Forget Me Not, Elizabeth

Rate this book

Can the heart remember what the mind cannot recall?

Elizabeth Bennet's Happily-Ever-After is shattered when calamity strikes on her wedding day. Unable to remember the man she promised to marry, Elizabeth soon comes to appreciate that Mr. Darcy is the best ally she could have when a series of disasters put her life in peril.

After one failed proposal, Fitzwilliam Darcy is finally confident that Elizabeth returns his love … until she shows up for their marriage ceremony with no memory of him.  Proving his constancy, Darcy sets about courting his betrothed, determined to win her heart — again — but his wooing is interrupted when a mysterious malefactor conspires to keep them apart for good.

Working together, the amnesia-struck bride and her disgruntled groom discover an attachment more profound than the love stolen from them. But will they catch the murderous thief before it is too late?

If you can't get enough of Mr. Darcy and Miss Elizabeth, then you'll love this thrilling post-canon, sweet romance based on Jane Austen's timeless classic, Pride and Prejudice.

Forget Me Not, Elizabeth is the 4th book in the Mysteries & Matrimony series of standalone novels.

This sequel to Pride and Prejudice is an exceptionally well-wrought mixture of romance, escapes from life-threatening situations, and mystery.

Elizabeth and Mr. Bennet, on the way to the church for her wedding to Mr. Darcy, are victims of a carriage accident. While her father escapes without any injury, Elizabeth hits her head hard and is briefly unconscious, leading to partial amnesia. She remembers everyone and everything in her life...with the notable exception of her husband-to-be.

No one is more distressed at this than Mrs. Bennet, who tries to insist the wedding go on anyway despite her daughter's understandable reluctance to wed a total stranger. Elizabeth's first indication that Darcy may be a man she can trust comes when he reassures her they will only marry when she's ready and that he will never, ever forsake her.

The reader is introduced early to a villain with murderous intent. Soon after, it's revealed that the Bennet carriage had been sabotaged before the planned wedding. A second villain emerges and plots to have Elizabeth committed to Bedlam. It seems she's surrounded by schemers, and Darcy fears she's targeted only because of him.

The story has so many marvelous elements. The era's lack of medical understanding regarding head injuries gets lots of page space, with Darcy frantically searching for the right treatment to bring his beloved Lizzy back. One school of thought insists her mental capacity will diminish if she doesn't recover all her memories within hours. In a humorous subplot, a machine that electrically stimulates the brain elicits surprising results.

There are additional murder attempts and various discussions regarding tracking down the would-be killer. Interestingly, these serve to demonstrate there's nothing wrong with Elizabeth's analytical abilities.

And the romance -- ooh, la, la! Elizabeth's mind may not remember Darcy, but her body certainly does. Without any explicit sexual content, Ms. Joy shows Elizabeth craving this man's touch despite how unfamiliar his face is. Darcy, meanwhile, is in torment every time she looks at him blankly, and he does his best to hold back his ardor as he courts her anew.

All the characters are developed as Jane Austen might have. Lydia returns to Longbourn, pregnant and hungry, boasting about her wonderful, thoughtful husband. Mrs. Bennet wavers like a high-speed see-saw between despair over Elizabeth's stubbornness, joy over Jane and Mr. Bingley's successful wedding, and delight that her youngest daughter is home for her to spoil. Miss Bingley visits Longbourn with faux sympathy for Eliza's unfortunate condition. Mr. Collins is like a pesky mosquito that won't go away. Lady Catherine, predictably, finds this the perfect opportunity to pressure Darcy once again to marry her daughter Anne. While Anne isn't brave enough to openly defy Lady C, she's appalled at her mother's callousness.

The final pages show this story to be more of a mystery than it first appears. It's a clever plot that seamlessly weaves all the storylines, and it even has a nice nod to the resolution in JA's novel - Lady Catherine DOES manage to be unintentionally useful.

Storytelling at its best!

I also received an ARC of this story with no strings attached. I have read and greatly enjoyed all of this author's stories.

