Sometimes befriending the enemy is the only option.

After losing my family, I’ve spent the last seven years hunting the monsters who killed them. I know my purpose and what I want most in this world. At least I did until a striking vampire shows up just in time for the threats to begin.

Maciah West makes me feel ways I shouldn’t and tells me things that can’t be possible. I don’t want to believe him, but as my past finds its way back into the present, I don’t really have a choice.

Even as I begin to accept the new changes in my life—and my growing feelings for Maciah—I don’t let that deter me from my goals. I’m still a vampire hunter and I’ll do whatever it takes to get the vengeance I’ve been fighting for.

No matter how many vampires are out for my blood.

Fans of Linsey Hall, Heather Hildenbrand, and slow burn Paranormal Romance will devour this new book! If you love intrigue, strong heroines, and protective males, then you don’t want to miss Vampire Heir!

***This is the third series in Heather Renee's Mystics and Mayhem universe, but it can be read on its own as there are no spoilers to prior books, only fun cameos!***

Female lead is a "pick me" girl. She literally and unironically drops a "I'm not like other girls" line. I'm not kidding. In the year 2021, we still have main characters saying that line.

She also keeps going ON AND ON about how evil vampires are. But oh no, this one is hot! It happens EVERY TIME she's in the same room as him. Overall her characterization is just poor. It's like the author has a sticky note of bullet point personality traits for her. And whenever it's time to give the character some internal thoughts, we refer to the sticky note and regurgitate the traits.

Amerysn is unfriendly. So let's remind the readers how annoyed she is with [insert side character here] trying to be nice to her. Check!

She HATES vampire. So let's have her think or say that! Check. Has it been two paragraphs since we've reminded the reader? Say it again!

And...that's about it. Amersyn has two defining personality traits and the author REALLY runs with it.

Oh yea, her love interest is filler hot guy who falls instantly in love with her. He isn't all that memorable or interesting, so that's all I have to say about him.

All these rave reviews did me dirty.

This one snagged my attention pretty early in the reading. There is a unique feel to this. Amersyn has a tragic back ground which forms a solid foundation for who she is and why the changes she is facing are so hard to accept. Maciah is where I faltered a bit. I wanted a more domineering MC for Amersyn. Would have enjoyed him being a bit more pushy and eager to make Amersyn his.

We end on some what of a cliff hanger. The reader is left with a lot of possibilities as to where this is headed.

I am very much looking forward to book 2!

Happy reading,
DD 💕

From the moment I started reading this book, I could not stop. The story captures you instantly, with a strong heroine voice and thrilling events. We meet Amersyn who has been on her own for the past seven years as a result of her family being murdered by vampires. She has made it her life quest to seek vengeance for the death of her family as well as rid the world of evil bloodsuckers. Little did she know that she would find herself entangled with the same creatures she destroys. Maciah is the vampire she was not expecting to let in to her life and definitely not to have a bond with. Maciah is a dreamy alpha with all right words but Amersyn is not just any girl, after all she is a vampire hunter and she will not put her guard down easily. Danger surrounds her and as her unknown past comes hurling at her, she has to make the difficult decision to either stick by her rules or let others in. Maciah holds a secret that will turn Amersyn's existence upside down and also captivate her heart. I can't wait to read the next book of the series.
I received an ARC of this book and this is my honest opinion

Meh. Very weird storyline. Characters weren’t exactly two-dimensional, but they weren’t all that interesting, engaging or believable. I also found the plot to be bumbling. Won’t be reading more from this series/world.

Thrilling with pulse pounding action and sigh inducing moments! Your new addiction is here. You're going to crave this unputdownable book that has a bit of everything. Amersyn is vulnerable, yet strong, she's been broken but still has all the heart that you want to see the ultimate heroine possess. Take a bite out of this twisty tale because you're never going to want this to end. You're going to be quoting your favorite lines to all your friends!

Amersyn is lovable and hilarious and she's focused and fierce when she needs to be. Her past is traumatic and because of that she vows justice, in her own way. She finds herself suddenly surrounded by vamps who don't want to kill her and this dedicated hunter finds her world changing. And maybe her views will never be the same again and that's not a bad thing.

Maciah is just delicious! He's hot and kind and dedicated to his own cause, which happens to now be Amersyn. He's the leader that you want to see and while he's ready to save the day, he doesn't take risks lightly. Hello Mr. Book Boyfriend! I love the angsty passion that is dripping from these pages!

