.

Thank you NetGalley for allowing me to read a digital sample of this book in exchange for a review. All opinions are my own.

An interesting manga about a world where people are born with their class and abilities already set. Ein, the main character, is an Appraiser. Appraisers are considered a common class and he is seen as weak by most people. Ein is about ready to give up on life, but after a fate encounter he is ready and equipped to give adventuring another shot. The story is engaging and I'm interested in seeing what the next volume brings.

Thanks to Netgalley for this arc
I always like rooting for the underdog who gets stronger, but this seemed a bit too much. Not just because Ein became pretty much invincible throughout this ONE volume, but also because he didn't figure anything out himself. Everything was given to him by some super strong magical creatures, because he said 'thank you' to a tree that saved him. It's just not very satisfying when everything is handed to the hero without any effort, y'know?

Ein is an appraiser and part of the command class. When he is betrayed by his fellow adventurers and left for dead, he thinks that he came to his end! He wishes that he tried harder and made something of his self! He is stunned when he wakes up after his fall to be healed and perfectly fine! He realizes that he woke beside a World Tree and thanks it for saving him! Who is Yuri and Ursula? Will he make it out this dangerous dungeon?

Thank you Netgalley and publisher. I love this manga and i can't wait for another volume of this manga! Ein, the mc, is born as an appraiser. He is worthless and being used by his fellow adventurers. Overall, i love the manga style. The drawing is beautiful! The storyline is good too. I want the volume 2!

It is a pretty standard dungioneering manga with a lot of fights, a lot of monsters, and the hero getting beat up a lot, but the character design is nice (feels very CLAMP-inspired) and Yuri is adorable.