It's Jane's and Elizabeth's wedding day. Due to overcrowding the Bennet carriage makes a second trip to pick up and deliver Elizabeth and her father to the church. The axle breaks; Elizabeth is knocked unconscious. Oddly, when she awakens she has partial amnesia - remembering everything but her bridegroom or any history with him. Jane's wedding goes on as planned but Darcy refuses to push Elizabeth to wed that day. He wants her fully there, mentally and physically, for the service. As the story goes on and she doesn't recover her memory he vows to woe her all over again.

However, events get in the way of actual wooing. The couple is rarely alone. First there is the fact that Wickham has "dumped" his pregnant wife at Longbourn while the wedding was going on and left. Secondly Lady Catherine has shown up during the ceremony, objected and when she learns the circumstances sees a perfect opportunity to get Elizabeth permanently out of the way. She sends for a physician to examine Elizabeth and declare her fit for Bedlam! (Much page space is given as to how that could happen in those times.) Various medical men are consulted about Elizabeth's condition and whether it can be cured and how to do so. One man has a machine which gives shocks to the brain. Darcy tries this out to determine its safety before even considering it for Elizabeth. Laughably: Lydia and Mrs. Bennet benefit from its euphoric properties.

Another thread tells of Mr. Bennet's interest in bees and how he is experimenting with extracting the honey. A bees' nest is thrown through a bedroom window one night and the fact is that multiple stings could or would have killed the person sleeping within. However the question arises as to who was actually sleeping there vs who might have been thought to be sleeping there. Is there more then one crime going on or is one person for some reason being targeted in multiple ways?

Throughout all this every time Darcy comes into Elizabeth's presence or she into his presence he looks to see if that light of love sparks in her eyes. She finds herself drawn to him and wondering what a kiss or caress would feel like - is her body remembering what her mind has forgotten?

This story has some clever and not obvious twists in solving what is going on. There are some clues which turn out to lead nowhere. Or maybe you are more clever than I am.

I found this to be one of those stories which draw you in and keep you turning pages. I recommend this: romance and mystery = a favorite.

"...was it possible to forget someone you truly loved?" (quote from the book)

So close yet so far...Elizabeth Bennet is injured on her wedding day and loses her memory of Fitzwilliam Darcy. What is the poor man to do? Stand by her, of course, and help her to regain her memory and woo her all over again. But the road to matrimony is littered with obstructions from several fronts. They have to determine who wishes to keep them apart!

"...amnesia is one step away from insanity." (quote from the book)

So sharpen your sleuthing skills as this is a clever mystery. Be prepared for some 'mind boggling' diagnosis and remedies of early 19th Century medicine that will have you being thankful for living in the 21st Century. All our favourite villains are lurking around but are they responsible for what has happened to Elizabeth? And why are they so determined?

"Elizabeth did not understand how her heart remembered what her mind held under lock and key." (quote from the book)

There are definite surprises in store as you fly through this novel...I could not put it down! There is a wonderful side story within this tale that had me cheering. Several young ladies will surprise you with their quiet strength and Miss Bingley is cut off at the knees!

"Jane's gentle voice cut through the tension as sharply as a saber." (quote from the book)

But most of all, I loved this Darcy. His faith in and love for Elizabeth was all we would expect from the man. Though he was close to breaking at times, he was always there for his loveliest Elizabeth.

"Because I love her enough for both of us. Because if she does not, I would feel her loss like a death. Because I refuse to give up on her while there is yet hope. And I will always hope for Elizabeth." (quote from the book)

Ms Joy's ability to write an intriguing mystery will always have me coming back. And I can highly recommend this latest one!

The series ends with another fabulous stand-alone JAFF suspense/thriller/romance that I absolutely adored. Jennifer Joy definitely has a special touch with this subgenre of the Regency romance novel. In this case, Elizabeth must fall in love with Darcy anew--not a big challenge! But others get in the way, and that's where the suspense happens!

I write technical reviews, so minimum on the subjective comments and no synopsis.