Taking down the baddies just became even more imperative and the danger has escalated! I can't wait for the second book! Heather Renee's writing is addictive and fresh with a uniqueness all her own.

I love Emersyn. She's feisty and broken, like Lucinda (from Broken Court Series.) I'm really excited to see her character growth over the series!!
Supporting characters are amazing, as usual. All unique with their own quirks.
Heather's books are always a pleasure!!
Found Family. Absolutely hilarious. Great action. Wonderful romance. And of course a cliffhanger 😂 but this is a complete series so you can just grab the next in line 😉

🗨Some Quotes
"What's your name, so I can maybe stop calling you prick in my head?" I asked as I opened the pantry to grab my coffee.
He chuckled. "Maciah West."
"Sounds like a prick kind of name. Fitting."
.
"I'd like to make you an offer," he said casually, even though his eyes were pulsing with irritation.
"I don't negotiate with blood terrorists,"
.
"The truth is always more than any of us can handle. I know from experience," he whispered against my ear.
.
He snarled again lowering his voice "I said no, Emersyn."
Ok... I must have bumped my head harder than I realized because that was hot as hell.

"I'd let the whole world die for you, Emersyn."

Heather Renee has quickly become one of my fave go to paranormal/fantasy authors! I haven’t read a vampire romance in so long but Vampire Heir has quickly become an addicting series that I can’t wait for the next one! Vampire Heir is the first book in the series and as of right now the only book out fyi.
Right off the bat Amersyn, the main female lead, is introduced and she’s such a strong character with a devastating past you can’t help but be intrigued to see what will happen next! She’s a hunter and in for a crazy ride when she meets Maciah.
Maciah is delicious, honesty my favorite Heather Renee man so far! The angst and chemistry these two have from the start is off the charts!
I definitely recommend starting this series if you love vampires, fierce strong characters, and an addictive storyline!

Amerysn is a vampire hunter, out to kill the ones who destroyed her family and any others she finds. Then after being aided by some vampires that aren’t trying to kill her and after a few conversations with the leader Maciah as well as a very friendly, exuberant Rachel, she learns she’s not quite what she thought she was.
Due to an unknown fact about her background, Maciah is drawn to her as a protector. Then things get really interesting.
This book covers her growing knowledge about vampires, as well as the growth from a single, unfriendly person to someone with friends. There is a definite attraction between Amerysn and Miciah but it is not overly stressed as in other books.
This was a fun, quick, humourous (Rachel is so great), and enjoyable read which ends on a sort of cliffhanger.

I had about halfway through but just can't get into this story. The editing is good, no problems that way. The issue I'm having is this is a cliche "I'm not like other girls" trope supported heavily with a betrayed by my body trope. The MC keeps saying one thing but then pretty much just does the opposite when fed an unchecked story from a random guy. I'm just going to call it quits and move on.

A few days ago, I was kindly selected to review Heather Renee’s newest release Vampire Heir. The review is not paid for and is filled with my honest thoughts about the book. This fast-paced gritty & witty tale follows Amersyn (beautiful name!) as she combats vampires and other supernatural beings as a Hunter. Her origin story is in the prologue of the book, which is a slightly gruesome way to being the story, but does a fantastic job informing the reader on why Amersyn is a loner Hunter in present day. She has firm beliefs about all vampires, but one suddenly catches her eye when he hesitates with the chance to hurt her in a fight. Once she properly meets Maciah, her life is thrown every which way with new dangers and threats wait for them around every corner. My one plot hole that tugged at me throughout the novel, is how Amersyn was able to obtain her family's inheritance if she ran away from Child Protective Services & lived on the streets without much suspicion rising from the landlords and car dealers she buys her comforts from. I almost want a prequel about the years between her family's deaths & when she meets Miciah. It’s been a while since I have read a book so quickly & I’m already counting down the days until the sequel is released!
This entire review has been hidden because of spoilers.

I loved this book! It’s my first Heather Renee book and won’t be my last! I cannot wait to see what happens next with Amersyn and Maciah! I love their dynamic, as well as the back story, I can’t wait to see where the next book takes us in their story and that of the vampires

It is a pretty good story, but there are a few holes in the plot. This often took me completely out of the story. For that reason I will not be reading the rest of the books in this series.

I will seriously read anything this author writes, she knows what she is doing when she is creating her characters and their story. Amersyn is such a strong FMC throw in her fun loving side with a bit on vulnerability and she is completely perfect and Maciah is every bit the Alpha you expect him to be. The tension these two have burns up the pages. I love the world building and getting to know these characters. This book will grab your attention from page one and keep your attention with all the twists and turns until the very last page. Prepare to read this baby in one sitting. I cannot wait for the next book.