- The plot is a variation of the amnesia story, but with an excellent suspense twist to it. The story is complete with no real straggling holes left for the reader to wonder about.
- Pace is smooth and rapid, with no room for settling down. You won't find yourself bored reading this book. No redundancies, no side plots--at least not where they don't support the story arc.
- The story uses a "show" style and seems devoid of lapses into telling.
- Point of view is third person multiple, with clear changes.
- Language is a good, readable Regency language devoid of any big words one has to look up. Six non-Regency words or phrases, an average for a JAFF novel, were found. Two non-British words or phrases were utilized. My pet peeve non-canon word and phrase "hedgerows" and "break his fast" were used. A modern expression regarding giving the character "some space" was used. Chaperone, the verb form, was used where chaperon, the noun form should have been seen.
- Non-Regency use of the expression "Aunt Catherine" took place of the proper "Lady Catherine." The word "confinement" was used to describe a pregnancy when it actually meant the time of giving birth and shortly after in the Regency.
- Vibrant expression of the senses helped to set the scene in descriptions of the setting, clothing, props, etc.
- Characters were close to canon, with a more evil Wickham and Lady Catherine. I loved how the author brought out Darcy's sensitivity in his wooing of Elizabeth. It was bang on how Austen wrote him. New characters rounded out the story well.
- The romance was lovely, and its pacing was appropriate to the amnesia. Darcy's determination was sweet to read, combined with Elizabeth's passion and longing, precursors to her falling in love again.
- I love covers with big skirts, and this one has that look. Unfortunately, this model looks like she's wearing polyester rather than silk, a commonality she shares with 100 other Regency romance cover models. The balance, colouring, scale, and fonts are all good on this cover. Although I'm not sure it's different enough from the others to entice the reader completely over more unique covers, it's pretty. Perhaps the addition of something to tie into the title and the amnesia theme might make it more unique.
- I suspect the author was taking a little free reign with the initial use of some technology in the story, but didn't spend a lot of time looking it up in detail. What I found showed the technology was legitimate for the Regency, and that was good enough for me.

This ingenious application of a loss of memory to a sinister plot in a well-spun tale during the Regency era is without a doubt bound to gratify any reader of JAFF, but particularly those who enjoy a suspense or mystery twist to their romance. I found it gripping and I could hardly wait until my standard reading time (bedtime) to get back to the book. I read it quickly and was sad to be done with the four-book series of stand-alone romance/mystery books (Mysteries and Matrimony) from Jennifer Joy. I'll seek out more of this type of book, as well as standard JAFF, from her pen.

Disclaimer: I'm a JAFF author, and some might say that this review is a conflict of interest. However, I was a reader first, and my reviews are honest and impartial. I write them for the benefit of both the reader and the author.

I am a fan of Jennifer Joy's books. Her writing flows and usually her banter between ODC is so much fun! However, that was missing in this book, understandably considering the serious topics touched on in this book.

Elizabeth looses all memory of Darcy and a big bad is hiding in the shadows, ready to do anything to separate them. Mental illness in the regency era was not a picnic and Elizabeth may be in very real danger.
While Jane has a very small role here, we get to know Anne who finds her voice and power and maybe something else?
Lydia shows up as Lydia as ever, or is she. Has Wickham been a good husband to her or is she hiding something too?
Abuse, a scientific machine for experimentation and a new eclectic character too. A very clever puzzle which our author successfully finds elegant ways to fit all the pieces together.
I give this enjoyable read 4.5* as despite Darcy's good intentions, we never do get to see him woo Elizabeth, or at least not enough. ;)
Definitely worth a read, does not disappoint.

A story that was full of smoke and mirrors. Watch those clues!

Rating: clean: mature-reader due to adult themes described: trigger warning due to discussions of spousal abuse, attempted murder, threats, and angst-filled moments. Angst Level: medium: Source: borrowed KU 4-11-21: This review may contain *** spoilers ***

First and foremost, I love this author and her work. However, I did not love this story. I struggled through the first half and fortunately, the last half of the story kept me turning the pages. Maybe I was in a mood or something. This selective amnesia just didn’t sit well with me. I did not like it and wasn’t too crazy about Elizabeth’s character. There were a lot of surprises in this story and I did enjoy that. In fact, I especially enjoyed Anne de Bourgh’s part in this mystery. Oh, she was so delightful.

Watch those clues: I tried to follow the clues and I missed them completely. The big reveal was an absolute shocker and I didn’t see it coming. The villains were a surprise and I didn’t see that either. Apparently, I was blind as a bat in regard to the trail of bread crumbs left by our sneaky author. It was rather shocking and I felt compelled to turn back to the first and read parts of it again just to see if I missed something. It was all smoke and mirrors and I still missed it. Just saying.

The flower is the poetry of reproduction … of the eternal seductiveness of life. ~ Jean Giraudoux

Is it possible that Fitzwilliam Darcy had these words in mind when he chose a wedding ring for his beloved Elizabeth Bennet? No, since Giraudoux lived long after the events in our story. But Darcy may have had a similar poetic bent to his soul.

Quote from the book: Five glistening red gemstones, shaped into a forget-me-not encased with gold stretching around the band symbolized everything he had already promised in his heart to give Elizabeth: faithfulness, dependability, constancy, love, his very self.

Darcy and Bingley await their brides in the church. Eventually, a commotion at the back of the church indicates some of the Bennets have arrived — but not Elizabeth and not Mr. Bennet. The family had divided into two groups to better fit in the carriage. When the father and daughter come to the church, it is with the news of an accident. An axle was broken and Elizabeth was injured. She has a very selective case of amnesia — she remembers everything and everyone in her life except her betrothed and the convoluted story of her relationship with him. One wedding proceeds and one is postponed.

With a forget-me-not ring still in his pocket, Fitzwilliam Darcy has been forgotten!

When the family returns to Longbourn for the wedding breakfast, another surprise awaits them: George Wickham has returned Lydia for a visit of an indeterminate length. Wickham has already left the area to journey back to his military duties. Or has he?

The lovely flowers embarrass me,
They make me regret I am not a bee –
~ Emily Dickinson, 1864

Mr. Bennet has recently become interested in beekeeping and is studying a new design for a man-made hive that will not require killing his bees to harvest honey. He has a wild swarm in mind to move into his care soon.

How can a second attempt on Elizabeth’s life come from her father’s beloved insects?

Lady Catherine de Bourgh is in Meryton intending to stop the Bennet/Darcy wedding at any cost. Lady Catherine has heard that madness often accompanies amnesia. Bedlam awaits those deemed mad. Her daughter has been forced to accompany her. Does Anne share her mother’s goal?

Mrs. Bennet is very proud to have recently added a footman to the household staff. But how can the footman be quite so incompetent? And how did he arrive at the Bennets?

I loved this Jane Bingley who takes no guff, no-how, no-way!

Eventually, we will learn of a flower that is slightly more sinister: Belladonna!

Jennifer Joy has provided a well-crafted mystery with evil-doers aplenty and evil that is not always what it appears to be. I loved it!

The author gave me an ARC of this book with no promise of a review, good or bad.

I received an ARC of this story with no strings attached.

The story starts on an extra special day we meet Elizabeth Bennet and Fitzwilliam Darcy who are longing for their wedding. Their impatience and emotion ring true, but the perfect day was not to be. An accident on the way to the church causes Elizabeth to have selective amnesia. The only thing she can't remember is anything related to Darcy.

So many things must come together for our dear couple to find their happily ever after. They must determine who is involved in all the recent disturbances while also learning all they can about how the mind works.

The author weaves wonderful characters, strong emotions, a mystery, and regency medical information into this delightful story. I can't wait to read it again.

Memory Loss and a Mystery
Another very satisfying read from Jennifer Joy. Elizabeth is on her way to the church to marry Darcy when the unthinkable happens. There is a carriage accident and she suffers a head injury resulting in loss of memory—but only one memory is lost. She doesn’t remember Darcy. Thankfully, she doesn’t reject him outright, as she tries to recall her past with him. He stays by her side, and is set on finding the right treatment for her. Meanwhile, there is a mystery afoot. Did someone tamper with the carriage? All the possible suspects are considered.

The story is nicely developed and researched with respect to the treatment of memory loss along with related technology of the day. One can be thankful of living in the 21st century when reading about François Bichat’s Law of Symmetry. Yikes! Hard hat anyone?