I was bored

This started out well.I was interested in her as a hunter but it quickly turned into a boring day to day thing with no meat. I was bored. And the ease at the end she had with killing the vampires was meh. No struggle ,no anticipation no conflicts, just go to club almost instantly get ahead of a long line of females to see vamp,he see her take her.back tell others to leave em along a little push and slap hand and she has put a piece of wood through heart, warm bam thank you .😎
Boring ,and the ending ...yea I didn't care .not about her ,them or anyone
Gonna skip the rest of these as I just don't care .

Got bored real quick. Story's similar to so many buffy-like hunter turns hunted out there. Didn't help that there was no excitement w the romance. It was kinda insta-ott with whole bond thing they have.

Vampire Heir (Scorned by Blood, book 1)
Mystics and Mayhem Universe
Releasing 11/4/21

Stars: 5/5
Heat: Slow burn
(Just a note about my star rating system, which you can skip if you want... I rate books that I enjoy 4 stars, which is the majority of books I read, since I tend to read authors and genres that I know I like. 3 stars is reserved for the books that I finished and liked okay but will probably never pick up again. I very rarely DNF a book or rate anything below a 3. 5 stars are the books that I just LOVE. I will gush about them and I will read them again and again. They caught me off guard, made me cry, laugh or are otherwise unforgettable. They are the ones that I can't get enough of and am genuinely sad when they end. Now, on to the review...)

Vampire Heir has taken the top spot as my favorite Heather Renee book, which is just cray because I like wolf shifter books over vampire books, usually. However, I have fallen head over heals for this vampire nest. Amersyn is not your typical human and is hell bent on getting revenge on those who wronged her and her family. Little does she know, her world is about to turn upside down with revelations she never saw coming and a hot as sin, protective vampire. I love that Heather knows how to write a slow burn story that makes you forget that it's slow burn. I love the genuine connection and time her characters take to get to know one another, it feels real and not rushed. It is character building at its best and who doesn't love the tension!? Throw in some girl besties and action and what more could you want? The next installment can not come soon enough! I am excited for everyone to read this part of the Mystics and Mayhem Universe.

Amersyn 💜

Who doesn't love a strong female huntress mixed with a little enemies to lovers. I haven't read anything of Heather's because the last books I read seemed to be explained too much and I found it annoying.... But I'm glad after this being on my TBR for a while I finally read it, it was such a good read ♡ Amersyn is such a badass and Machia was such swoon worthy male.

Amersyn watched her mother die in front of her, she lost her family in a matter of moments to creatures she didn't know existed but she vowed then that she'd seek vengeance for their deaths and so she became the very thing to bring them down. A Hunter.
She made a name for herself with a strong kill record and never stayed in one spot too long she'd managed to bring down 3 of the men responsible for her family's deaths and she wasn't going to stop until all 5 were ash.
When she returns home one night to find someone else has been there she collects her things to flee like she always does. She's followed by a large group of vampires but manages to bring them all down, when two other vamps appear and help her she doesn't stick around to ask questions she flees to another safe house only to wake during the night to find one of them in her room. Instead of wanting her dead he wants to make a deal he'll help her find the last two vamps on her list if she agrees to kill someone he can't. His maker. Amersyn reluctantly agrees to trust the lesser of two evils but soon learns this may be her most dangerous job yet... Not only is there a bounty out on her head but the sexy vampire she'll have to work with makes her feels things she shouldn't for a race she hates. But the truths he unfolds for her will have her life changing in more ways than one.

Definitely Recommend Reading 📚

2.5, round up

I've read one other Heather Renee book. My review of that book starts out, "This book is 295 pages long and basically nothing happens until the last 5 pages, when some action finally happens..." Renee seems to have a formula. The numbers are a bit off; my paperback copy of Vampire Heir is 284 pages, and something finally happens in the last 20 or so pages. But otherwise, this snippet of review works just as well here as it did for Wolf Kissed.

I was simply bored throughout. The book seems to bounce from one pointless event to the next at random. The FMC has the emotional depth of a firefly, and I simply didn't like her. (I kept thinking of Barrie's Tinker Bell, who can only feel one emotion at a time, and it's usually anger.) I liked the MMC, but he's a paper cutout with no depth or development. The side characters are stereotypes, and all sound exactly the same. And the book is disappointingly predictable.