Anyway, great book. I enjoyed all the Bennets in this one. The mystery takes some separate turns at times with multiple suspects, but I was tickled I figured it out early. Unusual for me.

Highly recommend!

In this story, Elizabeth has a strange form of amnesia after a carriage accident. She is engaged to marry Darcy but she's forgotten him and her own engagement. However, she remembers that Jane is about to marry Bingley and she remembers people that she met at the same time or after meeting Darcy, eg. Colonel Fitzwilliam. It's just this one man that she loves that she can't remember. There are fears that she might be committed to Bedlam, and fears that the carriage accident was an attempt upon her life. It was an interesting suspenseful plotline but I never got a satisfactory explanation why she forgot Darcy so selectively and I am a bloodthirsty reader and thought the villain(s) got off a bit too easily.

Elizabeth gets a head injury, which causes amnesia. Strangely, the only person she forgets is Darcy. Distressing for Darcy. Doubly so, as she was on her way to their wedding, when she lost her memory.
Despite his anguish, Darcy does everything possible to help and support Elizabeth. This is Darcy at his adorable best.
Add in an attempted murder to solve and some scary insights into Regency mental healthcare. With several suspects from our usual cast of characters and some delightful new heroes.
Compelling and entertaining.

Painful beginning turns happy

I felt so bad for Darcy. Yet another obstacle in his bid for Elizabeth's heart! How can he stand it? I live the treatment of Collins and Wickham, the cure for Mrs. Bennet, the steadfastness of Darcy, Lizzy's calm in the face of it all, and her cleverness and humility.

I liked the romance in this book as it is an opportunity for Darcy and Elizabeth to fall in love all over again. Darcy shows himself to be devoted to Elizabeth and Elizabeth wonders why her heart can remember what her brain cannot. She loves him.

I loved Anne in this one. Not very often she gets to have a voice. Her characterization in this one leads us to believe that she will get stronger and more capable in her future. Love that. (Also, I love Anne's book in the cousins series for this reason. Anne gets a backbone and it is awesome.)

I have questions about accuracy in some legalities in this book but I'm too lazy to research them so I'm choosing to let them go. I wonder about the machine they used that would create such euphoria. I'm not familiar with it and would love to know what it is, but again, too lazy to research.

As any sane person of our time would be, I was appalled by the thinking of the era about brain trauma as well as mental illness. While I love reading regency era books, I'm sure glad I didn't live then.

I didn't love the mystery as much as the romance but I read it for the romance so I guess that works out fine for me. There was a lovely twist in the end that I didn't see coming but also the resolve didn't fully mesh for me with a chapter early on in the book. One of those, "if ____ did ____ why did ____ think about ______?" moments. I went back to reread that part but it still was confusing to me.

Overall, excepting reading about the harsh realities of mental illness in this time period which like I said before is appalling, this is an enjoyable read. I like Ms. Joy's writing style. I always have from the first one of her books I read. Cousins series still my favorite though.

Entertaining

Elizabeth and her father are riding in a carriage, heading for the Longbourn church on her wedding day, when there is a carriage accident that turns out to be sabotage. Elizabeth is rendered unconscious, and when she awakens, she remembers everything except Mr Darcy and her relationship with him. Thus, her wedding is cancelled, she has to try and recover her memories, and she tries to investigate the apparent attempt on her life. Darcy is, of course, going to stick around and help her.

At the same time, Wickham is making trouble, Mr Collins is mysteriously skulking around, and Lady Catherine shows up with her objections to Darcy getting married. There's a lot of very strange activities going on around Longbourn, involving honey bees, contraptions to stimulate the mind, tonics that are supposed to make you calm, and doctors that will gleefully throw you into Bedlam.

As a result, a fair portion of the story is very sinister in tone, and somewhat depressing. The villains in this story are seriously bad, instead of the usual annoying but ineffectual ones. It kind of casts a pall on everything.

Thankfully, there's some nice romance between Elizabeth and Darcy to lighten things up a little. I deducted stars for a couple of reasons. One is the confusing writing in the beginning of the book. In some places, ideas were conveyed in confusing ways, or the wrong names were used. The other reason was the ending, where Elizabeth ties everything up just a bit too easily and conveniently.

This is not great literature, but it's a pleasant way to pass a few hours. I recommend it with reservations.

I loved it!

It was so enticing that I couldn’t put it down, this book grabbed my interest from the very first page. I couldn’t put it down, I had to know what happened next. Normally I don't like plots involving amnesia, so I ignored this book when it came out. I finally decided to read it, and I'm so glad! What a great book! So many things happening, and yet it all made sense and came together in the end.

An accident on the way to the church for the double wedding of Jane & Bingley and Elizabeth & Darcy causes Lizzy to forget Mr. Darcy! He handles it well, agreeing that she should not be forced into a marriage with someone she can't remember! I loved this Darcy so much, he stood by Elizabeth, helping her and her family, trying (in spite of many disruptions) to woo her again.

I enjoyed the start of the book but I admit that around 50%, I was getting annoyed at how the so-called expert doctors all said that if she didn't regain her memories right away, that insanity would surely follow. What claptrap! Then a few other things happened to distract from all that and I loved it from then on out!

The dialogue and descriptions are great. In spite of bad things happening, there is also plenty of humor in it too. The characterizations were great: angry and vindictive Lady Catherine, icky Mr. Collins, selfish and spoilt Lydia, viperous Miss Bingley, loyal and loving Mr. Darcy, clever but confused Lizzy. Jane grows a backbone against Miss Bingley's nastiness, and Charles supports her 100%. Mr. Bennet isn't too bad either, and his university doctor friend was a great addition. Anne de Bourgh helping Darcy & Elizabeth and finally getting a happy-ever-after was a sweet touch.

I highly recommend this book!

Between 3-3.5. Overall, I enjoyed this story. When Elizabeth suffers a blow to the head, her wedding to Darcy has to be postponed and there is mystery and suspicion abounding. Darcy is admirably patient and honorable throughout the uncertainty. It was enjoyable to see Elizabeth begin to recognize that her feelings remain and that her heart still loves and longs for Darcy even if her mind has forgotten him. It was very sweet and I enjoyed the chemistry. It is a hard sell that Elizabeth would remember absolutely everyone and everything except Darcy. The fact that she remembered the Bingleys, Mr. Collins, Lady Catherine and even Colonel Fitzwilliam, which were all people she only knew when they were with Darcy, pushed plausibility a bit too hard for my taste as well as a couple of characters that were a little over the top, but I was thoroughly amused by the machine sent by Darcy's doctor and got a good laugh out of that. This was a pleasant read.

Accident, Selective Memory Loss and attempted murder

I read and listened to this Jennifer Joy book quite some time ago and realized it’s another one that I hadn’t done a review on, so back to reading and listening to it again. There were several things that I had forgotten, but other ones that I easily remembered (bee hive) thus it was fun to revisit this story.

I love this narration by Stevie Zimmerman as I am able to disconnect from everything and just focus on the story.

In this mystery/romance book, we have to pay attention to the clues to determine if these are true accidents or attempted murder. In this post canon story, Elizabeth is involved in an accident the morning of her wedding and she loses her memory most importantly anything related to Darcy. Darcy remains steadfast in his commitment to her and making her fall in love with him again. So for those who enjoy a romance with mystery thrown in, you will enjoy this.

A delightful romp

This is an enjoyable romp of a variation, with so many humorous on-goings that would not disappoint any reader who enjoys a lot of fun twists and turns that can readily bring a smile. Despite the heavy subject matter tackled herein namely: attempted murder, amnesia, insanity, cruelty, domestic violence and the studies and inadequate treatments by the medical field in terms of the conditions/diseases of the mind in the Regency era, the author manages to present a somewhat lighthearted offering. What caused disappointment with this particular reader is the lack of exchanges between the beloved couple. With so much going on, one can hardly focus on the romance between Elizabeth Bennet and Mr. Darcy without laughing at one thing or another. This is highly recommended for the humor and absurdities within.