I own several of Renee's books that I've picked up here and there. So, I'd hoped disliking the first was a one-off. Not every book is right for every reader. But I'm beginning to think her writing formula is what's not for me, and therefore, I'm unlikely to enjoy any of them.

I received a free ebook of this story. I was not compensated for this review and all opinions are my own.

Let me start out by saying that I love vampire books. When I say that, I truly mean that I have a hard time finding vampire books that I enjoy. I had the opportunity to read this one and I am so glad that I did. This story follows Amersyn who's family was killed by Vampires. She is very young when this happens and she dedicates her life to training in order to get revenge. Now I know that this sounds like your typical paranormal book but this one is different. The story can be serious one minute and and then i'm laughing out loud the next. There is just something about Amersyn and her story that I connected with. She was strong and determined to avenge her family. The book is very well written and all of the Characters are wonderful. I loved the side characters just as much! If you love a great easy read and dig stories about revenge and vampires, you will LOVE this book. Pick it up and give it a try. I promise you will not be sorry!

Unputdownable!!! ❤

Enthralling installment you won't be able to put down, with a dark and intriguing plot that will have you guessing what will happen next and surprising you with unexpected twists and turns you won't see coming at all!!! 🤯
Amersyn's life and beliefs are turned upside down when she meets Maciah and his coven members... aren't all vampires bloodsuckers monsters???... apparently not!!! 😲😟
The most time she expends with Maciah, Zeke, Rachel and Nikki, the most she became attached to them... and let's talk about the hot, moody, overprotective alpha that Maciah is, because damn!!!... she can’t deny the strong attraction between them!!! 🥵 #newbookboyfriend
And let's also talk about the amazing girl gang those three girls are forming, because I totally want to be part of their womance!!! 🥰
It's incredible how Heather keeps writing better and better books each time, I'm so excited to read the rest of the books in this fantastic new series!!! 😍🖤🔥

Okay, I really enjoyed this book!
I've read a lot of vampire books but none quite like this one.
The story grabs you on page one and takes you on an unpredictable ride.

One of the first things I noticed while reading this book was the lack of cuss words. Do you know how REFRESHING that is!?!? As a person who doesn't cuss much it's sometimes difficult for me to read constant F bombs. I absolutely LOVED that this book had ZERO cuss words. Zero!

Our main character, Amersyn, is an absolute bad a$$ with a huge heart. I am loving her story! Her growth throughout this book, after everything she went through, is incredible.
The supporting characters are amazing and fun! The fact that she is able to overcome the (surprise twist), move forward and make some great relationships really shows her strength. I can't wait to see where the story takes her next!

The womance. The spice. The maybe budding romance. The action and suspense. Just a few of my favorite things. 😂😍

I thoroughly enjoyed reading Vampire Heir so much!! Not many books can keep you enthralled and imagining yourself within the book immersed in the story as you read them. Heather Renee accomplishes that and so much more in this riveting, no holds barred edge of your seat read. I love Amersyn and thru the tragedies that have befallen her she’s dusted herself off and is ready to kick ass. Even when she learns the biggest truth of all about herself that shakes her world to the core! Another surprisingly facet is being part of the Mystics and Mayhem Universe you get surprised with other characters you know and love, (I LOVE when an author does that). You don’t want to miss out on reading this incredible splendidly addictive nail biting series. I’ll be anxiously awaiting for Vampire Ash to arrive!!

I really enjoyed this one despite the book cover.

Lately I've been thinking how lately a lot of the FMCs I've been reading about are financially broke and then prince-billionaire-charming comes in with a wad of cash and designer clothes. It was refreshing that she actually had some cash to make some strategic choices in her living arrangements and wasn't financially dependent on the love interest.

Maciah (love interest) I'm confused about.

I can't tell why he likes her so much. It seems like the insta love was turned up a bit too high in this book.

Aside from the insta-love between Maciah and Amersyn, I really liked the character/relationship-building between the other characters.

Ok so this book has quickly and easily jumped to my favorite book so far that Heather has written (and I have read them all). I truly love so many of her books but Maciah is definitely my favorite Alpha Male MC and Amersyn is my spirit animal if I was a hunter and in shape, she totally would be! This book sucks you in from the 1st page and I just couldn't put it down (not that I wanted to). Great world building, with the Vamps adding to an already amazing world with Roman and Cait in the Luna Marked series (must read also) We really get to know these characters but I still want so much more! Can't wait to see where Amersyn journey will take her and more fighting, revelations, and smexy heat please! If you weren't sure before you should ABSOLUTELY read this book it is amazing!!