The day has finally come for Jane to wed Mr Bingley and Elizabeth is to wed Mr. Darcy in a double ceremony. They can't all fit in the Carriage together. So Elizabeth and her father will go after the other ladies as there isn't far to go to the chapel. As they are about to reach the chapel the carriage has a terrible accident and Elizabeth is unconscious for a few minutes. But when the get her out she and her father decide to walk the rest of the way as they feel ok except for bump on Lizzy's head. when she gets to the chapel she can recognize everyone but Mr. Darcy. Jane goes a head with her wedding and Elizabeth decides to wait for this stranger. Most of the rest of the story is about Lizzy getting her memory and Lydia's husband having brought her home. I was so fascinated with the story I stayed up reading the book half of the night.

Not very long but satisfying

Elizabeth is on her way to the Church to marry Darcy when an axle breaks and she's unconscious for a few minutes. Her only symptom is that she doesn't remember Darcy at all! From there its insanity when Mr Jones recommends an injury to the opposite side of her head to balance it, A doctor Darcy's family knows sends an electrical box to shock her brain, her father's friend recommends waiting, and Lady Catherine calls for the doctors at Bedlam to come get her! Add in Wickham dropping Lydia off, several strange accidents occurring, and Lydia being poisoned by a tonic from Wickham! It's utter confusion and some craziness and its definitely different from other stories! Oh, I forgot crazy Caroline ....she is always very entertaining!

I think, this one might by my favorite story so far by this author

Elizabeth is knocked unconscious in carriage accident on the way to her wedding. When she wakes up she can no longer remember Mr Darcy. So instead of a double wedding only Jane and Mr Bingley are married.
I love how patiently Mr Darcy helps Elizabeth trying to recover her memory. Meanwhile they find out that the accident, was in fact no accident. Apparently back the loss of memory was thought to be a starting insanity. So Lady Catherine seize the opportunity to try get Elizabeth committed.
So this a race against time to recover her memory and discover who is behind the accident.
Enjoy :-)

I thought I knew who the culprit was, and I was correct! Why he was overlooked O will never know! The fascinating aspect was who asked the director from Bedlam to come to observe Lady Catherine when she tried to have Elizabeth put away because she had temporary amnesia! How humiliating for Lady Catherine! Most of the book centered around Wickham and his devious behavior towards Wickham and Thatcher, the unseen footman. Darcy, Anne, Mr. Bennet, and the Colonel do everything that they can to protect Elizabeth and Lydia.

A story with an endearing Darcy (with an extra dose of charm leading to many "Awww!" moments), a very lovely Elizabeth (no surprises there!), sweet Bingley (again Duh!) but the person who really surprised me was Jane when she dealt with our dear(?) Caroline. I loved Mr. Bennet in this book. He was exactly as I think of him in the original but a bit more sober than that. This story is a great and balanced mixture of mystery, romance, funny and familial harmony with a lot many happily ever afters. What more can we ask for?

Is it an accident that steals Elizabeth Bennet's memory? Can Mr. Darcy can help her get it back?

Some person or persons unknown are out to keep Elizabeth Bennet from marrying Fitzwilliam Darcy. However, the facts may point to an additional target . Who and why? Elizabeth's memory of Fitzwilliam Darcy is missing. He is determined to help the woman he loves fall in love with him again and find the persons responsible. This was a story that had me so engaged I stayed up until I finished. I'm sure you'll enjoy this wonderful story.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Stevie Zimmerman who is a fantastic JAFF narrator. This Pride and Prejudice variation begins with Elizabeth's and Mr. Darcy's wedding when a carriage accident occurs and Elizabeth is hits her head and doesn't remember anything about Mr. Darcy and her betrothal. Darcy must prove his love and honor to her and is determined to win her love again. This book has mystery and intrigue. Another great Pride and Prejudice variation.

Joy to read. Joy

Always a pleasure to read ms joy. Her stories always has the proper amount of angst but comic relief as well. She always Gives us the right types of Darcy and Lizzie. I always like their strong characters and her supporting characters are fun especially Col. Fitzwillam.

A very lively story

A couple of mysteries, several villains, romance, nerves, and plenty of cake all swirled together in a fast-paced story that departs from canon at the wedding of our dear couple. Continuity could have been smoother in a few places, but a very engaging read.
